Yes but most people are entitled to time off for medical appointments aren't they? We are definitely all entitled to time off for antenatal appointments, although I guess most of us don't want to tell our employers for quite a while yet!

Like you I hate lying and I'm terrible at it, so I usually try and stick to something as close to the truth as possible! I will be 7 weeks on the day of my midwife appt, and I think I'm just going to tell work it's a "medical appointment" and leave it at that... vague is good!

neonrainbow · 04/07/2016 20:59

Im definitely wanting to find out the sex at the moment. I might change my mind. My mum doesnt want me to but its not her baby its mine and dhs. Ill try and keep it quiet once i find out but that might be impossible. I think it's the older generation who feel you shouldnt find out.

NameChange30 · 04/07/2016 20:59

(Cross post, my last post was to Jjspoon)

NameChange30 · 04/07/2016 21:02

neon How annoying, I'm going to have very little patience with my mum if she tries telling me what to do! I'd probably do the opposite just to spite her Wink
I like the idea of keeping the sex a secret but in reality I don't know if we're going to be able to! I think we will just tell people we trust not to go crazy with pink or blue (I hate all the pink v blue and gendering of baby clothes)

neonrainbow · 04/07/2016 21:25

I also hate pink and blue! I like bright colours turquoises oranges and yellows and stuff.

LakeOfDreams · 04/07/2016 21:27

Hi there I'm tentatively dropping by after finally getting my very faint BFP today. AF was due a week ago and I tested twice last week which were both BFN but tested when I got up at lunchtime (working nights)
and there it was!! Although they are rubbish Internet cheapies so maybe that's why it took so long to show.

My EDD is 2/3 it all seems a bit surreal at the moment. Our first little girl was stillborn in 2014 and our second is 9 months. Definitely hasn't sunk in yet....booking in appointment with the midwife is around 7 weeks right? Suppose I best book something soon...

Zenzie · 04/07/2016 21:32

I'm mad. Got a positive blood test yesterday (hcg 437, just right) yet couldn't help myself this morning and just POAS! During all my time ttc I never got a chance to due to very short cycles. So it's such a joy to see those two little lines.

Lake, welcome. I hope this pregnancy goes really well for you. What a terrible loss you've suffered.

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/07/2016 21:35

Thanks namechange and alpha It's a bit of a long story, I have posted in relationships before. He's just not any help at all. I won't go on here.

Re time off for appointments, we have flexi time, last time I kept a note of the times I was out of work for appointments, then once I had told everyone, I claimed it back. Might work for some of you?

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/07/2016 21:37

Congratulations Zenzie. I got my bfp with my son soon after my first fertility appointment. After over two years ttc.

Lake, there are at least 4 of us here now with a small age gap, I think we'll need a post natal support thread! So sorry for your loss.

Jjspoon · 04/07/2016 22:35

Employers are not actually legally required to give you any time off for medical appointments with the exception of antenatal ones so they could in theory say no and you'd have to tell them early. But fingers crossed everyone has nicer workplaces than that! I'm going to just see how it goes!

Dozygirl · 04/07/2016 23:01

Nottalotta yes my dd will be one in August. Also have a pretty crap dp. We're always falling out since having dd. He's not all bad though. Dd has been poorly today and ended up in hospital and he's been really good with her and stayed off work to be with us.

Finding out the sex: I found out with dd so I'll prob find out again. Just helps with the preparation although it didn't help with the name choosing. She was without a name for a couple of days. I will advise it's best to keep quiet on what names u do like though otherwise people start giving u opinions on what they think of the name. In saying that, my mil physically laughed out loud at me on my hospital bed as I sat there having just given birth because of the name I chose for dd. It's really not that unusual a name to be laughed at for.

Anyone else forgotten to take folic acid? As I wasn't really trying I hadn't really started and now I'm actually pregnant I've forgotten to start it up. Made my nausea worse last time so a bit reluctant but I know i should take it.

Dozygirl · 04/07/2016 23:08

Zenzie pee away on those sticks. I love seeing the lines. It's so exciting so I totally would've done the same despite the blood test.

Lake welcome and congratulations. Another short age gap here although I think someone has a 4 month old on here so she's even more crazy heehee. Just kidding. Sorry for the loss of your firstborn. She will always be remembered.

Neon I'd never have guessed you were into colours 😉 I'm not major against gender typing but I get sickened by baby blue and baby pink when they're all bunched together in supermarket aisles. Unfortunately once the baby arrives people buy u a shed loads of clothes as presents that are baby pink and baby blue so u end up not having a choice lol.

Dustycorners · 04/07/2016 23:11

Congratulations to all the new joiners!

Lake I'm so sorry for your earlier loss.

Notta I'm sorry that your dh is so shit. I have so much admiration for anyone who parents by themselves, or as good as by themselves because of useless partners. Looking after ds has been the hardest thing I've ever done and I don't think I would have coped if my dh wasn't pulling his weight.

Off to bed for me. The tiredness has hit me like a wall today and I can hardly function.

Hope all those with spotting are ok x

ItsMagicYouKnow · 05/07/2016 05:21

Urgh, the joys of early pregnancy insomnia!

I never know whether it's a hormonal thing, or because there's suddenly a lot to think about! Probably a bit of both! Still, gives me time to MN! Anyone else a newbie here? I was only a lurker last time!

Thanks Rosey for the congrats! I'm glad you decided to take on the promotion! I'm embarking on a new professional adventure myself atm, so fingers crossed for an easy ride nausea and fatigue-wise! During my last pregnancy I was quite ill during the first trimester, but I continued working throughout (albeit in bed). I always wonder whether it would have been different had I not been working from home, and whether I would have just got on with things IYKWIM! It's good to know there are often proactive things you can do to make yourself feel better, and it's really a question of taking one day at a time. Sounds like you have a good working atmosphere, so that's great! When will the promotion come into effect?

Thanks alphabook, sounds like you've been on a rollercoaster to get here. I've got everything crossed for your first scan, not long now! Do you have any other DC?

Dozygirl I forgot the folic acid too Blush! Last time we were properly TTCing, so it was like a military operation, but this time... I'm going to start taking it asap. I've held off Googling it, and reassured myself by thinking that in France (where I am), you get prescribed it at your booking in appointment, so they don't expect you to be taking it already. Interesting point about the nausea though, I remember now that I stopped taking Pregnacare last time and just took FA by itself to try and help with the nausea (after extensive Googling I imagine!).

Time to start work methinks! Hope everyone's OK x

ps2304 · 05/07/2016 06:57

Hello everyone, can I join? Got a bfp yesterday. First ban so very nervous!
Here are pics of 11dpo and 12dpo tests. Do they look ok?
I'm 27 DH 29. Was our first month ttc. Feel how very lucky and scared!!

ps2304 · 05/07/2016 06:59

Baby not ban!

NameChange30 · 05/07/2016 07:23

Congrats newbies!

Dozy and Itsmagic, I've heard that Pregnacare can make nausea worse, but folic acid is important, so why don't you just take folic acid by itself? You can also get folic acid plus vitamin D which are the two most important (everything else is just "nice to have").

Symptom-wise, how is everyone getting on? I have sore boobs. I usually sleep on my front and that's painful now Sad Also still got cramps. Plus tiredness and insomnia, which is a cruel combination! I've gone from being an night owl to an early bird which I suppose is good training for parenthood but is a bit boring when I get tired so early in the evening.

BridgetDoodle · 05/07/2016 07:45

Hi ladies. Have not slept a wink. Going for a scan today. We have decided to go private for my ante natal care and they see me from 8 weeks. I think I'm only 4w 6d today but GP has me down as 8w 4d. This is my first pregnancy, had a lot of symptoms last week but they have settled this week (apart from tiredness). Panicking he isn't going to see anything and baby is gone 😓

SecretScaryFriend · 05/07/2016 08:11

Hey Bridget good luck today.
I understand that if it is before 6 weeks the sac isn't always visible so try not to panic if you really are less than 5.

ItsMagicYouKnow · 05/07/2016 08:23

Yes, good luck Bridget, thinking of you x

ItsMagicYouKnow · 05/07/2016 08:33

Congrats ps2304! Tests look good to me Smile

Thanks Name, I've actually already ordered some FA (remembered after DTD Blush), but forgot about the Vit. D, so thanks for reminding me! I'll see what my GP says too, she might prescribe a multivit.

Wasn't expecting any boob difference, because they didn't seem to get the message during my last pregnancy, but I noticed they were a bit, er, perkier, this morning, and my nipples have almost doubled overnight Shock! No tenderness though, so making the most of tummy sleeping for as long as possible (I think I made it to the 2nd tri. last time)!

Still feeling dizzy, the aforesaid insomnia, and a bit of nausea/tummy ache this morning. Plus, weird-smelling sweat... Hmm

Happygojo86 · 05/07/2016 08:54

Good luck with the scan Bridget. If you are only 4+6 they are very unlikely to see anything so don't be disheartened.

I have a bit of nausea but I'm still worried.

Sparrowlegs248 · 05/07/2016 09:01

I hadn't been taking folic acid as wasn't ttc, but had some left over from last time so have started that and bought the combined fa and vitamin d from boots.

dusty I have often said this would be easier if I was on my home. The first 6. months I was constantly upset and disappointed at dh doing sod all, I am sure it would have been easier without him. I would have got more help from family and less work at home cooking etc. Now that I'm pregnant with my second, I feel the pressure is actually off. I was staying in the hope of having a second in future.

I couldn't take pregnacares or seven seas, made me so constipated. Had a good day yesterday though, think the wristbands are helping, and feel OK today too. Still, makes you nervous doesn't it?

Gardencentregroupie · 05/07/2016 09:29

notta sorry your OH is rubbish. It makes life so hard doesn't it.

I think the hormones are kicking in. It has been a total sob fest here this morning.

alphabook · 05/07/2016 09:40

Congrats Lake! So sorry to hear about the loss of your first baby.

And congrats ps2304, they look like very good lines to me!

Thanks Magic, no this is my first.

Wishing you lots of luck for your scan Bridget.
