This must be our 100th thread.

Possibly.

Kitty, a card for Callie is a good idea I think because we are all thinking about her, it would be good to let her know.

Bethoo, 30% I did have a notion it was quite high so it makes even less sense that people aren't routinely checked then!

Dolly do you have any brothers or sisters to help with your Dad? At the moment it's my Dad who drives to me and helps me, if he was ill I would feel just the way you do

We are all gradually on the mend, the children are still unwell but they are fighting so they must be getting better!

foxabout2pop · 16/01/2007 09:20

Hello girls

Diva - I hate pethidine too and would advise anyone not to use it. It made DS sleepy for about 36 hours and ruined our bonding and BFeeding as well - plus it did nothing for the pain whatsoever

Boo - R U working until half term, birth buddy?

Kitty - glad you enjoyed the museums, we should really go there more often but so I hate doing public transport with kids! If you come up to London again, you must pop round for a cuppa - specially when I'm on maternity leave One of my friends on my local thread is moving to Dorset and I feel - still got that "I must leave London" urge

BTW it would be lovely if you sent a card form us to Callie, thanks for offering. I'm sure it will cheer her to know we're all thinking of her.

Eids - handmade nappies - what a woman!!! I agree with you that its best to avoid heavy buggies - as the kids grow and get heavier a heavy buugy can be a nightmare to handle.

Dolly - You poor thing. You're doing as much as you can so don't feel guilty. I hope your Dad's condition improves soon

Rosylily · 16/01/2007 09:21

Piffle that will be exciting today but no way would I do any painting if I were you Hope your dd gets better soon. Everyone seems to have sicky infants at the moment.

foxabout2pop · 16/01/2007 09:22

Hi Rosy - good to hear your family are on the mend

Rosylily · 16/01/2007 09:26

Hi Fox that was a horrible pethidine experience, after hearing what you and Diva have to say about it I'll be avoiding it like the plague!

bethoo · 16/01/2007 10:17

has everyone sorted out their birthing plan? i was thinking of a water birth with gas and air though my friend advised me to put everything on the plan otherwise they will not consider it! the thought of a huge needle in my spine freaks me out!
thank goodness i am not the only one with a little bump! with my coat on you cannot even tell! i keep meaning ot get back to the gym but by the time i get home i just want to sleep! and i have two active dogs who need walking too! have no idea how i am going to manage with a pram and two dogs! anyone got any tips?

muppetisacat · 16/01/2007 10:17

Foxy and Diva - I'm 100% with you on the pethidine. I was given 2 lots of it through my dd's labour by a midwife who I was convinced wanted me to have it just to shut me up and keep me quiet throughout her night shift. Your description of it was perfect Diva... never having it again...

Dolly - you actually sound as though you're doing all you can. Do you have any siblings that live a bit nearer to your parents?

Kitty - defo a good idea to send Callie a card... I was thinking of her yesterday and wondering if all was well. No real experience of such prem. babies - do you think they'll keep him in hospital for many weeks?

Am thinking of making a tee shirt with the words DUE IN 7 WEEKS on it to stop every single mother in the playground asking me!! I swear - even people who've asked me 2 days ago ask me again next time they see me! It's sweet of people to show an interest I know... it's just my own personal bugbear at the moment! Must be having a mardy cow day...

quick and pain free

sorted

YankeeFish · 16/01/2007 10:21

Morning All,

Everyone seems to have so much going on in their lives, its a wonder we have time to grow these babies.

Rosy, glad the family is feeling better.

Piffle - stay away from paint - you wouldn't want baby to breathe in all those chemicals!!!

Kitty - the card would be lovely for Callie.

Diva - right, stay away from Pethidine

Dolly - heartbroken over your Dad - would hate to be in sad position, as I live about 6,000 miles from mine. Everyone says we will love our children so much more that we love our parents, but I was blessed with the best parents and am dreading being without them someday.

Bethoo / Piffle I'm afraid I can't help with small bumps. People keep saying "are you sure it isn't twins?" because my bump is pretty darn big!

Rosy glad you're feeling a tad better, hopefully you'll be right as rain soon enough.

Grrr just had to really hold my tongue in work. 'Cos I'm not doing a Consultant role any more I've divvied up my colleagues between Darth and another colleague, who I shall call... let's think... Jabba (she's not fat, just repulsive and incredibly money-motivated, I know that's a good thing in sales but she takes it to extremes).

Anyway I have a lovely client called Tracy who is an Accountant at a firm of Solicitors. She started straight from school about 20 years ago as a postroom clerk and worked her way up. She is lovely and friendly, a really nice, genuine person. She is a little shy by nature.

Jabba took a vacancy from her and then spent the next hour dissing her, banging on about how pathetic it was that she was so "wet", how it showed no ambition that she'd stayed with the same co for so long, blah blah blah.

I was so I tried to cover it with humour and said "fgs the woman's just given you a vacancy to work on you should be grateful ha ha ha that's what we get paid for after all ha ha ha" but inside I was seething.

Ohhhhh I'll be sooooo glad when I'm outta here!

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 10:50

Sorry xposts with everyone!

Bethoo I'm waiting to see the hosi's birth centre facilities before doing the birth plan.

Muppet you realise you'll have to change the t-shirt every week, don't you

Yankeefish aside from work my life's pretty uneventful atm (thank goodness) maybe why my bump is so huge!!!

TheBlonde · 16/01/2007 10:53

I had a small bump with DS
Bump is huge this time (I think)

I had pethidine with DS which enabled me to get 2 hrs kip, would rather avoid it but didn't have any nasty side effects for us

My birth plan is more a reference for DH.
Never showed it to a MW.
DH will also take a reference book with him I bet (last time he had hidden pregnancy for dummies in the labour bag)

foxabout2pop · 16/01/2007 10:56

Bethoo - birthplan: Hospital birthing room with disco lights/lava lamps, with pool and gas and air. 2 hours max for the labour! LOL!

Muppet - I get the same thing - every bllomin person I walk past says "how long then?"

Moss - Jabba sounds like a complete bumhole!!!

muppetisacat · 16/01/2007 11:01

Moss - perhaps I could write it on my palm in biro David Blaine style! Then as I approached people I could pre-empt them opening their mouths and shove my hand towards them!

On the other palm I would write "It's a boy and Yes I do know I've left a huge age gap between this one and my ds!"

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 11:06

"I am illusion... I am Blaine" Muppet I love it. Or you could just get your hands on some psychic paper, Doctor Who style.

Foxy they nearly all are! But Jabba is really starting to annoy me atm... you know one of those people who has a face that you dream about slapping?

TheBlonde I am going to try and get dh to read something about labour. Although I think he's been doing some secret reading, having said that.

Last night the dogs went out into the yard and they were doing a lot of barking, so I went to bring them in, and he joked, "you could just leave them out there, we could say we're ferberizing them". Now where did he learn a word like that?

bethoo · 16/01/2007 11:11

i cant believe i only have 7 weeks to go! the first trimester dragged and now it is flying! still totally unprepared but when are you 100% ready?
so does gas and air really work for pain relief?

33 weeks 4 days!!!

Rosylily · 16/01/2007 11:12

My bump is pretty big so it matches my nose, my mouth and my feet

Birth plan... Hopefully dh will be with me and kids being looked after by my sis and/or parents.
Be nice to have their company in early stages.
lots of breathing and diy hypnobirthing, calmly meandering to hospital, gas and air, panting at last bit to hopefully slow things down and prevent tears or grazes, baby delivered onto chest, no placenta injection unless there's a problem. Bf asap. Lovely bath with T tree oil and lavender.

bethoo · 16/01/2007 11:15

Rosy - you sound like an expert! i am just hoping that i do not panic! what is hypnobirthing?

Piffle · 16/01/2007 11:38

muppet there is 9.5 yrs between ds(13)and dd (4)and 13 yrs between ds and the new baby.
pracically a generation gap these days!

Rosylily · 16/01/2007 11:39

Hypnobirthing seems to be the 'latest thing'
Might read up on it out of interest.Though I note Kitty's about it.

My first labour I tensed up, held my breath and kicked my legs with each contraction....not a good system!

Now that I'm old and mellow I seem to send myself into a trance, breathing, focusing and 'going with' each contraction. I don't like to be touched and I like to keep very still during a contraction.

I do have fears though...that Dh will be in cork, or that it'll happen too fast and I'll give birth in the car or car park!
So I'm trying to think positively and visualise a calm, easy labour!

foxabout2pop · 16/01/2007 11:44

Rosy - I like to wriggle my butt during contractions - I find it really helps.

This is why I want disco lights and music.... (joke)

Anyone packed their bag yet? Just in case...

I can't wait to hear from Callie when she is able to join us again - she must have been taken by surprise!!

Jaysecond · 16/01/2007 12:11

Morning all - or is it afternoon now......!

Things here with DD are better, she was sick only once yesterday and so far today shes been ok, bar the sneezing coughing and horrid gunky nose. Bless her cottons.

Rosylily, my bump is also massive, Everyone can remember my last one as it wasnt that long since , so they keep on comparing it. DH is a freak... he wants me to have a 10lber.... he was nearly 10lbs and wants his son to beat him......strange one that he is, mind you he says my eternity ring ( that he promised me after DD, but somehow got overlooked) can be the next ;jump; up in the price range if hes over 10lbs! Not sure what i want more, a smaller baby or a bigger diamond! HEHEHEH Time will tell.
As for birth plans and bags packed, i havnt doen either. With DD i jotted down some bits and bobs, but it all went pete tong when i had to be hooked up onto the drip. I would really like to do the water birth and G&A this time, i asked if there were tours round my Hospital, but they have stopped doing them, wonder why??? makes me a bit nervous, i might just wander down and ask to ahve a lok at the birthing bit...

Piffle hope the furniture has turned up, i say dont do the pianting, DH said i could be in charge of the nursery painting, i said 'in your dreams'!

Dolly, thoughts are with you for your Dad, dont beat yourself up about what you cant do , just focus on what you can do, and i think phoning x2 a day is support enough at this stage.

Eids, thanks for your comments re the buggy. I havnt been able to source on from here and the shipping costs are approx £140, so i think i might just dump the idea. I do like the mountain urban dubble though, have seen it and its quite light, with height adjustable bars and other stuff i want, so i might go for that, ones going on ebay at the mo, might watch it for a bit!

I have been getting really bad heart palpatation since yesterdfay morning. Its horrid, real banging going on in my chest with what feels like missing beats, then loads of real flutterings type movments which seems to make this 'boy' move so much, kicking squirming rolling huiccuping and punching, seems to be all the time, i wonder if the palpataion have any implications on the baby, anyone else had/having them?

muppetisacat · 16/01/2007 12:25

Piffle - crikey - thought I was the odd one out with a 9 year old and 7 year old - but a 13 year age gap! Well - the mother's at my school would have a field day with you. Honestly - some of the comments I've heard have been downright rude!

Jay - I have a mild and harmless heart murmur which pre-disposes me to palpitations and ectopic heart beats (those times when you feel you've missed a beat and then one comes in with a big bang) - always been told they're completely harmless and everyone gets them. Most of the time you are unaware you have them but probably with your pregnancy and baby lying in different positions you are more aware of what your heart is doing.

My only advice would be if you are at all worried - see your gp. I've actually noticed an improvement in my symptoms since being pg as your heart slightly enlarges - one side effect of this is my dodgy valve gets pulled back into a better position.

Jaysecond · 16/01/2007 12:42

Thanks for the reasurrance muppet, its not the first time i have had them, in fact my Mum gets them also. Its just that it has never gone on this long. Normally i just ignore them and they go, but what with thinking about how close i am to birth it just made me wonder thats all. Will see how i go and take it from there! Glad to hear that yours seems to get batter though, seems pregnancy is good for something!!

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 13:10

I don't really have a specific plan. After last time have come to the conclusion that you can't necessarily plan it, and it's better to not have too many specific expectations than risk feeling it had "gone wrong" if it didn't live up to what you'd thiought would happen.

With ds my waters broke, and then absolutely nothing happened for two days, followed by induction which led almost instantly to contractions lasting about 45 seconds, with only 15 seconds between them, and hence continuous monitoring, then eventually an epidural which bizarrely (and unintentionally) stopped at my ankles so I surprised everyone by being able to stand up and walk to the bathroom immediately after the birth.

Downside of that is although I've nominally done it before it certainly wan't a case of contractions starting, and then eventually heading off to the hospital, so I'm not sure I'll really recognise what's happening if I manage to do it in a more conventional way this time!
