I'm starting to tick things off the list slowly but surely now. The nursery has been painted and papered and we have the curtains ready to go up. I'm searching for a light shade and the furniture is in already. I'm hoping when my little boy goes back to school to have a few weeks of getting 'nice' bits like baby clothes and pretty accessories...I just need to hold off buying too much now!

I'm finding I need to eat little and often now - I forgot to have a snack earlier this week and felt a bit weak by lunchtime. Am now carrying a banana with me everywhere so that I don't forget again! I do feel enormous now,it's weird to think that there's 11 more weeks of growth to go before my due date 😳

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 13/08/2016 09:33

I woke up this morning suddenly panicking about not being at all prepared for this baby's arrival! You know when you have that feeling that there's something that you should have done but you can't remember what it is?

So far, I have

  • bought a pram (no car seat)
  • bought a Moses basket
  • sorted out when I'm inheriting DN's cot for when baby grows out of the Moses basket
  • been given a jumbo box of baby wipes
  • been given a steriliser

That is all. No thoughts about a hospital bag. No decorating (not even any tidying to be honest!). Nothing else.

Where do I start?!

corinne65 · 13/08/2016 10:43

Peaspuddin - the NHS should offer you some antenatal classes I would have thought??? If not, the NCT has a cheaper option in addition to their more expensive signature course. If you have read a lot then you might not learn that much - but I have heard it's a great way to make friends & have a support group that sometimes lasts for life.

It's my first too, and I'd say it's a good investment. But the NCT ones do seem to fill up quickly so I'd take a look if I were you.

peaspuddin · 13/08/2016 16:22

I'm having a little girl, been buying lots of pink stuff!! I believe we have everything now but won't know for sure until we move on Friday. Packing today is stressful!

Our NHS doesn't offer classes as there is not enough funding! It's surprising how different every trust is. We had to pay for our gender scan a too (I know that isn't rare), when me sister was pregnant it was all covered. Maybe leaving home wasn't the best idea.

helenatroy · 13/08/2016 16:51

Peas do NCT have anything in your area? Have just booked mine as everyone I've met recently have said it's an amazing course and a great way to meet others in the same situation. Have not been offered any such classes on NHS. However am counting my blessings to be having my baby here. I spoke to my cousin in NY who said on top of her expensive medical insurance they have forked out in the region of $15000 to have her baby.

Ionacat · 13/08/2016 19:17

Hi all,
I'm due 18th November with no.2 (not sure what we are having as this one gave away nothing at the scan) and stumbled across this thread whilst surfing the net watching the Olympics. I seem to be much more relaxed about no.2, just finding my bump is so much more tighter this time and more active!

Spottyladybird · 14/08/2016 17:15

Dd1's clothes and blankets down from the loft and sorted through, my mum has taken all the little stuff away to wash and store until I'm ready for it! Another job ticked off the list.

Fedupithink · 14/08/2016 21:04

I hope everyone has had a nice chilled weekend?

Had a bit of a panic last night about how much stuff there is to do and so little time...guess it was overdue as its been a while since I've stressed.

Went along to the mamas and papas event today, I'd definitely recommend going. There were drinks and nibbles and although the talks were a bit boring as nothing we hadn't already read about and the pram one was very "sales" - the discount was well worth it.

Got some of the new collection clothes and the our pram, the bugaboo chameleon in grey melange! So excited about that. They offer delayed delivery so I've opted for it to come mid-October as didn't want to jinx anything.

Also picked up the monitor, baby toiletries kit, couple of emepergency dummies and some more clothes in John Lewis. Fairly successful day although I'm totally exhausted now!

Fedupithink · 14/08/2016 21:06

Forgot to mention the goody bag - a few brochures and some vitamins plus a £10 gift voucher and a free rabbit rattle which is on sale for £8 Grin

CocklesandMussels · 15/08/2016 08:45

Hello and welcome to newbies!

Fedup yay another bugaboo buddy. I love them, so easy to push, steer etc.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. I forgot DH was working nights so I went to my parents place at the last minute. Dad entertained DD and mum baked vegan scones (I'm not vegan) and generally drove me bananas. She has made a list of about 50 possible baby names and wanted to discuss each one with me at great length. None are to my taste. At least she's excited though.
Unfortunately I appear to be developing PGP! Argh!!!

corinne65 · 15/08/2016 10:04

C&M - what's PGP?

Am already bored of eating healthily in a bid to stave of a diabetes diagnosis - plus no salt because of high blood pressure . . .

My husband has returned from 5 days in Turkey which is good as I was just starting to get a little paranoid about things going wrong & him not being here.

Been galvanised into action by you lot - have decided to only paint one wall of the nursery & to use African vinyl stickers (eBay) - as my husband is South African. I've managed to get a Carrycot for my Easywalker and also a reclining leather chair for breast feeding & generally relaxing (although goodness knows how we are going to get it upstairs).

Hope everyone had a good weekend & that the southerners are enjoying this lovely weather?

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 15/08/2016 10:23

Right, that's it. This week is the week I get myself together! You have all inspired me. First step: work out where I'm actually going to put the Moses basket! (I live in quite a small flat, no exciting nursery for us!)

RuskBaby · 15/08/2016 10:56

Corinne PGP is pelvic girdle pain.
Cockles if you can I highly recommend an osteopath, I had acupuncture which worked a while but the osteopath has been a revelation! Literally gone from being sick th pain had gotten so paid going upstairs one day to pretty darn perfect!

helenatroy · 15/08/2016 13:52

Something in the air. On my way to ikea to look at nursery furniture.

onthemetro · 15/08/2016 14:41

Muffy my flat is a tiny 1 bed so no nursery for me here either! But I am going to make some nice things to hang around where all her things are going to be so it's kind of like her space. Not that she's going to care obviously Grin

I'm so tired and ridiculously hungry, I wonder if this is because of a growth spurt?! All I did over the weekend was sleep and eat and I'm doing the same today.

Does anyone else struggle with taking it easy? There are so many things that I know I should be doing (housework mainly!) and I feel so guilty about not doing them, but at the same time...I'm soooo tired!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 15/08/2016 14:47

That's a good idea onthemetro, I think I might do the same. Off to Pinterest I go!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 15/08/2016 14:47

(And no struggling to do nothing here Grin I'm happy to use my pregnancy as an excuse to sit on the sofa all day!)

coppergrey · 15/08/2016 14:50

metro I am terrible at relaxing. I'm bad at it without adding pregnancy into the mix, but it seems having a baby has propelled me into doing EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE. I can't bear to be sat still!

Got back from Copenhagen late Friday night (not a restful trip at all - lots of walking and cycling!) and spent the entire weekend tidying/sorting/organising. I am absolutely shattered today!

coppergrey · 15/08/2016 14:54

Was prompted to sort through the stuff we've bought after catching up on the thread - turns out we have absolutely LOADS of clothes. I haven't actually bought that much clothing but we've had a few gifts and one of my clients sent me a big package of stuff as a congrats right at the beginning of pregnancy - it's all been sat in a pile so I didn't quite realise just how much we had! Sorted it into a bag ready for washing now so will restrain myself from buying anything else.

I think we have most of the big items other than the cot and changing table... waiting till we finish painting the nursery before we get those. That makes it sound like I'm very prepared - I'm excellent at buying stuff so have got that part all sorted but I haven't even thought about preparing myself/my life for the addition of a baby! So feel very unorganised in that aspect!

CocklesandMussels · 15/08/2016 15:32

We were in a tiny one bed flat when we hadDD, and are only just moving now. It's been fine (apart from me worrying about it!). Nice thing about London is there is so much going on that you don't need to stay at home very much so don't need much space. We're about to reach the dizzy heights of three bedrooms, quite a bit further out. I'm not sure how DD will manage in her own room...

CocklesandMussels · 15/08/2016 18:31

Rusk thanks I'll look into the osteopath suggestion. It's quite hard to walk at the moment.

mrsdane · 15/08/2016 21:36

Hi all, you've also inspired/put the fear of God into me. So much so that I had a trawl on the Boots site earlier and started pulling together items for the hospital bag - they've got a parenting event starting on Wednesday with 10 points per pound on all baby stuff.
Also having measurements sorted for the blind in the baby's room this evening. All whilst starting a new job, and fighting the back pain. Anyone else finding walking, in general, really difficult? Feel so weak with it :(

helenatroy · 15/08/2016 21:36

Cockles. I spoke to my doctor who referred me for pregnancy physio. Girl gave me some great suggestions and a little brace that also goes under the bump. She told me that you don't really need a pregnancy pillow. Just place a regular pillow between your legs and a rolled up towel under your bump in bed. Going to try it tonight. Will let you all know if it works.

latinata · 15/08/2016 21:44

Don't want to arouse any jealousy ladies but these arrived for me in the post today... told DH they were a gift for him!!
