Ineed so sorry to hear your news Flowers

Jam how many weeks are you? I have a little bump too and only 11+3 Confused

Copper we told my parents early as we see them a lot. Also a few people who I would want support from if I had a mc, like my sister and close friends. I think we will tell the rest of the family after the 12 week scan and I will tell work then too.

mrsdane · 13/05/2016 08:56

Jam I know exactly what you mean - I'm fine telling colleagues but we've hardly told any friends yet at all. I suppose its because I've not seen them in person and I'd rather do it face to face than over the phone/text/email etc.

I'm 14 weeks today and definitely getting the impression of a bump. I've gone for tights above the bump today - such a strong look!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 13/05/2016 09:01

copper I totally understand about making a big "announcement" I told a couple of close colleagues at work by telling them I had a photo to show them (my 12w one) but that won't really work for you - but it did at least avoid me having to say the words. I'm now hoping that the gossip will spread at work so I won't actually have to tell loads of people myself (I'm such a wimp!)

AlbusPercival · 13/05/2016 11:17

Any of you have any experience of bump bands?

On my run this morning, my tummy was pulling a bit, the same way my boobs might if I wasnt wearing a sports bra if that makes sense.

Would a bump band help?

Fedupithink · 13/05/2016 11:52

I've no experience Albus but I have read good things about them, almost like a compression garment rather than the cotton/elastic ones you get for over or under your clothes I think.

I've found a buggy-fit class locally for after baby is here (hopefully) and they recommend using them then.

smellsofelderberries · 13/05/2016 12:23

Just spoke to the job centre and found out I can start maternity allowance from late August! Which means I only have to work for another 14 weeks if I want Shock can't quite believe it.

My sister had one of those Albus, for post birth, and found it a very supportive thing and loved wearing it. Not sure if she used it during pregnancy though- have you tried on a bella band from Mothercare?

Anyone else struggling with this stage? I'm feeling much better physically, except for being bloated, and can't feel baby moving yet so it's this weird sort of thing where I am going about my day as normal and then remember there's a baby in there! Found the sickness of the first tri so reassuring by comparison. Seriously temped by a Doppler right now, but only 18 days until my midwife appointment and I can hear the heartbeat again.

Fedupithink · 13/05/2016 13:39

I am Smells I keep forgetting then remembering and feeling bad I forgot!

I can't wait until we have the reassurance of movement.

almondbutter · 13/05/2016 13:44

For those going on holiday soon and still vomiting (15+2 today so should be getting some relief soon, right?) I'd really recommend taking a box of cereal bars or something with you or buying when you arrive. Have been road tripping in America this week and have found the gap between puking at 7 and getting myself to breakfast restaurant/shop has really wrung me out. Yesterday in this funky coffee place in Philly my friend made me sit down because I was pouring sweat and had gone sheet white from the effort of a whole two minute walk.

AlbusPercival · 13/05/2016 14:09

Completely agree smells, midwife next Thur, desperate to hear a healthy heartbeat

AyeAmarok · 13/05/2016 15:40

smellsofelderberries Yes I'm feeling quite worried about this stage TBH. Going 8 weeks between scan and the FAS scan seems like a lifetime (twice as long as I've known!) and anything can happen in the meantime.

I'm tempted by the doppler too. I wonder how long I can resist for.

Albus I will probably also need to get a bump support (all being well) for exercise later on. I have heard they do make a huge difference and the support is very noticeable (and relieving) although I worry the straps would cause chaffing but I'm sure they've thought of that!

Jamjar12 · 13/05/2016 16:33

I'm 12+1 Elle. I keep getting comments from people so it's pretty obvious. It's funny that so many younger students are just oblivious though, I wonder how far I can get before they realise...

I needed the first scan photo we had at 7 weeks to tell the people I told first. Then I'm telling friends with the 12 week photo. No idea how you just say it without a prop! Err, I'm like errr kinda pregnant? Let us know how it goes!

I would highly recommend having the travel sickness bands on each wrist. I bought them real cheap off amazon and although I look like I'm an extra in a fitness DVD, they've been great so far!

coppergrey · 13/05/2016 16:55

We have an 8 week scan photo so will definitely be using that, Jam... can imagine I'd be so awkward without some kind of prompt!

We've decided to go for it and tell the family when we see them over the weekend. I'm also going to have to tell my absolutely clueless best friend... despite us seeing each other once a week for dinner and me going from having at least two G&Ts/a glass of wine to never drinking ever, she's just text to say I 'better be drinking' on Monday at her birthday dinner!

I don't want to take focus from her birthday by telling her on Monday so will have to tell her when I see her tomorrow, before the family. Aaahhh, the politics of telling people! Can't wait for everyone to just know!

tiredmumrighthere · 13/05/2016 17:19

I don't do the whole announcement thingConfused we told immediate family and friends pretty much when we found out (I'm no good at keeping things) plus I felt I needed to explain to people why I looked so shitty Grin then there was the day I went on a spa day with friends and there friends and couldn't use steam room sauna ect so they asked ."are you pregnant" and I can't lie so was like "yep" we announced it on fb over the weekend for all the rest of family, friends ect!

I'm kind of a laid back person when it comes to pregnancy, I'm not worried/scared ect about waiting for next scan for reassurance, I just think what's meant to be will be, but I think i have that outlook because this is my 5th baby, but then saying that I've thought the same with every pregnancy! I don't take folic acid when pregnant because I'm useless at remembering to take it (life's pretty hectic here) they didn't have it years ago so why try pressure you into taking it now!

On other notes, I'm still feeling rather nauseas 80% of the time and my energy is still zero! I think my age is affecting these symptoms as I don't remember feeling this rough with my last and didn't suffer with Ms at all with first 3 ShockI Put it down to different partner Grin

AlbusPercival · 13/05/2016 18:33

Both Wednesday and today I have worked from home.

Both days it's got to 4-5 pm and I've been throwing up.

Only threw up twice in whole first trimester

Weird

almondbutter · 13/05/2016 19:27

Albus my throwing up has changed from hormone driven to reflux driven -- are you having reflux? Have found Horlicks/other milky drinks good, otherwise my first couple of pukes of the day tend to be painful and almost all acid, which has been hurting my throat.

FuzzyOwl · 13/05/2016 20:24

Lovely Friday evening for going out and socialising, or having a nice early night. Definitely the latter here for me!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 13/05/2016 20:49

Ladies I'm not really sure how to say this so I'm just going to blurt it out... I've got a brain tumour. So not the best news I could have had. I've been in hospital all week, came home last night. Currently waiting for neuro oncology to meet and discuss my scans to decide what happens next. Tuesday seems forever away!!! Anyway that's why I've gone quiet!

FuzzyOwl · 13/05/2016 20:53

Thinking of you LittleGrey. Flowers

needanewjob · 13/05/2016 20:55

Oh crikey littlegrey I'm not sure what to say other than we are here if you need to vent/cry! Do they know what kind of tumour?

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 13/05/2016 20:59

needanewjob they know it's low grade which is good news, but I don't know anything more at this stage. I'm guessing they're going to want to do a biopsy sometime soon to find out more! Anyway I just thought I'd put it out there as I may well need some support in the coming weeks and months!

CakeAndChocolate · 13/05/2016 21:28

Thinking of you littlegrey we're all here to support you however we can Flowers

coppergrey · 13/05/2016 21:37

Oh LittleGrey, that is some huge news to be dealing with. Absolutely here for whatever support we can offer.

almondbutter · 13/05/2016 21:38

LittleGrey what a terrible shock for you, lots of love and thoughts with you

AyeAmarok · 13/05/2016 22:22

LittleGrey What a terrible shock. And what a difficult time to have to deal with it on top of everything else.

This thread will always be here with people passing by when you need to chat. X

tiredmumrighthere · 13/05/2016 22:41

Oh littlegrey hope all goes well with scans, best of luck to you Flowers
