Hello,

So couldn't see a January baby post (probably because no one is mad enough to POAS as early as me!)

Anyway, I thought I would start one (waves). I am 28, this will be DC#2 making my 4 year old DS a big brother which he has been so excited about becoming (we haven't told him yet though as very early days!) I am roughly around 4 weeks and we're not planning on telling anyone for ages so thought I would start a thread so I have someone to get excited with!

Please come and say hello! Xx

I think good mat wear tries to flatter & accentuate the bump therefore you will look "bigger" but it's just more flattering. That's the hope anyway. People can be so rude & judgemental. I had someone tell me I only looked 6 months when I was 8 months (& had my son 2 weeks later!!) and another woman in asda ask me really loudly how I was out of the house with such a new baby (he was 3 months but tiny due to being prem). Everyone turned to stare. Oh and another lady in asda tell my sister (who id left with DS whilst I went to another aisle) why wasn't my baby covered with a blanket (he was 4 months old & it was the middle of summer. He was plenty warm enough when I touched the back of his neck. My sister was young & so embarrassed. Everyone has their opinions & it's so intimidating when you are a new mum & not sure what you doing. (Not that I know much more being a 2nd time mum!!)

MagpieCursedTea · 03/08/2016 10:41

No idea why anyone thinks it's okay to comment on the size of a woman's bump or question why her baby is or isn't wearing something. It's such an odd thing to do!

I found out yesterday that you can get coat extenders to use in pregnancy and also after baby is born if you've got them in a carrier. That should save a bit of money!

LucySB123 · 03/08/2016 11:57

I'm despairing because it's early for mat clothes compared to DD1. I checked my HR folder and I informed work the last time at 23+6!! Shock. And my manager then commented that he couldn't guess. This time I'm hoping I get to past my 21 wk scan in 3.5wks without anyone "guessing" or asking but it's going to take a lot of clever dressing.

Anyway, I'm feeling really sorry for myself at the moment. I have a summer cold and a tickly cough and being reminded about the bit of pregnancy i do not like -- the fact that I can't take anything except paracetamol. having this cough on top of having to wee at night means I'm not getting sleep at all. Angry

LucySB123 · 03/08/2016 12:22

btw, second/third/etc time mums, when do you tell DC1 about new baby. I am thinking when it's really obvious - like in November. My DD1 has been an only child for such a long time 3y+, she gets really possessive, esp about DH (even with me!). We are going to have grandparents help the first 3 months so hopefully she won't feel attention has been diverted.

Emz32 · 03/08/2016 12:39

We told DS after the 12 week scan. We haven't made a big thing about it really, we just talk about the baby in mummy's tummy. He's 2yrs 5 months so although he says baby & knows what a baby is, I don't think he understands. We figured we should tell him & talk to him about it as he would pick up on it from others talking to us. But no idea if this is the best way. We will soon find out. I think others have suggested a doll that's their baby & books that talk about it. Might get DS a doll later on. I'm always surprised at how random strangers feel the need to comment & judge. I told work with DS at 10 weeks. I didn't want to but was so ill & it was a tiny family run company (just me, boss & 2 others), I had a good relationship with boss & he was great. I also thought that you only claim paid time off for scans & midwife etc if you have informed work. Is that not right? My new boss obviously knows this time as he was at conception (my DH). 😋

Defo going to look into coat extenders. Winter coats seem so far away but it'll be here before we know it. Going to France in September & we are driving. Not sure how stressful that's going to be with me uncomfortable & DS not in nappies anymore 🙈 Hopefully our bladders will be in sync otherwise DH will go nuts!

LucySB123 · 03/08/2016 13:14

re strangers. I once had an older lady (maybe 50y+) tell me off because my DD was wearing, on her own accord, sunglasses in moderately cloudy weather. Apparently it will "spoil her eyes". I told the lady that DD will be fine but she kept shouting at me even as we walked away. Crazy.

When we go on long drives I still put pull up pants on DD (one less thing to stress about!). Just in case there is convenient lay-bys to stop at.

LucySB123 · 03/08/2016 13:15

*NO convenient lay-bys

Emz32 · 03/08/2016 13:34

Glad it's not just me with weird stranger encounters. Great idea on pull ups. Thanks Lucy. I have just gone straight to pants as I wanted him to feel the difference. But for long journeys that's a good idea. Just in case of sleep etc. Can you get grown up pulls ups for pregnant women 🙊

MagpieCursedTea · 03/08/2016 14:27

We told DS after the 12 week scan too. He's 2 years and 9 months, he also talks about the baby in Mammy's tummy and kisses the bump but I'm not sure he quite understands that there'll be an actual baby. It's such a long way off for him though that it's just getting him used to the idea.

Bella1985 · 03/08/2016 16:19

Omg thanks for all the comments! I love this forum, it really helps having a support group like this. I like how you described it emz as flattering the bump and I guess, from all these random experiences you've all had with strangers, people will have an opinion whatever my size so maybe I should get over it, wear the dress and have a big laugh and "yes I'm having a huge baby" retort at the ready for when anyone asks! I do love the way my bump looks in the dress...Grin

magpie I'll look in to the coat extenders thing, thanks! there's so much I need to learn!

My almost 4 yr old niece keeps asking if my baby is out yet, christmas feels like a very long time for her...

Emz32 · 03/08/2016 17:18

I think we should celebrate the amazing thing our body is doing & wear our bumps proudly (she says wearing baggy clothes!)

My DS told me this morning that the baby will come in the post. I wish it was that easy. Obviously seen me on Amazon too much 😂

Bella1985 · 06/08/2016 14:04

Hope you're all doing well! Struggled with a summer cold this week but I'm feeling better today, so much so I've spent the morning cleaning the house, vaccum packing clothes that don't fit anymore (but I want to keep), dusting and washing clothes. I feel like a domestic goddess! An ice cold squash out in the sun now to relax... Hope you're all feeling well and enjoying the sunshine Smile

LucySB123 · 07/08/2016 17:41

bella I emphatise! My summer cold has shifted but I still have a lingering dry cough which is really irritating and I can't take anything for it!
Some of us must be approaching 20wks, anyone having the anomaly scan soon?
Hope everyone's been enjoying the weather. I'm quite liking the second trimester. I'm feeling much better and more energetic. And while bump is growing I'm not feeling huge yet. How's everyone feeling?

Admarks · 07/08/2016 18:32

Im another one with a summer cold - I can't seem to shift it! Im pleased we all seem to be feeling a bit better for the second trimester- although I'm slightly jealous of the extra energy that people are reporting. I want some! I had a two day working week last week and have taken to an afternoon nap- a full week at work will be hard!!

Yes, there must be some 20 week scans coming up this week. I know that there are a few of us with scans next week. Who is planning on finding out the sex- we are trying to hold out for a surprise!!

Bella1985 · 07/08/2016 19:09

I'll be 20 weeks o friday and have my scan first thing fri morning. Can't wait! Hope everything will be fine. We're going to stick with a surprise as its our first baby.

Admarks · 07/08/2016 20:52

Good luck on Friday Bella! I think have the same due date but we have to wait till the middle of next week (17th) for our scan....

Emz32 · 08/08/2016 09:19

I'm feeling much better sickness wise but so tired! I haven't been sleeping well & thought it was the pregnancy but realised that it was me subconsciously worrying about DS. He had routine surgery on Friday & had to put under. It was a traumatic day for me & DH, DS just took it all in his stride! Glad it's over now. I'm 19 weeks today with scan on 17th. Feel very nervous about it. Iv had more scans with bad news that good news which doesn't help! Hopefully we will all have good news & see our little babies bouncing around. DH wants to find out the sex but I don't. I figure iv got the deciding vote.... 😎 Last few days iv had to have an afternoon nap but hoping that's just because life's been so busy recently.

Admarks · 08/08/2016 18:41

Aww, hope DS is OK Emz and you get good news with your scan on 17th!!
Ps - I agree you should get the deciding vote on finding out the sex!!

Bella1985 · 09/08/2016 08:00

Hope DS is recovering well emz. DH has decided that I have the 60% vote in any decisions as its my body so totally agree - you choose if you want to find out or not! I went to bed at 9.30 last night...hope it isn't going to be this bad for the next 5 months- is it too early to start mat leave now?! Smile

Emz32 · 09/08/2016 09:04

Thanks guys. He's well recovered & doesn't seem at all bothered! He has however found a new love for the Cars film. I'm just pleased we don't have to watch more Peppa! We will be holding out for a surprise then ☺️

Emz32 · 09/08/2016 09:09

Oh and I was woken at 6.30 with the most incredible leg cramp! Iv never had it before. My legs really sore now. Is this normal?

LucySB123 · 09/08/2016 14:32

emz i heard it's more common in pregnancy although i have not experienced it myself.
Work is getting busier and I get increasingly frustrated and easily annoyed. Having to commute everyday on the train and tube does not help. While I am tempted to not bother and start Mat Leave early (legally can from end Oct) i know that whatever time I take now means I'll have less time with baby. sigh
My in laws are staying for 2 weeks and we've been eating out more regularly than usual. I've managed to pile on 2 pounds this week although I reckon this is more pud than bub Grin What's everyone's weight gain been like?

Bella1985 · 10/08/2016 07:44

I've gained 7lb total, which doesn't sound too bad, but its all gone on in the last 7 weeks. Due to my bmi MW said I should be aiming for 0.5lb a week so I've basically put double on Blush Now that food isn't making me feel sick it's really hard not to go wild, adding in the increased hunger, it's difficult to work out what a normal amount of food is reasonable! Will see if they mention it at the 20week scan...

Haven't had leg cramp but this lying on one side business has made me quite restless at night, I toss and turn much more than usual, which is keeping me up at night. So sleepy during the day as a result!

Emz32 · 10/08/2016 09:27

I'm quite restless too. Never been a back sleeper but it seems that's the only position that's comfy. Oops. Had a bit of a hormonal meltdown lastnight. Tears & ranting. Poor DH didn't know what to do & laughed, (I was being completely irrational) which made it all worse. So tired now. Cringing as I think about it. Pregnancy really does turn you upside down!

Iv put on 5lbs so far but lost 1 last week so only 4. Id lost 8lbs at this point with DS so I'm feeling much better this time. Just about enjoying food now. They do make you worry about everything these days

Admarks · 11/08/2016 07:55

I've gained 10lbs since April Blush. This was mainly in the first trimester as eating rubbish seemed to help with the nausea! Weight gained seems to have slowed down though...!

Yes to the restless sleeping! My husband is on nights this week so it's been nice not worrying about waking him up too (ive accepted that this is as good as my sleeping will be for a long time). I feel a bit bad for OH as he is a light sleeper at the best of times and is currently having some issues with joint pain and limb swelling which is worse at night (doctors are at a loss ) - I feel it will be a grumpy few months until our spare bedroom is decorated!!

Have a good day ladies!
