weeonion - reminder to self to read yr posts before posting. oops on repeating your direction....

1becomes3 · 16/01/2007 17:05

SOSPL is that true about a bad back from sleeping on it? I keep finding myself on my back as it gets sore when I am on my side.

As for kicking babies mine give me no peace at all, think of a water bed and how if you poke it you can see the ripples moving across it and it jiggles about, then add some arms and legs poking out of it and that is pretty much how my tummy looks!
IT IS WEIRD!!!!

Katy44 · 16/01/2007 17:13

weeonion, I really appreciate the thought. And we've been wondering whether to get a dog for a while - it's almost fate! The chocolate will just be a bonus
Think I'll call him BigOnion

weeonion · 16/01/2007 17:15

1B3 - hope it all goes ok 2morro. must be strange to see all that activity whilst feeling it at same time! how does yr dd react?i remember mum having twins - i used to spend hours watching her belly as she got too big to move away. also painted her toenails a very lurid red - she couldnt move to get it off and when she went into labour early- all the obs/ consultants commented!

1becomes3 · 16/01/2007 17:24

My dd likes to rub my tummy, I don't think she knows what is going on with big fat mummy.
We ask her where the babies are and she points at my tummy, and gives them a kiss, I don't think she really understands though.

weeonion · 16/01/2007 17:29

lol lol katy - that is what my dp gets called. u now know our nicknames

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 16/01/2007 17:45

Just been to dentist - ds1 had complete meltdown - eventually agreed to have his teeth counted - then ds2 lay on couch, opened mouth, had teeth counted - angelic! The dentist gave ds1 a tooth rubber and ds2 a Cars cup - ds1 went mental once he realised and threw his shoes at me Has been sent to his room til tea is ready. He knows he was naughty and is cross at himself rather than me. Thankfully they don't need to go back til next January!

Good luck for tomorrow 1b3 xoxoxoxox

eca · 16/01/2007 17:54

Yvie! Glad someone else is feeling kicks 'down there'! I've started to and it's the wierdest sensation!

Well done CFK for surviving dentist with ds's! They must be a scary place for a little kiddie! Thought the dentist was a bit silly handing out different things to each one! Receipe for a tantrum!

Emmymummy · 16/01/2007 18:04

Evening - can't believe we're onto another new thread already - didn't even finish reading the last one (oopppps, sorry ).

Have been to Ikea today to get some new furniture for dd's room as the baby is having her current wardrobe and chest of drawers. We still have so much to do in terms of sorting out upstairs. It all looks like a complete bomb-site up there at the moment as we're having to empty out the spare room and re-distribute all the junk into the other bedrooms and around the house. Nightmare, need a bigger house!

Wanted to thank BBCFK - I think it was you who is into Freecycling. Finally registered myself into our local group the other day and advertised a table on there on Sunday - it had been collected by Monday lunchtime. What a brilliant idea. Just need to stop myself taking everyone else's junk now!

weeonion · 16/01/2007 18:09

emmy - i am also now into freecycling. great idea. i have got rid of loads and meet some other mums in my area that way!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 16/01/2007 18:33

BigOnion! Hilarious name for weeonion's St Bernard! I lol and dh wondered what I was laughing at!

BBCK, I am terrible, and haven't taken dd to the dentist yet, but am going to v soon. Bit daft that the dentist didn't give them both the same treat - obviously doesn't have kids!!

Yvie/ECA, baby here is very low - have had lots of comments on it - and I am getting kicked down there too. Feels soooo heavy!

Right, need to do Tesco on line as we will starve otherwise!

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 16/01/2007 19:04

DS1 was asking for a sticker - the dentist asked him if he deserved a sticker which prompted him to open drawer a present ds1 with the rubber and ds2 with the cup - to be fair to him he thought he was being fair in rewarding ds2 for being extra good - but I think I would have just given ds2 a rubber and ds1 nothing! A cup is a huge reward to give a toddler - was quite suprised myself! Mind you do pay enough in private dental care - maybe I should ask for some diamonds next time

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 16/01/2007 19:05

WO - I have the Lorenzo cotbed aswell - got the changing unit too as have never had one!

doginsantasgrotto · 16/01/2007 19:16

Hi everyone - blimey, am on line every day and still it takes me almost half an hour to catch up each time!
EllieK thanks for tip re. ebay and maternity clothing for wedding. Will check later.
BBCK - am quite interested in your Coast outfit if you have a chance to post a pic? I am normally a size 12 in Coast stuff but am size 7 shoes so they would be no good. Very kind of you to even offer it for borrowing.
EllieK - hope you have sorted out man troubles by now. Whilst the beginning of a relationship has major pluses (the excitement etc.), it can also be quite a testing time as you are finding out about each other (not least when pg!)
Pesha - hadn't thought about that re. clothes post birth. I was just thinking how nice it would be to have LO in the Spring and have the Summer to look forward to getting out and about. As a first timer, have no idea about how quickly/how much weight will be lost. Was looking at new Boden Spring book today and so frustrating not being able to kmow whether will revert (albeit eventually) to my old size or will go up a size at least. Would love to buy something to cheer myself up and aim towards!
Yvie - thanks for reminding me of that lovely passage from the bible. Had that read at our wedding last year and it is so true and worth remembering sometimes.

WO - sorry, I thought my stats were up to date. Where will I find the link (you must all know by now that I am rubbish at this technololgy business - remember my fiasco with photobucket AND I still haven't worked out how to change back my festive name!
MIABT - have read good reviews about that 'getting rid of matthew' book - let me know how you get on with it as might get it myself.

talking of books - has anyone got any recommendations for pregnancy/baby related books? I have enjoyed the baby whisperer by Tracey hogg but someone has just recommended the yummy mummy's survival guide by liz fraser. Any comments?

hotlipsmummy · 16/01/2007 19:30

Evening all. DH has just home in time to put DS to bed. I was literally dragged out of the edroom by DS and told to go away! Am not that bothered actually and it was nice for DH who has been at the receiving end of "No Daddy, Mummy" alot recently.

Anyway LOVE my new p&t although as it is raining I took DS out in the Maclaren this afternoon! An when I opened the box there were the mudguards too, bonus!

1b3 - good luck tomorrow. Its feels weird enough just having 1 baby in there never mind 2!

Re books - I loved the What to Expect series, very informative without being "political" if you know what I mean. Also enjoyed The Rough Guide to Pregnancy as a lighter read. Once DS arrived I read baby whisperer and found "She who shall not be mentionned" a life saver - you have to use your own common sense with that book though and not be too literal. I applied her logic to my baby iyswim and it seemed to work...

Persoanlyl am very pleased to be having a spring/summer baby - could not be doing with all the layers every time I had to go out my toddler! I did find that I was wearing my old mat clothes for a while after having DS (also a summer baby) and i had some many other concerns what i looked like was bottom of a long list!!!

Anyway must go and see what I can reheat (don't do cooking!) for DH's supper!

muminabigtumi · 16/01/2007 19:35

How the hell did we get to nearly 50 posts on a new thread since after lunch???
Off to catch up - DS in bed - tea in oven - bliss.......
x

hotlipsmummy · 16/01/2007 19:36

sorry at all the spelling errors...

weeonion · 16/01/2007 19:40

i have quite a library of books growing but as a first timer - dotn know if they will prove much use in the actual prep for childbirth/ labour and early months of mothering!!
i like the what to expect books as well, enjoyed the pregnancy bible and have also got the miriam stoppard ones. dp got me an active childbirth one for xmas (the old romantic!?) and i have enjoyed it tho i dont know if i am so keen on teh idea of naked childbirth and total non-intervention. i bought dp the hanes baby manual for blokes- have fund it quite a laugh but more in the "oh aye right - read this thread on mumsnet for a better idea".
i guess it depends what u r looking for really.

liath · 16/01/2007 19:48

Hi folks!

Gosh, the usual million messages to read .

I found the best friend's guides good (pregnancy
& motherhood) & very amusing. I am also a closet user of she who cannot be named for legal reasons but only when I wanted some ideas for getting dd into a routine. A friend is a dedicated fan and you cannot possibly meet up with her if it clashes with Nap Time.

Good luck tomorrow, 1b3!

Had a fab day today. It wasn't blowing a hurricane for once & DH is on annual leave all week so we went to a great family park/farm near here and met up with my sister her DH & Ds. The kids had a ball feeding animals, bouncing on trampolines etc etc. The Dhs talked techno geek talk all the way round (all I heard was "rhubarbrhubarb high definition rhubarbrhubarbrhubarb blueray rhubarb.....". My sister & I decided the best way to get her into labour (she's 39 weeks pg) was to get on the trampolines with the kids . Am amazed I managed to stay continent.

I love being a mummy ! It was one of those days where you think being a family just rocks!

eca · 16/01/2007 20:30

ahhh... liath, that sounds like a luuvlyyyy day!

Books... mmm, I've been reading the Rough Guide to Preg. Really good, but bit distressing to read her really alarming experience of labour and emergency c-section.

Must say am finding MN invaluable. Not got many mummy friends to ask stuff, so it's great for finding things out and hearing other people's stories.

Pesha · 16/01/2007 20:35

Best baby book i ever read (not that ive read many ) is 'How not to be a perfect mother' by Libby Purves(I think, its something like that). Its brilliant, very funny and full of great tips. One of my favourites being if people stop by unexpectedly to see the new baby and the house is a tip quickly get the hoover out so it at least looks like you were about to do something about the mess! Have done this many a time, and not just with a new baby!

BBCK - glad all is ok with the baby. Both my babies were born back to back. As far as im aware its not actually a problem its just it can make it more painful labour which obviously isnt a good thing but plenty of time still for baby to move.

Have no idea what position my baby is in, its really difficult to tell what is what and tummy seems a little soft ish, actually bit worried I have lots of amniotic fluid which is why its hard to tell. Excess fluid and unusually large uterus are 2 signs of edwards syndrome which is why i worrying a little bit but thats what scan is for next week so trying not to think about it too much and just wait. Scan is at 2.30 followed by seeing consultant at 2.45 (yeah right!!) so need sopmeone to have ds and collect dd from school. Was going to ask my mum and step dad to do it but actually if there is something wrong i cannot face coming home and having to tell my mum straight away. She'd be nice in fact she'd be all oh my god are you ok and emotional and prob cry and want to hug me or something and i just couldn't handle it. We dont have that kind of relationship, never have and its not what i need from her. Sorry that prob makes me sound like a bitch but hey, I am!!

WO - have no idea how you are coping with being on a bus by 5.30, I have a job being up by 8 to get kids to school. Did lol at you saying 'out i go' before fainting

1b3 - good luck with seeing consultant tomorrow, will be thinking of you. And you have to post pic of your lovely big bump

Katy44 - have my dog if you want one!! He's lovely really but i've completely gone off him since being pg. It started cos the smell of him made me sick and although this has calmed down now i am still finding him immensely annoying. Sure its my hormones really.

Yvie - Ive also been lying on my back quite abit, i dont like to but my hips really hurt when i lie on my side so I end up tossing and turning all night.

Maveta - I sneezed today and leaked a little bit for the 1st time too (this pg that is!!) We are definitely into the 3rd trimester now i think with all our aches and uncomfortableness and leaking and all. And pmsl at everyone (including me) getting everyones names wrong and getting confuddled about things and forgetting and all. We really are like a bunch of old ladies! Could we be more pregnant

muminabigtumi · 16/01/2007 20:44

Ahh laith sounds like a great day - I did venture on a trampoline in the summer with my Dad's girlfriend - jumped once and peed myself
and I'm still forgetting my pelvic foors!!!

Weeonion - so glad your ok - what a horrible experience to have fainted. You take care points finger and wags in motherly fashion!

I had just about every book written on pregnancy in my first pregancy and have given them all away to my various friends who fell pregnant after me - I really the rate the "What To Expect" for information, Miriam Stoppard was good and covers everything. Love The Best Friend Guide for a bit of a giggle...my fave tho was one I got for Phil...forget the bloody name but it was a "Blokes guide" and had a pic of a pregnant fella on the cover and the cover was pink - we were BOTH in hysterics reading it and true to form Phil gave that to his brother when he was gonna be a Daddy so I can't look at the title but you'll find it in Waterstones...etc
She who must not be named frightened the bejeesus out of me but I took on board a bit of it and ignored the stuff I didn't like...
erm...
Just had my tea and BONUS of all BONUSES found some marshmallows in the back of the cupboard....Katy - you reminded me about them they have been there ages - so I have just scoffed them and now also want chocolate and have no Phil to restrain me!!!!

Hotlipsmummy - glad you are loving your new P&T.

Dogin..I am enjoying thoroughly the book - am a few chapters in now and I think it's going to be a good one. When I looked at it again this afternoon I didn't realise the woman that wrote it directed "This Life" so it's bound to be up my street as that was my fave TV prog ever. Well worth the £3 from Tesco as it's on offer at mo!

LMAO - at BigOnion the St Bernard...He can become the patron St of Pregnant Ladies in dire need of chocolate...can just imagine his barrel being full of the inners of a Lindor Red Chocolate - YUMMMMY!!!

1b3 - thinking of you for tomorrow - I am sure all wil be fine hun but I know it doesn't stop the worry.

BBCFK - glad you went up to get monitored but just a shame that you didn't feel 100% reasured...so feel for you re the visit to the dentist...like SOL I have not dared take James yet....struggle every day and night to get him to even brush the things....

All this talk about kicking...this one is far more active than James ever was and so I was assuming it must be a girl....my Mum put her hand on my tum today and it did the biggest kcik ever - my Mum got quite a shock and so did I! I was pleased tho as you could tell my Mum was dead chuffed to have felt it.

Well I had great plans todo a load of ironing tonight but I realy can't be arsed...started to watch a birth programme on Living and it scared me so I switched over!!!

Might just slob out and actually watch what I want on TV for a change...true to form Phil has just rung to ask me to check the score of the Man Citymatch on prem plus - FFS!!!!!

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 16/01/2007 20:51

Halooo Ladies......The not lying on your back thing is also to do with the fact that it can restrict blood flow to your heart and as it is working extra hard 'they' don't recommend it.
My Irish Terrier is in season and dogs have travelled from miles around to circle the house like feckin sharks!Dp is away all week and i have to take her out and stand with her..she needs a bodyguard. One of the mums from my sons school came round for coffee today..i don't know her that well.I had just opened the front door and 5 secs later was bellowing as one of the dos was attempting to mount her[my dog..not the mum] Wonder if she will become a friend
Good luck tomorrow 1b3
My spd is really painful i don't think driving helps.
Look after yourselves and your beans.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 16/01/2007 20:52

Oh Pesha, lol at the smell of your dog making you feel sick! What a shame!!

Re books - I have the whole range of What to Expect, and I think they are fabulous - a real life saver. I spent many hours looking through them in the middle of the night if there was something up with dd. Also I am a huge fan of the unmentionable lady.

1B3, good luck with the scan tomorrow, and we look forward to hearing from you.

I bought "getting rid of Matthew" today. I think I had read the review in heat magazine.

Re lying on your back, I think it is just to do with the weight pressing on your back. At least with hips we have 2 of them and can therefore spread the pain equally!

Hope everyone is having a good evening. I have just had a giant bowl of pasta and am stuffed. I was full half way through, but couldn't stop!

runnyhabbit · 16/01/2007 21:04

Evening all

Big, Big Apology to make - I can't make tomorrows Bristol meet up. Combination of having a sieve for a memory, and an arse of a boss (reckons he never agreed to time off, and today was too short notice)

Lol at all the sex talk - me and dh have been together 6 1/2 years, married for just over 3 of them. We tend to go through phases iyswim, although I have to say that having dh didn't affect us in any way. I had the coil fitted after he was born, and I found it quite liberating after being on the pill for so long.

Got my crutches today! Got to say it, I cannot fault the NHS here. Only rung them this afternoon. Agree with you who feel like an OAP. The only thing was I felt like a fraud in the physio dept. Walked in with ds and was seen straight away.

Need to have a bit of a rant about my boss (you've been warned!) Arranged for my next physio appt to be in 4 weeks time at 8am, which would mean I could drop ds off at nursery, and be in work for about 9/9.30 ish, so I'd be an hour late. I know I only work mornings, but tbh its not practical to take ds to physiotherapy. Told boss this, gave him copy of appt card (doesn't say what its for, just "Hospital" at the top) And he asked me to try and rearrange for an afternoon, when it wouldn't affect work. Didn't even ask what the appt was for ffs. This is the same man who wanted me to start my maternity leave in february!!!!so I don't expect him to ask after my health every day, but I don't hink he's asked how the pregnancy is going once. Might just take my crutches in tomorrow to see his reaction, although that might mean he'll want me to start my maternity leave even earlier....
