I have DS jabs on Thursday!

Yes it can make them grumpy. I found it was the evening after their jabs, he was crankier than usual.

Some babies don't seem to show any signs that they've even noticed, others howl and seem quite feverish.

It's not nice having to hold them but it's for the best. Chin up and be brave! Sorry, probably shouldn't be saying that! It's their wee face as really they've never in their lives experienced pain (unless you've bumped them or dropped them!)

ODog · 06/07/2016 18:29

DS has been horrific with all his jabs both during and the day after. He has his final menB jab soon and I'm dreading it even worse as I get stung for £129 for the pleasure every time .

DD got poked and prodded with needles all over the place when she was poorly at a week old and took it like a trooper she's a girl and we birth babies so we much be pretty hard . DS is clearly following the opposite gender stereotype and I fully anticipate full on man flu in years to come.

DD's are on Monday and I need to take DS with me. I'm certain I'll have more tears from him than her. He cried at her 6 wk check because he thought the dr might hurt her. Such a sensitive soul.

Icecappedpinetrees · 06/07/2016 19:54

Oh bless, they're so protective Smile

My other half took the day off but in reality he probably won't come and will watch toddlerice while I brave it out with babyice. boobs at the ready!!

29redshoes · 06/07/2016 20:06

ODog that is the cutest thing!!! Bless him.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 06/07/2016 20:19

So cute Odog!
DD had her jabs today and took it so much better than I thought, she was fast asleep so rather than having the oral one first she had the first needle in, and of course she cried a bit but not as badly as I thought she would. Chugged the rota one and calpol down like a trooper probably because she was hungry and was very cheery afterwards - though as the calpol wore off this evening she has been very grizzly, but that could just be the normal evening thing (and because I was cooking, DP is away, so she didn't get fed instantly...mumma's got to eat!). Anyway DP is due back this evening so I'd better finish up the cheesecake I bought yesterday if she is unsettled tonight at least I'm not on my own.
Hope those who have the jabs coming up this week get in ok with them!

Glad the jabs went well cant hope yours go well too 29. My DD will be 8 weeks next week so I better get around to booking them.

We've had a pretty awful day with DD getting distressed at every feed and not feeding much again. She's also been super sleepy all day and when awake has mostly been crying. I've been in touch with the lactation consultant who did her tongue tie division and she said it sounded like it could be silent reflux or cows milk intolerance. She's going to come and see us next week to check her tongue is OK and help us with positioning again. We've got a GP appointment in the morning with a different doctor. I hope we don't get fobbed off again like we did last week. It's heartbreaking seeing her hungry but getting too distressed to eat properly Sad

Icecappedpinetrees · 07/07/2016 01:46

Aw Frozen, that's such a shame, you're both having a rough time. Be strong at the GP, I hope they listen to you. Flowers

29redshoes · 07/07/2016 11:23

Sorry to hear that frozen, hope your appointment went well and that this GP was more helpful.

DD has silent reflux (although less of the silent recently, more just straight reflux!) If it does turn out to be that feel free to message me - I'm by no means an expert but happy to share my own experience so far including of different meds, if that's helpful.

Icecappedpinetrees · 07/07/2016 17:28

DS had his first set of jabs Sad let's hope he stays settled as the evening progresses.

29redshoes · 07/07/2016 20:27

We survived the jabs! DD was very brave but has been grizzly all evening.

I tried some of DD's calpol for old time's sake (used to love it when I was little!) It didn't taste as good as I remember Sad Maybe it had lots of sugar back in the day, none of this no added sugar nonsense??

frozensmoothie · 07/07/2016 22:03

Hope your babies settle after their jabs!

We had an ok appointment at the GP. As it's not clear what is going on it's going to be a process of elimination. As DD had a bit of a white tongue (which I think was just milk!) she wants to rule out thrush so we've got Nyastin. If it doesn't have any affect in the next few days we'll go back to see if it's silent reflux or cows milk allergy.

Interestingly today she had mostly be fine! Lots of long feeds with minimal fussing and crying, bright, happy and alert for most of the day, it's like a whole new baby! Not expecting it to last though.

Thanks 29 will definitely PM you if it is silent reflux.

Icecappedpinetrees · 08/07/2016 02:09

We survived too, a few screams but quite right, brave wee thing. And the face he pulled for the rotavirus was a classic - wtf are you putting in my mouth?! That's not milk!!

He's just had his third dose of paracetamol to keep fever down. He's quite warm (he wasn't at bedtime) so he's out his grobag and just in his jam jams. Skipped his first feed at 10/11pm and straight to second feed now.

29redshoes · 10/07/2016 23:08

Great that you had a happy baby frozen, hope it has continued! Isn't there a theory that babies can sense when they're getting to be a bit too much of a handful and pick that time to be cute Smile? Something to do with making sure the parents don't get completely fed up and abandon their offspring not that we would abandon our DC of course but you get what I mean

ice strangely enough DD seemed to rather enjoy the rotavirus medicine?? She's a very enthusiastic feeder!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend! We had a visit from the PILs and DD was on her best behaviour and very smiley so they now think we have some sort of angel baby...if only!!

Icecappedpinetrees · 11/07/2016 22:05

Oh yes 29 - they know how to turn it on! Cute little things.

DS was really sleepy after his jabs for over 24 hours. He really only woke for feeds then a couple smiles, a stretch then he just wanted to sleep again, I felt like I'd barely seen him for a full day.

He's rolling! I love seeing him kicking his little legs and then lifting them up and fluuuump over to the side, so cute! I think he started doing it in an attempt to make it from the next to you cot to...well...actually next to me! Give it another two months and I think he will be rolling like a sausage into the big bed.

My goodness, he's just so squidgy and adorable. Can I keep him like this forever?

29redshoes · 12/07/2016 18:57

I have to admit I was just a teeny bit disappointed that DD wasn't sleepy after her jabs! The girl is not that big on sleep it seems.

Sounds cute as a button ice! It is a shame that it all goes so fast. Of course once this baby phase is over you could always just...have another baby? Wink

frozensmoothie · 12/07/2016 19:45

Took DD to be weighed today. Her weight gain has slowed which didn't surprise me due to the 5 minute feeds and fussing. She'd only put on 190g/7 Oz in 11 days. I'm now trying to feed her like mad every hour and health visitor said we should persevere with trying to give her a bottle of expressed milk even though she refuses the bottle and I'm having trouble getting much when I express now. Highlights of the clinic include DD weeing on the scales, spraying the health visitor with my milk when DD unlatched during letdown and bumping into our old nightmare next door neighbour who now has a 7 month old.

We've got our jabs on Monday eek, I hope they make DD tired!

Icecappedpinetrees · 12/07/2016 20:07

Shock What a thing to suggest!! Grin we'd need to buy a bus! And a full time nanny! Two is plenty......

....but newborns are so lush....

No, just no.

Icecappedpinetrees · 12/07/2016 20:09

Loving the milk spray! My leftie has twin jets so I could momentarily blind any adversary, Mother Nature at her best Wink

29redshoes · 12/07/2016 20:45

Ah frozen my DD wees on the scale almost every time!

I'm no expert, but that weight gain doesn't sound too bad considering you've had a tough week. Has your DD dropped down the centiles a lot? If not this may just be a blip?

After much soul searching, we've started the transition to formula over here. Going to mix feed for a bit so that DD can get used to it. It's been harder than I expected so far though! There's no easy way to feed these babies!

Every time DD has a smiley happy day DH and I start dreaming about the next baby. When she has a nightmare day I really struggle to imagine having more than one!!

Icecappedpinetrees · 12/07/2016 23:15

That's good 29

DS was one year old before we ever uttered any thought about another one.

Frozen, you've done brilliantly!! If breastfeeding is still so difficult, I'd switch to formula without a worry. After all, it's after 6/8 weeks that feeding is meant to be getting easier and more convenient, now is the time to be reaping the rewards but if it's still incredibly taxing then I'd seriously consider your options. And fwiw I admire anyone who perseveres/succeeds with expressing. I tried with DS1 and only ever managed an ounce from each side. It was a massive drain on my time and it really stressed me out. Then the wee chimp wouldn't drink from a bottle anyway! I haven't even tried this time and I'm a lot happier for it.

It's easy for the HV to spout "what's best" but what do you feel would suit you best? Do you think your DD would switch to a bottle? If you stopped BF? When she fusses do you think she's still hungry?

29redshoes · 14/07/2016 18:20

Hope you're doing ok frozen!

So....when do naps get easier?? DD is a real terror when she's overtired, but she's a different woman when she has enough sleep. Very smiley and lovely. But my goodness, it is SO hard to get her to go to sleep and stay asleep, especially during the day. Sometimes it takes an hour to get her to sleep, and then I have to stay sat next to her with my arm on her chest or she wakes up again!

Is this one of those things which gets a bit easier at the 3/4 month point, or is this just her personality? I'd like to go with the flow a bit more but I've turned into the crazy nap lady.

Icecappedpinetrees · 14/07/2016 19:49

Yeah I was crazy nap lady for a long time. Still am (that's because having a toddler means that you neeeeeeed a break after lunch or you might actually lose your marbles!)

No, it doesn't get easier at 4 months. 4 months is the first big sleep regression so prepare for your nights to go south too! Sorry to be the harbinger of doom....

Naps got easier for me after one year when he dropped from 2 naps to 1. It's only then that he slept for longer than half an hour.

Baby ice is just grabbing sleep as and when he can. Bouncy chair, car, sling. Wherever and whenever. If I notice that he's been awake for over two hours and he's cranky, I'll plan my next car outing with the toddler or plop him in the sling. I've only rocked him to sleep twice, bless him, I rocked my first to sleep every single day for months.

ODog · 14/07/2016 21:45

Haven't checked in for a while so will reply properly when I get a sec.

Just saw the above about naps though. DD is a sucker for a sling. 2mins in it and she's asleep and stays asleep as long as I'm moving (which is all the time with a toddler). She sleeps, i have two hands. She has never napped in her Moses basket, I've tried a couple of times and she just wakes up so not worth it yet. Sling, car or sometimes a successful sling to vibrating chair transfer. Don't stress - get a sling.

29redshoes · 15/07/2016 11:15

Ah you're both so laid back about it! I've become the PFB stereotype I think, very often sometimes to get her to nap in the day I swaddle, dummy, dark room, shhh and wait with her the whole time in case wakes and I need to settle her again Hmm

So I do need a more low maintenance method!! She did love the sling but I've stopped using it in the warmer weather as we both got too hot (stretchy newborn wrap type sling). Is it ring slings which are like a cooler version?

ice Oh yes I had heard of four month sleep regression. Oh well, best to be prepared I guess!

ODog · 15/07/2016 20:08

I only used the stretchy a few times as it was sweltering and DD was pushing off my chest and handing out a bit. Ring sling only passes over baby once so 3 less layers. I also have a bamboo RS which is meant to be a cooler fabric. It take a bit of practise to get right. I was used to using one with a toddler in a hip carry but getting a newborn in is a bit more fiddly. However, it was so worth it as I use it every day, several times a day. To be honest they are almost big enough to go in a buckle carrier like a manduca or connecta, which will be cooler than a stretchy. I have just swapped my manduca for a connecta. Tried DD in it the other day. She fits in it fine but still prefer her wrapped in a RS while she is little as it feels more secure.
