iam - that is so frustrating! So it's almost pot luck out of you and the other ladies who misses out? Sad

mrsmugoo · 20/04/2016 14:27

I think early epidurals can slow/stall labour though. She was only 1cm so not even technically in active labour!

iamdivergent · 20/04/2016 14:28

Yep. She said that the normally drop kits in around 36wks but they're aiming for 39wks and that's if they have all the equipment

clarish84 · 20/04/2016 15:46

Holy moly, i just wrote my to-do list and hospital bag/baby bag packing lists. Its all getting really real!

It's also showed me how much i have to do and in finding moving very painful - can you get spd in your hips? They are so sore, every step is agony Sad

I dared to watch obem as well... i thought the midwife with the Spanish lady was irritating as well. The couple had clearly researched their options and made an informed choice, only to be fobbed off with a hot water bottle Hmm

iamdivergent · 20/04/2016 17:04

I just ordered some bits from boots. Think I have everything! Scary stuff. Just need to get all the baby clothes washed and I'll be happy.

Didn't watch obem last night but I did record it, the second part of Portland is on tonight too so it will be recorded. DH does not understand the fascination at all Grin

earlgreydrinker · 20/04/2016 17:04

iam I'm on iron and can highly recommend spatone iron water. No side effects to report. Not cheap but I did get it on the boots 3 for 2.

bikingintherain · 20/04/2016 17:48

I love OBEM, but refuse to watch it in pregnancy. I won't watch anything about related at all. I just think they tend to focus on the more extreme cases, which I totally understand, but as someone who is about to experience it I would rather not have those examples running through my head!

On the plus side I can catch up on it, post birth when feeding and hopefully look back and think that mine wasn't that bad!

iamdivergent · 20/04/2016 17:49

earl thanks for that. I'll go have a look tomorrow and see what my local boots has Smile

cautiousoptimist1 · 20/04/2016 18:42

We are getting really close now. It's our last antenatal tonight. I hate having my photo taken so there are no bump pictures but apparently there will be a photo tonight of the Mums and then one when the babies are here. I'm stressing about it which is stupid! We've all swapped numbers and one of the couples lives in the next village so that could be handy!

I'm starting to feel tired now and the heartburn is annoying!

I really need to start on my hospital bag, I have a few sleep suits and babygros for the baby but nothing else. That could be a task for this weekend.

booked83 · 20/04/2016 19:33

Your mad watching obem.... I wouldn't watch that not pregnant never mind pregnant!

My legs feel so swollen it's uncomfortable...

How's everyone doing in the heat? I was ok till I had to wait at the bus stop for 10 mins after taking DD to park!

mrsmugoo · 20/04/2016 20:02

I'm slowly gathering hospital bag bits and bobs - did an order on h&m today for some bits and bobs to wear after the birth that are boob friendly - long vests etc and some nice leggings as I transition back into normal jeans!

I might do miniature toiletries at the weekend and then boring bits like pads and big knickers next week.

wigelspigels · 20/04/2016 20:07

Booked - my legs/ankles are huge today. I sit all day at work - I try to get up a lot. After 2 weeks holiday and being busy a lot and ankles being fine. Back at work this week, I know it's the bump pressure. Swimming at the weekend will sort them.

On a cute note, baby had first hic ups today. Love them :)

Really having to eat less now.

nehagarg · 20/04/2016 20:21

Me too. Spatone is a life saver divergent. Not too sure about the strength though. Its only 5mg per sachet compared to 300 mg tablets. Even with tablet's low absorption and spatone's high absorption, the tablets seems to have more. Must ask midwife.

Tummy feels like a boulder today. Big and super hard. Not sure whats going on. Cant get it to relax.

Next month???? Eeeeekkkk I'm not ready to say that yet. I haven't given the slightest thought to hospital bag. Although I have most baby things I need and have been through it all before I don't feel in the slightest bit ready to do it again yet.

Wondering if anyone has any advice for preparing a 2 year old for a new sibling? DD knows there's a baby in mummy's tummy. She has a book about it that she likes. But conversations always go like this....
Are you going to be nice to the baby? No
Are you going to be gentle and stroke the baby? No
Are you going to help mummy look after the baby? No
I don't know how much she understands about there being a new baby but she's adamant in her answers!

sambababy · 20/04/2016 21:05

Torfhinn yes spd can be in your hips too.

Eastend2015 · 20/04/2016 21:45

laughing next month?! [has minor freak out!]

Had a maternity coaching session at work today- it was really interesting/ fun to sit in a room with 15 other pregnant ladies. It was kindof funny how we all said we felt pretty well physically but as the facilitator probed a bit more it soon came to light how exhausted we all were from keeping so many plates spinning. It felt quite reassuring to acknowledge that! My boss has now gone on sabatical and I am running the team, only 2 months into the role myself and I feel like I haven't sat down all week. Time is really flying- first nct class on Saturday!!

Torfhinn · 21/04/2016 04:27

Oh boy, i have been awake for a looong time. Feeling rough, hip pain and rib pain making me feel miserable. Supposed to be going on a special day out for ds's birthday but will have to cancel as I've had all of 2 hrs broken sleep, so disappointed Sad Also tested my own wee and it looks like i have a uti - only good news is that antibiotics may make me feel a bit better... i think I'm rambling, so tired!

strawberrypenguin · 21/04/2016 07:29

Sorry you're feeling so rough torf

Was saying to DH last night that I miss getting into bed and being comfortable, then I woke up at 3am with about every one of my 'uncomfortable in bed' things happening at once! I was sweaty from overheating, needed a wee, had pelvic pain, gave myself leg cramp trying to roll over and then had a brazton hicks!

Still only got 12 working days left!

How's bump today nehagarg sounds like it could have been a change in baby position with them pressing up against front of bump

insideout · 21/04/2016 08:26

had a horrible day yesterday, had to go for GTT (3 weeks late as my midwife was off on holiday again and apparently no one is allowed to book them but her) this was combined with my weekly blood tests for PET and OC.

Receptionist at the clinic spent 20 minutes bitching about how unnecessary weekly tests were , when I gently explained that both me and DS nearly died in my last pregnancy and the consultant was keeping a closer eye on me, she kept saying 'its totally pointless'.

HCA then spent 20 minutes trying to find a vein, I have never had any issues with this before- my veins are really visible! THEN i found out that they lied about my last blood results being normal- they weren't. And THEN when I left I realized they have put someone elses blood results in with mine. totally ridiculous

  • Rant over, as you were!! Smile

Morning! For those of you worrying about not being on the MW led birthing unit but in the labour ward.... I was on the labour ward last time as I had PE - no pool for me :(
However we insisted on an active birth and had access to a ball and birthing stool etc. I was quite militant tho so the poor MW had a lot to contend with.
I wouldn't get on the bed - for anything!! I had been advised by various people, info family (we have big heads on both sides of the gene pool!) NOT to get in the bed in any circumstances as it would be game over and CS would be likely.
That may be a bit OTT but I did give birth kneeling on the floor using the forces of gravity. So I did avoid the CS (altho only just!!). Poor DH had to hold the monitor on me as it kept falling off when I leant against the bed during a contraction.... The MW was losing the plot because the machine kept losing DS' trace which meant she was in trouble with the DRs! It was a bit of a farce but DH's extensive experience, of falling asleep in nightclubs holding a pint but not spilling a drop, came into its own!!!!

I did have an epidural a few hours before DS was born. I wished I had had it much much earlier so it had time to wear off before the pushing phase. May have helped me avoid 2nd degree tear!!!

Anyway, The MWs are under more pressure from the Drs on a labour ward. you are being clock watched so the cascade of interventions is more likely to commence than on a pure MW led unit. And therefore a CS or instrumental birth is that bit more likely. However it is still possible to have th birth that you want and of course you have all the medical support you might need immediately in case of a problem.

Fwiw we had a doula so she and DH managed to negotiate to give me more time and try different things. I'm pretty sure it was my militant approach to an active birth and my supporters negotiation skills that ensured I did avoid a CS in the end.

On no inside how stressful.
What's wrong with your bloods? Hope everything is ok.
Receptionists should wind their necks in

strawberrypenguin · 21/04/2016 08:55

That all sounds very stressful inside receptionists should learn when to shut up as well - they clearly see a lot but aren't medical staff so it's not their judgement call. Hope your bloods were OK in the end.

I was on labour ward with a drop in each hand last time and a lot of monitoring and still managed to not be laying on the bed. The midwife raised the back up and I was knelt on the bed leaning on the back. So even on the bed you don't have to be flat on your back.

laughingGnomette · 21/04/2016 09:16

Torf - FlowersCake how rubbish. I hope you get to catch up on your sleep today.

strawberry - oh dear! I hope you managed to get back to sleep again.

insideout - that is just appalling on every level!!

Mindful I agree to an extent but I don't think it's the norm for them to give you a CS if you don't give birth within a certain amount of time unless there is a medical need. My MWs were very pro active labour and I spent a lot of time on the ball and on my knees. I actually have a picture of DP asleep on the bed because I wasn't using it! Grin. Yes I did end up with a CS but that was only mentioned when DS's heart rate dropped worryingly. It probably varies from hospital to hospital though!
