OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
treacletart · 22/02/2007 18:29

Hi all - congrats on all the scans - haven't had much to post so I've been a bit quiet - feeling much better, no nausea anymore, a little less exhausted and boy do I look pregnant! Stretchmarks, sorry to hear about your worrying time but glad everything checked out ok at hospital. I know it's no real help when it's happening because it's terrifying, but unexplained bleeding is so so common. I bled a couple of times with DS and not at all with my missed MC or so far with this one. Hope things settle down for you soon.

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 10:36

So glad it's not just me looking pregnant. Suddenly, over the last 7 days I've just grown enormously. Might be time to get the tape measure out.....

Hey Hersetta, are you about today ?????

UKI - Was wondering where in Oz you were ?

Hersetta · 23/02/2007 12:17

Hey TT,

Yes, I'm about - been a bit busy with work this week so not much time to log on but hopefully I can nip off a couple of hours early today for all the extra (unpaid) hours I have done in the last 6 weeks.

Looking forward to Spain loads. Spoke to my Mum this morning and she said they were going out for the day today as the weather was so beautiful.

My tummy is growing a little bit too - my jeans are now a bit tight by the end of the day.

GillL · 23/02/2007 13:19

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a few days but nothing's really changed. I haven't joined in on a lot of the recent posts because, fortunately I've really had no bad experiences during pregnancy and would not be able to offer anything except sympathy. The only problems I had last time were with midwives after the birth. None of the midwives at the hospital were helpful and they only came to see me if I pressed the emergency button. Then when I was at home and having trouble with breastfeeding I virtually begged the midwife to send the counsellor round and she refused. Anyway, this time I'm going to stay in hospital for the minimum 6 hours (depending on the time of day the baby is born) and I've found out about some bf support groups so I'm not too worried this time.

I was reading a book on pregnancy last night and it says that in the second trimester you should expect to put on 12lbs and only 2lbs is due to the baby. I was shocked! I was hoping not to put so much weight on this time round and I'm eating much more healthily (no chocolate, cakes etc). Does anyone know if this extra 12lbs is due to overeating or would we put it on anyway?

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 14:00

Hey GillL, I wouldn't be embarrassed about feeling just fine !! I like knowing that people are doing well. Sounds like you last experience definitely wasn't the greatest. I think I'd feel so upset and let down if I went through that and I hope you get much better care and attention this time for sure. Think it's time I found my scales and started keeping an eye on this rapidly increasing body of mine....feels like I've put on 12lbs in the first 2 weeks of my second trimester !

Bit of a nightmare Hersetta. Just been told that am NOT actually on the Murcia flight tomorrow morning, am on the Alicante flight! Really irritated with DH now as was very much hoping to meet you. Don't even know what time my flight is but will try and find out this afternoon and let you know in case we can at least meet at the airport.

Loulee · 23/02/2007 14:04

hi all,
not surprised Gill about the 12lb - don't know why but would guess it's in preparation for breastfeeding. Apparently when bf you retain 10% extra weight until you stop. Don't know whats going to happen to me though as I seem to be losing weight - and am still breastfeeding. Am already under my normal weight..I'm putting it down to running round like a loony after 2 little ones!

GillL · 23/02/2007 14:19

Thanks TT. I'm sure now I'm more savvy about the whole thing I'll get on better. Hopefully I'll be more assertive this time as I know what I'm entitled to. Hope you have a nice holiday btw.

Loulee - Sounds like you have a lot to cope with at the moment. How old are your 2? I struggle to muster up the energy to look after one 23 month old. Looking forward to that blooming stage. I'm really hoping to do well with the breastfeeding this time and I know I've got great support on MN - I might call on you for some assistance!

Would be really great if we can all stay in touch after the births. Are there post natal groups on here?

Loulee · 23/02/2007 14:39

GillL mine are dd1(3.5) and dd2 (18mo). Am desperately trying to stop bf dd2, but I'm a bit of a pushover - am no longer night feeding thank god, but she gets fed in the daytime still. She def uses it as a way to get my undivided attention!! Any advice / help i can give - just ask. So long as it's not how to stop! Stopping with dd1 was much easier.
Yeah it is a bit crazy! i'm meant to be working this afternoon, but theyve both been ill, so dd2 has gone out, but dd1 is at home with me. Finding it hard to concentrate - and hence skiving on mn!!

Hersetta · 23/02/2007 14:51

TT,

that's a shame - although Alicante is not too far away (about an hour).

I'll keep an eye out tonight then.

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 15:46

I know, we've often used Alicante as the flights can be cheaper etc but for some reason DH had led me to believe we were going to Murcia but we're actually just flying home from there. Unfortunately I think DH is still at lunch but will attempt to get a sensible answer from him as soon as possible....

BabyMadwithBump · 23/02/2007 15:53

Just an update 17 weeks today (baby moving lots mostly at night)!
I was at the hospital all day yesterday, went doctor in the morning then ended up in hospital as doctor thought my waters had broken but after 5 hours of tests and a scan "no they have not" thank god, and me and babe are fine! But ever since my scare yesterday I've been very down and upset, I was okay yesterday but last night it hit home, and now every time I think about it I get upset and cry, they still don't know why I have so much CM and how come it's so watery, one of them thing we may never get to find out the consultant said, I had an internal exam, and when I was getting ready for it, they told me to strip my bottom half, I sat there for a moment while they were getting things ready for this exam and I left a puddle lets say (it's not wee they checked that too) on this sheet, the internal (allot like a smear) they got a sample from inside than put it on this PH stick kinda thing and then checked it to see weather it's baby water, wee, and so on IYSWIM, which in my case nothing to worry about, still don't know what IT is or where IT comes from! Still left me worried but reassured (I think), but now emotional on what COULD of been and very down. DH said and I'm in agreement to gave MN a break for a while until I fell ready to take on the world again!

See you all soon take care, Babymadxx

GillL · 23/02/2007 15:55

Thanks Loulee. If I can establish bf then it will be fun trying to continue when I go back to work full time. The baby will only be about 3 months when I return to work (due to money/low boredom threshold) so it would be a shame to stop completely.

It's awful when lo's are ill. Luckily dd doesn't get ill very often but when she does it's quite draining.

It's great skiving on mn. Now I've moved desks and no one can see my PC I can skive as much as I like (when I get time). It's been quite stressful today at work so I've needed quite a few breaks. Nearly home time. I'll have a nice break Saturday night as dd is staying at mum's for the night. DH and I are going out for dinner (paid for by his boss). Can't wait!

kiteflying · 23/02/2007 15:57

So sorry babymad - what an awful experience. We will look forward to seeing you back here when you are ready.

I am afraid I logged on to share my good news. I finally got my blood screen results back and I have a screen negative with a risk factor 1:880. Which I think is pretty good for 39 years old and I have decided is good enough for us anyway!

I have already celebrated by buying a little something for my bean at Monsoon. As a reward for being so risk averse!

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 16:04

Oh Babymad, am upset for you and can't imagine the worry you've felt. Take really good care of yourself and we'll all be waiting for you when you come back feeling stronger xxx

On the other side of the coin as always seems to be the way, am really pleased for your news Kite, and the relief you must be feeling. (what d'ya buy, what d'ya buy?)

kiteflying · 23/02/2007 16:20

It is a knitted jacket with an embroidered grey elephant under an acacia tree all in lovely muted colours and not at all cartoonish. It is for a 12-18 month year old as I could not bear it being outgrown too quickly, and would rather look at it for an extra few months before it is worn!

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 16:36

Oh Kite, you funny thing !! That's going to be your pride and joy for next six months while you wait for its wearer isn't it (Does sound lovely though !)

stretchmarks · 23/02/2007 16:39

HI Babymad - sorry to hear about all the worry sounds like we were boths legs akimbo yesterday being examined. I hope they are able to get some answers to you soon.

Try not to worry and take comfort in the fact that both you and the lo are alright.

Ooh shopping I haven't been tempted to buy anything yet still waiting until next scan when hopefully we can find out the sex. I have also kept everything from DS1 so there is already alot that we can use.

I saw a lovely shirt in Monsoon for DS1 with cowboys and indians on am still trying to talk him into it - he has a thing about not wearing short sleeves. We only just about managed to get him into a t-shirt during the heat wave last year.

kiteflying · 23/02/2007 16:41

As I am (or I should say we all are!) expecting a summer baby in the long hot summer of 2007 I have abandoned the idea of buying anything but the minimum in newborn outfits. I suspect the baby will only start wearing clothes in October/November.

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 16:59

Have to confess to an impending fall out with MIL over all this shopping for the baby and buying things (Yes, I know - not exactly a 'hold the front page' shocker). She TOLD me on Saturday that she'd be buying cot for the baby. I swiftly pointed out that she actually wouldn't as I was going to wait for my sil's after she's moved my nephew (2 when my lo's born) into a bed and then have hers. For some reason this is an outrageous idea ???

kiteflying · 23/02/2007 17:47

TT, it's your baby, and you have made your own arrangements for the cot. I would let the first bit be the silent but obvious part of the conversation.

tokentotty · 23/02/2007 20:29

To be honest Kite I do get on brilliantly with them which is lovely as both my parents have died so it's great that they're young (60) and around to enjoy us and whatever children come along. I just find 'over intrusion' a bit smothering sometime and being told what will and won't be happening a bit much !!!

Hey Hersetta, will be flying at 7.45am so therefore floating around the terminal from sixish. How to know each other is now the question...

Uki · 25/02/2007 05:05

Hi All
Have missed a bit on here lately.

Babymad- sorry to hear of your scare , thank goddness all ok.

Tokentotty- I now live on a small farm, 2 hours from Sydney, We moved out of the centre of sydney not long ago and love our new country life.

I've also been feeling more energetic, i feel normal and have been busy again, which is fun,

Kiteflying -sorry to hear of your scare too.
That jumper you knited sounds divine, how clever.

I have also booked a holiday, in fiji for april, at a brand new resort, I can't wait. i bought a dress and maternity swim suit off ebay (both new) to take they are very funky and much cheaper than the shops. Now looking for some jeans as it is going to get cold here soon. Theres not many shops here so internet shopping is great for me.

peanuthead · 26/02/2007 12:38

Hi
Gone a bit quiet on here - maybe becasue Tokentotty and Hersetta are living it up in the sun!

Babymad - that sounds really scarey - hope you feel up to coming back here soon.

Kiteflying - hooray - now you can relax and enjoy (and spend all yr money on expensive but cute baby wear!)Have you got a midwife yet by the way? Can't believe you ahven't! For once seems like South London has the edge over North (stirring madly....)

I'm really fed up - going to have a moan - so much for feeling better - just been retching. I had a good two days - went out shopping, visited sister for first time since new year and even went to a party on sat night (designated driver, humph....)where we finally told some people. And ate and ate and ate. Then yesterday - back to the usual - slept most of the day away, couldn't eat and retched about 4 times. Oh joy - when's it going to end????

Has anyone been to pregnancy yoga? I went on thurs and felt such an arse. Everyone else was 25 weeks plus or about to pop and huge and we had to say how far gone we were - um 14 weeks. Felt like an over excited firsttimer - oh, thats right, I am...

GillL · 26/02/2007 14:27

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad PeanutHead. I'm 15 weeks and wondering when the nausea is going to end. I just feel so crap all the time. I can still eat fortunately but I can't eat as much as I used to (although that's not such a bad thing). I was hoping it would all be over now and I would start to feel energetic but it's just dragging.

I haven't been to Yoga classes but I have started doing Pilates at home. I started on Sunday and had no energy for the rest of the day. Hopefully that will improve as I get a bit fitter though.

peanuthead · 26/02/2007 15:31

It's so wearing isn't it? It puts me off doing anything - I'm feeling much better than I was a few weeks ago, not so tired, but just feel worn out with the constant sickiness. I'm off work as I work nights and I was so sick before - plus don't think nights are good in frist tri for miscarriage - and I'm desperate to get back. I'm freelance so don't earn unless I'm there and I really need to start saving for when the baby is here - no maternity pay either.

God what a moaner - but it's dragging on and I'm tired of moving the goalposts - first I think I'll be fine at 12 weeks, oh no, then 14 weeks, oh no, now I'm counting down to 16 weeks!
