£5 for 3 here. EPU do one for free - which is great as that's all I've got to physically remember two of my miscarriages by. I got one for free at last week's 12 week scan, but I think that's consolation for not being able to do anything useful is the scan! I don't mind paying - it goes to fund more equipment.

Bigfam · 29/05/2016 20:08

Congrats to you both, Mr and Mrs dog Grin I've not seen any dads to be on these threads but this is also the first one I've been on (I'm on the antenatal thread for Jan 2015 though) of course there's room, the more the merrier

pacificlass · 29/05/2016 20:10

I'm on my work trip now complete with stockings that made sure I wasn't joining a mile high club. Flew business, which I never do, and staying in a hotel with a brewery on site and a free minibar. Typical! Had to roll out the "antibiotics" excuse at dinner as I haven't told work yet and this is a client trip. Welcome to the newbies.

swancourt · 29/05/2016 21:20

Hello to all the newbies - mums or dads Smile

Feeling so so anxious. Lost all my symptoms. Boobs still slightly sore but not like they were, no sickness/nausea at all, and able to eat everything (I just couldn't face cooking even four or five days ago).

I've never had a successful pregnancy this easy. I've been saying all along it feels like my last MC. I really want another scan but I know the GP refer me to the EPU unless I lie and say I've been spotting. I did briefly consider that option on another thread but it just feels wrong to use NHS resources when I'm not bleeding and it's probably just me being neurotic. So I'm going to book another scan I can't afford and hope to get in this week. I'm 9 weeks now so if I see the heartbeat again I think I'll be able to relax.

Hope everybody else is getting through better than me!

lilydaisyrose · 29/05/2016 21:27

Gosh I've been so busy today I've just realised I've not eaten since 11am, no wonder I'm feeling so awful!! Off to see what I can find in the cupboards now!

TinySalmon · 29/05/2016 21:41

Hi swan. Try not to worry! Around the 9 week mark I lost my symptoms and then they came back with a vengeance at 10 weeks (I'm 10+5 today) and have been sick everyday. Our new house stinks so bad to me (DP or the cleaner can't smell anything apparently) that I'm uncomfortable in my own home and constantly gagging unless I hide in my room with all the windows open.

Know that everyone is different and we will lose and gain our classic first trimester symptoms at different times.

I know it's nerve-wracking but if the scan will give you the reassurance you need then I think you can't put a price on that and go have it done. Let us know how it goes xx

swancourt · 29/05/2016 21:45

Thanks tiny - I've left a message now. Just going to get it done. It's £60 which is a lot but it's the start of the month so I'll just do cheap food shopping to compensate! And thanks for the reassurance - I'm really hoping that's the case. Sorry you have been sick! I'm not happy either way! A few days ago I was deep breathing through the nausea and thinking 'I can't hack this', ha ha.

lily - go and eat!

Bigfam · 29/05/2016 21:56

Bless you swan, it must be hard trying to deal with all the worrying, I hope you get a scan booked in to help reassure you.
Lily enjoy whatever you decide to munch on, I've been craving take away pizza for 4 days now & I keep seeing it on the TV, adverts, programs even bloody songs! I. Need. Pizza.

lilydaisyrose · 29/05/2016 22:05

2 big bowls of cornflakes didn't quite hit the spot but at least I'm not ravenous anymore! I could have another but milk stocks are low and need it for kids' cereal in the morning.

What a day - out 8am to 11am to work on my business, back home bath and breakfast. DH left for a gig then I spent all afternoon doing my son's mini beast project with him, took kids for a bike ride to help my son ride without his stabilisers, wrote thank you cards with kids, designed and printed my kids' birthday invitations (joint party next month), made kids' tea, sorted out some invoices for my business and I've still got to tidy up, do the dishes and sort out the washing! I don't have time to be pregnant! I'm glad I've been busy though - 12w scan tomorrow afternoon, very anxious.

I'm not properly caught up so please excuse the me me me post - love to you all & I'll catch up properly soon.

ElectraJane84 · 29/05/2016 22:49

Bless your heart swan hopefully you'll be fine, like tinybsaid symptoms can come and go but I totally understand your anxiety I'd want a scan to! Sending hugs

barkingtreefrog · 29/05/2016 22:50

swan there's no price on piece of mind. I've got my 12w scan on Weds but I've had 6 scans already, which sounds a little ridiculous but it has helped my anxiety, I'm constantly convinced it's stopped growing and there's going to be no heartbeat at the next scan. It's taken us over 4.5 years to get this far and I can't shake off the feeling it's too good to be true and it's all going to come crashing down again.
Considering buying a doppler if the 12w scan is okay, but trying to hold off for longer in case it's too early to easily hear the hb as that would just freak me out Confused.

ElectraJane84 · 29/05/2016 23:17

barking I've had 5 scans too due to history and bleeding! Didn't have one last week so it feels like an age waiting until weds. I can sympathise with you totally. Really scared but have all symptoms, however it doesn't mean it's a definite :/

puppythedog · 30/05/2016 07:05

Hi swan, Mrsthedog's symptoms dropped off for a bit before returning and now settling.
Worry is horrid, I hope you enjoy your scan. We had an eight week scan with DD1 because we were falling out about worries. We were able to hold less worry this time so waited for 12 scan.
To all is every one doing the combined test? We declined.

swancourt · 30/05/2016 07:26

Thank you puppythedog. I had a miscarriage in March and fell pregnant straight away after it. The thing that makes me worry is that with both my daughters I was sick as anything from around 6 weeks (8 weeks with my first but really retchy and nauseous before that). With the mc I never felt sick at all, and this time I have felt a bit nauseous on and off but nowhere near as bad as with my girls. Hopefully either my body is handling this pregnancy a bit better for some reason - work is the easiest it has been for me for a long time at the moment, and both my girls sleep reasonably well (when I was preg with DD2, we had just stopped DD1's 18-month hourly waking habit, and was in the most stressful work period ever, plus had a lengthy commute, so I was shattered - and I'm sure that made it worse). Or perhaps it's a boy Smile

OrianaBanana · 30/05/2016 08:06

I got pregnant the second cycle after my mc swan - it's a long old wait to 12 weeks.

Btw you can drink alcohol with the vast majority of antibiotics these days so you might need another excuse if someone like my friend is there who 'reassures' you on that score...

swancourt · 30/05/2016 08:11

Ha ha oriana, totally know about the antibiotics! Never works! I just avoid drinking occasions (much easier when you have a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old!) or just tell people I'm pregnant (telling less people this time than last).

It's always a Bank Holiday I have a medical emergency/medical panic! It must be psychological!

puppythedog · 30/05/2016 10:04

Kidney bother kidney infection good for not drinking because then it's not just about the anti-biotics but also about the actual bother you are fibbing about.

NurseRosie · 30/05/2016 10:17

Metronidazole is an antibiotic used for oral infection and you def can't drink on that. The dentist and pharmacist both tell you when you get a prescription. Do there you go, perfect excuse x

FluffyPickleMonster · 30/05/2016 10:21

Hey peeps, just catching up on the thread. Welcome to new joiners, I can't believe how many of us there are. Yay for a daddy joining us too! Will look forward to the bake perspective on things!

I'm 11+2 today and my symptoms are varying and fluctuating in severity on a daily basis. Nausea had mostly disappeared but came back yesterday, ok again today. I can't get enough sleep though, laid down for a 10 minute snooze yesterday and woke up 4hours later then still had an early night! Knackered again this morning.

Can I ask your thoughts/experiences of sleeping positions please. The reading I've done says sleeping on your back is not recommended after 16weeks. I fall asleep on my side and wake on my back and spend most of sleep on my back (with my arms above my head like toddler!). I'm worried that I won't be able to stay on my side, I get hip pain anyway (worse since pregnancy) sand am much more comfortable being straight on my back. How serious are the risks???? Is it like the eating deli ham risk or more serious than that?? Hard to know how to take some of the recommendations.

FluffyPickleMonster · 30/05/2016 10:29

Male perspective not bake!!

Watermelon2016 · 30/05/2016 10:58

Hi all. I'm bleeding. Spent most of yesterday at the hospital trying to get a referral to EPU for a scan. Finally got it but scan not until Thursday morning. So scared x

Eskerina81 · 30/05/2016 11:00

Hi fluffy, this is what the Expecting Better book has to say about back sleeping. Bottom line is it's probably OK but more research needed!

"The theory is that as the uterus gets larger (beyond 20 weeks or so), it can compress an important blood vessel. This decreases Mum’s blood pressure and can reduce blood flow to the placenta and the baby. That this occurs is something we know from physiology. What is the more relevant question for you is whether there is any evidence that this actually has risks for the baby. If you wake up on your back, should you worry? As it turns out, very likely not. There are various ways you can try to figure this out. Because there is a clear biological mechanism, the most obvious way is to try to see if that mechanism really works the way that is claimed. In one very nice study of this, researchers made women lie on their backs and measured the blood flow to the uterus. They found that lying down has no particularly bad impact on blood flow. A couple of women in that study became uncomfortable, but felt better when they changed positions. The authors concluded that some women might be uncomfortable sleeping on their backs, but if you are not one of them, you should feel fine about it. 13 This paper was included as part of a review article about the topic. Their conclusion, which I think is clear and succinct, is as follows: Advising women to sleep or lie exclusively on the left side is not practical and is irrelevant to the vast majority of patients. Instead, women should be told that a small minority of pregnant women feel faint when lying flat. Women can easily determine whether lying flat has this effect on them and most will adopt a comfortable position that is likely to be a left supine position or variant thereof . . . since finding a comfortable position in bed in late pregnancy is not easy, physicians should refrain from providing impractical advice. 14 The above review concluded that the no-back -sleeping recommendation doesn’t make sense. When I was making this decision with Penelope, that was where the bulk of the evidence lay. However, a recent study has questioned this and deserves some discussion. It shows a scary link between maternal sleep position and stillbirth. 15 The method in this study is straightforward. The researchers identified women who had a recent stillbirth and interviewed them about their behaviours while pregnant. They also spoke to some women who had healthy babies. The idea was to look for what behaviours differed between the two groups and then conclude that those behaviours might have contributed to the stillbirths. It turns out that sleeping on the back or the right side was associated with a higher rate of stillbirth. The effect is large: the stillbirth rate was about twice as high for women sleeping on their backs. This study wasn’t perfect. The sample size was small and the researchers were testing a lot of different theories, not just sleep position. Having said this, there isn’t anything obviously wrong with the paper that would lead one to fully discount the conclusions. We’re left in a frustrating but common position when it comes to academic debates: more research is needed . In the interim, it’s not clear what the right conclusion is. Sleeping on your left side is unlikely to be bad, so that’s a good option if youcan manage to get to sleep that way."

OrianaBanana · 30/05/2016 12:02

Watermelon I'm really sorry to hear that. Can they really scan no earlier? Fingers crossed for you that it's ok Flowers

SteffiMuse · 30/05/2016 12:13

So sorry watermelon. Maybe try a private scan?

SteffiMuse · 30/05/2016 12:14

I was bleeding watermelon and it was a haematomia in my uterus. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about now.
