CALLIE dd1 was born in the UK - for me expressing was a nightmare - I expressed as much as I could and would take it up to the hospital. WIth dd1 my milk never seemed to come in properly. However saying that - dd2 was breastfed and even expressing when feeding her I never seemed to be able to do too much. I just expressed what I could and then dd1 would have a formula called prejestamil ( no idea how to spell it!!) but it was designed specifically for premie babies. Dd1 was not technically premie but as she had not grown in the womb for over two weeks they treated her with extra care etc.

The ng tube was a nightmare - before they would release dd1 from hospital we had to learn how to put it in - I have a very sensitive gag reflex and could almost puke everytime they changed it when I was around. So you can imagine the nightmare it was trying to do it - I made dh do it. Thankfully she only pulled it out once.

Once dd1 came home - we had a community paed nurse who would visit along with the HV and the paed nurse would change the tube every week and we would just have to make sure we flushed it a little after every feed to stop milk settling in the very tip.

How long will Jordi have to stay in for?

Are you able to do kangaroo care with him? If not - ask the scbu nurses if you can - brilliant. Basically you are like a kangaroo - open shirt up a bit and they pop your baby on your chest - using your shirt like a pouch!! The skin to skin and the heartbeat is supposed to be fab for them. I loved doing it with dd1.

Thankfully dd1 was only in for 3 weeks and we only lived about 5 minutes drive if that from the hospital. But it soon took its toll. Make sure you are resting as well. I would get dh to drop me at the hospital when he went to work ( had c-section so no driving) then I would stay until after lunch - then go home and have a rest, then when dh came home from work ( usually early) we would go up together. I found that resting really helped me deal with the stress and get over the emergency surgery and all that came with it.

Sorry for the long message but I hope it helps. If you want to email me:

morning all, no matter how hard i try i cant cope with all the posts, its becoming an opbsession to try and respond to each and everyone!

LOADS of congratulations to you Callie, Hubby and Jordi, you must be so proud. It must be a tough time for you both at the mo, but you sound so on top of it, virtual hugs winging their way!!

I thikn Muppetisacat covered most things there, how come it doesnt look like we have chatted about a lot, yet we are 100's of posts into this thread!!!!

DH and i still cant agree on names, like many others out there, i fear i wont have anything at all by the time he pops out ( thats right, my baby will just 'pop' out, no drugs screaming or stitchs...} and that DH will just trot of to the registrar and name him something totally of the wall... oh god i better start thinking. I checked out some of the websites, the Shakesphere one i already have on my favs, its quite good as it gives so many different names from different sources, i will have to plough through them!
I like Hayden btw Bethoo!

Well i have come down with a stinking cold now, to be expected really as have had DD sneezing in my face for the past four five days, god i hate colds ,they really make you feel tired and drawn. Drinking honey and lemon and sniffing vic at the mo.....no idea if it helps but it does smell nice!

Welcome back Laidback, bet it feels good to be back now after all the hassle you had with removals, it was you wasn't it....!!!

Have got someone coming round to pick up some stag furniture i was selling on ebay at any time, so best be off and get it polished for him, catch you all later xx

32+5
BoY......... do you think i could get away with naming him 'BOY' !!

LunarSea · 17/01/2007 12:00

moss - no not Harry. It's on this list of Shakesperean boys' names , and on this one of the current top 100 . I reckon there are only about 5 names on both lists, and funnily enough one of those we've already used for ds.

YankeeFish · 17/01/2007 12:12

Callie - congratulations on Jordi, lovely name.

Muppet - Joaquin Phoenix would be the one for me as well, I don't know what it is - but he has the best bedroom eyes.

Chris
Oliver
Sebastian
Stephano
Toby
Valentine???

muppetisacat · 17/01/2007 12:20

Lunar - it's either Christopher, Frederick, Oliver or most probably Polonius...

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 12:20

CALLIE

Hope you spotted Muppet's update for you below.

I expressed a lot with DD when she was first born and I found a small electric pump the most effective method. I couldn't seem to get the milk out any other way...

LunarSea · 17/01/2007 12:22

Lol - it's on Moss' list, but not on muppets. And the one I've already got is an Oliver.

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 12:25

I've got 3 aboriginal australian names:

Adoni
Pier
Monti

No one likes Adoni, which is my fave (think Rosylily likes it) and DH hates Monti.

Eids - any aboriginal boys names you like in particular? I got those lists you linked me too ages ago but just feel really confused and indecisive when I look at them all!

3rdTriMossTer · 17/01/2007 12:26

Lunar is it Stephano, shortened to Stephan?

muppetisacat · 17/01/2007 12:29

It's Sebastian isn't it? is it? hmmm? is it?????

Jaysecond · 17/01/2007 12:29

Bet its Sebastian???

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:30

i only looked at girl's names sorry.

can't remember the site dh used to get dd1's name as hers does not come up on the site I linked to.

I like monti and pier - jsut had a quick squizz - what about Miki - the moon.... like that. Should have no prob with pronunciation although having to spell it his whole life... but that is the same for dd1.....

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:31

Darel - blue sky.... a lot of the boy names are place names which is hard ....

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:32

Moss - why not have Sarah instead of morag - same thing!!

Jaysecond · 17/01/2007 12:34

I quite like Trent for a boy, but as i live in Nottingham and the river Trent is here, not sure if its a wise move?????

LunarSea · 17/01/2007 12:37

no - you still haven't got it! Shall I spoil the illusion of being cultured and confess that it wasn't really chosen for it's Shakesperean connections, but originally suggested by ds because it's a character in Thomas the Tank Engine!!!!

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:38

jay - i love Chelsea as a girl's name - always have but I married a life long chelsea supporter!! Love the name Warrick for a boy but have a dh who went to Warrick university!!

being an ex teacher it is hard too for names.... but can honestly say - only ever meet/taught lovely Trents

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:40

Benedict my fav shakespearean name - right up there with Laertes.

eidsvold · 17/01/2007 12:41
