Wow! Thread number three.

Scan went really well, dates spot on (12+1). Baby fine and moving all over the place so was hard to get a decent picture but did get a couple. Just went to see MIL and she's really happy so that's good.
Just have to wait for blood results, said I'll get a letter in the post or phone call by tomorrow evening if something is wrong. Hopefully everything will be ok with those.

INeedNewShoes · 04/05/2016 10:18

Congratulations bobcat Smile

It must be such a relief to have a had a good 12-week scan.

mrsdane · 04/05/2016 10:18

Great news bob, hope everyone else's go well today.

Has anyone else been so hungry in the night (3.30am) they've had to reach for the nearest item of food and it just so happened to be a bar of Dairy Milk? I feel like a bad person.... Blush

Bollyroo · 04/05/2016 10:40

What a relief bob!

Thanks Thurlow and Spin. I was worried that I might come across as demanding if I insisted on not having the tests. If it was diagnostic it might be a different matter and harmony is just too expensive.

Glad to hear headaches are just another symptom... Smile jeez, how many more things are going to launch themselves at us?!

INeedNewShoes · 04/05/2016 10:45

Mrsdane I had a 1am bowl of cereal last week.

I've gone off chocolate altogether with being pregnant. It's just bloody weird - usually I'll happily scoff a 100g bar all at once and now I can't bear the thought of it!

mrsdane · 04/05/2016 11:15

INeedNewShoes I've had the same thing - not in the least bit bothered by it anymore. But in the middle of the night, it got me back to sleep!

It's so reassuring to hear of everyone's similar experiences!

Thurlow · 04/05/2016 11:18

Mrsdane, I always seem to wake up about 4am to pee, and I have to eat otherwise I can't get back to sleep!

smellsofelderberries · 04/05/2016 12:11

I might be on progesterone; im on the PRISM trial but you continue with that until 16 weeks and I can't wait to be done! I think I have enough for another 3.5 weeks, so I will definitely fee confident spotting them at that point. Of course I may be on the placebo in which case it won't matter!

Yay bobcat!! So happy for you.

Bolly, how come you've declined the blood tests? Will you just wait for the 20 weeks scan until they could give you more information?

Yes, this time tomorrow we'll be at our scan. I'm actually looking forward to it? Feels a little foolhardy but based on gut feeling at the moment I will be really shocked if something has gone wrong.

smellsofelderberries · 04/05/2016 12:12

Oh gosh, sorry about all the typos above! 🙈

Fedupithink · 04/05/2016 12:15

Yay congratulations Bob!!! Such happy news!

CakeAndChocolate · 04/05/2016 12:16

great news bob!

ElleSarcasmo · 04/05/2016 13:12

Great news on the scan Bob

Fuzzywuzzy I am 10+1 today so just behind you! My 12 week scan isn't for 2 weeks-do you have a date for yours yet?

I have to have something to eat when I wake up for the loo too Thurlow! Usually 4-5am, I'll have a banana and then another one as soon as I wake up. I definitely feel more sick if I miss either banana. I'm too afraid to stop now!

Bollyroo · 04/05/2016 14:28

Smells, the main reason is that this is my 5th pregnancy (1st beyond 12wks) and I'm way too tender to be told I'm high risk when it might not be the case. The tests are only a screening so you only get a risk rating rather than a diagnosed yes/no. My approach this time is "no stress". Much more concerned about the viability. Besides I'm sure that knowing about potential abnormalities is not going to help at this stage. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. It's totally a personal choice. Good luck tomorrow!

goldfinch01 · 04/05/2016 15:55

Terrible booking in appointment today. Sorry for long post need to let off steam!

Arrived at hospital this morning. They had no record of me and accused me of having written the day/time down wrongly. They then found a post it note with my details on and over an hour later got one of the managers in the office to do my booking appointment. Couldn't do blood tests as she wasn't qualified. She kept referring to "government targets" and "the government tells us we have to do x" when explaining everything.

We clashed when she went through appointment timeline and informed me someone would be visiting me at home after baby was born. I mentioned I'd prefer to come to gp/hospital etc for appointments. She replied it was a legal requirement that they visit your home. I told her it was not. She told me they would turn up anyway. I said they would not be let in. She told me I had to let them in. I told her I did not. Etc. I eventually suggested we agree to disagree. Im an easy-going person but I object to being accused of being a child abusing law breaker at my booking in appointment! Sad Angry

Does anyone have any experience of hiring a private midwife alongside NHS care? I hope this was a one off but It feels very stressful to leave to chance who I see each time on the NHS.

fuzzywuzzy · 04/05/2016 16:05

Elle my 12 week scan is on the 23rd, I also have a scan next Monday (not an NHS one), and booking in appointment tomorrow.

I feel like the 10 weeks has dragged but then looking back it's actually flown, there's only seven months to go eeeek!😱

fuzzywuzzy · 04/05/2016 16:10

Goldfinch, that sounds really terrible. Why were they insisting on the home appointments?

I know after baby is born they do come to do the heel prick test on baby and check baby's weight and to check on you to make sure stitches etc are healing and your ok. The community midwife does that. Think there's about three visits in all then they hand you over to the HV's. I stopped going go the HV with second DD, didn't see any point to it they weren't helpful & DD was fine.

FuzzyOwl · 04/05/2016 16:10

Great news bobcat.

Awful appointment goldfinch. I don't have experience about a private midwife but if nobody else on here has I am sure if you start a new thread you will get lots of responses.

AyeAmarok · 04/05/2016 16:21

Bloody hell Goldfinch, what a disaster Sad

I cannot believe they had an office manager do your booking in instead of a midwife. The booking in is meant to reassure you, could this possibly have been less so?

I'm not one to jump to complaining officially, but I think in this case you will have to. What a mess.

Poor you, truly. I think you should complain and ask them to start the whole process again with someone qualified. That's shocking.

smellsofelderberries · 04/05/2016 16:28

Goldfinch that's terrible!! Poor you having to deal with that. You are completely right though, they have no such law and she's talking bullocks. Like a PP suggested, I would complain to PALS and then request someone else redo my booking. Not the sort of stress you need!

Bolly that's interesting and so glad you're finally having a successful pregnancy! Smile

Thurlow · 04/05/2016 16:50

Goldfinch - complain, complain, complain. Write to PALS while it is all still fresh in your mind.

Though hopefully this was just an idiot of a manager who doesn't know anything and the midwives will be much nicer.

Fedupithink · 04/05/2016 17:23

Goldfinch that's awful. With the home appointment I think it does depend on area, I'm in Kent and I was told at my booking appointment that there would be a home visit pre-birth which I think is just to get people engaged with the HV service?

almondbutter · 04/05/2016 17:37

Goldfinch, poor lass -- can't believe that happened. I'd complain: how are you supposed to have any confidence in their maternity services after that. Hope it's better from here on in.

goldfinch01 · 04/05/2016 17:59

Thank you all, steam has now stopped coming out of my ears. I've written everything down and will sleep on it as to whether or not to complain.

I couldn't believe it when she said it was the law that someone comes to your home whether you like it or not. As it happens, my house is immaculate and I certainly have nothing to hide, but she made me feel like a criminal trying to hide something and then she just would not let it go!

I am trying to be charitable and put it down to the fact that she is a manager and doesn't normally do booking appointments, and didn't really know what she was talking about with a few things. Even so, I came out feeling really shaken and upset and didn't get to ask some of the questions I wanted to.

I have my 12 week scan next week so am looking forward to that and am focussing on (read desperately hoping for) a good experience then.

Thank you FuzzyOwl, good idea to start a new thread re private midwives.

On a happy note, I have literally just had my harmony test results back- all clear and it's a girl Grin. Phew what a day!

Fedupithink · 04/05/2016 18:05

Oh wow!! Congratulations Goldfinch the first gender reveal!! Flowers and Chocolate for you to celebrate!!

CakeAndChocolate · 04/05/2016 18:10

Goldfinch that's really awful "care" on their part, I'm glad you've written it all down so you can decide whether or not to take it further.

And big congrats on having a little girl (and good Harmony results obviously!)
