This must be our 100th thread.

Possibly.

Hi all, having a crappy day here so have just come on to complain
DS split milk all over him/me/the kitchen first thing. He then got weetabix all over his trousers (the only remaining unmilked garment). He has then whinged all morning while we waited for John Lewis delivery.
I didn't check each item off and have now found part of his new bed is the wrong colour. So now I have to wait in for them again next week

bethoo · 23/01/2007 14:35

kitty - what are you selling?
i am still in need of pram, cot and i am undecided on steriliser as i intend to breast feed my mw said i do not need one but work colleague says i do! also thinking of investing in a baby carrier (thingy that you wear and baby is on you!. my baby knowledge or lack of scares me!!

divastrop · 23/01/2007 15:00

i was about to read all the posts today but just realised ive got to pick up ds2...i got as far as fox's dream ,try this site ,its got a good dream dictioary and a busy forum

i dreamed the other night that dp bought a pregnancy test for his pc

i'll be back later!

LunarSea · 23/01/2007 15:11

bethoo - I'd get one, becasue even if you're planning to bf you might at some point want to express, or to give water from a bottle, or whatever, so you'll use it for that in any case. (She says realising that although she's still got the steriliser she's lost the instructions and can't remember how much water to put in it, or how long it needs to go in the microwave for.)

3rdTriMossTer · 23/01/2007 15:41

Is it true, or is it just an urban myth, that instead of a steriliser you can use a vegetable steamer?

AS for your dream Diva, you have mentioned before he spends a lot of time on the computer.... was it pg in the dream?

sexkittyinwaiting · 23/01/2007 15:45

That's a good idea Foxy, might try that. I could go to the post office, it's the whole setting up a selling page malarky. I know once it's done it'll be easy and I'll get round to it at some point. It hasn't arrived yet!!

Bethoo, it's a first stage car seat a "Maxi Cosi" it gets top marks in the MN reviews. They go for a fortune on ebay

sexkittyinwaiting · 23/01/2007 15:47

A dishwasher is fine as a steriliser. I've always used our dishwasher for bottles. None of mine have had bugs 'cos of it.

3rdTriMossTer · 23/01/2007 15:56

Oh, I don't have a dishwasher! I had heard you could use a veg steamer though, but I was a bit so I don't know.

Actually there is a dishwasher in our house it's called msmoss lol!

Leoladyofleisure · 23/01/2007 16:11

moss, I don't think a steriliser is necessary its just more convenient. and I am sure you can use a vegetable steamer, the steam steriliser works in the same way or just boil the bits in pan of water. Steriliser is probably just a bit more convenient. Personally I wouldn't bother to get one until you know you need it. If the baby has a dummy they also need to be sterilised - there are sterilising bags you can get to put in the microwave which I think would be just as convenient for that.

Piffle · 23/01/2007 16:39

Hi again!
Been to clinic and had scan!
Is anyone else having late scans?
I ask cos this little guy has a femur length measuring 35+4 wks
I'm just 32 wks!
I'm sure it just means he has long legs maybe but it seems a little weird!
All else fine, discharged from consultant care unless I go overdue (pls no!!!!)
Hooray!

Piffle · 23/01/2007 16:40

I have never owned a steriliser
I b/f and weaned both at 6 mths, never sterilised a thing

3rdTriMossTer · 23/01/2007 16:42

Leo thanks for that, I am planning to bf but you never know how these things are gonna go! Also even if I do manage it I will want to express so dh can take over occasionally & give me a break!

I thought dummies were "old skool" now? I find a lot of this "you must do this / mustn't do this" stuff quite confusing tbh. So should I get some dummies too?

Leoladyofleisure · 23/01/2007 16:43

Piffle, I get scanned every 2 weeks because of having twins and have consultant care all the way through.
What did they say about the size of the baby? I have no idea but surely it would only be a cm or two anyway and I think they often find the estimate the sizes of the babies badly in late scans. are you sure you have the dates right? they are obviously not concerned if you are discharged from consulant care.

Piffle · 23/01/2007 16:47

Everything else meaasures between 32 and 24 wks
I'm not so worried as ds is 13 and 99.6 centile he is tall and lean

DD has a syndrome that keeps her petite
So I'm guessing this guy is more like my ds.
Which means he takes after my side of the family!

Leoladyofleisure · 23/01/2007 16:54

Wow, long legs, he will be an athlete!

divastrop · 23/01/2007 17:21

finally caught up...

bethoo-i had a scan at 36 weeks with dd2 and they gave me a picture cos she was asleep resting her head on her hand.you could even see her hair on it!
you are allowed to use mobiles in my hospital as well-it was just the old analogue ones that used to interfere with the old ventilators etc.they still ahve all the 'no mobile phones' sign up though.the tv is just a small selection of freeview channels.

moss-i didnt find out if the pc was pregnant.the night before that i had an even worse dream about dp+his pc.it was disgusting.

my sweet little angel(dd2) has ,in the last week, morphed into a toddler, having paddys, hitting ds2 over the head with toys, trying to pull mine+dp's faces off when we pick her up etc.help

32+6(girl...oh help!!!)

LaidbackinEngland · 23/01/2007 17:39

Bethoo - I have never owned a steriliser and general opinion these days ( search the mumsnet threads) is that you don't need a steriliser at all. Hot soapy water suffices or as kitty says - a dishwasher.

I am knackered as spent afternoon traipsing round the town with DS1 , having his hair cut and buying him some warmer clothes. Off to the cinema tonight with DH and then up to London tomorrow.

Piffle - hope you are feeling OK .

Will talk to DH about all your dreams as he does jungian dream anaysis.

LaidbackinEngland · 23/01/2007 17:40

Breast and bottle feeding: IMHO and the opinion of microbiologists there is no need to sterilize

This is what the thread is called... don't know how to link to it...... sorry x

TheBlonde · 23/01/2007 18:03

here it is

Moss - you can easily pick up a steriliser after LO arrives at most boots or big supermarkets if you decide you want one

foxabout2pop · 23/01/2007 18:21

Hiya - I had a steriliser for DS and DD but didn't even bother using it for DD. I would just wash stuff and then pour boiling water over anything I felt needed an extra zap.

Will use the dishwasher this time though.

What slings are people using?I swear by my baby bjorn, its so comfy compaired to the others I've used.

Kitty - have you been to the GP about DD's impetigo? Just got back from ours - he gave us some nasal anti bacterial stuff and some floucloaxillin (sp) as a back up.

sexkittyinwaiting · 23/01/2007 18:25

Foxy, I got the nasal stuff for me as I'm sure it's me who's passing it to her. She's got that flu....illin stuff. It's left a horrible deep scabby hole on her leg, nasty germs

TheBlonde · 23/01/2007 18:33

Foxy - slingwise I am still umming and ahhing
I was set on a babybjorn but feeling tempted by wrap slings like didymos. The price is putting me off

foxabout2pop · 23/01/2007 18:35

TheBlonde - I bought a 2nd hand baby bjorn at an NCT nearly new sale, for about a tenner

Its old and scruffy but I love it (a bit like DH actually )

Kitty what is your nasal stuff called? Mine gave us "Naseptin Nasal Cream"

3rdTriMossTer · 23/01/2007 18:43

I got a baby carrier given to us by a friend of mil's, not sure what brand it is but it sure looks complicated, like one of those camping rucksacks where you need to clip about ten different things around your stomach and back!

Still, it's free, and I'll figure it out!

Hmmmm.... I wonder if I should add a dishwasher to my list of things I must have before lo arrives?

sexkittyinwaiting · 23/01/2007 19:05

Foxy, I've got that naseptin this time round

Theblonde, I've had two types of wrap slings, they were both "tricotti". They worked brilliantly for dd2, I could carry her for hours.

dd3 didn't like them and was very heavy so I got an ergo baby carrier fore her.
