Congrats to coco & Hg!!!

38week MW appointment today, told her about getting the private group b strep test done. First she seemed like I'd defied her, then said that well it ended up worthwhile me doing it, she thinks they'll probably move towards doing it as standard in the future.
So now I have nice big stickers on my folder to say I'm a carrier! A marked woman!

Supposed to be finishing decorating the bedroom today, but the window is jammed shut (after it fell out, getting repaired next Friday) and a big piece of missing plaster (getting replastered on weds) I've begged and pleaded with the workmen to hurry this up ASAP as I'm terrified it won't be done in time! I started rollering paint but got so hot I couldn't do anymore, so I've left DH to it, I feel so bad! Been having pressure right under bump today, that sitting upright is just so painful! I'm hoping it's just trapped wind!! Must...finish.... Painting...

ToElleWithIt · 22/07/2016 16:20

I can only speak to my DH, but he wouldn't use my stretchy wrap (jpmbb) or any woven wraps. I don't think it was even the faff, but more the appearance of them that he didn't like. Some guys do use them though. We got the infant insert for the Ergo and he used that to carry DS from birth. It was a lifesaver! Then as DS got bigger he got a Tula.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 22/07/2016 18:15

basket I've just hired a hana stretchy wrap from a sling library - I really liked it. We also have a Tula with a baby insert but I wanted a stretchy for newborn. I doubt very much that my DH will use the stretchy either - same reasons elle mentioned.ul
If you have a sling library near you then I would really recommend going along- I got to try lots of different ones before choosing and was only £20 for 8 weeks trial.

GuessHowMuch · 22/07/2016 18:31

Thanks Plimsolls Smile I'll message her with a 'no hurry' post!!!

OwlinaTree · 22/07/2016 19:09

Congratulations Coco and hgleslie! Both look like real cuties. Enjoy the cuddles.

I've got a closer caboo and I loved it, my dh was really happy with it too. Easier than the wraps you tie, I tried one of those and it was fine but fiddly.

Finished work today! Although mat leave doesn't start until the baby is born, one advantage of teaching. I'm shattered and the house is full of flowers, so it's all good.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 22/07/2016 19:46

Eeek hgl huge, huge congrats!! Baby birthday twins Smile she is gorgeous and for a first baby, she wasn't hanging around!! Well done you Flowers
Sophia i lost plug in bits and bobs for probably the last week. A fair bit did come out yesterday as well so it could be a sign - or it could mean nothing and you've still got time!
Biscuits glad you're getting on well at home, sure your DS will come round soon - lots of change for him, bless him.
Fizzy put the roller down woman! Make everyone else do it, get your feet up on the couch and make the most of doing nothing - you will honestly look back and wish you'd made the most of it when you could. Glad mw listened re the GBS and you can get the right treatment.

Have had a brilliant first day as a family of 4. Jack has slept all day but is still managing to be the most popular member of the family - now DD is over the surprise, she's pretty smitten and wants to hold him constantly. We've spent a lot of time chilling on the couch. I'm tired but on a definite post-birth endorphin high, feel great! Jack has a latch like an industrial Hoover - my nipples are feeling it and then some. But we've had a few meconium poos so hopefully they're nearly over - like trying to scrape off tar! After pains are a bit of a bugger too, but generally feeling fab, super relaxed and very zen! Am also very happy not to be pregnant any more - didn't realise how flippin uncomfortable I was! Can sit down, breathe, bend over WITHOUT PAIN! Hurray!

Daytona79 · 22/07/2016 20:45

I prefer the boba stretchy wrap over the caboo as I found the crosses at the back on caboo uncomfy, I prefer being able to spread wrap fully over my back

Might be worth going a sling libary

From 3 months I like using a connecta

Biscuitswithtea · 22/07/2016 20:52

Ho hum. I ended up having to take DD to the docs today. Midwife had been concerned that she might have oral thrush and GP confirmed it. So we need to smear gel in her mouth several times a day and also on my nipples to limit passing it back and forth between us. Turns out one of the potential side effects of IV antibiotics in labour is sprouting thrush :(

rumisyum · 22/07/2016 22:20

Thanks for resurrecting the stats, plimsolls!

Whoohoo, Sophia! I know it might still be ages yet, but it must be exciting to see a sign of something happening. Smile

And the countdown starts for you, Alfie! Are you having private midwives? I'm collecting our pool tomorrow & the midwife is coming to do their home visit on Monday - baby gets a free pass to turn up anytime after that! Grin

basket, I guess my husband is an exception, but he loved using a stretchy wrap. And ours is probably the least manly - it's tie dyed. GrinThat said, he mostly wore him in the stretchy wrap around the house, between feeds, but carried DS out of the house in a leather & sheepskin contraption, which was ultra-manly! Thing is, that was great for a winter baby... Less so in this heat! We'll have to see if he braves the tie dye out of the house. Festival summer look, I suppose?

This reminds me that I've forgotten how to tie one of those wraps... Should remind myself...

Coco, glad to hear you've had a great day & are doing so well. I remember that post-birth high - I'm looking forward to it again!

rumisyum · 22/07/2016 22:24

Sorry to hear about the thrush, biscuits. Must be uncomfortable for you both! Hope the treatment knocks it on the head soon.

Wow, busy thread today!
Congrats hgleslie on the birth of Beatrice. She's gorgeous Smile
Coco Think I already congratulated you on Facebook, but just wanted to say am glad you guys had a good first day (and I'm still chuckling at your Hulk comment!)
Biscuits Sorry to hear about the thrush. Hope it clears up soon.

Don't think I've mentioned on here, but I've been in hospital since Tuesday. Feeling perfectly fine, but baby is in an unstable lie with too much fluid so there's a risk of cord prolapse if my waters break. I live almost an hour away from the hospital, so they didn't want to let me go after my scan on Monday. I basically went home, finished packing my bags (finally) and came back the next day..

Feels a bit weird to have spent so much time on the labour ward already and not be showing any signs of labour yet! On the plus side they've now started letting me pop into town for the afternoons for lunch with DP and DS every day Grin

Sophia1984 · 23/07/2016 10:59

Sorry to hear that longtimelistener - sounds scary, but good that they've spotted it and are looking out for you :-)

Sophia1984 · 23/07/2016 11:58

What are everyone's plans for the weekend? To misquote Rihanna, I'm going to 'walk walk walk walk walk' a lot to try and get this cervix effaced! Lost more plug this morning and was on verge of ringing maternity unit last night- had painful tightening but couldn't tell if BH + baby head-butting (which he loves to do) or actual contractions - very painful whatever it was.Have disappeared for now so false alarm!

Going to street party/yard sale today then lunch with family friends and uncle's birthday party tomorrow, then seeing school friend who is up visiting her parents and getting to meet her baby for first time on Monday. All subject to change of course!

Shanster · 23/07/2016 14:41

Congrats glencoco and hg!!!! Can't believe there are so many babies already, the end of August for me seems like a long road ahead!!!

longtimelistener, have they been monitoring your fluid levels for a while? At least they are monitoring you instead of just whisking you in for a section :) My baby is footling breech with his cord wrapped twice around the neck but he moves around constantly. Midwife told me I have a lot of fluid and that's the only reason he can still flip around so much. They've already starting talking about booking a section, which I really want to avoid because of the recovery involved and the fact I have so much still to do at work over the next couple of weeks. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow, so feel like baby still needs some time to bake. Both my other 2 were transverse until 37 weeks and 39 weeks respectively, so I think I must just have some directionally challenged children or a misshapen uterus?

Does anyone else have family coming in to help out? My in laws are coming (they live 800 miles away) and my mum is supposed to come in September. I asked my in laws to come this time because MIL has made so many remarks about how my parents came for the first 2 and she was not considered. I assumed I'd have a straight forward delivery this time and it would be fine to have them here. Now its looking less certain, and the thought of being poorly afterwards is making me wish I'd just been selfish and had my own Mum come. I obvs can't change this now, as she'd be very hurt but I'm a little worried about being emotional afterwards? MIL is fine, but being American can't make a decent cup of tea. I do realize how awful that sounds, I'm just venting on here as I can't say these things IRL!!!!

Longtimelistener · 23/07/2016 19:38

Shan They've been monitoring me since it was picked up on a scan at 35 weeks, but they only do growth scans here every two weeks as the results are apparently unreliable otherwise, so I've actually only had one more scan last Monday (37 weeks). They've been checking position daily since I've been here though and the fluid really is making him move all over the place (oblique today, with his head right under my ribs!)
They did talk about a c-section with me when he was breech at 35 weeks, but that's about the only position he hasn't been in since then. The plan now is to hold out until Monday and then, if my cervix is favourable, they'll do an ECV followed by an induction. If not, then they'll do a c-section. So it looks like I'll be joining the July baby club one way or the other!!

I've been meaning to ask actually, does anyone have experience of an ECV? I've always been dead against them before as I've heard that they're really uncomfortable and the baby just moves back in 50% of cases. They tell me this is less likely for me though, as they would be inducing straight away so baby wouldn't get a chance to turn back..

I'm also a bit nervous about my in-laws being around more this time. Bit paranoid that DMIL might secretly read this thread though, so I won't go into too much detail here about what happened last time..lol! I'm sure it will be fine, right? Hmm

Longtimelistener · 23/07/2016 19:42

Shan Sorry, I also meant to say, do you think it could be the cord risk that's making them push for a c-section / earlier delivery this time. Maybe it becomes more of a concern as the baby gets bigger?

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 23/07/2016 19:42

rum yes the countdown is on. No not independent it's just that home birth is really week supported up here so they were quite happy for have one for first baby. Having lots of BH tonight so hoping baby is getting ready! But I'm the same as you -needs to stay put until Monday. How are you feeling about home birth?

shanster my mum and dad are coming through but are not staying with us and I have been quite bossy and told them they can only come if they are going to walk dogs/make food/ get their own tea.

sophia sounds promising! Enjoy that walk!

longtimelistener my friend had the same issue with her first baby. I used to go in and play scrabble with her on her bed. They kept her in for 2 weeks until she actually went for an ELCS.

biscuits sorry to hear about thrush hope it clears up soon!

Fizzyboo · 24/07/2016 08:35

Isabella Louise was born at 4.56am today weighing 6lb 14oz.
She's currently in the special care baby unit for observation but doing well.
I'm just out of surgery for a retained placenta, but I'm good... Very tired but very happy xxx

Sophia1984 · 24/07/2016 09:03

Congratulations Fizzy! Must be such a relief to have her here- so glad you're both doing well :-)

Had what appears to be a bloody show early this morning but can't tell if just because of the sweep or if genuine sign of oncoming labour (still annoyed with midwife still for messing with nature as I don't know what's what now). Have plans to go stay at parents tonight (40 mins away) but now not sure as definitely want to be home with partner for early labour and not have everyone know!

Biscuitswithtea · 24/07/2016 09:08

Congratulations Fizzy! Flowers
Hope she gets out of SCBU pronto.

I'm having a morning in bed with DD while DH has taken DS swimming. DD will merrily go 3-4hrs between feeds during the day, but fed c2hr-ly last night. I would quite like to swap that round if at all possible!

Congratulations on all the babies arriving!

2 weeks and 3 days to go here but hoping he will arrive before due date! The whole of one side of the family are off to Spain the day after due date for Grandad-to-be'S 60th birthday which has been arranged for a year or so!! Gutted we can't go and even more gutted MIL and FIL may not get to meet their first grandchild straight away!
I think I lost my plug yesterday and spending lots of time of the birth ball so hoping I can help him along!!

Yay congrats Fizzy!

How's things going rum, any updates?

Sounds promising sophia!

Good luck at your appt tomorrow longtime! I don't really know anything about the ECV to be honest but hope it all goes well.

LotsOfDots · 24/07/2016 11:11

Congratulations fizzy. Hope she's swiftly out of SCBU and all is well X

CheeseandGherkins · 24/07/2016 11:37

Congrats Fizzy, I hope she isn't in scbu long.

I think I might have this baby sooner rather than later. This weekend my insulin requirements have dropped to none and my blood sugars have lowered. This happened with dd3 and she was induced at 33+ due to it. I'll be calling hospital tomorrow but I'm still only 34+3 today and really don't want another nicu experience. Hope they get some steroids in me at least and that we can hold on a bit longer. I had a section last time which makes things difficult as well.
I'm not ready!

MrsZumbaDancer · 24/07/2016 12:27

Congrats fizzy Smile

Suddenly feeling huge, bump seems to have grown loads on the last 2 days and feeling like my maternity clothes (jeans in particular) are too tight and don't want to buy more now!
