How would you describe BH? I had terrible pains on my left side for a couple of hours this morning. It felt like I was super constipated thankfully I'm not. It also felt a bit like period pains. Does that sound like BH?

coppergrey · 27/07/2016 13:46

Hi Bolly, I've had pains like this too - sometimes a bit crampy, sometimes stabby, sometimes stretchy. Not sure if it's BH, round ligament, general stretching or a combination of all three, but baby is still wriggling about and I don't feel worried by them, so thinking it's all working as it's supposed to.

onthemetro · 27/07/2016 13:47

I think I can feel baby under my ribs now, every now and then it's so uncomfortable but if I move about a bit or poke my belly she moves! So odd.

Did a really short shift at work today (8-11!) because I had my first appointment with the ante/peri/post-natal mental health people, it's so nice to just put my feet up now for the rest of the day. Appointment went well too which is good. Now do I sleep on the sofa or go to bed? Grin

Spottyladybird · 27/07/2016 14:51

I've had some stomach pains too, usually if I need the loo though. Don't think they're BH, I remember it feeling like a tightening last time.

Started feeling big kicks and lumps now, baby was lying on the left earlier and could see and feel a definite lump!

tiredmumrighthere · 27/07/2016 15:42

Bolly it's when your bump goes really hard like when you have a contraction, I've been getting loads today there quite uncomfortable

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 27/07/2016 16:16

stripy I'm from Leighton buzzard!!!! I'm there right now in fact!

I talked about my probable bh with midwife today. She agreed that that's what they were but if they don't shift after a couple of hours to call the Labour ward as she thought it sounded a bit pre term Labour like!! Fingers crossed it doesn't develop!

helenatroy · 27/07/2016 18:36

Has anyone experienced an increase in vellus type hair on stomach or am I turning into a yeti?

Stretchedfortime · 27/07/2016 19:13

Helena - I've definitely had the extra hair thing. Not pleasant.

Haven't had BH but have had stretching pains a lot. I did read that a lot of BH can mean you have a shorter labour as your uterus is more toned. Fingers crossed that is the case for all of you.

tiredmumrighthere · 27/07/2016 20:22

God I hope that's true stretched lol

Anyone ever had a water birth and can give me their opinion on them please? Going through my birth plan soon with my midwife and really want one as I've always thought "yeah I'd like one" but when I've gone into labour I've forgotten all about it and because it's never been written in my plan no ones brought it up!
Think my main concern would be pooing in it I'd be utterly devastated if that happened DP would never let me live it down lol

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 27/07/2016 20:24

I would like to know more about water births too.

Also has anyone been to these hypno-whatsit classes? What are they like?

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 27/07/2016 20:25

And another yeti over here Helena!

helenatroy · 27/07/2016 21:29

It's horrible.

RuskBaby · 27/07/2016 21:32

muffy we are taking private hypnobirth sessions, pretty pricy but had the 1st session and so far so good. Love our teacher and already made me feel better about giving birth, I started out pretty terrified to be fair so there's a lot to do but looking forward to it. Won't know for sure until the next 4 months are up though.

Bollyroo · 27/07/2016 21:43

Thanks Copper and Tired. I guess I always imagined BH to be more like a few quick squeezes rather than a more prolonged squeeze. Hmm, will have to see what happens next.

Has anyone seen the thread on chat called something like "things you wish you'd been told about labour and pregnancy before you were committed"? It's kind of scary and hilarious but it's nice to see how common things are and that whatever happens, you come out the other end ok. Have a read!

As a FTM (quite excited by my mn lingo there) I'm super keen on a water birth. They have a little scoopy net to remove any accidents. I've watched a heap of YouTube of water births and it just looks like the right thing for me.

Stretchedfortime · 27/07/2016 21:55

This may be tmi but among the many things I've been reading (it is helping me calm my nerves), I also read that having an accident is actually good for the baby as it spreads bacteria from the Mum's gut to the baby. This is thought to be one reason why caesarean babies have more weight problems.

Really sorry if that grossed anyone out but it made me feel better about the possibility. And I'm hoping it's past everyone's dinner time.

helenatroy · 27/07/2016 22:11

Stretched. I have 3 sisters with 11 children they have told me gleefully that they had "accidents" having each and every one of them.

helenatroy · 27/07/2016 22:11

That's 11 children between them.

Stretchedfortime · 27/07/2016 22:22

Wow Helena. Sounds like it may be unavoidable. Will keep looking on the bright side of it.

latinata · 27/07/2016 22:41

Joining the other hairy tummy ladies! DH calls it my navel beard. Nice.

We went for a heart scan today (they are standard in Argentina) and it was so nice to see baby again! Its head is down and feet up in my ribs, as I thought!

We are moving house tomorrow and supposedly prepping for the movers tonight. I'm therefore sitting with cake whilst DH does all the hard work!

I made my first proper purchases today- the Babybjorn Bouncer, Sleepyhead and Ergo 360 were my 'big ticket' items. Also got some very well reviewed 'apron towels' from amazon which you tie to yourself and then round baby when taking out of the bath. Look very ingenious!!

Anyone else found any items they think are super clever/unmissable?!

I've also bought a 'Ewan the dream sheep' even though I think they are really ugly, the reviews are all pretty stonking.

Spottyladybird · 28/07/2016 05:52

Ewan was amazing last time around, my dd loved the white noise.

I'm doing Daisy classes which are a mixture of active birthing and hypno and they're great, really helped last time.

Don't worry about pooing, if you're on land (so to speak) the mw will remove from the area without you or your partner noticing. In the water you need a sieve!

Fedupithink · 28/07/2016 07:06

I'm hoping for a water birth at the midwife led centre and will be booking on for the hypno-birthing course which is 2 full days for £200. I've had some hypnotherapy previously for a severe needle phobia (pre-pregnancy so I could get pregnant without stressing) and it worked a treat but was £50 an hour so I figure this is a bargain.

Has anyone booked NCT? Mine start end of September.

bobcat85 · 28/07/2016 08:23

We've booked in for NCT which are also at the end of September. We're booked to do the free course at the hospital as well. As I have no idea what I'm doing thought it would be best the first time around.

Fedupithink · 28/07/2016 08:56

I'm planning to do both too Bob - also my first time and desperate to gather as much info as I possibly can to feel a bit like I know what is going to happen!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 28/07/2016 09:05

Thanks Rusk. I have one DD already but it was a long time ago and all I can remember about birth was the pain! (And the "accident" - it really is very common. I didn't know until DP told me afterwards; apparently they scooped it up straight away!)

I think I'm more scared of labour this time around as I know what to expect now. I hope I can find some local hypnobirthing classes as I'm literally terrified and think it might help.

Slumberparty · 28/07/2016 09:39

Hi all. Hope you don't mind but I'm so excited about my scan picture today I really wanted to share it. Here's my DD!
