This must be our 100th thread.

Possibly.

OP posts:

LunarSea · 17/01/2007 12:47

Yep!

Jaysecond · 17/01/2007 12:51

hehehe we got there in the end. Did you say you will nake him the full name - Tobias, or the shortened version, Toby? I liked this name but DH knew a Toby who he just didnt click with....so that was crossed out even before we started

So anyone else got anymore guessing games?

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:53

not me it is almost 11pm so I am trundling off to bed otherwise I will be even more knackered than usual in the morning. Have speech therapy early for dd1 so up and at em early. Then off to buy her a skipping rope so she can stop using the aerial cable from the telly, then to buy a present for friend's who had a baby boy this morning. They are in the UK so need to get something aussie to send to them.

LunarSea · 17/01/2007 12:55

Jay - we'll probably hedge our bets by having Tobias as an official name, but using Toby.

Jaysecond · 17/01/2007 12:58

nioght then Eids, i forget we are not all in the UK sometimes, have a good sleep!

Lunar, good idea, that he can also choose when hes older, that is if a 'nickname' hasnt already stuck!

DH has just informed me his favourite name is still Marshall... i loved it to begin with but have gone off it, i better come up with something quick!

Piffle · 17/01/2007 13:25

two of my best friends have a Tobias (she also has a Sebastian) and a Toby.
Both are commonly referred to as Tobes.
both btw are very very lovely boys
who was aking about Braxton hicks
Yes they feel like tightenings, they get stronger and longer and more frequent as you get further along.
I find mine atm mean I have to wee NOW!

muppetisacat · 17/01/2007 13:26

I like Toby too - but same as Jay - my dh was at school with someone of that name who he didn't get on with - really mucks things up when that happens doesn't it.

No idea what I'll call this one. Used up all my fave boys names with ds1...

3rdTriMossTer · 17/01/2007 13:34

Eids I really loved Morag - but no one else did, even mil, who isn't the type to push her opinions on you, said "hmm... I might feel more comfortable calling her 'Mo'".

For a girl I also liked the name Rosalind, but it just wouldn't have worked with dh's surname (West).

I was actually quite relieved when we saw his boy bits on the scan as, with the exception of fil, everyone loved "Bertie".

Like you Lunar our name has a full version for his birth cert (Bertram) so he can choose if he wants something a bit posher when he's older.

Foxy I like all of them, my fave is monti. Adoni is nice though, do you think the reason people might be a bit is 'cos it looks a bit like Adonis and that's a lot to live up to?

sexkittyinwaiting · 17/01/2007 14:03

Hello all, I've read, honestly!!
Had a midwife app this am. Baby seemd fine but my fungas measurements are coming up small for the ist time this preg, 2cm below so 29 at 31 weeks. So now I'm fretting that all the business of my life is stopping the baby from growing. The midwife said they don't worry at 2 weeks either way, but if it gets to 3 they'll send me for a scan. So I don't know why this could be. She told me to rest, eat and grow the baby. I went and got a box of fresh cream cakes from Tescos
Has anyone else got discrepent growth measurements or have had experience of them in previous pregs?

31 weeks today(boy)

YankeeFish · 17/01/2007 14:16

Hi All,

Kitty - no experience myself, but sister in law was 1cm off at 34 weeks and they are doing a scan to do baby measurements - just to be sure. She may also be breech, so a scan will help with both. But - she is the the USA - so they are always a bit aggressive to watch for ANYTHING there for insurance reasons.

All the books say that individuals all grow a bit irregularly, so I am sure you will be fine at next appt - but go for those creme cakes anyways. Add some bisquits in as well.

names, names.... they are so personal aren't they? my dh comes up with some crazy ones. my favorite (or least favorite is Eidur) as in down pillow. I guess there is some footballer....ugh. I am going for the more traditional...but the one great grandmother's name that isn't going to work is Norma Senorita. And she was American German!!

kitty - just the opposite here. I saw my MW today - and "fungus" has grown by 3 cm in 2 weeks. If the measurements are accurate heading for well over 10lbs, even if don't go overdue (probably won't be allowed to). So although no problems with samples they're sending me off for a GTT.

sexkittyinwaiting · 17/01/2007 14:39

You must be doing something right then Lunar

bethoo · 17/01/2007 14:51

my fundal height is always 1 - 2 cm behind but the midwife says there are a number of reasons for this. it could be because i am small so i will have a small baby or the baby is just lying in a different position instead of longitudinal. like he could be lying sideways! i am quite lucky in that i have only gone up a size to a 10 but waiting to explode a week before and get stretch marks whixh i have managed to avoid, i say it is the amount of baby oil i slather on every day!
i also like the name Loki for a boy as i like the 'Gods' names from mythology. may not work as my two dogs are named after Gods! Zeus and Thor!
i mentioned Braxton Hicks as i have a tightening feeling in my lower abdomen and think it may be braxton hicks or maybe i have eaten to much!

Rosylily · 17/01/2007 15:32

bethoo that sounds like braxton hicks. I'm getting loads nowadays. It's the only excercise I'm doing!

All the names are lovely, lots of really original ones and names with good significance. I am busting to discuss names with dh but will have to do it in a vague way with both girls and boys names as he doesn't want to know...

Callie I am very impressed about the expressing as I find it really hard to express anything. Hopefully you'll be able to breast feed in person soon, but it's helping him thrive by the sounds of it!

Leoladyofleisure · 17/01/2007 15:49

Hi everyone, again I've only read the last couple of posts.... will skim through a bit more though.

And read the post from Callie - well done Callie, hang in there. Because of the risk of twins being prem I looked around scbu at my hospital to be more mentally prepared and have thought a lot about it just in case. I really feel for you, would love to give you a big hug and hold your hand. Keep us upto date on Jordi's progress when you have time. Thinking about you all and wishing him safely home to you as soon as possible.

From what I know the fungus height is a really inaccurate way of measuring anything and most places don't bother with it anymore. Kitty, have you put on less weight this pregnancy? Could also be how, where and who is measuring it.

Toby is the name on the top of our list of boys names, the only thing is the English pronunciation is much nicer than the swiss.
I know what you all mean about associating a name with someone you know - we also thought about Tim, but then I remembered that its my uncle's name and he is associated with rather unhappy events and memories surrounding the end of my dad's life so I don't think we can use that one. Adam is another one we liked, but Adam was a teenage shag of mine rather a nice one that I haven't mentioned ot DH ....

3rdTriMossTer · 17/01/2007 16:00

Will reply to all later.

...but for now...

Click on my name and you can see a photo (admittedly not very clear) of my bump!!!!

Booboobedoo · 17/01/2007 16:04

Hello!

Finally got time to post.

Callie: so glad you're ok, although I can 'hear' that you're frazzled. You sound like you're doing fantastically, and I'm sure your mulk-supply will increase when you finally get to breast-feed little Jordi. I'll bet he's gorgeous, and he'll always be extra precious because he was born so tiny.

(Good idea about the card btw kitty: put me down!).

Birth-buddy Foxy: not sure when I'll be finishing work tbh. I'm having real trouble finding a singing/drama teacher with a Musical Theatre background who plays the piano well. No-one really suitable has applied. Trying not to panic...

Went to my 2nd antenatal class last night. We spent the last half-hour on massage. Mums leaning over pilates balls with our huge pregant arses sticking in the air, and Dads massaging us in all sorts of intimate places. DH and I felt really self-concious, and my knees were killing me afterwards. Don't know how much help any of that'll be in labour.

We're definitely sticking to Jonathan Peter: Jonny for short (his rock and roll name). Peter is after my Uncle who died when he was 52. My Grandma is very touched, and sent me a lovely letter telling me so.

3rdTriMossTer · 17/01/2007 16:58

Kitty, you're close. It's a chocolate biscuit!

Bethoo the grass is always greener you know... "are you sure it's not twins" can get wearing after a while

Booboo your antenatal sounds good, I'm going to speak to my mw tomorrow and then speak to all the recommendations I've had at weekend when I'm not in work to try and get onto one.

Rosylily · 17/01/2007 18:21

Moss that's an impressive bump! How did you do that though? Argh I'm such a computor thicko. I need to get my ds1 to help me!

kiwibella · 17/01/2007 18:57

All the talk of names is exciting and such fabulous choices. I had wanted a Maori second middle name and a friend suggested one today which I love so much I'm tempted to make it a first name! It all has to get past the MIL so who knows what will happen. Kitty... Kai is a Maori word too - means food I know it is a common Muslim name also.

Eids... I know what you mean about being a teacher and having problems with names. There are a few of us on here who must be suffering similarly. I have names I wouldn't use for both good and bad reasons.

Boo... absolutely pml at your antenatal session. I don't suppose you will be birthing on your knees then .

Kitty... love the cream cake purchase. A perfect way to relax.

Hope you managed to keep calm with your dd today Fox - cheeky monkey asking mummy not to shout!!

Yes Bethoo... I have the same problem with needing the loo as soon as I have walked away from it. It's a right pain - and I'm sure my workmates must think I spend half the day in there. Maybe I do .

Poor Jay and your cold... snivel! Take it easy and rest up. Kitty has a great cure

Yay for your growth scan Magpie. Fingers crossed that you will be giving birth at home.

I have a couple of pairs of Pumpkin Patch socks from my big shop in the sales. I will get some more after your recommendations... like I need an excuse
