Afternoon all. Have caught up with the gist of the thread today...

Re Bumbos - we borrowed one for DS and am glad we didn't buy one. Yes its useful for feeding but I used his bouncy chair for that as well as it was adjustable. Also DS kept dropping toys and then wasn't able to reach the floor to pick them up - very annoying!

Re schools - my DS is also a spring/summer baby and I think the Sept intake is really too early for children who are young for their yr. I am an August baby and started in the Easter term before I was 5 and it hasn't held me back in life!! Not sure why society is so keen to put children into school so early when many other European countries (and the US) wait until they are 6. There's such a massive gap bewtween those who turn 5 in the Sept and those who have just then turned 4, esp when there's 30 children in the classroom. And I don't think the UK is streets ahead educationally, in fact quite the opposite unfortunately. Anyway DS won't be starting reception until the Jan before he's 5 if I have anything to do with it!!

Right I'll get off my soap box now!!! Sorry - its just a particular bug bear of mine but then this government is SO AWFUL on so many childcare related issues!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 22/01/2007 14:55

Hotlips, I think it depends on the child, but it would be nice to be given a choice you're right. Dd is pretty smart and ready for school (and that is not our view, but views of other parents etc.) I guess we will just have to wait and see. I guess if in the long run, she needs to stay down a year then we will cross that bridge. I stayed down a year and it hasn't affected me - well not too much!!!

eca · 22/01/2007 15:19

hi all
Hope everyone's ok.
Pesha - my baby always seems to lie across or head up. I'd been thinking the same things as you, but i think it's really too early to worry about that yet, so pushed it to the back of my mind.

Saw mw this am. Got blood taken again (they messed it up before) and had vv painful anti-d injection. Thankfully i don't need any more of those now. Hurrah!

Really excited to get baby's room furniture delivered this morning too. It looks so cute all ready in the room. Seriously feeling nesting kicking in at the moment!

hotlipsmummy · 22/01/2007 15:22

I'm not staying stay down a year, just it would be nice that v. young children (mainly July/Aug babies) who aren't ready are not forced to start school with children who are in effect a yr older than them! And i think class sizes are too big but that's another matter! The state used to provide a choice but now it seems if you want your child to start after Xmas in their year intake you have to go private. It also works the other way, of course, and some parents feel like its a long wait to start schoiol for those who are amongst the older ones in the year group. My cousin is an Oct baby and should be the year below me but he was in my year at school as his parents didn't want to wait. I think the only issues he had was being the last in his class to learn to drive

I hope I haven't offended anyone, didn't mean to and, of course, I may well be eating my words in 2 years time about DS!!! Although the thought of my "baby" being old enough to start school breaks my heart!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 22/01/2007 15:30

Hotlips, I know where you are coming from. What I meant was that if dd starts school in September when turning 4 at the of May, and it all proves too much too early, then I guess she could stay back and repeat the year which I would not have a problem with.

There is a huge difference though in terms of ages of children that go to school. We have a friend who will be 5 a month after he starts at school, but will be in the same class as those who only turned 4 in the August.

Birdiebump · 22/01/2007 15:32

Pesha - my LO appears to have her head permanently lodged top right against my ribs - very uncomfortable! I'm 28 weeks now and of course mw says she has plenty of time to turn....

Hotlips & SOSPL - Funnily enough Hotlips, I am aware of the school of thought to which you subscribe (god I can sound up myself sometimes !) and am in fact inclined to agree. I think my bugbear is, seeing as they are already teaching DS2 all this stuff at Day Nursery where he is learning it all quickly and happily (I make no effort at all in this department) and I am paying through the nose for it, I would rather he carried on and got it for free as soon as possible! Both his first and second choice schools are tiny and seem to be really lovely. I can't wait for him to start and I guess I just think it's unfair that there's one rule here and another elsewhere IYSWIM.

muminabigtumi · 22/01/2007 15:50

Hi everyone...my head feels like mush this afternoon...cn't remember what I wanted to say!!

SOSPL - hurray for men bearing gifts! Glad you had a restful weekend.
I went to bed at 8pm lastnight - was just so tired! Just done my Tesco shop and debating a quick power nap before I pick James up!

Will pop on later when I'm feeling more chatty.....just want to sleeeeeep....

some news...woman at work's DIL was pregnant with twins and she has delivered over the weekend at only 23 weeks ....we don't know much else but please can everyone spare a wish for them...poor wee mites. I certainly counted my blessings when I heard....seems like awfully early to me
x

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 22/01/2007 16:30

MIABT, sorry to hear you are feeling a bit pants. Hope you get some rest.

Also, sorry to hear about the twins' early birth. Sounds a bit touch and go - will keep my fingers crossed for them all.

Right, going to grab a cup of tea before picking dd up.

See you later.

weeonion · 22/01/2007 16:41

miabt - thoughts fro eh wee twins as well. xox

liayh - got yr email address - will get to later! poor u and lack of a seeing to - demanded it over the weekend and got what i needed but think dp is still in shock. he has had the cheek to ask how come i can "do that" but struggle to roll off the sofa to pick someting off the floor when i drop it.!!

i have warned dp thath eis expected to get me gift post labour. god only knows whati might gwt. he is normally pretty good with gifts but i do remember in teh early days of knowing him - asking for a surprise back from a shopping trip and got presented with a box of tampons. think he was tryign to be a new man??

Birdiebump · 22/01/2007 16:44

PSML - WeeOnion !!!!

Also thinking of twins and their family. Fingers crossed they make it through ok.

hotlipsmummy · 22/01/2007 16:50

WO - very funny!!

On the birth pressies I too had a long wait (18months!! ) but was worth it - have an emerald and diamond ring from DH (emeralds are the birth stone for May when DS was born) which he had made for me rather than getting from a shop. So its unique etc etc - btw I did help with the design etc, he's not that brave!! For those that are interested diamonds are the birthstone for April Hurrah!!

PS am hoping that I don't have to wait another 18 months...

Thinking of the twins.

EllieK · 22/01/2007 16:58

wow, have finally caught up!

GMM I too thought that the posters on the For Sale threads sounded like the same person, or best friends sat at the same computer!

1b3 great news on N leaving, but make sure you put your foot down and don't let DH end up driving more instead!

MIABT my new man has 4 kids from his marriage, he has access every other weekend and only finds out that they've been ill/in hospital when he picks them up, he turned up once to find his ds had spent 3 days in hospital and she'd refused to contact him as it wasn't during 'his time'

Katy44 "Clarice- can I come and rub my DD, all over yours. " i did have to look twice at your post

I too have a hairy tummy, last time it convinced me i was expecting a boy (which i was) and this time i am also having a boy and have a hairy tummy! i think it's just a pg thing really tho!

On the names front, I have Matthew already, want another simple, traditional name to go with it. Ex.p likes Sam but altho i like it there is someone i work with (and have history with) called Sam so i'm not so keen. we're still friends but the final straw was discovering his elder brother is called Matthew! his mother would think i was psycho . I like Charlie but Ex doesn't. After catching up on all your posts I now really like Joe. Ex seems ok on it too, just emailed him! I like Jack but as it's his nephew's name it's kinda a bad idea!

Chicken Pox - I had it twice, and then shingles! my dad had it twice, as he took pleasure in telling my bro when ds got it before christmas, bro had just looked after him for 2 days when the spots appeared

Have just had a look on netmums.com, i really want to meet other mums near me, as I seem to be the only 'due in April' anywhere in East Anglia looks like i'll be having a meet-up on my own

cazboldy · 22/01/2007 17:04

Hi don't know if anyone remembers me from ages ago, but life is just manic and don't come on that much and then when I do there has been so much to catch up on that I just haven't gotten round to it.
EllieK where are you in east anglia (roughly) I'm there too!
Anyway in case you don't remember me......
I am 29 wks pg with baby no 5 and am due on 6th which I am told is Good Friday!

EllieK · 22/01/2007 17:07

It is indeed good friday caz, i'm due on the 9th which is easter monday!
I'm just outside Buury St Eds x

EllieK · 22/01/2007 17:09

ooh, meant to ask, any ideas for new thread names? think we need a new one! has anyone noticed that the May thread just uses the date of the week, are we being too imaginative??!!

I was thinking it should be something like - Due in April 2007 - BigOnion to the Rescue

EllieK · 22/01/2007 17:11

am i being unreasonable - ds has just watched his Maisy Mouse dvd twice and I said no, he can't watch it again

weeonion · 22/01/2007 17:15
