This must be our 100th thread.

Possibly.

Glad to know that some of you out there are as mad about dogs as I am. I love mine so much that I worry about when the little one comes - I don't want to face that he may be jealous or sad over the LO. Anyone know of good ways to introduce baby to dogs? We have the baby's room set up, and allow him in there as he pleases - not sure if this is good or bad? What about bringing home something that smells of baby before the real thing? Will have to get a picture up of my dog and my belly ASAP. Jealous of all of yours - everyone looks GREAT!

Hi Yankee. I started a thread about this a while ago, and advice I got was:

  • Anything you think might change, change it now, so the dog doesn't 'blame' the baby. I.e. Prob best not to let him in the baby's room at all. There'll be lots of times when he can't go in there once LO's born (i.e. when baby's sleeping), so best start that now.
  • Any behavioural issues (for example pulling on the lead/jumping up) should be sorted pronto. You won't have the energy or time once baby arrives.
  • Other stuff like letting your dog sniff a dirty nappy/babygro, then letting him sniff baby's feet, but not the head.
  • Maybe ignore your dog lots more. It's good leadership reinforcement, and they'll get used to it before baby arrives.

Bethoo: I think she's beautiful too! AKAIK, she's Jack Russell/Whippet/Ridgeback/Staffy.

Hello everyone, hope you don't mind me joining in! I'm due on the 6th March. Bump seems to have got HUGE in the last week or so, or so everyone at work keeps telling me. Durrrr - I'm nearly 8 months pregnant! Experienced mums - when do you normally engage? I'm so breathless at the moment and would rather be constantly peeing than constantly panting!
Callie - best wishes to you and your little boy.

sexkittyinwaiting · 19/01/2007 14:36

Welcome Ettena Sorry can't help you with engaing heads none of mine have engaged until literally on the way out . Most first timers are supposed to be from about 36 weeks I think

divastrop · 19/01/2007 14:41

hi ettena-i engaged with my first at about 35/36 weeks, which i think is about averave.it does start to feel like theres a football hanging between your legs when they get really far down though.im due on march 14th but im booked in for induction on 7th.

kitty-yes thats this bump.i was about 4ft wide when expecting ds1.

i tried rasberry leaf tea last time.it made no difference, ive also heard curry/pineapple etc dont do anything either.sex does help,it doesnt necessarily bring on labour but it does help get the cervix ready and speeds things up.as long as the oh erm 'finishes'
either that or get the turkey baster out.

well i discovered to my horror this morning that i havent actually got any of dd2's newborn or 0-3 clothes.i gave them to the charity shop with my maternity clothes when i had my 'i am never having any more children' rampage when dd2 was about 6 weeks old.and i forgot.so unless this baby's going to be huge and will fit in 3-6 months from birththen im going to have to buy stuff.oh bugger im really going to have to get sorted.

7 weeks 5 days to go according to edd.
6 weeks 5 days to go officially.not saying boy or girl anymore cos im not sure

bethoo · 19/01/2007 14:45

Yankeefish - i spoke to a dog behaviourist and he said to let the dog sniff/lick the babies feet and hands (but not face!) and to still give attention to dog. he said supervised ok but when baby is eating the dogs should be in different room. mine love kids, i do not worry about them biting or mauling my baby, they are just a bit clumsy with their feet! but i will not be leaving them unsupervised anyway. like i said before i am more concerned with the cats! they are supposed to be outdoor cats yet they still insist on sleeping with me! my biggest worry is walking them with a pram as they are pullers esp when they see other dogs which is why i got the behaviourist in in the first place!
Ettenna - know what you mean. i am 8 months today!

Rosylily · 19/01/2007 14:48

Hi Ettenna, can't remember when I engaged the first time! I already feel as if the baby has dropped a bit this time.

Piffle we were on the takeaways last night too even though the fridge is full of food!
My spd hips are starting to cause trouble now at times. After sitting I have to get up really slow and can't walk at first until my balls slip back into their socket! Could be so much worse though.

I am moaning constantly these days with my discomfort and YEARNING impatiently for baby to be born!

sexkittyinwaiting · 19/01/2007 14:59

I can't believe I've managed to keep the spd almost completely at bay this time .
I suffered so badly with during the last 4 pregs. I think it must have something to do with me automatically moving in ways that protct me, eg, keeping legs together when geting in and out of seats, not making any quick turning movemnts from the hip, but moving my whole body, being very careful when getting out of bed etc, basically not opening my legs much. I can still sit cross legged though, odd. Still, it makes such a difference NOT having it this time.
I just assumed it would get worse and worse with each preg. But I'm not waddling yet, now that's amazing

divastrop · 19/01/2007 16:30

kitty-'not opening my legs much' snigger...

sexkittyinwaiting · 19/01/2007 16:37

Diva
Actually someone told me I had a good waddle going today . There was me thinking I look quite normal.

3rdTriMossTer · 19/01/2007 16:48

I've been really busy in work today so haven't had chance to look through all these messages properly, sorry!!! Will do my level best!

Callie it's so nice to hear that you and little Jordi are doing well, and that he had a little suckle! When will they let you bring him home do you know?

Morocco I hadn't really twigged that you could get contractions unless you were going into labour, that must've been scary, hope you're okay now.

Dolly sorry your dd's not so well. Hope she gets better soon. How many days are we on now? My countdown only goes to the end of my time at work, I've not done a proper one!

Booboo, Bethoo your dogs are so cute and Bethoo your cat is funny, ours has nothing to do with our dogs; he looks down on them with disdain!

I'm loving having a good nose at these bumps! Although at those of you who just have a big bump rather than big everywhere else!! Muppet I can't see a belly button though!

Yankeefish I have heard that about bringing something home that smells of baby before you actually bring baby home. I have also "trialled" our two with the neighbours kids (on a lead - the dogs that is - before people think I just rounded up the kids and set the dogs lose on them!) and they were fine.

Eids I've never seen Prison Break actually. My colleague and I set up a TV Boyfriends cupboard and she put him in it. He's lovely! I just went and had a look at the chap you said; not bad but a bit too beefy for me. Is Prison Break good then?

Booboo my commute's Liverpool not London, if it was London I'd probably still be trying to get home now!!!

Hello Ettena

Diva, enough with the turkey baster already as you know that's what got me in this mess in the first place I did hear about rasberry leaf tea but I always think herbal teas smell so much better than they taste so if it doesn't work I'll give it a miss.

Apologies to anyone I've missed I've actually had to do some work today! It's just not good enough!

3rdTriMossTer · 19/01/2007 16:49

Oh forgot to say dh just emailed me and said that we could afford to eat out for tea tonight. Apart from the holiday in Cheshire, I haven't been out out iyswim for months and months I'm so excited!!!!! We'll go for a nice Chinese and I might even have half a glass of white wine.... mmmmmmm!

Booboobedoo · 19/01/2007 16:52

Sorry for my geographical blooper Mossy: blaim my placenta.

OP posts:
kiwibella · 19/01/2007 16:58

hi everyone... lots of talk of dogs and bumps!!
Good to see you here Ettena

I'm glad you have mentioned engaging... the baby is definately sitting much lower and, at times, I feel like there is no way I will make it to the toilet. My workmates are teasing me about my "waddle" too. But, I impressed myself and those who witnessed me having to run for my coat yesterday - not caught in the wind or anything dramatic just needing to get to the playground pronto!!

Apart from the aches and pains... hope that everyone is ok and looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

3rdTriMossTer · 19/01/2007 17:18

Booboo probably more of a chronological bleeper - about this time five years ago I probably was about to do a London commute!

I might miss Greenwich market and the DLR at a weekend but I certainly don't miss Connex and the tube!!

So how do you know when the baby's head engages? Does it happen suddenly or does it happen over a matter of days?

foxabout2pop · 19/01/2007 18:40

Hi everyone - have read all your posts but brain not together enough to reply

I've only seen Kitty's bump - can't see the kids and having probs seeing other bumps.

Ho hum

I felt funny reading about Dulwich Park too as we used to live near there

Boo - mine usually arrive 1 or 2 days B4 EDD. so I'm expecting it to all happen sometime between 26 Feb and 3 March. That's if the placenta previa shifts.

Have had LOADS of energy this week, which is spooky as that's a sign its close to being cooked, but it could be the decaff PG tips

Hi Etenna

muppetisacat · 19/01/2007 19:04

Hi Etenna - welcome!

Love the dog photos - will put my dog photo on just to not feel left out. That bed looked pretty crowded Bethoo! Any room for you in there?

Boo - your dog was an extrememly cute puppy, mine just looked like a smaller version, maybe slightly less neurotic though and he didn't run away so much as he couldn't clear the fences then. Just got a quote to raise them to 6 foot!

BEWARE NIPPLE TWEAKING! Have to say I did it with both of mine because a friend told me it could bring on labour and I was so desperate (you know how fed up you get you'll try anything) - 2 ruined mattresses later (waters breaking with spectacular force)... you don't need any more details...

I won't be doing it this time unless i'm in a shower/bath!

Glad everyone is safe after the storms yesterday.

32+6

divastrop · 19/01/2007 20:05

i must say i never tried the nipple thing...what exactly is one supposed to do(or have oh do?)

moss-the head can engage over a few weeks or days or all in one go just as you go into labour.its the measurement on ur notes- i think it is the column marked 'eng'-before its engaged the mw normally writes 'free',then its measured in how many 5ths of the head can still be felt-ie 4/5 its just starting to engage,1/5 almost completely engaged.you can normaly tell when its on its way down as you can suddenly breathe again but feel like you need to pee urgently most of the time and like theres a football hanging between your legs so you have to sit down slowly

DollyPopsOut · 19/01/2007 20:24

hello everyone

Moss, thanks for asking after DD. SHe is on fine form today, but I am pants. can't stop my nose running and must have sneezed about 100 times since 4pm. Alas, every time I sneeze a bit of wee comes out so I need to keep squeezing!!

Sorry, I can't remember much about what I've read today. I logged onto my work email (big mistake) and see that I have been right royally shafted in the 2 days since I was last in. Being this cross has wiped my brain of important things, like what's going on with everyone here. Hm. WIll have to see what I can do to rectify things at work on Monday. Am in the departure lounge now though and really can't be bothered to do much.

Kitty, isn't it a bit late to keep your legs together ?

I am deeply envious of those who are at the front end of March. If I am allowed my CS, I have 8 w and 2 days left. 58 days. Seems like ages. Can't wait but there is a lot of house stuff to do here first. Probably was a mistake to buy a house which needed so much done to it, but I guess it's now or never. I'll never organise anything once i have 2 LOs running around.

So far, not been plagued by the heartburn - it is miserable though so I do sympathise. I found something called Tums worked well last time for me. They are a bit like refreshers and much easier to chomp through than glugging Gaviscon. If anyone has any tips about thrush, that would be great. I am suffering a lot at the moment with it (must have had 15 prescriptions for Canesten and still counting). My fanny is so itchy (TMI alert - sorry) that I can't wear jeans a lot of the time and I really can't get comfortable with it. Esp at night. One thing I won't miss about being pg.

Hope everyone has a good evening. I've not watched too much BB this week as they are all so awful, but feel I must watch the eviction tonight.

Sorry for double post. And welcome Etenna .

LunarSea · 19/01/2007 20:28

diva/fox - the 180 miles last night was actually not too bad until the last 20 miles of it. 2 and a half hours for the first 160 miles, then another 2 hours for last 20 miles. But then today it took me 6 3/4 hours to get back, as sat on the M25 without moving for hours, and then got stuck again on the M40 for about another 1/2 hour. Oh well - at least I got a lie in and a nice breakfast this morning! Suppose I'd better see what work needs doing now as I didn't get back mid afternoon as I'd promised At least everyone else has gone home now so it won't make much difference whether I do it tonight or over the weekend, although I have another long distance meeting (by train this time) on Monday which I need to prepare for before then.

muppetisacat · 19/01/2007 20:44

Diva - think tuning in radio knobs!!! (sorry if tmi)

divastrop · 19/01/2007 21:28

lunar-glad you got back ok.i find myself really hoping you get paid obscene amounts of money for what you do though cos it sounds like you work your a**e off

muppet-how does it work?ive read the odd thing about nipple stimulation but i never paid much attention as i assumed it was talking about ,ahem, sucking.

sexkittyinwaiting · 19/01/2007 22:07

Dolly I use some stuff called "threelac" for thrush. it is a natural probiotic thingy which eats up the nasty thrush things. (words are failing me).
I always found that canesten got rid of it for a couple of days and then it would come back. Threelac keeps it away for ages. It might seem quite expensive but I have found that I don't need to take it all the time and it gets rid of it for ages.
Look it up on a website called "bodykind.com" sorry can't be arsed to do link thing. I am so goddam tired today. I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel like I'm drugged up.
