So sorry to hear that Shared. What an awful thing to go through. My thoughts are with you x

AyeAmarok · 29/04/2016 02:51

So sorry to hear what's happened Shared, thinking of you. Flowers

Spottyladybird · 29/04/2016 05:24

So sorry shred.

I seem to have picked up a tummy bug. Been on and off the toilet since yesterday afternoon. Really worried about baby.

Do you think I should see gp? Normally wouldn't for something like this.

spotty have you had your booking-in with the mw? could you ring them? I'm not sure the dr would be able to do anything or even reassure you very much. You might be more comfortable at home, close to the toilet! make sure you drink plenty, hope you feel better soon.

Spottyladybird · 29/04/2016 06:30

Yep had my booking in appointment, scan is next week. Just feeling paranoid I suppose!

CakeAndChocolate · 29/04/2016 07:07

I think the risk to baby with tummy bugs/food poisoning is dehydration so if you are managing to keep drinking (and it is staying in) then hopefully you'll be ok. No harm in ringing the doctor though if you are worried. You could just ask for a call back if you feel it doesn't warrant an appointment. Hope you start to feel better soon.

INeedNewShoes · 29/04/2016 07:13

I think Spotty that it's worth and talking to your midwife. Most tummy bugs are things that won't affect the baby I think, but I believe there's a blood test that you can have that would test for the five bugs that are more problematic in pregnancy. Even if you have one of those there are treatments for them.

I don't know much about it but read up earlier this week as my stomach was weird earlier. I've got my booking in appointment this morning so I'll mention it to my midwife.

tiredmumrighthere · 29/04/2016 07:58

Spotty-always best to just speak with your midwife/doctor and let them know about things like this, especially when it's this early in pregnancy x

Well last night ended up with me pulling the duvet off the bed and bringing it downstairs with me on the sofa, thats how bad the snoring was Angry

Also my little one (who's almost two)was coughing her little heart up Sad and calling out to me (funny how they never call daddy) so I had to get her back off to sleep.

So yeah last night was pretty much a disaster for me, Hope you all had a better sleep x

Fedupithink · 29/04/2016 08:00

Oh no, hope you feel better soon Spotty

I woke up at 4.30 and spent a good hour worrying about the fact that they only give you a risk rating for the combined screening not a definitive yes or no. Is anyone else concerned about this? I haven't had mine yet, will be done at the scan next week but it's already playing on my mind that someone has to be the 1 in 1 in 10,000 or whatever.

DH thinks I've gone mad.

ElleSarcasmo · 29/04/2016 08:14

Oh Shared I'm so sorry to hear that Sad. I can't even imagine how you must be feeling. Thinking of you and your DH Flowers

Beelzebubble · 29/04/2016 08:45

Just catching up....shared I'm so sorry to read your news. I hope you and your partner find the strength to get thorough this xxx

Yep, I get this. Depending on the balance between your level of worry / fullness of wallet / desire not to have a baby with Down's, you could get a Harmony test (which is a definite yes/no, but not available on the NHS - though they are talking about it I think).

Spindelina · 29/04/2016 09:27

For my scan next week, we need DD to be picked up from nursery by a neighbour whose DD also goes there. We did a trial run yesterday - both girls in the back of the car, then back to neighbours for tea. My DD had hurt herself (grazed knee - nothing serious), so was really clingy and didn't want to go in the car, so she was howling. The something upset the other little girl, so she was howling too. Bodes well!

smellsofelderberries · 29/04/2016 09:32

Ugh, +1 on the rubbish nights sleep. I had a dream that a nurse diagnosed me with NK cells and said my body would just kill every baby I conceive. Woke up to wee, finally got back off to have a dream about my twelve week scan that went really badly. So hard to put it out of your mind, kind of feel like my subconscious is trying to prepare me for something Sad

Spottyladybird · 29/04/2016 09:57

My DH is an A&E nurse so he spoke to a Dr at work who said if the diarrhoea continues I should go up there but to keep eating and drinking.

Wondering if anyone else found their 12 week scan a bit like being in a sausage factory on a conveyor belt? The hospital (central London) was rammed and it was the day after the strikes, so maybe that's why the whole thing felt very hurried. The sonographer was clearly bored and was a bit snappy, rushing through the whole thing. As soon as we saw a bit of movement she moved on to the next thing, only gave us a moment of heartbeat and it just generally seemed like she'd forgotten that while it's a record keeping and assessment exercise for her, it's a really special thing for parents, especially when they've not seen the baby before. I don't think she did a bad job of scanning but her bedside manner was zero. Going to go for a private scan soon to have a bit more wriggle watching, I think.

FuzzyOwl · 29/04/2016 10:25

Hope you feel better soon spotty. I had a d&v bug in early pregnancy and everything is fine but I always believe in getting checked out if you are worried.

Yes Fedup but unless you have an invade test you won't know as I think the Harmony test just gives you greater odds. If it is Edwards' or Patau though, it should be picked up at your 20 week scan (and so should Down's). I know that would still be horrific and is half way through the pregnancy.

I found there is a huge different in private and NHS scans almond although my 12 week scan was luckily nothing like your experience and they had a lot of patience with me. Just as well, since it took three of them almost an hour to get the nuchal measurement. I guess the NHS are looking for things and need to concentrate on that and meet targets in a shorter timeframe whilst you pay a private scanner to have a bedside manner.

Thurlow · 29/04/2016 10:48

almond, I had all my scans for DD at Kings and it was exactly how you described. My scans at my much smaller Herts hospital this time around were much nicer. But yes, they were so busy it was just a conveyer belt.

coppergrey · 29/04/2016 11:27

Fedup I've been reading this thread with interest - it's about the Harmony scan vs the NHS testing www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2624660-harmony-test-vs-standard-nhs?pg=1.

almond, I'd definitely recommend a private scan. Ours cost £80 but it was SO worth it - the sonographer was lovely, she talked us through everything we saw on screen, took loads of pictures from different angles and let us listen to the heartbeat for ages. You could even record it all on your phone if you wanted to!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 29/04/2016 11:36

Almond that doesn't sound like an experience that was memorable for the right reasons. Mine, although not NHS it was standard public Healthcare, was completely different.

The mw/sonographer came to get us from the waiting room and we Went into her Consulting room. She had already read a bit of my notes (all Electronic here) so she knew it was an ivf pregnancy and that we'd had a few early Scans. She explained a bit what was going to happen, and checked if we had any questions. Then we Went into the scanning room. She scanned me for about 15 mins, explaining what and why she was doing stuff. There was a second screen for me to look at suspended from the ceiling so I had a good view of Everything. It didn't feel rushed at all. She printed out 4 photos for us. Then we Went back to her room and she filled in all the data, then told us we were low risk and told us the actual figures. All in all it was a Lovely experience and I'm really sorry that yours wasn't the same. I hope you get the Lovely experience with a private scan.

mssleepyhead · 29/04/2016 15:44

I don't know if people have seen but Verbaudet have a pretty good maternity sale on at the moment, with 40% off a lot of stuff. I wasn't supposed to be buying anything new because I have bits from last time but it was nearly all stuff passed down from my sister so I've just spoiled myself to a few new tops. I shouldn't have done really; it's too soon... I can't believe how these 13 weeks till my scan are dragging!

mssleepyhead · 29/04/2016 15:44

Oh - the link www.vertbaudet.co.uk/maternity.htm?intcmpid=AW15MATLIN0155

FuzzyOwl · 29/04/2016 15:46

Oh mssleepy you naughty enabler! I am going to have to look now because I really am too big for most of my clothes now but look chubby in them instead of pregnant, so need to find my maternity clothes from last time and order some new ones. Grin

almondbutter · 29/04/2016 17:35

Thanks all for perspective on scan, think going for a private one will be a nice treat in a couple of weeks. I hope the delivery experience at St Mary's doesn't feel that way; they rate highly on Which, especially the birth centre, so I hope it'll be more positive.

We're away for the weekend: usually I am queen of trying all the local delicacies and unusual snacks, but today all I have wanted is a McDonalds strawberry milkshake. When DH bought me one I thought I had never loved him more.

bobcat85 · 29/04/2016 17:52

I'd say a private scan is definitely worth the money, mine was lovely and she went through everything on the scan even the blood flow to the baby.

Thanks for sharing the maternity clothes link mssleepyhead. Some lovely clothes, will have to have a proper look when I know all is well.

I know it's bad but I'm kind of wishing away the bank holiday weekend so Wednesday (scan day) comes quicker. I'm nervous already.
