Possibly.

They might do I am gonna check in my lunch break tomorrow, I started a thread just after I got off the phone from the hosi as I had a big panic moment, someone else suggested that. I had always thought it was for people who were under 25 but this other lady had used them and she was 37 so will give it a whirl!

Thanks!!

foxabout2pop · 15/01/2007 17:08

Hi everyone - interesting reading about the hairy pits and puking

I had that green mucus from nose thing for about 3 weeks, its shite isn't it? Sorry for everyone whose got the bug or whose DC's have caught it

Jay your wardrobes sound nice - I like 1920's and Edwardian furniture (3 out of the four homes we've had were built in 1925 so I think I have a circa 1925 fetish) - love Arts and Crafts furniture and houses

That buggy looks nice - very smart. I have one of the original Mountain Terrain 3 wheeler things from 7 years ago and its great to use - just glides along. Our double buggy on the other hand is very heavy and hard to push but I should only need it for 6 months so am too mean to buy an attractive and streamlined new one.

Got our mortgage sorted out - hurrah!!! Broker sent us 2 bottles of wine and is giving us their fee (£1,024) to compensate for all the hassle.

We interviewed for my maternity relacement this morning. One of the candidates was waffling so much, in a kind of high pitch breathy voice, that I had to look down to stop myself from laughing. When I looked down, I saw my belly was sort of dancing (LO had just woken within it) and started sniggering

I'm really starting to feel we are all on the last lap now - anyone else feeling that?

3rdTriMossTer · 15/01/2007 17:23

Foxy that's brilliant news about the mortgage! And how great to be given over a grand in cash, that must be a real bonus!

And as for you laughing at your potential replacement how very unprofessional!

My favourite covering letter today contained this:

I think I would be a great manager. I gained excellent experience of management first hand when I done my work experience at a nursing home. My auntie was the manager and I watched her manage.

I wouldn't mind so much, but I hadn't even been looking for candidates for a managerial position!

foxabout2pop · 15/01/2007 17:48

Mossy - that letter is so sweet. How old was the candidate - 5?

3rdTriMossTer · 15/01/2007 17:58

I think in a five year old it would show excellent use of initiative... but I reckon this girl must've been at least eighteen!

TheBlonde · 15/01/2007 18:11

Moss - on the antenatal classes I didn't learn anything new from mine (apart from about boy's willies and nappies) but I did meet some nice folk who I still see now. If you read a suitable book it should cover most of it

Diva - I'm just in denial about the whole thing right now and wondering why I though having a baby would be a good idea!
If the hypnobirthing works then I won't feel any pain, just "surges"

sexkittyinwaiting · 15/01/2007 18:47

yeah right that's all I have to say about hypnobirthing

Booboobedoo · 15/01/2007 19:34

Hello fellow-waddlers.

Promise I've read all your messages, but am too knackered to reply properly. Can't wait to finish teaching.

Kitty: have you tried hynobirthing? Must admit, I've been reading about it somewhat sceptically. Having read so many birth stories on MN, so much of it seems to be down to luck. I teach diaphragm breathing anyway, so not too worried about that. More worried about what Spongecake said: mad, controlling midwives. If I have one who tells me tp be quiet or says things like 'it's supposed to hurt: that's why it's called labour' DH is under strict instructions to get rid of her pronto.

I've decided I'd rather tear than have an episiotomy, having talked to lots of women who've done both. (Obviously I'll let them cut me if LO's in distress).

Only 7 weeks to go. Bloody hell. Mind you, I'm convinced I'm going to go 2 weeks over (my Mum did both times), so I'm thinking of it as more like 9 weeks. I'm really bi-polar about it at the moment. On the one hand, I can't wait to meet him. On the other, I'm worried in case I have a really grumpy, colicky one who cries all the time he's awake, and I end up as one of those Zombie women who forget to get dressed before they go out, and have to have ADs to stop them going over the edge.

Neurotic? Moi?

Wow, you lot can talk alot in a short space of time!!!!! Had a great time in London today. V.tiring though and my poor feet having to support my pregnant bulk, they are. I had to keep sitting down and massagng them. We walked around for 6 hours and at point we had to run for the train. Thought I might give birth in Victoria station . I love the Nat hist museum, such a beautiful place and SO empty today.

Foxy, I thought of you as we were on the tube to South Ken as the train was going to Richmond.
I'm glad I don't live in London anymore though, too hectic, too in your face. I like the semi rural life now that I'm an old bint

Re ante natal classes. I never found I was informed atall and I went to nct and nhs ones. When I came to have ds1 I was so rubbish, didn't have a clue. What they WERE good for was meeting other first time mums. A group of us would meet up every week for ages and I still see a couple of them even now.

sexkittyinwaiting · 15/01/2007 19:41

Boo, I kind of tried it in that I read the book and did the cd. However, when it came to it it all happened so fast and there were somany people in the room at home that I couldn't get in a relaxed frame of mind atall and completely forgot to do the relaxation. I do remember thinking/ saying I thought the whole idea that you could have a natural pain free labour was utterly ridiculous. Breathing in controlled way helps big, big time, but no pain.......?

divastrop · 15/01/2007 20:12

booboo-diaphragm breathing helps loads as long as you remember to do it,which is easier said than done ime.i think i finally got the hang of controlled breathing with no.4 it was like 'ahhh, this is why they tell you to breathe in a certain way,it hurts so much less when you're not panicking'.

moss-my local sure start runs young parent classes(which round here is 11-15 year olds)but they also do normal people parentcraft classes.

i remember being told at ante natal classes that pethidine would 'make you feel relaxed and take the edge off the pain'...translated,that means 'make you feel like you've drunk 5 bottles of vodka and cant be bothered moving so the pain is even worse'.

i did meet some nice people at the classes though but i lost touch with them when i moved away from the area.

Rosylily · 15/01/2007 20:52

Jay the buggy looks great, hope you 'source' one!
Bethoo, you made me realise that I must ask about getting tested for strep b just in case.
With my last pregnancy I was on a scheme where I had the same mw who visited me at home, she was so lovely, this time I've moved and I go to the health centre, different mw's everytime, who seem totally uninterested I got spoiled last time!

I am in denial too but not about the labour, its anything after that... I realised that I don't think of life beyond my due date, can't imagine myself unpregnant with a tiny baby. I wonder how Callie is getting on??

Anyone dreading labour- read the funny thread about funny things that happen to people in labour, it's a tonic!

My little beasties are calpolled up to their necks and sleeping. They both threw up too, its a messy business.

sexkittyinwaiting · 15/01/2007 21:00

Rosy, sorry you're all ill, it's miserable isn't it?
I'm rather dreading labour myself. I'm trying to get into a more positive frame of mind about it. I'm hoping that not having so many people around this time will help. It was lovely having the film done and also very comforting in a way to be surrounded by so many women whilst pushing dd3 out, but this time hopefully it will be less busy . Anyway I'm not panicking too much yet as I've got ages to go

eidsvold · 15/01/2007 22:00

that buggy looks good jaysecond - although in the tests they run here the Valco has not done so well and have read lots of mums say they hated having one - sorry but thought you might like to know. They found them heavy and unwieldy.

Do you need a double?? COuld you not get away with a buggy and toddler seat??

i bought the top one - childcare stroller and toddler seat Had something similar for when dd2 was born - fabulous.

eidsvold · 15/01/2007 22:16

meant to add - using cloth - mixture of fitted nappies I sewed myself and terry squares. Fleece liners and reusuable wipes made from leftover nappy fabric cut into squares and flannels.

DollyPopsOut · 16/01/2007 06:10

Morning all

Been up since my 5 am wee. My dad had a couple of MRI scans yesterday after his stroke and the results aren't great so i can't sleep. Thought I may as well come down and do something useful rather than lie there worrying. Ihave unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, cleaned the top of the oven and tidied the sitting room (all of these very quickly and not very well!) so I thought I would have a quick play on the internet and see how you all are doing.

Bethoo - I have GBS as well. So long as they know about it, you will be fine. You need to get to hosp at least 4 hours before you deliver so that you can get at least 1 load of IV antibiotics in, which cross the placenta and the baby should be OK. I have 2 friends with their second babies who didn't get there with 4 hours to spare as the babies came too quickly, and they just had to stay in for 48 hours after birth to be monitored. I can't remember if it is your first, but if so, you are likely to be at least 4 hours before delivery so it's sorted. I also had lots of gest diabetes scares in my last pg. I think that that can be managed as well and usually goes away once the baby is born. Why don't you start a thread in pg if you need more info?

Foxy - brill news on the mortgage, you must be so relieved.

Booboo - your baby will be wonderful and you will cope with whatever he gives you. Don't worry about colic etc. Many babies don't get it at all - DD1 didn't, but she did feed almost constantly for the first 3 months . I didn't do hypno birthing but we have friends who did and she swore by it. If you are 2 weeks over and I am a week early, we'll be in Kings at the same time !

Moss - I found the NHS classes a bit useless TBH, so I don't think you have missed much. As Diva says, it is useful to meet other new mums in your area, but there are usually lots of groups etc where you can meet people once LO has arrived if you don't get on an antenatal class.

Am having a lazy day today. Am meeting a mum for coffee who I got chatting to as she was pushing her baby on the swing next to DD. She seems very jolly and only lives round the corner so it'll be good to have another local mate to play with. Other than that, not much happening here. Expect I'll need a sleep this afternoon as it's been an early start.

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 06:35

Dolly sorry to hear about your Dad's results, what does it mean for him? My mil is a volunteer with people who have had strokes, she has seen people make amazing recoveries that Doctors thought were impossible, just through having lots of support and because friends and family haven't given up on them, if that is any comfort.

Eids I have to say your organisational ability impresses me more and more every day; you made your own nappies?! Wow!

Rosy I'm with you, I'm not in denial about labour but the thought of actually having a small baby? I got some newborn clothes the other day off Freecycle and I couldn't believe how small they were! And that's the size our baby's gonna be!!

Diva I had heard that about Pethadine, am going to try and avoid it. Smacked up on G&A, that'll be me

Kitty glad you have a lovely time in London, it's horrible though when you're on your feet for so long!

Booboo I'm also convinced I'm going to go overdue. Don't know why, I don't know whether or not my Mum was overdue with me or anything, it's just a "hunch". Very scientific I know!

Has anyone heard from Callie?

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 06:51

Morning everyone

Dolly, sorry about your dad's results. What does this mean for him now?

Mossy, newborn clothes are so cute aren't they? They grow so quickly though that they aren't in them for long though.

I've got Callie's address. I was going to send her the birth dvd but there's no point now . Do you think I should send a card from all of us instead? I know you can't sign it in person but if you would
like me to do it on your behalf I'd be happy to do that. it's a tricky one as we don't know what's been going on. What do you think?

DollyPopsOut · 16/01/2007 07:08

Thanks girls.

The results mean that he may need a brain op to clear a clot. However, he's nearly 77, in poor general health, absolutely terrified and without any guarantee that the op will make it any better. I know medicine doesn't offer guarantees, but it has got to be a more likely than not to do some good for it to be worth trying, surely? Am feeling a bit pants as my mum is being slightly bullied by stupid junior drs and I feel I should wade in and protect her. However, they live a long way away, I don't have a car (and can't hire one as I am terrified of driving) and DD on a train is a nightmre. Plus I am constantly shattered anyway, and as i haven't finished work yet going down would be hard. I am phoning 2x a day, but that seems a bit lame really.

For Callie - I think sending a card would be a nice idea. I expect they are still in hosp as her DS must be in SCBU as he was so premature. If it were me, I would really appreciate a card to let her know that we are thinking of her and wishing her family well. I say go for it!

You're up early ladies. You off to work soon Moss? How many days are we on now? Am counting with you!

Have started a thread in Bf about what to do when DD2 arrives and DD1 wants to bf. Hope someone can offer some advice!

More later XXXXX

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 07:46

Moss - I was at a party with ds the other day and somebody there had a 3 week old. I was looking at it and thinking "I don't remember ds everbing that small". Actually as a 9lb-er he posibly wasn't ever that small, but there wouldn't have been a huge difference. You tend to forget when they've turned into strapping 5 year olds quite what they were like when they were tiny.

Really must start sorting things out next week when dh gets back. I'm not doing it on my own as have visions of bump getting stuck if I try to go through the hatch to the loft!

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 08:19

Kitty I think a card would be a lovely idea, even if we can't "sign" it.

Dolly I have 32 working days to go!

I don't think phoning twice a day is lame, I think you are doing absolutely everything that you can and I'm sure your Mum appreciates it.

bethoo · 16/01/2007 08:39

Rosy - they do not test as a rule, only if it happens to appear on a routine urine sample. there is a lot of debate about whether testing for strep b is justifyable. i was quite lucky as i heard about it through a work collegue whose friends baby had died of it and what with this being my first i am paranoid so i happened to mention it and the mw said they do not test but called up two days later and said 'remember that conversation.... well turned out it was there! so it may be worth mentioning it. 30% of women carry it.

does anyone else have a small bump?
i hear that most first time babies are usually late.
i just cant wait to finish work, it feels like i just clock watch now until i can go home to bed!

Piffle · 16/01/2007 09:14

Feel better ish now, still feel like I have a hole where my headache was but no pain
