I know my placenta is high posterior, so in perfect position basically. Having now booked it and chatted to DH about having it done (who is very supportive) I'm feeling very silly and like I'm worrying for nothing, but if it can rule off the chance of having something go wrong mid-flight then it will be worth it.

Stretchedfortime · 18/07/2016 19:13

Smells, I went for a 16 week private scan and it was 100% worth it. To me looking back at the experiences of everyone here, it is completely understandable that we all want some reassurance. I'm pretty sure that if men got pregnant, the NHS would be funded to give everyone as many as we felt we needed. It just is quite stressful being pregnant and imo you deserve to get any reassurance you need.

bobcat85 · 18/07/2016 19:20

We're right on the South Coast so it's really hot right now. Not a fan of the heat at the best of times. Was off work today with a migraine which had only just eased after three days. Just really tired now, early bed for me. Only 5 weeks 4 days till maternity leave, hurray.

I think I'm feeling a lot more positive now about the pregnancy, I'm actually now excited about baby showing up. He's been kicking a lot lately and I think we've decided on a name now as well.

Hope the scan goes well for you smells. The private scans I've had have always been really nice and much less 'formal' than the NHS ones.

smellsofelderberries · 18/07/2016 19:22

Am currently at an exhibition preview in centra London and while looking at something overheard the people next to me talking to a pregnant lady.
'How pregnant are you?'
'Medium pregnant I guess, not due until October- not as far along as this lady!' Pointing to me Angry I'm due mid November but thanks for calling me fat. I almost put on a confused look and went '...but I'm not pregnant?' Just to fuck with her.

corinne65 · 18/07/2016 19:34

Hi smellso - good luck for your scan on Friday - fingers crossed they just say that it's all absolutely normal. I think my cervix is getting a bit of a battering from the inside as it sometimes feels kicked! Don't forget to do all your exercises on the flight - are you taking compression socks?

Well having only bought a pair of socks I've now bought a pram - I've never seen one in reality - I bought it off eBay. Fingers crossed it will work OK - am no expert as this is my first baby but it seems quite a practical choice for what I want - it's an Easywalker Mosey - anyone got one or seen one in real life???

bobcat85 · 18/07/2016 19:56

I wouldn't worry about it smells, bumps all look different. I'm 10 weeks behind someone I know and I'm about the same size as them.

mrsdane · 18/07/2016 20:10

Ginger , I'm with you on maternity clothes being shit. Seriously, do shops just think you want to wear breton tops and leggings for 9 months? What about those of us who have to wear office appropriate attire?!

I've been surviving the heat in dresses these past days but I've noticed my ribcage is definitely broader than it was and they are much tighter than before. I've been perusing Seraphine/Jojo Maman and I just get annoyed every time I look at those sites. Nine in the Mirror (website) has some lovely stuff but I don't want to spend £200 on a pair of maternity jeans, thanks...

Fedupithink · 18/07/2016 20:13

Copper I think you and I are very similar fashion wise as well as with choices for baby!

Smells my private scan at 15wv before a holiday was 100% worth it just for the peace of mind. You won't regret it.

I have my 24 week midwife appt tomorrow afternoon (at 23+3) so planning to ask about antenatal classes, hypno-birthing courses and the birth centre tours. Is there anything else I should be asking?

I'm also going to get her to weigh me again, I haven't been weighed since 12 weeks so very curious to find out how I'm doing. According to my app anything between 3-7.5kg at this point is totally normal. I don't want to worry about it but I'm cautious about gaining too much as there is form for it in my family.

coppergrey · 18/07/2016 20:49

We're obviously kindred spirits, Fedup! Grin

I weighed myself this morning - I've put on 9lbs so far which seems fine for 22 weeks. I'm trying not to track my weight too much, though. Weirdly I think my face is thinner than pre-pregnancy - a friend told me her face, arms and legs all got thinner so apparently that is a thing!

Also agree that private scans are awesome and well worth the money. I think I'll definitely have another before my due date, even if (touch wood) there's no reason to. It's so lovely to have another chance to see baby!

needanewjob · 18/07/2016 20:59

Smells, how rude was that woman!?! I would have been tempted to look her up and down and say 'oh I think you are a little bit further along than me don't you?' I've got a big bump this time but it is literally all bump, high and completely out front (classic boy bump) I'm embracing it! Before we know it this stage will be over and we will miss all the wiggles and kicks

AlbusPercival · 18/07/2016 21:02

Had my last brownies tonight.

They bought me the most adorable toy of an owl cuddling a baby owl, Lamaze style. So cute.

All starting to get a but real about how life will change

coppergrey · 18/07/2016 21:04

Albus I could cry at that. How beautiful!

I have no time for any comments on the size of my bump. I'm growing a person in here and she'll take up as much space as she likes, thanks very much! People are just plain rude.

Gingernut89 · 18/07/2016 21:10

Thanks Ladies! I think I'll do some hunting around on eBay, avoiding next got some things delivered and they are huge! And I mean me and the hubby could fit into it together! Got nice jeans out of Asos so think will be trial and error but It's the office attire I'm struggling with :(

Also how is everyone coping in the humidity and this heat? I am really struggling today And feeling exhausted.

Lovely to hear loads of grey Melanges! We must all have the bestest taste and quite funny it's a bee, Cameleon and donkey Smile

In other news came home from work today and hubby had painted the nursery and built the furniture! Was all emotional. Really wasn't expecting it! We reserved a new house at the weekend so just crossing everything we can that the mortgage etc goes through. Very nerve racking! Just not sure what way it will go!

Gingernut89 · 18/07/2016 21:12

Smells I would of done the same! Next time just say... What baby? That would be hilarious imagine how mortified they would be? Who said being pregnant doesn't mean you can't have any fun :p

Fedupithink · 18/07/2016 21:24

So rude of her Smells so dangerous to say something like that let alone someone who is actually pregnant. 9/10 id have laughed it off or made some sarcastic comment but yesterday is have burst into tears!

smellsofelderberries · 18/07/2016 23:04

Awe thanks everyone, glad to know I wasn't just being touchy! And also glad to know others have found extra scans into the second trimester reassuring.

Albus that is so sweet of them! Will you see them again before little one is born? Or was that the last one for good?

Copper 9lbs seems really bloody fantastic. I've no idea how much I've put on. Both kind of want to know and scared to find out Confused

Ginger that's so sweet of your husband! And definitely feeling lethargic in this warm weather but am really enjoying it too, it's my favourite sort of weather! It also really curbs my appetite too which is great.

Where is everyone feeling kicks right now? Sometimes mine are up near my belly button or about 5cms diagonally left and down from my belly button, but they're mostly down reeeeally low, only just above my pubic bone. Feels slightly odd, and she seems to hit my cervix quite often too (she's also getting stronger! Ouch) and just wondering if anyone else is getting the same...

needanewjob · 19/07/2016 01:41

My movements are all quite high up. But I think my bump, especially considering its my third, is also very high up. Today I've had a bum right under my rib cage for a lot of the afternoon which means plenty of heartburn tonight! I get movements around and above my belly button for the most part with the odd movement further down

AlbusPercival · 19/07/2016 06:19

Last ever one Smells. Sadly no way I can run that with a baby on tow. Will definitely go for visits though

coppergrey · 19/07/2016 07:26

All my kicks are really low down smells and they feel very weird!

CocklesandMussels · 19/07/2016 08:07

Two little owls, lovely!
I've decided to let DD choose teddies for the babies. It could go horribly wrong... Her favourite teddy is an ancient toy lion made of old 1970s curtain material that belongs to my mum. You'll be able to spot my babies by their dodgy toys.
I've put on 5.5kg/13lb so far. I reckon it's ok, I think most of it is baby/baby/placenta/placenta/fluid but some is definitely podge as I've lost a lot of muscle mass.
24 week growth scan due on Friday, scanxiety is coming back even at this stage.
Smells it's funny how people thing pregnancy makes you public property and ripe for comment. and funny how some people say I'm enormous for my stage, and some say I'm tiny.

Fedupithink · 19/07/2016 08:46

I have only had one comment on my size - I must give off a vibe! A woman at work on finding out baby is a girl said "I knew it, you look pregnant and your arse has doubled in size" I told her she was very rude and we laughed it off, luckily for her I know her quite well and she was mortified.

My FIL does seem to insist on saying "hello fatty" when I see him, last time it happened I said if he did it again he'd get a black eye...hasn't happened since! To be fair I was only half joking, it's so rude!

FuzzyOwl · 19/07/2016 10:28

People can be really rude and thoughtless to each other in general but pregnancy seems to bring out the worst!

I have a head under one rib and all kicks are really low down. It's painful most of the time, I'm hot, tired and not enjoying pregnancy at the moment.

bobcat85 · 19/07/2016 10:54

Is anyone getting hip pain when sleeping? I can't sleep on one side for two long otherwise it starts to hurt, by the morning both hips hurt so it's difficult to get comfortable.
Any remedies?

corinne65 · 19/07/2016 11:37

Gosh - I'm feeling like I've put on loads of weight compared to you ladies - nearly 10kg & I'm only just over 5'. I was on steroid for the first 12 weeks & I really did eat - think I'd better keep an eye on it. So far I haven't had anyone be rude about my size or my age - but boy am I ready for it!!!

25 weeks today & sleeping nearly 10 hours a night (with waking about every 3 hours for a wee of course!!)

Very very hot today - am going to fill my dogs' paddling pool & sit in it I think . . .

AyeAmarok · 19/07/2016 11:51

bobcat I am getting a bit sore on my side. I also have awful rib pain (have had since 15 weeks) and now when I lie on my side my ribs feel like they are caving in on each other and my hips get sore.

Then if I lie on my back the bottom of my back gets sore.

Great fun, eh!
