Congratulations belager She's so perfect :-)

Thanks for the supportive comments and advice everyone. Even more confused today as CBT therapist thinks I am doing well. Have picked up prescription, so have it on hand should I need it. Have started feeling really anxious about labour and childbirth now - think it's the not knowing when it's going to start that's making it difficult as I like to plan and be in control!

38w midwife appointment tomorrow so looking forward to seeing if baby has engaged any more. My midwife is on holiday so seeing someone I don't know. Apart from feeling heavy and having increased discharge I don't seem to have any 'signs', and the instinctive feeling I had that he was going to be early has gone :-(

quitecrunchy · 20/07/2016 22:59

Belager she's gorgeous, congratulations!

bearhuggy · 20/07/2016 23:25

CONGRATS belager and welcome Ashley, she is just perfect :)

Thanks for the tips re. sweeps, saw my midwife today and she said I could have one next friday (due date) or the following monday, but I have declined and am riding this one out as nature intends. Head was 3/5 engaged and baby is in a great position, so hope it stays that way and perhaps comes to meet us sooner rather than later..fingers crossed!!

Shanster · 21/07/2016 02:06

Congrats belager! Sounds like everyone is properly ready, I feel a bit behind everyone else? I'm not due until the 28th, so still 34 weeks here. This baby feels different to my last two though, I don't think I'll last another 6 weeks!!! Have another scan tomorrow, hopefully the wee one has not been tying himself up in his cord again :)

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 21/07/2016 06:41

Congratulations belagwr she is so content in that photo! Sol Sad that despite being a bit early all is week! Enjoy newborn cuddles.
37 + 3 over here and baby doesn't feel like she's dropped at all. So still got little feet poking my ribs all the time. I can have a home birth as of Monday so she can stay out until then and after that I'm serving notice!

hgleslie89 · 21/07/2016 07:13

Greetings from hospital! I'm in having my induction - baby isn't ready to come out, so they're starting at the very beginning of the induction process. Having pretty bad prostin pains - a lot like bad period cramps. Hopefully they're doing something useful, but I won't know until the doctor does a follow up internal exam at 2.

ToElleWithIt · 21/07/2016 08:27

Congratulations belager she's beautiful.

Best of luck for today hgleslie

Sophia I think I would just look on it as a precautionary measure. I ended up down with my GP 2 weeks after having my DS because I was really struggling with anxiety [ I didn't have any history of it]. In the end after talking with him, and a follow up appointment it started to ease, but it's pretty common so I wouldn't take your psychiatrist's reaction personally.

Shanster I'm not properly ready at all. House is a tip, freezer empty, still haven't sorted out cot. I finish up work tomorrow so I'm relying on baby staying put for at least a week to allow me to get organised!!

plimsolls · 21/07/2016 08:54

shanster I'm due same date as you and nowhere near ready (mentally, physically or practically!).

hgleslie good luck!

belager it's amazing that Ashley is so perfect and so little. I hope you're having lots of lovely cuddles. Out of hospital tomorrow! Brilliant!

Laineypopps · 21/07/2016 09:16

Congratulations on all the lovely little bundles!!! It's becoming very real now!! I'm not quite ready for baby to come, too much to do! I am not mentally or physically ready this time. Feeling better after my wk3 hypnobirthing though.

37 weeks today!

Has anyone else hit the nesting stage? I am still in and out of work getting things sorted and have found the motivation to get house tip top before munchkin arrives. New blinds, curtains washed, cupboards and drawers sorted - that kind of thing. Long may it last!!

hgleslie good luck today!! Hope it all goes quickly, smoothly and painlessly! 😘

sophie I can totally sympathise. The whole reason I went to hypnobirthing was due to my feelings of lack of control and anxiety around it. It has really helped, as has reading/listening to the Secret. If you google hypnobirthing Mongan Method there is a cd and a book which you might be interested in. Just a suggestion though!! 😘

Got DMIL and DSIL coming for lunch today so better get my ass in gear!!x

Belager · 21/07/2016 09:30

hg thinking of you.
shanster and plimsoles my due date was the 22/8 so I felt just as behind and underprepared as you guys. I only did my hospital bag on Sunday after being released from hospital post finding out about pre eclampsia. It's not long to go. Final stretch!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 21/07/2016 10:12

belager she is an absolute poppet, and so teeny tiny! So glad all is well and you can go home soon.
Thinking of our other new mamas too - lily, biscuits and pickle hope you're all getting on ok!
crunchy thoughts with you too after your sad loss. Hope you're holding up as OK as you can be.
hgl in for the long haul eh! Induction involves so much waiting around - hope you've got a good book with you Grin fingers crossed for you for 2pm, keep us posted!
Owl sorry baby is a bit small but exciting that you have a date to work too now! Hope you're not worrying too much, it's good that they're keeping a close eye.
Hope midwife goes well Sophia.

Looking like a cooler day here today thankfully, think me and DD might head out to the woods and try and walk this baby out! Have given up on sleeping in bed last 2 nights and moved to the sofa - our sofa is massive and being able to prop myself up with loads of cushions has actually been much more comfortable than lying flat, pelvis feels much better for it. 38+6 today, head on my bladder, feet in my ribs, still plodding along. Come on baby!

quitecrunchy · 21/07/2016 10:28

Thanks coco, I'm doing alright. Keeping busy between the nesting and napping. We're still in the middle of decorating the nursery but I'm no longer much use for it so DH is getting lumped with most of the work. Good job he's on leave at the moment! Belager we were due date buddies, eek!

Good luck today hg!

Daytona79 · 21/07/2016 10:41

Awww congratulations on wee bundles of joys arriving , that will soon be all of us

I'm 37 + 5 today due 6th August

Anyone with similar due date getting lots of low down cramps, like under bump but inside

I'm starting to think baby not gonna stay in there another two weeks but I really need him to

Husband went away yesterday and due home 5th August and really don't want to do this alone

Anyone else very crampy and sore.?

OohMavis · 21/07/2016 10:42

Right, TMI (is there such a thing anymore?)

Anyone else got some skin tags? I got some last pregnancy near my armpit on one on my neck. Bit irritating but not too awful...

Except I am pretty sure I have just found two on my FOOF! What fresh hell is this?! They're definitely skin tags, just skin and not sore at all. What the frigging frig. Ughhghghhg.

CheeseandGherkins · 21/07/2016 11:22

I'm not on fb at the moment and then remembered the thread here, so saying hello. Congrats on the lovely babies already here!

Hg good luck for your induction, hope it doesn't take too long.

I'm 34 weeks today and thought I was going into labour last night. I was having contractions every 3 mins from 7pm until the early hours of the morning. Felt exactly the same as the night before I had dd3, which, oddly, was exactly the same gestation. No baby this morning though and have woken with a bug which dd3 also has as of this morning.

Really want things to happen on their own soon as I have limited options for birth. Another growth scan next week, the last one put her at 5.5lb and that was 3 weeks ago.

Think I did far too much the last few days and not drinking enough. My grandad is dying from cancer and has been admitted to hospital with breathing issues and also suspect he had a small heart attack. I've been visiting a couple of times a day for as long as I can but it's a big juggle with the kids as well. He apparently has weeks to live, maybe months but not long. So so stressed and thinking about what we can do once he is discharged from hospital (presuming he is), as he doesn't want to go into a hospice and my mum won't have him back with her.

Hasn't it been hot? Thought I would melt but thankful that it's cooler today.

Last night made me realise I have to get a bag packed for me and the baby. It still feels surreal but it is actually going to happen soon!

Sophia1984 · 21/07/2016 12:08

Had anyone else been given a sweep at 38 weeks?! My notes said it would be arranged at this appointment but midwife acted like it was standard to do one and didn't really give me a chance to think about it. Am now bleeding and feeling sore and violated :-(

Daytona79 · 21/07/2016 12:10

Sophia no my health place won't do sweeps before 40 weeks

CheeseandGherkins · 21/07/2016 12:15

Yes I've had sweeps earlier than 38 weeks too, in more than one pregnancy.

OohMavis · 21/07/2016 12:20

Sophia It's not standard here, they're reluctant even at 40+ weeks. And they're really unlikely to work before you're actually ready. She should have made it really clear you could have said no and that it was in no way necessary - did she? Sad

Sophia1984 · 21/07/2016 12:24

No she was really brusque and acted like it was standard. Am now panicking and feelin really violated and upset that I let her do it :-( Going to ring the midwives at the hospital I'm selecting at and ask them if it's ok for it to have been done. I'm worried in case it's distressed baby :-(

plimsolls · 21/07/2016 12:29

Definitely a good idea to ring your midwives to discuss. I do think (based on a discussion on here yesterday) that the consensus is a sweep does nothing unless your body and the baby is ready for action anyway, so I'm sure there is no harm that can be done.

I sympathise with how violated you must feel. Horrible that someone will take that action without properly talking it through with you. Smear tests are bad enough and at least you turn up to the appointment knowing you're having one!

BerylMeeps · 21/07/2016 12:33

sophia I had one done on Monday at 38w. Got another booked for 39w. It's fairly standard where I am (north). It is sore and painful, but it does help efface the cervix, and soften things ready for birth. Should calm down in a day.
Remember you can always tell them to slow down, stop and explain things if you aren't comfortable. But likelihood of harming baby with a sweep is extremely low.

Still waiting for baby to come out after mine though!! Clearly it didn't work. More sex, pineapple and birthing ball???

Longtimelistener · 21/07/2016 13:02

Sophia I had one at pre-booked for 40 weeks last time (don't think the midwives were allowed to do them before that in our area). I was told it would be uncomfortable rather than painful, but it hurt so much I refused to have anymore!
Midwife said it was because my cervix wasn't favourable yet. In hindsight, I also wonder whether I tensed up and made it worse (I know I've done that in a smear test before).
I've heard lots of stories of it getting things started if your cervix is already favourable, but it didn't work for any of my NCT group last time (all four of us were offered sweeps once we were overdue).

Sophia1984 · 21/07/2016 13:56

Sorry to hear about your grandad CheeseandGherkins :-( I'm sure the thought of little one being here soon must be giving him strength.

Daytona I'm due on the 4th and have been getting days of periody cramps on and off for weeks, so I wouldn't worry that it means baby is imminent. I'm sure if you had to do it alone you could - do you have a back-up birthing partner planned in case?

Laineypops Will check out Mongan Method. I've been using Maggie Howells hypnobirthing CDs but not entirely sure how I'm meant to use them in labour (which tracks to listen to etc). Just feel so in limbo that it's hard to concentrate on anything, even though I am still officially at work (from home - luckily!)

Daytona79 · 21/07/2016 14:35

Sophia no not really as all my friends either work or have kids, I will just have to see if i do go into labour if anyone around to come with me , my mum has managed to get some leave but she will need to take our toddler. Hopefully baby will stay put for now

Re-sweeps I also refused them in first pregnacy as I had heard they sore and I'm a total wimp and very jumpy being examined I requested minimum internals at hospital when I went into labour and the MW were very good with me.

They don't do them where I am before 40 weeks and if I went late I would rather just get the pessary for induction than a sweep as also heard they not much use.
