After hours of monitoring and examinations, cervix still closed and babies head still not engaged. Finally had pessary at 3am. Had quite a few period type pains afterwards but nothing happening now Sad only managed 3 hours sleep and quite disturbed after hearing the lady next doors reaction to the prostaglandin gel Shock I'm scared to have it now!!

ODog · 15/05/2016 09:00

3am!!! What on earth?!? I don't understand why they would be messing about in the middle of the night in a non emergency scenario. Surely it would be better for you to be rested at home and start things off in the morning? Crazy! People complain about or local maternity services but I think they must be pretty good compared to elsewhere. I've had my induction date booked since 12 wk scan and barring any unforeseen circumstances will be seen that morning (tomorrow! Shock)

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 15/05/2016 09:40

Frozen am glad you are on your way but also a bit Shock about the 3am thing!
We had our 2nd bad night in a row after 2 good nights led me into a false sense of security! Had my entire family here yesterday so LO met her cousins which was lovely but exhausting, DP made an epic roast lunch and my nephew (nearly 2) showed us how very un-toddler proof our home is!! They were all here till 7 and my mum left with them after spending the first week with us, so it was our first evening/night alone since little bug was born - which was lovely, but then she refused to sleep anywhere other than on me until after 4am so I fell asleep sitting up feeding her, waking up just in time for her to want another feed and then go through the whole thing again! Ended up making a little space for her between us in bed and she slept from about 5 onwards and so did I, but I find it TERRIFYING having her in bed with us - but there seems no other option if we want any sleep at all!
Hope those of you still waiting had a good rest and those with babies already had a better night than us!

cant - have a look at some articles on safe co-sleeping. A bf newborn sharing a bed with parents is often very safe and natural. We never planned to but did it from day 1 with DS and it was the best thing ever as everyone got sleep. Also Google the 4th trimester and it will all make sense.

Pikz · 15/05/2016 11:42

Can't DS has slept with me the whole of the last week in hospital and at home. I bought a sleepyhead yesterday and he went in that last night and loved it. Slept really well between very frequent feeds.

We don't do bed sharing as a rule as DH is 6ft7 and therefore 3 or 4 if DS1 comes in does not fit and DH is scared of squashing one of them with the size of him.

GunShotResidue · 15/05/2016 12:38

frozen good luck, I hope everything is going well!

cant I wish I had co-slept with DD, she had colic and reflux and hardly slept for the first few months. I almost drove myself crazy with sleep deprivation!

Just popped into hospital for monitoring as he's been a bit quiet this weekend. All seems fine, just waiting for the Dr to see me. I thought DH was sympathy nesting this morning, turns out he's run out of both tobacco and his personal allowance (for the month!) and is buttering me up to borrow some of mine Hmm

GunShotResidue · 15/05/2016 12:39

Some of my money, I don't smoke! (Just realised that could be taken either way!)

frozensmoothie · 15/05/2016 15:42

Thanks everyone! Very annoyed about the 3am thing, even the midwives were Hmm about it but it's so busy here it's like a conveyor belt. It also means I will be woken up at 3am tonight for them to take the Propess out and start the next stage. Still nothing happening here, so bored already!

ODog · 15/05/2016 16:51

Glad all ok gunshot . There have been a few times in the last few weeks when I've been a bit worried about movements but just as I'm about to call she goes crazy. I think they start to settle into longer sleep patterns towards the end.

Have they kept you in the whole time frozen. Why not let you go home and see what happens? no wonder they are so busy....Confused

GunShotResidue · 15/05/2016 20:45

He's started being quieter at night and more lively during the day, I'm hoping this means he'll sleep!

I hope you get some rest before 3am frozen! And that things progress quickly.

TristanlovesIsolde · 15/05/2016 20:46

Evening all. Interesting to read about co - sleeping. We did it by accident with DS1 as he would just not be put down. We tried every trick in the book; warming up moses basket, putting in an item if clothing etc. Nothing worked. He slept on our chests fir the first 6 weeks. Not sure how we did it but it was the only way anyone got any sleep. DH back at work and get needed his sleep. At 6 weeks we decided to put him down on his tummy and that made a huge difference. It goes against current SID advice but we took necessary precautions and we're comfortable with our decision.

Let's see if DS2 is just as stubborn! 39+4 today and have been on the go all weekend. Feeling shattered now so it could be an early night. Looking forward to first real day of maternity leave tomorrow.

Icecappedpinetrees · 15/05/2016 20:49

Isn't it funny, they wriggle and writhe all night long but it's always about 4/5/6am that they fall asleep. (Crap if you have a toddler that likes to start their day at 4/5/6am!)

Icecappedpinetrees · 16/05/2016 06:15

Morning everyone - am I first up today?? Hope you all sleeping soundly Smile

. A bf newborn sharing a bed with parents is often very safe and natural.. Completely! How could it not be? DS is sleeping with me cos he just won't settle away from me. Me resting is so important. 13/14 hour days with a toddler mean I can't be exhausted if I can find ways around it. And my goodness, it just feels right to keep him that close,me specially at night, he's tiny!

Good news ...3lbs up on weight at day 5

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 16/05/2016 08:29

Thank you SO MUCH Odog for the article and Pikz for the back-up, I didn't try putting LO in the crib last night, just had her in bed with me following the guidelines from the article and we had a bloody miraculous night! She woke only to feed and we all slept beautifully! We were thinking of buying a sleepyhead too but am balking a bit at the cost, I used a bath towel to make a next round her last night which seemed to work :)
DP's birthday today, he is 41! On his 40th (well, the night before) we had just had our first positive pregnancy test which turned out to be a chemical pregnancy lost a few days later, so it's funny having a newborn now and thinking back to last year! We are celebrating by giving the baby his name, registration today Smile
Ice 3lb or 3oz?!

OP posts:
ODog · 16/05/2016 08:41

3lbs??? I'm guessing you mean 3oz or that is some serious gold top
Milk! Isn't it the best feeling when they put on weight at 5 days? Makes all that feeding worthwhile.

Just on the monitor at the hospital waiting for them to start induction.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 16/05/2016 09:11

Ooooh good luck Odog, hope everything goes speedily and painlessly (we can but hope!!)
Little bug lost 260g (7.8%) and had only gained 40g 3 days later, so we will have a way to go to get her back to birth weight. Am not sure if the nipple shields affect how much milk she is getting, I do need to try and feed her without them but it seems to work on one side only (and only when laying down) but at least I can do that so did overnight. She is sitting hiccuping on my lap as we speak Smile

frozensmoothie · 16/05/2016 09:30

Good luck for today Odog hope you have better luck with induction than me!

Glad that you all had a good nights sleep can't we have a sleepyhead which we'll use for co-sleeping if necessary but it will mean kicking DH out of bed as we've only got a double which is up against a wall and he is 6' 3 so not sure there will safely be room for 3 of us!

The pessary didn't work for me so had the prostaglandin gel at 3:30am. I seem to have finally started having some regular contractions but waiting to be examined and monitored to see if it really is the start of something. Even then I'm not too hopeful of anything happening today as there are 3 other women in the induction suite who have been waiting days to go to Delivery Unit and have their waters broken and all are still here. Luckily it doesn't seem as busy today, maybe now it's not the weekend they have more staff on duty. I have a male midwife too!

ParsnipSoup · 16/05/2016 10:08

It's exciting that two of you are being induced at the same time, it feels like I'm rapidly going to be the only one left with a baby who hasn't come out! Good luck ODog and Frozen.

Cant any weight loss less than 10% at 5 days is completely normal and 40g gain in 3 days is good going for this stage so I wouldn't stress out too much about her getting "enough" milk as it sounds like she is.

ODog · 16/05/2016 10:12

Echo pasnip about weight loss and getting enough milk. It's massively unusual for babies to not lose and even more unusual for them to gain.

Pessary just gone in. Cervix was a tiny finger open on the outside but not on the inside whatever that means...?!?

chillipopcorn1 · 16/05/2016 10:29

Booked in for my ELCS on Friday 8am! ConfusedGrin

GunShotResidue · 16/05/2016 12:58

Good luck ODog

Not too long to wait chilli!

This morning I've flooded the bathroom and realised the 3 packs if pull ups I bought DD are actually nappies. Today has not been a productive day!

GunShotResidue · 16/05/2016 13:00

cant DD was EBF, born on the 50th percentile, lost loads of weight and took a while to put it back on, then shot up to the 91st percentile!

Icecappedpinetrees · 16/05/2016 13:21

Sorry if it seemed like I was bragging, I really wasn't, he was underweight at birth and kept in so I was just so pleased that he was heading in the right direction. Tbh I was a bit worried and felt guilty that he was wee at birth so I've been feeding constantly to make up for it. I had set in my head that a 2oz lose would be good so was aiming for that.

3lbs?? Monster baby!! He'll be off to uni next week! 3oz Smile

Good luck ODog and Frozen, hopefully you'll have your babies in no time at all!! Looking forward to your news.

Icecappedpinetrees · 16/05/2016 14:18

I'm having a similar day gunshot

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 16/05/2016 14:48

Ice I didn't take it as bragging at all, don't worry about that!
Wow we have had a big adventure today, took LO to register her and then ended up walking in to the nice area near us for to have lunch, and then went for gelato too and I breastfed her in the ice-cream place which feels like a big hurdle to have crossed! it was by far the most walking I have done but SO much fun walking around with her showing her off to everyone. We ended up getting the bus home as it was a bit much otherwise but that was a lovely outing for DP's birthday! DP is having his best birthday ever Wink
