Hi tristan, welcome!

Am so chuffed with myself, have cooked my first meal this evening with our little bug in a sling. DP and my mum have lost the plot been pulling up all our moth-eaten carpets upstairs so I knew if I didn't cook we'd end up eating at midnight! DP has actually been amazing the past week cooking gourmet meals for lunch and dinner for me and my mum; mum feels guilty because she can't chip in to help (because we "eat differently" to them!), DP gets a bit frustrated, and I'd be happy with a sandwich half the time, but he HAS been taking great care of me and only getting a grump on ocassionally. I am just gonna have to brazen it out with MIL and tell her in no uncertain terms that she is wrong, in some ways that is easy to do with the language barrier, though I know she will continue to say it to DP on the phone...

So I'll be going in for induction tomorrow. Didn't go ahead with the third sweep today as baby's head is still not engaged (despite being told by the midwife who did it yesterday that it was 3/5ths engaged Hmm) As well as telling me the head was engaged when it wasn't, she also didn't book today's appointment in properly leaving me to wait for 45 mins and them having to squeeze me in when there wasn't a slot!

They want to induce me ASAP due the risk of cord prolapse if my waters break with the head not engaged. They wanted to admit me while I was there but managed to come home as I wasn't prepared and had nothing with me! Just got to hope waters don't break tonight or else I'll have to rush in as an emergency.

ParsnipSoup · 13/05/2016 22:40

Cant I have a French parent who has some weird beliefs on babies too. There is much eyebrow raising at the fact I've said that baby will be in our room for the first 6 months. I wonder what the advice given out in France at the moment is? I just put it down to them not having had a baby for 30 years.

Frozen good luck for induction tomorrow. Apparently less than 10% of people start labour with their waters breaking so crossing my fingers that yours will stay in one piece. Do you live far from the hospital to have to travel in if it does happen?

daisywhoopsie · 14/05/2016 02:47

He's here and he's amazing.

Will update and catch up on all your news properly in the morning!

Pikz · 14/05/2016 06:02

Congratulations Daisy

Good luck today frozen

Can't we moved DS at 6 weeks as the Moses was getting small and he was sooooo noisy. But 6 days!!!! OMG!

ODog · 14/05/2016 06:07

Welcome tristan.

Hope induction goes well frozen. My waters broke with DS at 41+1/2 and his head wasn't engaged and it wasn't a dire emergency or anything. Same with a friend of mine. I know the cord prolapse thing was mentioned but more as something to watch out for than you need to be in hospital immediately.

Thought things we're starting last night. Woke up every hour with pressure and niggles and nausea but it doesn't seem to have come to much. 41+1 today. We worked out last night that my waters broke with DS on the night/morning of 41+1/2 so I'm hoping something similar will happen tonight.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 14/05/2016 06:41

Parsnip current French advice seems to include babies sleeping on their side and obsession about them not getting a flat head from laying on their back too much - glad it's not just me has this to contend with! The response here is "niece (5) and nephew (3) did this and they are fine...." Confused
We had a terrible night over here, little bug decided 2 nights great sleep was enough! She fed all evening yesterday, slept in the sling while I smugly made dinner, then refused to settle or sleep at all until 2am when I passed her to daddy to sleep on his chest.
From the Facebook page seems like today might be a big arrival day for the May babies, willing everyone on from here! Can't believe my bug is a week old today!!!

Very best of luck Frozen....looking forward to your new soon.

So nearly there ODog, watch those niggles, I niggled all day but it was actually labour creeping on.

Hi Tristan. Love the username!

Daisy - hurrah, another gorgeous little boy.

My wee boy is snuggled up on me as I type. Ds1 downstairs - I hope asking my DH for pancakes for breakfast Wink - and mum visiting today. Looking forward to another day with my boys. Milk came in yesterday Smile all that gumming away every minute of the day and night seems to have worked. I forgot to sleep in a bra and right enough, I made a massive puddle of milk. Time to strip the bed, hurrah, more laundry!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Icecappedpinetrees · 14/05/2016 06:46

Cant - my toot slept yesterday on his back but kinda twisted to his side so he is following English-French protocol. Very continental he he he! I guess if you feed lying down they end up sideways? A week old, goes so quickly right?!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 14/05/2016 07:11

Ice she does actually sleep twisted into her side even when I put her down flat so that must be her genes, haha! I only just corroded on to needing to sleep in a bra too Hmm
Have woken up this morning with excruciating pain in my hip that I had during labour despite the epidural, haven't felt it since last week and now BAM! Weird!

OP posts:
ODog · 14/05/2016 08:57

Yep DS always slept on his side as I fed him laying down at night. He has never ever slept on his back! Perhaps he should be French...except he hates cheese so I don't think he'd fit in too well!

Icecappedpinetrees · 14/05/2016 11:03

Hurrah for sleeping in a bra for the next ..... months, joys!

Ds1 rolled onto his tummy to sleep as soon as he was able. I spend weeks turning him back every time I checked him then I realised FGS LEAVE HIM! I overly worried about everything with him. Now I'm trying to follow the rules but be far more chilled this time. And the difference is that I'm actually really enjoying it!

YY to pains coming and going. Early days still.

ParsnipSoup · 14/05/2016 12:27

That's interesting about the French sleeping advice. My health visitor came over for an antenatal visit and she spoke a lot about "flat heads" and told me to download "born to move" an NHS app which has lots about encouraging development and tummy time when they're awake. I'm pretty sure that once babies can roll over sleeping on their back isn't a problem though, as they can just roll around whereever they want and won't get stuck on their fronts if they can't breathe.

Congratulations Daisy looking forward to hearing more about your little one arriving.

I get fuzzy butterflies in my tummy every time you new Mummies talk about your babies. Only 38+4 but really really can't wait until this little chap arrives. I guess that's also helped by the 6 hours sleep I got (in various broken parts) overnight. I feel like a new person.

ODog · 14/05/2016 12:37

parsnip - I really wouldn't panic about flat head etc. despite what HVs might spout lots of babies don't like traditional tummy time (my DS aside - he just wanted to be on his front when not on a boob). There are lots of ways to 'do tummy time' without plonking them on their tummies. For example, sleeping on your chest, wearing them in a sling etc. basically anything where they aren't always laying flat on their back. Having said all this in my nct group the 'good' sleepers all had a degree of flat head and it soon popped out once they learned to sit up. I think in all but very severe cases it's just another thing for mums to worry and feel guilty about.

frozensmoothie · 14/05/2016 12:40

Thanks everyone! Luckily I only live a 15-20 min drive from the hospital if my waters were to go although we don't have a car so were relying on the in-laws who live half an hour away to drive us.

That's good to know that it wasn't an emergency with the head not being engaged for you ODog. None of the other midwives seemed too concerned about the head not being engaged so I don't know why the one yesterday saw it as such a big deal and put the fear of God in me!

I rang the antenatal ward this morning but they are too busy so I have to call back at 1pm. It's not looking too hopeful that they'll be starting my induction today though.Thankfully baby is still moving fine but a bit frustrated as I'll be 42 weeks tomorrow and had the worst nights sleep last night stressing about an induction that now might not even go ahead!

Congratulations Daisy!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 14/05/2016 12:42

We have the snuzpod which isn't very wide and little bug seems to like to roll almost onto her side in it straight away not that she bloody slept at all last night let alone in the crib. I can hardly believe she is a week old today, it's blowing my mind a bit! Am trying to be relaxed about everything but it isn't easy, especially as DP occasionally flies into a panic too about something - he is getting a bit stressed at time about mess and untidiness too which is making me a bit Confused about the weeks and months to come where I will likely spend the day stuck under a baby while he is as work. Still, she has slept quite a bit in the afternoons so if that remains to case I should be able to rest AND do some stuff in the flat every day, but I know it's early days to be worrying about this stuff - and as soon as he sees her he just melts anyway so I just have to use that to my advantage Wink

ParsnipSoup · 14/05/2016 20:07

ODog without realising it you've echoed almost exactly what the "born to move" stuff says, that every baby likes different things so it gives lots of tips for alternative tummy-time like lying baby on your chest for a cuddle and a chat and popping them into a sling so they get a different perspective than just looking at the ceiling. Did you secretly write the app!? To be honest working on a NICU pretty much all of our long stay babies get a flat head of some description which they'll just grow out of. Babies skulls are soft for a reason, but I like the emphasis on giving babies something different to look at or be involved with.

Frozen it must be so frustrating waiting around at this point. Crossing my fingers they found space for you this afternoon.

GunShotResidue · 14/05/2016 20:32

Watching Eurovision whilst bouncing on the birthing ball. I've been re-sorting the baby clothes today and they are just so cute! So I'm back to being very impatient!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

ODog · 14/05/2016 21:13

That's why mums are experts parsnip haha! Wink

Glad it says that though, too many HVs bang on about putting your baby on their tummy in front of a mirror and most hate it until they are much older.

My mum and dad are convinced something is going to happen tonight as my face looks puffy...errr thanks and I don't think that's a sign of labour.

Planning to take DS on the minature rail way tomorrow in a hope it will jiggle the baby out before eviction on Monday!

Any news from frozen? Did you manage to get a slot today?

Everythinggettingbigger · 14/05/2016 22:42

Wow lots of news to catch up on! Congratulations Daisy!

I've felt awful for a good few hours now, really bad back ache lots of cramps and pains, just managed 20 mins or so sleep and now wide awake again....had some "stronger" pains but nothing regular......I don't think i can cope with this going on every night for much longer then waking up in the morning fine it's driving me insane! 38+4 today....sweep on Monday let's hope they are able to do it this time and it gets things moving!

frozensmoothie · 14/05/2016 22:56

I'm in the induction suite at last! Been here for 2.5 hours but not been examined yet so may be in for a long night. Just waiting for a monitor to become free so they can monitor baby before starting anything. DH has gone home to get some sleep, going to try and get myself comfortable for the night and hope more happens tomorrow!

Pikz · 15/05/2016 05:21

Checking in on overnight babies :)

Frozen how you doing?

ODog · 15/05/2016 06:27

How are you doing frozen? They do pessary gel inductions in the morning in my area and send you home to see if things get moving so hope you aren't stuck there for ages waiting.

Had a few pains last night which amounted to nothing. Think I was just achy from chasing DS around the park in the afternoon. By this point with DS i had lost my plug and my waters had gone so feeling like induction tomorrow is inevitable.

I think I'll see what their judgement of my cervix is and if it's looking good then just have a sweep and put off induction for another day or two.

41+2 today

Notrobusta · 15/05/2016 07:29

39 weeks tomorrow and getting fed up of waiting now. Thought I may have been induced tomorrow as they were worried about an unstable lie but scan on Friday showed baby was head down. Both my previous DC were four days late so guess I have a while to wait yet. Just so uncomfortable and fed up with everyone asking when the baby will be arriving. Does anyone have the link to the Facebook page.

Everythinggettingbigger · 15/05/2016 07:54

Well that was the most frustrating night so far.....barely any sleep....DS was an absolute nightmare I'm surprised I haven't got a black eye the way he's wriggled and flung his arms about all night!! Was so achey and crampy yesterday for hours then 10.16pm had what I thought was a contraction, then every hour at 16 mins past until 4.16am, next one came at 5am......progress they were going to start getting closer together......nope they stopped after that. I want to bloody scream!
