Hello,

So couldn't see a January baby post (probably because no one is mad enough to POAS as early as me!)

Anyway, I thought I would start one (waves). I am 28, this will be DC#2 making my 4 year old DS a big brother which he has been so excited about becoming (we haven't told him yet though as very early days!) I am roughly around 4 weeks and we're not planning on telling anyone for ages so thought I would start a thread so I have someone to get excited with!

Please come and say hello! Xx

I was due a weigh in & iv put on nearly 4lbs in the last week. So 8lbs in total. I knew I was eating well as I'm not feeling so sick but yikes! Will try & be careful from now on. Mixed feelings about the scan next week. Someone had a scan this week didn't they?

Admarks · 11/08/2016 14:08

Im trying not to worry about the weight gain, but we all seem to be gaining about the same so that must be good.... For me, I'm fine with it as long as baby is healthy and growing normally! I will just have to try and work at getting back to pre-pregnancy weight next year (she says eating a pack of wini eggs).

I think Bella has her scan tomorrow?

Emz32 · 11/08/2016 14:21

Mini eggs! My favourite. Iv just demolished some malteasers 🤐 Somehow a leafy green salad just isn't quite as attractive. Really struggling with energy. Don't remember feeling this tired last time, maybe it's just running round after a 2 yr old this time. I should try not to worry. Hope the scan goes well Bella.

stealthbanana · 11/08/2016 14:38

I wouldn't worry about weight gain too much. My appetite has gone crazy the last couple of weeks - I assume there's a growth stage around about now and we need the calories, particularly if we've not put on much weight in the first 4 months. FYI I've never been weighed at any doctors appointments so I wouldn't read too much into the guidelines - clearly they don't bother too much unless you've expanded alarmingly between appointments 😂

Emz32 · 11/08/2016 14:57

I'm also hungry all the time. Glad it's not just me! I just want to eat. Iv had it mentioned a couple of times that I may have cervical scans as my son was premature but not seeing consultant until
I'm 21 weeks. Seems a bit late by then if there is a problem? I thought I'd see the consultant before the 20 week scan not after....

stealthbanana · 11/08/2016 16:23

Yep I'm a monster at the moment! I've bought a large box of those bounce balls in a vague attempt to make my snacking protein-ous. Can recommend the apple & cinnamon and the coconut lemon ones.

I also am having cervical length scans (for hypermobility) and I had the first one at 16w. If you're already close to 20w then maybe just hang on but if not I'd definitely push for an early scan (or pay for one privately) as I think if you need a cervical stitch it's best if it goes in before - certain point (22w I think??).

Emz32 · 11/08/2016 16:58

I haven't heard of bounce balls. Will have to have a look. I did think they were supposed to be done earlier. Thanks. Iv spoken to midwife team but the person I need to speak to has gone home so will call tomorrow. All else fails I'll go privately in the next town. Sometimes I get cross at how much you have to push. They just don't have the funds & if they can fob you off then they will.

stealthbanana · 11/08/2016 17:24

They're just protein balls. Taste less like cardboard than most protein bars. Nothing too exciting though!

Yes it sounds v difficult to always have to be pushing. One of the nice things about being private is that they just give you what you need. Definitely push for an answer - if they do the scan and your cervix is nice and long you can relax for a bit!

Emz32 · 11/08/2016 17:36

I'd love some piece of mind. Having been private recently for my missed miscarriage it was refreshing to tell the consultant my worries & to be taken seriously. I know you pay for it & if I could afford it & had local access then I'd go privately for this baby. I'm still scarred from my the birth of my DS. The birth itself was fine but the hospital was so short staffed that there was no support before & during labour. Someone magically appeared when I said I needed to push. The aftercare was poor as well. Taken me a long time to do it all again. Hoping different hospital, different experience. We will see. i am trying to relax, trying!

Bella1985 · 11/08/2016 19:13

Yes I have my scan tomorrow morning. Like you emz I have mixed feelings about it. I'm really excited at the prospect of seeing baby again but petrified of what they might find. I've also noticed that I have no idea what else will happen tomorrow regarding blood tests, urine tests etc, don't know what to expect so that's a bit unsettling. Thanks for the good luck!

Emz32 · 11/08/2016 19:26

From memory I don't think there's any bloods or urine or there wasn't for me last time. It was just the scan. However I do remember it taking ages so they can measure everything. The detail is amazing. I'm dragging my tired carcass off to yoga now. Hope you sleep ok & try not to worry too much x

Bella1985 · 12/08/2016 10:43

Scan went well, everything looked good Smile Had quite a palava to get all the measurements done, baby was curled up on its front so was difficult to see the heart from all angles and the diaphragm etc. Had to lie on my side, turn over, empty my bladder and in the end sonographer sent me to the cafe for chocolate and a little walk to encourage baby to turn over. Worked a treat and got the shots she needed to confirm everything looked fine. So far so good. So relieved!

Emz32 · 12/08/2016 10:54

Great news Bella. So pleased that it was all good news. Some babies are a little more shy than others. Did you find out the sex, think I remember you saying you were keeping it a surprise.

Bella1985 · 12/08/2016 11:04

No, the sonographer asked and we said we didn't want to know so she warned us when she was checking the legs and we both looked away! DH asked her if she saw what we're having and she said she didn't look as it might tempt us to ask her so she just focussed on the legs, which was nice of her! A part of me wants to know but the other part is really looking forward to the 'it's a boy/girl' announcement at birth!

Emz32 · 12/08/2016 11:08

With my DS I was adamant I didn't want to know. She asked 4 times if I was sure during & after the scan. I was glad I didn't find out. When DH announced we had a little boy it was a lovely moment & im hoping to do that again this time. Well, that's the plan anyway. I'd like DH to cut the cord but he really doesn't want to. He said it's a job for a professional. Funny creatures DHs!

stealthbanana · 12/08/2016 11:28

Great news bella!

I don't know how you can all stand not knowing the sex - I want to know EVERYTHING about this little thing inside me ASAP! We found out at 11w via our blood screens we were having a boy & it made it so much more real for me.

Admarks · 12/08/2016 18:43

Great news Bella, glad all is well! I hope I manage to hold out like you about not finding out the sex next week!!

LucySB123 · 12/08/2016 18:46

Great news bella glad that all is well. I can't wait for my scan (2 very long weeks!). We are not finding out the gender either. Not that fussed. If bubba happens to be a boy then he can be in DD's pink stuff for a few weeks while I sort out the wardrobe Grin.

Emz32 · 13/08/2016 10:09

I like the surprise plus we didn't know what DS was so new baby clothes were neutral for him. Can't wait to dig it all out again. Tried calling anti natal clinic to ask about cervical scans. Called the number for 1hr 30 & it just rang out with an automated message saying call back. Gave up. Husbands on board with why I want it done & will help me push at 20 week scan & make sure they do it then. Going bra shopping after scan & may get a few bits then. Waiting until after scan & we know everything's ok. We could have found out sex at 12 weeks but I wasn't tempted then. Hopefully won't be tempted at scan!

stealthbanana · 14/08/2016 14:22

Good work emz. Should be easy for them to pull out the dildocam at the scan and do the cervical length scan 😂

Question - is anyone planning a babymoon last-gasp type holiday? We are planning on having a week off in October - I'll be 29 weeks. What I really want to do is go somewhere properly lush like the Maldives, but am guessing that's not v sensible in terms of being close to hospital if something goes wrong. Any ideas?

Emz32 · 14/08/2016 17:00

I'm so well acquainted with the dildo cam that it doesn't phase me too much... Although I'm not sure that's a good thing!! Ha ha ha.

We went away for a long weekend in the UK before DS but that wasn't sunny (December!). We are going away with family to France in mid sept. I'm going to be so bored visiting the vineyards.... 😩🍾 but I'm already worrying about hospitals. I will be 25 weeks so hopefully everything will be fine. We are driving over. I'd prefer it was the Maldives or Seychelles. Hoping I might be able to go Spring next year for my 30 & leave 2 DC with grandparents 🤔

Emz32 · 15/08/2016 14:04

Stealth a friend want to Channel Islands for a pre-baby holiday. They enjoyed it & it wasn't too far. Plenty of pregnant mums do go on holiday. What about Europe? Today's hotter than I realised! Might have got a bit of sunburn sitting outside for 45 minutes at lunchtime.

MagpieCursedTea · 15/08/2016 20:16

I lost my place on the thread!
I can't believe how quickly time is going.
Glad the scan went well Bella despite what sound like your baby's attempts to make it difficult Grin
I had my scan today, everything is looking good and we're having another boy. I really enjoyed telling DS about his brother. He knows there's a baby but I think being able to say brother adds something to it for him. It'll probably still be a shock to the poor lad when there's an actual baby in the house.

Bella1985 · 15/08/2016 20:56

Glad to hear things went well magpie Smile congrats on the little boy news!
I had a moment on the weekend when I started to despair that I was only half way and another 20 weeks to go, but now I've started looking at my diary and seeing events and work stuff I have to do on weekends, there really isn't much time left! I think it's going to fly by! There seems to be more mw appointments in the next stage too.

stealth we're not going away (although it sounds like a lovely idea) but I would echo Emz on europe, if you're not up for venturing too far away. We went to fuerteventura in March where bambino may have been conceived! and it was lovely, warm and sunny but not too hot and the level of cleanliness and english proficiency good. It was quite a windy island with changeable weather so perhaps its not what you're looking for, but I wouldn't have any reservations going to that sort of destination at 29 weeks.

Emz32 · 15/08/2016 21:02

Great news on the scan Magpie. I'm nervously awaiting ours on Wednesday. It is going really quickly. Can't quite believe I'm halfway (hopefully).
