Possibly.

Jay, I'd go for the bigger stone it would be a real bummer if you got to 9lb 15oz wouldn't it? You could also ask you dh for the money need to 'fix you up again' after having pushed out a whopper. might make him think......

Betho, I wouldn't worry about bump size. I know that's easier said than done but if the midwives are happy then you can be too. It's your first isn't it? So you've got nice firm tummy muscles to hold your baby in. Me on the other hand.... I'm suprised the baby hasn't just fallen out already .I don't know how I compare to usual. No one has commented either way so I guess look 'normal'.

Rosy, what you're doing breathing wise sounds pretty much like hypnobirthing in principle anyway.

During the last labour the midwife was handed my birth plan and she threw it on the floor . I know this 'cos it's on film . A doula comes in very handy during labour because they can be your voice and make sure your wishes are adhered to.

Is anyone getting that really annoyong wee problem where you think you've finished, you stand up and find out that you ahven't actually because the baby's shifted and let some more out!!? Or is it just me? .

BOys tend to be more wriggly than girls in utero and this is certainly carried on once born. They have so much energy and charge around like loonies. My girls are happy to mostly sit and draw and play etc, except for dd2 who is semi wild anyway .

I'll get a card for Callie then and sign it from those want me to.

divastrop · 16/01/2007 13:35

right...ive forgotten evrything ive just read.

dolly-is there anybody else who can support your mum when it comes to talking to the doctors etc?

fox-i had diamorphine with ds1 and he slept for 4 days after birth.

i also remember i screamed and kicked every time i had to push which made it take twice as long.

i wiggled when delivering dd2,the mw said i was listening to my body cos she was slighly at an angle and my hip wiggling got her into the right position

i dont think my hands are big enough to write all the responses to peoples nosey questions on.'8 weeks.girl.no it wasnt a shock, yes i have got a telly and no i dont plan to have any more!'

now ive got to 7 months and baby has had a massive growth spurt(as predicted) i'm getting the 'you're blooming' comments.my councellor said it this morning so i said'yes, blooming fat!'

kitty-i think a card would be a nice idea .i hope everything is ok.would she be staying with the baby in scbu?im not sure what happens in those situations.

i was going to go to town before but dd2 fell asleep when i put her in her pushchair so i thought i'd have a rest while i can

31+6(girl)-i'm going to start counting down as from tomorrowin the hope it will seem nearer to the day!

divastrop · 16/01/2007 13:38

kitty-x posts.i feel like im desperate for a wee, then when i go hardly any comes out, then i go downstairs and sit down and need a change of underwear.

foxabout2pop · 16/01/2007 14:03

Kitty I get that feeling too. Must be the baby on the bladder or something.

Last night I woke a 2am for a wee, then couldn't get back to sleep (thinking about work) - in the 90 minutes I lay awake I had to pee three times! Where does it all come from, that's what I want to know - it must've been hours after I had drank anything!

Lunar - your birth with your DS sounds identical to my birth with DD. My first (DS) went on for days with on and off contractions, so I was quite grateful to be induced with DD - luckily I went into labour just as they were about to induce, so the induction just speeded up what was about to happen anyway. But like you I had an epi for that one.

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 14:09

Kitty - I reckon this one is definately a boy then. He's definately a lot wrigglier than ds (whose middle name ought to be Duracell, because he's inexhaustable) was at this stage. At times I'm convinced there's an Octopus in there, not a baby, because he(?) couldn't possibly kick that much with only two legs!

Help me out someone - if I've got to work right up to due date, and won't therefore get a lot of shopping time, what is the minimum I need to actually buy BEFORE baby arrives. Obviously have the basics like cot (and basket, and swinging crib) - though might need new mattresses - and blankets/sheets, etc. And still have the buggy from last time (here ) - we've got the carry cot bit for it too so it's ok for newborns, although with ds it was only a matter of weeks before he started preferring the "reclined, but can still see something other than sky" view from the buggy instead of lying flat on his back. But what else do we need before baby actually arrives - nappies, wipes....... etc

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 14:18

Diva lol you would need big hands!

Left hand: No it's not twins, yes I'm sure, due end of March, goin' off work end of Feb, no the nursery isn't decorated yet.

Right hand: No I'm not "getting rid of the pets"!

Middle finger: Yes it was planned but are you sure that's your business?

Foxy I get up quite a few times in the night for a wee, but with a chamber pot it's like having an upstairs loo and I can just go back to bed straight after

Kitty yes please sign a card to Callie for me

Jay go for the diamond! As it's my birthday shortly after I'm due hopefully dh will buy me something as well as baby stuff but I think a diamond might be pushing it! Possibly some Doctor Who DVDs though?

Oh yeah, I'm 30 weeks today!

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 14:20

Lunar x-posts, I'm afraid I don't know, although I think some hosi's won't even let you leave if you don't have a car seat so obvy that's a number 1 priority!

muppetisacat · 16/01/2007 14:34

Kitty - defo add my name please!

Foxy your labours sound like mine. That's why i'll be opting for the epidural asap again!

Lunar - v interetested in your buggy - not one i've seen. Am about the order mountain buggy urban this w/e but wonder whether yours would be better for me (especially as it's £100 cheaper!)
Does it fold easily - is it light? I have to walk our mad running away dog each day through forest or heathland - do you think it would survive and do you have to have the carrycot bit if you want to use it from newborn?

Sorry - lots of questions there!

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 14:46

Lunar, sounds like you have it all in hands. I'll tell you what I will have ready if that helps:
Me: Labour (For home birth)- socks,
t shirt ( actually it's usually whatever I happen to be wearing when it starts)
something to drink(gin!)

Me post birth- maternity pads (lovely)
disposable knickers(lovely again)
towel for the bed to catch leaks
more drink (wine this time
If I have to go to hospital I would also pack socks, pj's, money for phone, something to write thoughts in eg. diary, magazines, radio, clothes to come home in, stuff to wash with, LOTS AND LOTS OF IBUPROFEN AND PARACENTAMOL FOR DREADED AFTER PAINS

Baby-
Nappies
wipes
cotton wool
vests
sleepsuits
socks
hat
blanket

I have the hammock, blankets, prams, slings, swaddling socks and seat from before, but I do need to get a new first stage car seat 'cos I've just broken the other one.

If I think of other stuff I'll write it down.

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 14:49

muppet - yes it does fold easily. It was considered light 5-6 years ago - suspect that there might be lighter ones around now though. We've used it on snow, beaches, big hills, etc as well as across the muddy fields around home, and it's plenty durable enough for that (it's a proper all terrain buggy before people started making less strong lookalikes!). Technically it doesn't actually lie flat without the carry cot bit - but we only used that for about 8 weeks I think because the lie back position of the buggy is pretty well reclined.

Moss - still have the car seat too.

Piffle · 16/01/2007 14:54

Hey
I did the painting, it is odorless satin gloss, washes in water, not the best coverage but if HE wants me to do it, thems my terms.
it looks grand and all the furniture turned up despite me in my pregnant haze giving the Ikea man wrong directions
57 bloody items
Now building them is SO NOT my affair...
GREAT news got my glucose tolerance test back and it is FINE! They had me crapping myself because they screwed up a fasting sample with a non fasting sample.
Now I cna eat the 4kgs of sweets my ds brought me back from his trip to NZ with his dad over Xmas
Top tip for those suffering constipation
oranges, kiwifruit and soft eating licorice (availabel from Lakeland) rec serving is 3 pieces
I take 4 pieces 2 x a day and what a difference, plus it tastes GORGEOUS!

Piffle · 16/01/2007 14:55

agree re after pains - esp if this is your 2nd baby, drug free labour had to take co codamol for afterpains...
Took me right by surprise

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 16:17

yes, with the afterpains it was a revelation when the midwives told me last time to take the drugs (paracetamol/ibuprofen) every two hours afterwards WITHOUT FAIL. Boy did it make a difference. For the first time post birth I wasn't in toe curling, hideous agony everytime baby fed.

divastrop · 16/01/2007 16:44

my afterpains were unremarkable as i bottlfed, although i was in such a euphoric state after having dd2 i think somebody could've pulled all my teeth out and i wouldnt have noticed.

kitty-you must have a small bottom if you find disposable knickers wearable.i tend to stock up on tesco value big knickers or such like.and ive always found maternity pads have been longer when they need to be widerso make do with night-time sanitary towels instead.

im not even slightly organised yet

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 16:54

Kitty that list is really useful I have copied and pasted it into an email and sent it dh so he can see how unprepared we are!

Piffle if you need help with those sweeties you only have to ask

Oh I'm hot and bothered now and I'm here until eight. Still only one more late Tuesday to go after this one and then I'm on a "standard" 44.5 hour week... actually it will be even less as I'll be able to have hour long lunches... 42 hour weeks ahoy!

Now if I could just invent that teleportation device I'd have no commute either... I'd better get back in the lab!

Piffle · 16/01/2007 16:57

paper knickers
Well I never I just use the big maternity cotton knicks I've had all pregnancy and biff em all out after the use of pads has finished.
then dp will treat me to a splurge at figleaves or bravissimo and once again I will properly underweared
assuming I manage to get dressed each day that is

Oh I cannot wait to meet this little guy, I am SO excited

Piffle · 16/01/2007 16:59

Oh if anyone wants a britax rock a tot in FAB (used as spare for grandparents car, used about 20 x) blue check fabric
I can send it for postage
I need to get a maxi cosi for our travel system

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 17:22

Piffle, I'm interested as I need a ist stage seat. Does it have a hood? Actually I can probably look it up. Any idea how much postage would be? I'm not going to buy a new one .

Piffle · 16/01/2007 17:23

I'm fairly sure it has a hood!

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 17:38

diva/piffle - couldn't agree more about the knickers. Disposable paper ones last time had elastic like cheesewire - had to send dh out straight after to get big cotton knickers, much to his embarrasment, because I was in more pain from the d**n knickers than I had been from giving birth to ds! So it's a trip to the market for cheap granny knickers this time, and they can happily be binned afterwards!

If anyone is planning on going the disposable route - try a pair on first before you commit yourself to them!!!!

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 18:01

muppet - the buggy we've got is available much cheaper here . Not sure if you could get the carry cot bit from these people - but worth asking maybe?

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 18:20

Mossy, glad the list was useful, but it was not definitive!! Have you thought about:
Sheets for baby's bed
All in one for going out
cozytoes
A few outfits to get you started

I recommend baby gap newborn toweling socks. IME they are the only ones that stay on tiny feet.

Breast pads

hooded towel for baby (not necessary really, but nice)

sunshade for pram, actually scrap that, I think the sun's gone away forever .

i'll keep thinking

Piffle, let me know about the postage if you get a chance.

LunarSea · 16/01/2007 18:28

muppet - I think those people are the manufacturer. They're definately based in the same place anyway. Contact details for them are here

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 18:50

Kitty stop you're scaring me now!

Only messin' this sort of thing is useful. I am writing a list soon for dh as I think he's in denial a bit over just how much stuff we're gonna need for lo. Actually I think it's part of a larger denial that this baby's actually gonna change our lives

What's cozytoes?

As for knickers, a quick trip to Primark'll do me - big size 20 bulk pack of ten for about £5 or summat - sorted!

sexkittyinwaiting · 16/01/2007 18:57

Mossy, cozytoes are the zip up pram sleeping bag things. They keep small babies nice and snug. It can still be pretty nippy in March/April.
