I'm 31weeks as well Ilove and I'm booked in for my WC jab tomorrow (have to see nurse for it at my GP's midwife wouldn't do it. My midwife mentioned it at my 28wk appointment - this was the earliest nurse appointment I could get!

iamdivergent · 05/04/2016 19:41

Yeah I got mine done at 28 weeks by nurse at gp surgery. I think you can have it after 28wks but should have it before a certain week

MollieRos · 05/04/2016 20:12

Madrigal my 32 week email today talked about packing a hospital bag... it still seems really early! I did half heartedly start getting some bits together but I maybe should try and properly put a bag together. I can't believe we're at the stage of packing hospital bags!

Ilovepies my midwife didn't mention it at my 28 week appointment either, I just rang my GP surgery and got it done around 30 weeks I think. I think you're supposed to get it done between 28-36 weeks, so you still have plenty of time.

ILovePies · 05/04/2016 20:30

Okay, will call gp tomorrow & get it booked.
Thanks :)

bikingintherain · 05/04/2016 21:03

I asked my midwife about WC jab for pregnancy and she almost fell off her chair. She was really surprised, she said that cases of it here are almost unheard of and so it was seen that their normal vaccination program was enough and there wasn't a need to do it pregnancy too. So I guess that's that then for me.

They also didn't offer a flu jab which I wish I'd requested as DH has been ill with a serious case of flu for the last two weeks. He's just starting to surface from bed and the people he's seen keep telling him how awful he looks!

dollydaydream84 · 05/04/2016 21:12

The WC guidelines changed on 1st April and you can now have it from 16 weeks apparently! Used to be from 28 weeks. Definitely still in dead arm territory here 5 days on! I felt soooo poorly on Saturday after it, beyond lethargic with lots of joint aches. So glad it only lasted 36 hours!

MollieRos thanks for the reply I have tried not to google it! Seeing the doctor tomorrow when I get home. Similar pain to what you described, glad your doctor wasn't too concerned. Hasn't got worse or better this week, just the same. Fingers crossed nothing to worry about!

nehagarg · 05/04/2016 21:13

Funny you should mention it Madrigal. I spent this evening packing (ish) my hospital bag. I'm 32 weeks and hospital said they might induce me at 37 because of OC so was beginning to get anxious. I have a bit of an OCD about bring organised. Blush

Anyway, here is a list of everything I put in. Hope it helps. Let me know if something in there doesnt make sense. Would love to know from more experienced people if there is something I might have missed. Smile

I am planning to pack an extra bag with a bit more stuff in case I have to stay in so DH can nip back home and get it. Cant trust him to bring everything if he has to do it on his own. Grin

nehagarg brilliant list, I'm so impressed at your organisation! And feeling a bit better that it looks like you've used a little suitcase? I was wondering how to fit everything into a smaller bag, thinking I'd look a bit over the top wheeling a little suitcase into the hospital, but that's reassured me! (I'm sure that's going to be the last thing I'll be thinking about on the day, but you know how easy it is to overthink things at this stage!!) Smile

nehagarg · 05/04/2016 21:40

Mollie I wanted a smaller bag too for like 5 seconds until the thought of pushing a baby out of my vagina popped into my head. When in pain, I want all my comforts. Grin

MadrigalElectromotive · 05/04/2016 22:03

Thanks nehagarg that is such a helpful list! Your organisation is putting me to shame! I think I'll probably steal it in its entirety. One thing which you may want to pack which I saw mentioned on another thread is flip flops for the shower because I think sometimes the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. Smile

MadrigalElectromotive · 05/04/2016 22:03

Just saw you have got flip flops already - ignore me. Blush

laughingGnomette · 05/04/2016 22:25

I'm planning to use a wheeled hand luggage sized suitcase too. I used a rucksack last time and found it cumbersome.
The extra bag is a great idea. DS was too long for half of the clothes I packed for him so needed extras from home!

mrsmugoo · 05/04/2016 22:33

Wow super organised nehagarg!

I'd maybe take more baby outfits - they can go through them pretty quickly. I think I'm going to pack about 5 or 6. In about 6 weeks when I get round to it

Breast pads you won't need unless you stay in hospital for longer than 3 days I.e when your milk comes in. But then again I never used a single breast pad ever, I was lucky enough never to leak.

For nipples get lansinoh! It's not as natural as coconut oil but oh boy do you need it!

nehagarg · 05/04/2016 22:44

Thanks Madrigal. Feel free to use it. I have combined several people's lists to build it too. 😜

Thanks mrsmugoo. I'll definitely put in Lansinoh and up the number of clothes and and good idea laughing to put various sizes in. I am relying very much on the fact that Indian/Iranaian babies tend to be on the smaller side but maybeI shouldnt take that for granted too much.

nehagarg · 05/04/2016 22:45

Btw, does anyone know what happens if my milk doesnt come in? Should i pack a bottle too in case I have to resort to formula? Or will hospital have something?

OP posts:
GrubbyWindows · 05/04/2016 22:54

Neha you would be out of hospital before your milk comes in, don't worry. And your milk WILL come in- you don't need to prepare for it not to any more than you need to prepare for any other medical emergency. You will be fine, and if not, you will cross that bridge when you get to it!
The formula industry is very good at getting us to prepare to fail at breastfeeding (which is not to say that lots of people don't have a horribly hard time, or that formula isn't lifesaving when it's needed! Just the formula industry has a pretty massive vested interest in lining us up to have harder times than we need to...).
For the record, I never needed my Lansinoh either- pain is not a given.

mrsmugoo · 05/04/2016 22:57

Your milk won't come in in hospital unless you have an extended stay - it's usually day 3-5 and it's extremely rare for it not to come in at all.

Your baby will be fine on colostrum before it comes in and if you struggle to get him latched on in hospital they will give you a bottle if you need it. I struggled at first and the midwives helped me express colostrum and feed it in a tiny syringe.

mrsmugoo · 05/04/2016 22:59

Cross post with grubby - agree with everything she says!

(Am very jealous of you not needing your lansinoh! My nips were shredded!)

MindfulBear · 05/04/2016 23:01

Last time I took (well DH) 3 bags into the hospital, incl a picnic bag.
Barely used any of it (& I was in labour 2 days and overnight and had another night and day after DS was born).

All the baby clothes I took were too big and the hat was too small!!!!!!!

However. I might use it all this time so I cannot imagine taking much less!!!

MindfulBear · 05/04/2016 23:14

Those of you with big boobs and wanting to avoid the mono boob look ....

it is definitely worth investing in some Anita underwire bf bras. Amazing. Got mine from figleaves.
m.figleaves.com/uk/product/ANT-5035/Anita-Maternity-Jacquard-Underwired-Nursing/?size=&colour=White&c=ppc&src=gguk_feed&gclid=Cj0KEQjwxI24BRDqqN3f-97N6egBEiQAGv37hIG8unbfZrlA0-Fmhxo7HItzybdpM8ukQUcUV-Ck3Q4aAjTW8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Absolute godsend once you are ready to give up the bravado seamless mono boob one (which I continued to wear at night for months with DS!)
http://www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/search.asp?types=Bravado&gclid=Cj0KEQjwxI24BRDqqN3f-97N6egBEiQAGv37hC1ivUIf9EE_qHagejN5j8zrECILIBfxxVpn8r0Le8EaAnMn8P8HAQ

I also loved the hot milk range as they were so pretty but in the end preferred my underwired Anita ones.

If anyone is thinking of joining a BuggyFit class or going to the gym after baby is born then my BuggyFit instructor recommended wearing a normal bf bra under a front fastening sports bra - easy access if you need to feed just before or after or even during a session.
I used this one

Was amazing!!

MindfulBear · 05/04/2016 23:21

Re drinking ...... I am still having the odd glass or 2 a couple of nights a week (shhh!). I couldn't drink for most of my last pg as even the smell made me feel sick. But this time.... It's been totally different!! I also could not eat red meat last time but this time I've been eating pretty much what I like....even cheeses like Brie and stinky unpasteurised ones!!!

LO is also doing some weird movements here. MW thought she was head up at my last appointment but I've been swimming and doing inversions and she has definitely moved.... Just not sure if she is transverse or stayed head up but turned so her back is to my tummy. The movements feel different.... Still. 29 weeks so plenty of time for her to flip.... Fingers crossed!! Had the osteopath working on my hips last week so hoping there is more space for her to find a good position. DS was back to back last time so doing my best to maximise chances of avoiding that. Back labour was not great :)

Anyone else doing inversions and other spinning babies suggestions for optimal foetal positioning?!

laughingGnomette · 05/04/2016 23:43

I tried using lansinoh last time but DS would refuse to latch on if I'd used it so I had to suffer without. Mean child!! ;)

strawberrypenguin · 06/04/2016 07:36

nehagarg if you need formula in hospital the hospital will provide it. The have bottles of pre-made formula from the main brands that you just screw a teat onto - they'll ask which formula you want to use and provide you with as much as baby need while you are there. The baby is their patient as much as you are so in the same way we get fed they do too if they can't/won't bf

nehagarg · 06/04/2016 08:17

Thanks everyone. Clearly I need to get myself to a breastfeeding class soon. I am sooo clueless. Blush Good to know what the steps are strawberry. Pretty sure it will be fine but good to know what the plan will be in a "what if" situation. Like I said, I have an OCD about being organised. Grin

Grubby - I completely agree.

I would recommend the book "the womanly art of breastfeeding" - it's literally the breastfeeding bible. I read that book cover to cover and managed to EBF for 10 months until I chose to stop, despite ALL THE PROBLEMS at the start.

That and the infant feeding topic on here where what kept me going.
