How is everyone able to tell what bit of the baby is where?!

That's amazing; I haven't a clue about this stuff.

FuzzyOwl · 19/07/2016 12:05

I wish I had a paddling pool to lie in!

Aye can you feel a solid lump on either side and if so, when you press does it resist or stay? And where are you feeling movement?

Bobcat, no answers here, just sympathy. I have the same thing though, and found sleeping with a pillow between my knees seems to help a little bit. It also helps to alternate between having my legs bent up at an angle somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees, and my legs straight through the hips.

Just been to the GP and I have some antibiotics, hooray! And also a massive bottle of Gaviscon as I had to sleep sitting up last night as the reflux was so bad. Was in tears this morning with it and being sick but starting to feel a bit better already.

Also glad to hear other are having really low kicks too!

Bollyroo · 19/07/2016 12:52

Bob, hopefully I've attached a photo of my sleeping solution... I have a pillow between my knees and I've stuffed an old pair of pyjama bottoms with a cheap thin duvet. That way I always have support for my back, a little rest at the front for bump and enough neck support. I tried a proper maternity pillow last week and woke up so sore on every side. These pjs have worked really well for me and DH says he's quite jealous of my little cocoon - which conveniently also marks my territory so he doesn't take up too much space! Hope you find something that works.

Thanks everyone. Bollyroo that's really helpful, thank you. I'll have to reconstruct something similar.
I've got a big u shaped pillow but had to disgard it the last couple of nights due to the heat.

coppergrey · 19/07/2016 14:33

Bollyroo that's amazing! What a set-up, I'm gonna try that.

bobcat after having horrible sciatica early on that's now subsided, I was doing really well with sleeping until last night when my hips were so painful. Early this morning I went and got my maternity pillow from the office (I'd been sitting on it in my desk chair!) and that helped quite a lot - I think pillow between the knees is the bit that works best. I've also now got a complex about sleeping on my back from reading too many doom-monger threads, even though that's by far the most comfortable position! Sigh.

Feeling very hot today so have mostly been hiding out inside. Although I might venture out for an ice lolly shortly!

corinne65 · 19/07/2016 14:51

Coppergrey I asked my midwife about the lying on your back thing as I'd heard the same thing. She said it was for the mother's health not the baby's - and that you might feel lightheaded if the baby was pressing on your blood supply. I'd really like to know the answer as I often wake up sleeping on my back. Does anyone know for sure if it can negatively affect the baby?

AyeAmarok · 19/07/2016 14:52

Fuzz the movements feel about an inch or two below my belly button. Is that high or low?

I can't feel any particular hard lump though.

Worries baby has no head Grin

I'm going to lie down later and have a proper prod about when I get home. I never wanted to poke too hard in case I dented the fragile baby!

Bolly, very impressive setup!

FuzzyOwl · 19/07/2016 16:18

I don't know Aye! Grin Sorry but that could be high or low depending on how far along you are I suppose. Later in pregnancy, and I am sure that would could as low. The kicks I am feeling feel lower down than my c section scar and as if a foot might suddenly pop out. I have spent most of the day lying on my back and can't feel the head bump now but it has been really obvious until today - but it was the same position DD was in last time, so maybe I spent enough time feeling it then to find it so quickly now. I do find this baby moves into a more obvious and uncomfortable position as the day goes on, so maybe you will have more luck later on.

Another hot day means my ankles look like an octogenarians!!! I've never suffered with swollen feet in pregnancy before (this is my third) so it's freaking me out slightly!! Really really hoping this won't continue for the remainder of my pregnancy!

Gingernut89 · 19/07/2016 20:17

My movements are all low too and mostly to the left side. Also had horrendous hip pain a few weeks back. I got a long pillow from Argos for 8.99 and a wedge pillow too for more uncomfortable nights. Works a treat! Really suffering in this heat though. Bring on the storms tomorrow! Hopefully clears the air!

Gingernut89 · 19/07/2016 21:29

Hey guys, I know they say never ask a lady her age and even more rules for weight, but just curious to see how much weight anyone has put on so far? I just weighed myself and I have put 7lbs on at 21 weeks, wasn't sure if this was normal? Feel free to slap me for asking but was just curious as a first timer! Blush

Stretchedfortime · 19/07/2016 21:37

I've put on 8lbs (4kg) at 24 weeks. I read that any weight gain under 8kg over the whole pregnancy is really a weight loss (and that's not necessarily bad if you start out overweight as I was). But obviously not the time to diet! I can't stop eating beef and peaches at the moment (separately).

Stripykitten · 19/07/2016 22:03

I'm beginning to get worried about how much weight I've gained, 14lbs so far at 23w+5. I was so sick during the first trimester that I'd initially lost weight, so when I could eat again I went a bit nuts with well, everything... cake, ice cream, pizza, chips, etc. I think I really need to start watching what I eat. I had a bmi of 21 pre-pregnancy and I'd like to go back to it afterwards...Confused

FuzzyOwl · 19/07/2016 22:04

I last weighed myself at 24+4 and had put on 10lbs. Last pregnancy I put on exactly two and a half stone. This week The Appetite has arrived though, so I'll probably start putting more on quite quickly.

smellsofelderberries · 19/07/2016 23:04

I honestly have no idea how much I've put on at this point. I know I was up 4lbs at my 12 weeks scan, but I'm just trying to listen to what my body needs and be sensible about treats. Though if this reflux keeps up I imagine my weight is going to soar as the only thing that makes it stop right now is actively eating (or drinking- 4L of water today and counting Shock)

latinata · 20/07/2016 00:07

The battery has gone on my bathroom scales & I'm taking it as a divine sign!

Corinne Emily Oster's brilliant 'expecting better' has a good section on lying on your back. I'll post a pic when I get my copy back 2m. Basically she says that it doesn't affect all women so if you don't feel dizzy, it's not affecting the baby. I nearly fainted in my 20week scan when lying flat, so am avoiding. But wait for me to post pic as I may have misremembered!!

Fuzzy so cool you can identify head from other body parts!

Am loving my dream geni pillow after a few nights of hatred initially. But my pelvis feels all squished up in the morning so I try and stretch legs in a yogi-style position.

Jealous of your heat!! 8 degrees in Buenos Aires today!!

AyeAmarok · 20/07/2016 00:18

I've put on nearly 4kg (7lb) too.

I do worry how much of that is really necessary but trying to just go with it and unclench.

Slumberparty · 20/07/2016 04:06

I didn't put on much at all during the first trimester but now at 23 weeks have put on 13 pounds 😳. I'm hoping that's a normal amount. I don't want to pile on the weight but equally I have been eating large portions so can't complain really...
I almost passed out during 20 week scan too when lying on my back as the doc was pushing so hard on my belly. I haven't felt at all light-headed since when lying on my back so I reckon it's safe as long as you feel normal.

coppergrey · 20/07/2016 06:55

All great advice on the lying on your back thing! Everywhere I read says it will affect you before it affects baby and it doesn't seem to bother me at all, so will try not to worry.

Weight gain... I'm also trying not to weigh myself and just go with what my body and baby need. 10lbs now at 22w which I feel fine with.

onthemetro · 20/07/2016 07:03

God knows how much weight I've gained, I don't really want to know... it's on my notes but in KG (and I only understand lbs and st!) and no one has seemed concerned about it so far. I lost 5 stone a couple of years ago and knowing that I'm gaining weight is messing with my head so I've decided that I'll do as much damage control as I can and deal with it when the baby's here Grin

My mum bought me a fan a few months ago and I thought it was a pointless purchase but I am soooo grateful this week!

tiredmumrighthere · 20/07/2016 08:20

Hello all 23+2 today and feeling lots of movement now, a lot of it is really low down which always creeps me out in pregnancy Confused feels like a hand is poking out of my Minnie Blush

Not sure how much weight I've put on but I'm guessing it's around the 5-7 pound mark, I'm not a person who weighs themselves but went to my mums at weekend and my sister wanted me to get on the scales to see how much was between us both and I was 11 stone, I'm not too worried about gaining weight though as have lost it all 2 weeks after having my others.

I'm proper struggling in this heat!! Have spent most of my time indoors with blinds down and fan on which is just such a waste, but off to playgroup this afternoon with my 2 year old so looking forward to some adult conversation Smile

coppergrey · 20/07/2016 08:56

One thing I have found really helpful for feeling more active/like I'm doing something other than sitting on the sofa eating, is walking. It sounds really obvious but I bought a Fitbit and once I started tracking my steps I realised how little I was actually walking on a regular day (I work from home) so now have a daily steps target and try to get out for a proper stroll every day.

I know it's not possible for everyone but could help if anyone's feeling a bit lethargic but not quite up to gym-going (like I was!). Smile

Stretchedfortime · 20/07/2016 09:31

There's a great diagram on this page called where the weight comes from week by week - it shows you how much is baby, fluid, blood etc at different weeks and also says it's normal to have big gains in the second trimester. expectingscience.com/2014/08/09/a-sudden-bump-up-in-weight-in-the-2nd-trimester-is-common-and-no-reason-to-panic/

Stripykitten · 20/07/2016 09:44

Stretched, I could kiss you right now!!
