DH must have picked up on me not feeling great as a florist has just delivered me a lovely bunch of flowers. I think I have a good one there

pickledsausage · 29/03/2016 15:08

Fuzzy yes makes sense, thank you! Will PM you now :) That's reassuring about the dreams, thank you.

Haha Rae that is good news, you've inspired me to get some for my train journey home...

fuzzywuzzy · 29/03/2016 15:12

Aww Albus that's lovely. I can't have fresh flowers, our cat eats them!

Thurlow · 29/03/2016 15:12

Rae, I've found sweet and salty popcorn has stayed down really well too. It's all about the carbs and salt, isn't it?!

Equally, when you're feeling very rough then it's anything that can help with fluid intake too, so jelly, tinned fruit etc.

RaeSkywalker · 29/03/2016 15:17

Hope you get on ok with them Pickled

Thanks for the popcorn idea Thurlow. I might order some jelly too (I'm veggie so struggle in supermarkets). I had 2 ice lollies yesterday which (mostly) stayed down so hopefully jelly would be good too.

FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 15:31

I'd forgotten how much I loved jelly last time and hula hoops and popcorn are always favourites with me. I just don't seem to have any appetite for anything apart from Rich Tea biscuits at the moment, and even that is limited.

Flowers Fuzzy. It's horrible isn't it!!

Thurlow · 29/03/2016 15:43

Dry cereal is my go-to at the moment, especially Special K.

AlbusPercival · 29/03/2016 15:45

OOh jelly sounds amazing!

I have some crystals in the cupboard, if I make it, how long will it take to set?

Fedupithink · 29/03/2016 15:46

That's awesome news Spotty

I'm struggling with food too, nothing I fancy and what I do eat doesn't taste right.

Nipped to the petroleum station earlier (tesco express) and I usually love the smell of fuel but I retched all the way round the shop and then all the way home. Had to wait in my car on the drive for about 15 mins before I felt well enough to get out!

Fedupithink · 29/03/2016 15:46

Petrol obviously, autocorrect is very formal!

Thurlow · 29/03/2016 16:01

I did think that sounded nicely formal, Fedup Wink

I've just realised (scatty baby brain at the moment) that it's my booking appointment tomorrow. 2.5 hours worth of a group session Hmm I'm tempted to throw up half way through very noisily just to point out the ludicrousness of making 8-10w pregnant women sit in a meeting for so many hours. But the battle for an ELCS begins! I've heard so many mixed stories, some women automatically getting one on request because they've had an EMCS, others having to fight tooth and nail. It seems quite cruel, really, if you have to spend your whole pregnancy in a state of worry that you might get to 36w pregnant and suddenly get told that you won't get one.

Anyone else considering a maternal request ELCS for essentially non-medical reasons?

FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 16:07

I'm going to be asking begging for an ELCS Thurlow. My main reason without going into it too much is how ignored I was last pregnancy. I can't really even type it as it still upsets me now about what almost happened. I don't know if it was to do with me, but the hospital where it happened has subsequently changed their procedures to prevent such a thing happening again (or so they tell me) and all women now get a third scan just before birth.

Thurlow · 29/03/2016 16:16

I'm sorry, that's rubbish Sad Mine is quite similar - unmonitored despite being on the ward for 12 hours telling them I wasn't even keeping liquids down, and guess what? When they finally did monitor me, we were both very unwell and were rushed into theatre for an EMCS and DD was in NICU/SCBU for 5 days. I'm hoping this is enough but I am very worried that they'll start arguing that they just can monitor me heavily this time around, or that actually an ELCS has an increased risk of the baby being in SCBU anyway, so it's not what I need. Bugger 'em if they say that. I absolutely refuse to go through labour again!

(Sorry to an first-timers reading this, most people I know had a very nice experience, mine happened a month after a our new maternity unit opened and it seems all the cock ups were mostly due to that!)

FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 16:22

I ended up having an ELCS as well. Nothing at all about birth was mentioned at my booking in appointment so I might wait until I see the midwife at 16 weeks and bring it up then.

OP posts:
FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 16:23

I hope we both get our ELCS Thurlow and sorry to hear about your experience.

OP posts:
Thurlow · 29/03/2016 16:32

There's a section in my maternity notes (we have to complete the book ourselves) which says something like 'requests for birth' etc and I have simply written want ELCS. I'm going with bring it up earlier rather than later, just in case it can be agreed earlier rather than later and then I don't have to worry.

FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 16:34

I will have a look through my notes then and see if it is there. My midwife has said I will be seeing a consultant although she didn't say why and I only found out from reading it in my booklet after our appointment, but maybe that is standard after an EMCS. I don't know.

OP posts:
Thurlow · 29/03/2016 16:37

A consultant is standard after any form of CS, though I believe that if your pregnancy continues normally, the CS was unrelated to any continuing health reasons (say it was a breech baby first time) and things look good for VBAC then it's more a formality than anything else. In our area, if you're under consultant care then you're not allowed to give birth in the MLU, which is the standard place to give birth at our hospital, as the two units are in the same building.

FuzzyOwl · 29/03/2016 16:39

That makes sense and thank you for explaining - it's a shame the midwife didn't. Mine was a first time breech so it sounds like I need to use every appointment I get to make it very clear I want an ELCS this time.

Welcome Lemon!

I'm with everyone on the hula hoops!

I had an ELCS, I requested it due to 4th degree tears and horrific first birth. One midwife was v anti, another was amazing and recommended me to a consultant who she thought would approve and he did. Worth sounding out your mw first in my experience and they usually won't discuss it until after 20w either.

findingmyfeet12 · 29/03/2016 17:46

Sorry to change the subject. I was at work today when I felt a little leak down below. I panicked in case it was blood.

I rushed to the loo and it was a watery yellow discharge. Sorry for tmi but it covered about 1/4 of my pantyliner and didn't smell or anything.

Should I be worried?

LemonShizzleCake · 29/03/2016 17:59

Hi finding - can see why you might be worried (if you're anything like me, any tiny little semi-symptom could set you off! Smile) but I think this sounds fine, as long as there's no blood. Even if you get a little bit of spotting it's still usually fine.

Apparently with an ectopic pregnancy (and I am not saying this to scare you at all) you get watery discharge, but it is pinky/bloody, not just yellowy. So I think you're fine, just keep an eye.

That said, I am very new to the pregnancy game so would welcome input from the more experienced!

fuzzywuzzy · 29/03/2016 17:59

Increased discharge is normal, I've been running to the toilet checking as well!

findingmyfeet12 · 29/03/2016 18:06

Thanks for the responses - I feel much better.

It's definitely not an ectopic Lemon as we've had an early scan.

I usually have increased discharge towards the end of my cycle and this was just a bit more than that. I'm not so worried now.
