New thread - the one where we stop being pregnant and become new mamas! So close to the end. Exciting!

Daytona I've been having a bit of the same sort of cramps you describe. I'm not due til the 22nd though so hopefully not an indication of anything imminent!

Cheese really sorry to hear about your grandad. That's a horrible position to be in and stressful for everyone involved. Try to get some rest if you can - maybe have a few of days when you only visit once? I'm sure he'll understand. It really takes it's toll.

Christinedonna · 21/07/2016 15:40

I've had cramps for a few weeks. They can be awful at times, feels like I'm about to come on a period..when I was in hospital, a woman was asking the midwife about them and she said it's the pressure on your uterus that causes it

carebear841 · 21/07/2016 15:46

Hey, hope you don't mind me joining at this late stage. I'm 36+4 so nearly nearly there. Have had a bit of a worry with measurements last couple of appts but don't know whether I should be pushing for a bit more reassurance. All fine until 34 week appt when mw measured 31, then remeasured to get 34. Was a bit concerned but she explained it away. Then at 36 week appt on Monday mw measured 34 again. She explained can be how baby is lying and tbf, it does feel like he lies across rather than feet straight up. But it has been increasingly on my mind last couple of days. Not sure what I should do, anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks.

ineedwine99 · 21/07/2016 15:50

6 working days left, due 8th Aug. Excited to meet baby, nervous to meet baby (making sure we look after it properly)
Looking forward to geting my body back, not having this big weight when i roll over in bed and being able to get off the sofa like a normal person, though to be fair i'll have good arm muscles from pushing myself up :-)

Sophia1984 · 21/07/2016 15:52

Just rang hospital and apparently the Trust I get community midwife care in does inductions at 40+10, which means they recommend sweep at 38w and 40w for first time mums. Still think I should have been told in advance of appointment. Lesson learnt.

Welcome carebear. I think if midwife was concerned she would have asked you to come back in a week and would check again and then refer for growth scan. That's what happened to me, and all was fine - just that baby's head had engaged so bump measurement went down. If you are worried though, you could maybe ring and ask for a growth scan.

ineedwine99 · 21/07/2016 16:18

Daytona79

I got weighed a week and half ago by the midwife, first time since my first app at 7 weeks pregnant and i've only gained c8lb, baby is fine, bump a good measurement etc so midwife not concerned in the sligtest. I had to remind my self i will have lost weight having stopped drinking alcohol

MrsPMT23 · 21/07/2016 18:23

Sorry to hear of your Grandad Cheese hope the next few weeks go as well as they can do.

Sophia I mentioned a sweep at my 38 week appointment today and they said even at 40 weeks they would avoid it! Strange how it differs in areas.

MW said head is fully engaged now so just the waiting game. 38 weeks today.

I finished work yesterday and an absolute witch from another team is covering 2 days a week. She's already called me four times picking up on things I've apparently done wrong and trying to worry me about petty things - she's obviously got a grudge against me. Told her I'm no longer taking calls from work. Feeling anxious and stressed as it is and she's just worsening the situation. Trouble is she is my boss' partner. Had a few tears today.

carebear841 · 21/07/2016 19:03

Thanks Sophia, I will wait until next mw appt I think then. Just been transferred to caseload so hopefully will have one before 38 weeks so I meet my caseload mw.

and mrspmt that sounds horrid. Surely they should not be contacting you now you're on maternity leave?

OwlinaTree · 21/07/2016 19:07

Mrspmt if she rings again tell her she's breaking the law. You don't need that crap.

Never had a sweep, was offered one in first pg booked in for 41 weeks I think, but went into labour before that. Doesn't sound pleasant but unlikely to do you any harm, so don't worry.

Last day of work for me tomorrow, it's the end of term! I'm 36 weeks today, baby coming in exactly 3 weeks (or earlier I guess). Will be glad to finish work, I can concentrate on the baby then, I've still not got anything ready and the house needs a good clean.

Glad the weather has cooled off a bit, was so worn out earlier in the week, but much more manageable today.

MrsPMT23 · 21/07/2016 19:25

Owl it's so much nicer now it's cooled off! I've been having to walk the dog late at night when it's cool but went for a lovely long walk this afternoon and didn't come back with cankles and covered in sweat!

The company I work for is very small and I actually live on site as our house comes with my job. Complicates things even more, feel like I'm never away from work. Boss is in his 70s and doesn't quite understand present laws/rights of maternity leave. He thought I would be back at work FT two weeks after having the baby! Got a bit of a shock when I told him I'd be taking a year.

Is anyone else experiencing pins and needles in their hands at night? Keeps waking me up!

MrsZumbaDancer · 21/07/2016 19:35

Hopes all's going well hg

Had my 36 week appointment at 36+3, head down, 3/5 engaged in a good position. My midwife now on leave until I'd be 40+3 but she's said I can have a sweep at my next appointment (38+4).. It's only standard for first time mum's now but she said the midwife who is doing her clinic will do it..

Baby been quiet today but I seem to have one quiet day then one active day so not too concerned.. Well I always worry but midwife said as that's been my pattern for a while not to be concerned. Just wish I had an active one! My ds was actually the same same though so maybe it's another lazy boy Smile

BerylMeeps · 21/07/2016 20:31

My DH has been off with me since he woke up today, had an awful appt where the cons MW basically rehashed all deets of my super fast 1st del. and she basically said you did fine first time round, SPD won't kill you, get on with it.

I was sat there thinking"when did I ever say I didn't want to get on with it?" I was there on advice from a gp and another mw, didn't know what the appt was for and thought it was for my birth plan.

I've been panicky and anxious and teary and terrified since I got home at five thirty. She's stolen my zen. I know full well I "dealt with it" last time, and I know that 5hrs is better than 30hrs for a first birth but it was fucking terrifying when it happened and I really didn't want to have to relive that with a totally redundant DH sat staring at the wall.

Ffs.

Sophia1984 · 21/07/2016 21:11

Sounds like we've both been cursed with our midwives today Beryl :( Sorry yours was shit as well. We have to put so much trust in them and it's really hard when they betray that. I know exactly what you mean about stealing your zen - try not to let her, even though I know it's hard. Cook yourself something lovely for tea, run yourself a bubble bath and try and do some breathing exercises, make a nice hot milky drink and get some sleep (haha) and everything will feel better in morning x

FourForYouGlenCoco · 21/07/2016 23:22

God Sophia I'm so sorry that happened to you, what a shitty midwife Sad fwiw (and just for future reference) - even if it is standard practise in your trust, that absolutely doesn't mean you have to accept any procedure you're offered - the buck ultimately stops with you and you can always, always refuse anything. They have no power to make you accept any form of medical treatment/intervention. Seconding others that said it won't have done you or baby any harm, but it's not a nice thing to go through when you don't feel in control Sad hugs to you.
Beryl big hugs to you too. I know hugs aren't the done thing on mn, but I'm doling them out anyway! Have you done a birth plan? Worth writing it all down on your own maybe, going through it with your DH and then making sure the midwives read it when you go into labour - so everyone knows what you want and hopefully you'll feel a bit more listened to.
MrsPMT that woman sounds like such a dick! Ignore, ignore, ignore. She's obviously a miserable cow with a very disappointing life.
Cheese sorry about your grandad, that must be very hard, especially with your own family to juggle/think about! I know it's nigh on impossible but it is important to put yourself first sometimes too. Fingers crossed you get the birth you want and all goes ok (and baby not too humungous - don't forget the growth scans can be out by quite a lot!).
Owlina well done for making it to the end of term, you trooper! carebear welcome. I second mentioning the growth issue to your mw next time you see her, or if you're really worried then give your maternity unit a ring and see what they say. And in the meantime, keep a close eye on movements.

Me and DD had a fab day at the woods today - we have some near us that have trails, playgrounds etc so we had a blast. Sadly she then fell asleep on the way home, slept for an hour and is therefore still wide awake in her bedroom. Really bad timing as unless I'm very mistaken, I'm having contractions! Lost more plug at the woods today (SO gross), started having tightenings while I was doing dinner and I'm fairly sure it's the real thing. Definitely in the v early stages as yet - no guarantee anything will happen particularly quickly - but exciting nonetheless! Forgot how uncomfortable contractions are though, at the moment they feel like a cross between being squeezed really really hard and that stabby gut feeling you get when you have the squits. Fun Confused DH in bed, dying for DD to go to sleep so I can just be quietly on my own for a bit!

OMG glencoco exciting. Good luck and keep us posted !!!

hgleslie89 · 22/07/2016 00:58

Hi four we're contraction buddies! So my waters broke about 2 hours ago, had bloody show and am 2cm dilated with regular contractions. Guess the baby's coming! Really sore already, not sure how I'm going to manage the rest of the process Sad

Shanster · 22/07/2016 02:35

Good luck glencoco and hgleslie, how exciting!

plimsolls and elle - I don't feel so awful now, we still have 5 and a half weeks right? I did try and sort of baby clothes tonight and figure out what I still need to buy.

I had another u/s today, and baby is now footling breech and looped his cord twice around the neck again. Midwife couldn't believe it - so now I'm back to counting kicks obsessively. She said if he hasn't sorted himself out by next week, they'd have to book me in for a section at 37/38 weeks. I think this baby is all about the drama :)

GuessHowMuch · 22/07/2016 03:49

Hi everyone! Exciting news for those who have started with early contractions/waters breaking. Hope things are progressing nicely. I'm awful at Mumsnet but popping on here to ask if there is a Facebook Group for August and if someone could please let me know how to join? I'm due this week and realising that I don't think I can cope again with the isolation of being up all night with a newborn without a bit of support. Hope everyone is doing ok - at least it's a bit cooler now!! Thanks!

Belager · 22/07/2016 06:01

Welcome care and guess there is a FB group but I have the worst memory and can't remember who does the invites!

Please keep us updated leslie and four!

shan I hope LO sorts themselves out!

We are good here, have established bf, finished our antibiotics and can go home today! YAY! I'm so sick of hospitals lol.

OwlinaTree · 22/07/2016 07:42

Great news belagar!

Exciting to think there are two more on there way, good luck Coco and hg!

Last day at work, woo!

Bruxellesbelle · 22/07/2016 08:10

Hello everyone, I have followed this thread since bfp, and it has been a lifesaver, hoping I can join and get through these last few days, am 38 + 3 today.
Congratulations for the early arrivals, it is inspiring for me how new mums are taking it all in their stride, as a first timer in a foreign country, I need all the confidence building stories I can get.

MrsPMT23 · 22/07/2016 08:34

Good luck Coco and Hg!

Great to hear you can come home Belager enjoy your snuggles and welcome Belle

Obsessively cleaning this morning!

Last day in work today!

plimsolls · 22/07/2016 08:38

Good stuff hgleslie! There's been another baby announced on the FB group and looks like your two are on their way!

shanster your baby certainly is all about the drama. I hope you're managing ok, it must be quite worrying.

guesshowmuch there is a FB. As far as I know, it's only hgleslie who can do the accepting or invites and she's in labour! So might be a few days.....

Welcome bruxellesbelle

owlina enjoy last day of work!

mrspmt I second CoCo's comment that the woman must be a bitter and small person. I hope she leaves you alone soon.

cheese Flowers

carebear my measurements went from 28 to 34 to 31 and back to 34 over my appointments from 26 weeks to 34 weeks. I think bump measuring is pretty imprecise. Definitely ask to talk it through if you're worried though. Better safe than sorry.

ineedwine I think our arm muscles will get even more of a work out once the baby has arrived!

Sorry to
Anyone I've missed.... Not intentional, I'm using the browser on my
