kellymom.com was my online BF bible. It's a huge wealth of knowledge.
There is an article about when your milk will come in if you're interested:

Thanks laughing and mrsmugoo.

Does anyone have a good remedy for leg cramps- I have had them on and off the last week or two but must have flexed my left leg slightly in my sleep and woke up around 3am to a few minutes of absolute agony- not fun!

nehagarg · 06/04/2016 10:20

Thanks laughing .. Will give it a shot!

Eastend .. I got my first leg cramp last night. Swore so loudly that I woke DH up. I found that pointing my tow towards the floor and massaging my calf helped it calm down. Tried a cold pack this morning and it seems almost back to normal. Still slightly sore though. I'll try a hot pack next time to see if that might be more effective!

Also for anyone possibly worrying about milk coming in after a section - mine was planned at 39 weeks and came in on day 3 no troubles.

Eastend2015 · 06/04/2016 10:32

Nehagarg yup my leg is still sore too Sad DH has long been wearing earplugs as apparently I snore now so he was impervious to my swearing! This article has some good suggestions www.babycenter.com/0_leg-cramps-during-pregnancy_250.bc As I sit most of the day, that might be the issue but been doing a reasonable amount of exercise. I've been lucky to sleep pretty well up to now so won't be happy if that changes!

pamplem0usse · 06/04/2016 10:39

Didn't have any issues with my milk coming in after two sections either (one after a 3 day labour)....
We've had: tongue ties x 2, mastitis x 2, multiple allergies (cows milk, wheat, soya, egg - all causing problems via my breast milk) ebf daughter until 15 months and son until 2 years. Totally pro choice when it comes to feeding but I know I wouldn't have managed without accessing some amazing support. If you want to bf then I think the key is to ask ask ask away. And if it doesn't feel right get some help before you have lacerated nipples. I had some eejits tell me pain was normal and that my baby who cried for 18 hours a day needed leaving to cio and it was my fault for keep picking him up....

cautiousoptimist1 · 06/04/2016 10:42

Oh yes Eastend I'm with you on the leg cramps. It's an almost daily occurrence now and flexing my leg doesn't help, I've started drinking more water which has helped a bit but still getting them regularly and expect to wake up with leg cramp overnight. I've had it for a few weeks now and it's not every night but I've become an expert in walking them off!

Eastend2015 · 06/04/2016 10:51

Cautious Nooooooo!!!

pamplem0usse · 06/04/2016 11:09

Potassium for leg cramps (try a banana an hour or so before bed!)

bikingintherain · 06/04/2016 12:23

Ok definite TMI here but.....

The first time I way over estimated a need for breast pads, but under estimated a need for maternity pads. I was using two at a time after both kids for the first 8 hours or so and changing every hour or two. It's not that much for everyone, but I would definitely pack more than you think. (I think I assumed period amounts, but it's a fair bit more bleeding at the beginning).

nehagarg · 06/04/2016 12:28

Good point biking ... I was wondering about how many I need too but didnt have a point of reference ... I have packed 24 for the first day or so and an additional 20 in my extras bag if I need to stay in. Do you think that'll be enough?

OP posts:
nehagarg · 06/04/2016 12:32

Thanks for that link Eastend .. Very useful. I was stretching when I got my cramp so I am (very optimistically) hoping that this isnt something that will become a regular occurrence.

OP posts:
bikingintherain · 06/04/2016 12:34

I would have thought so.

Just make sure DH knows what they are and where to find them just in case you stay in longer and need more. They do have them in hospital (and theirs are super absorbent) so you can always get more if you need them. It's just a pain to have to ask!

ILovePies · 06/04/2016 12:54

My milk came in fine after a section too :) your list is fab nehagarg! I would 100% recommend lasinosh it was my life saver.
Also depends on you if you'll need breast pads, I was using them before I had both my babies because I was leaking. Some people are just leaky Grin

iamdivergent · 06/04/2016 13:01

Good list but I wouldn't bother with the towel/s I never used mine when I was in hospital.

And yes to more pads than you think you'll need, the bleeding is mental at first.

nehagarg · 06/04/2016 13:28

Thanks biking ... I'll make sure DH knows Smile

ILovePies and divergent .. Thanks Smile .. I am not leaking yet but the inside of my nipples is white, almost like milk might come sprouting out any second so who knows!

I'm glad to hear you're drinking too, MindfulBear, I am too. Just a glass once a week or so, but I feel pretty comfortable about it, and do think I've got a good balance. It's pretty normal around here: a lot of women advocate a glass of wine of an evening (a small french-sized glass, mind not a bucket). I didnt ask my doctor about it though, and he never mentioned it.

I cant believe we're at the point of packing hospital bags. I'm 31 weeks, and I've so much to get done in the next couple of months. (I'm due 2 months today!). Actually, they provide most things here, so apart from pyjamas and slippers, you're not expected to take much: the hospital provides all baby clothes, maternity pads, creams etc for the duration of the hospital stay (about 5 days for a normal birth), so I'm not even thinking about it.

In other exciting news, I have just taken delivery of my pram/carrycot/car seat trio, isofix base, and chicco next to me cot. We had a productive weekend, and put our orders in. I have also ordered the stokke baby carrier, as it was on offer. It's in a beautiful purple, so that's exciting.

Just waiting to get confirmation of the mortgage, and then we can get on with moving house. We're running out of time now. Eek!

earlgreydrinker · 06/04/2016 14:03

Hello caught up with you all. Been distracted lately on the MN Archers boards not this one!!

Leg cramp is horrid I suffered last time but it has not struck this time yet. Keep hydrated and some gentle stretching before bed can help.

Thanks for the book suggestion mrsmugoo. Breastfeeding didn't work out for us last time and I had to stop after 3 weeks and since I have questioned some of the advice I was given. Going to swot up a bit more this time rather than presuming it will just happen naturally and not beat myself up this time if it doesn't work out. One nipple has started leaking. Surely this is a good sign? It has made me very happy ha ha!

30 weeks and beginning to think I better get my hospital bag ready but that means making a list and going to buy it all! We have to take everything to hospital with us - I had a HUGE bag last time (but I was there 5 days in the end).

nehagarg · 06/04/2016 16:55

Whooping Cough vaccination done. Tiny needle. Big ouchie!

OP posts:
strawberrypenguin · 06/04/2016 17:25

Definitely going to try to get everything in one bag this time. I had several with me last time and as I was moved room several times it was a real pain, I think one big bag is the is the way forward! Really should start thinking about packing it soon. Or at least writing a list.

Had my WC vaccine this afternoon - dead top of arm now!

strawberrypenguin · 06/04/2016 17:25

Totally agree nehagarg

jellybelly85 · 06/04/2016 17:32

I've had at least weekly (often more) leg cramps for the past couple of months... Not found anyway to avoid them. Think I'll have super stud calves by the end!! Osteopath suggested it was due to posture making me overuse those muscles to compensate for bump.

We're moving up north this weekend, so had to say goodbye to lots of work colleagues today. Making it feel very real all of a sudden (even though I'm only 30w tomorrow!) goodbyes are hard!

Thanks for all the BF advice - will read through thoroughly. Very determined to try my best here (but know that if it doesn't work out that's ok too). Friend said it's important to know where to get support - so worth finding out before D-day where you're local support groups are, go visit, make sure a suitable qualified BF advisor/supporter is available..etc I'm quite relieved to know that despite many having a difficult first few weeks they are still able to succeed with perseverance.

GenevaJoey · 06/04/2016 17:39

I got a lot of leg cramps during the second trimester, but they've eased up in recent weeks - not sure what changed. I found stretching before bed helped, and whatever i did i made not sure to point my toes in bed. Ouch!
