Thread #4 - TTC#1 the one where Stark joins the grads!!!!

Runner05 · 21/03/2016 12:33

Welcome to another riveting instalment of TTC#1 grads.

We've got new grads POAS every day just to make sure, 1st Trimesters wondering if they will be hit by the dreaded morning sickness or not, those approaching the hollowed promised land of the second trimester where all is good and the glowing will prevail... Those who have reached the second trimester and are thoroughly miffed at the lack of glowing.
We have scan photos, bizarre symptoms and the joys of baby shopping, and very importantly we now have Stark!

All are welcome on the wild gas powered ride that is TTC#1 grads Grin

P.S - last night my boob started leaking watery stuff! I completely freaked out! Surely this is too early for any milk stuff? Has this happened to anyone else?

IrregularCommentary · 12/04/2016 22:48

It's totally normal Soda. Doesn't happen to everyone, but can happen as early as 14w apparently. If there's any blood then contact your GP, but otherwise it's just another delightful pregnancy experience to add to the list.

Morwenna1 · 12/04/2016 23:06

Yep Soda I have had some (tmi) lovely yellow congealed stuff coming out of my nips. Colostrum! I had it weeks ago (am 22 weeks atm).

Wow Miley sounds like you're going through the mill...! Sad

Hi Flash - second what everyone else is saying, probably completely normal but good to get checked out to be sure.

Stark How inconsiderate of your neighbours!

I'm currently fending off well-intentioned but completely unsolicited advice from various quarters...MIL included. Doing a lot of nodding and mming at the moment!

BunchOfBobs · 13/04/2016 06:12

Potato I'm so sorry about your mum, sounds like you had a really hideous day.

Starky I hope you got your Dr Pepper and you started feeling better.

Flash another one who had spotting here at 7/8 weeks. My midwife referred me to the EPU/EPAS and all was fine, just cervical erosion.

Have we heard from Impy lately, isn't she due another scan to check everything is okay?

ElleSarcasmo · 13/04/2016 09:34

Sorry about your mum Potato, that sounds really hard Flowers

How are you feeling now Miley? Are you back at home yet?

Bunch hope you're feeling better about things Flowers

Flash welcome, hope you have found somewhere to check you out.

Starky hope the smell has gone now! How revolting. I thought I didn't really have a changed sense of smell/taste but some things just taste really strong/bitter like peppers but other things taste normal Confused imagining burnt plastic made me gag so sympathy for you Flowers

7+1 here and wishing time would speed up. The nausea has been horrible, especially when driving (not convenient with a 1hr 10-1 hr 20 drive to work), have thought I'd have to pull over to be sick a few times but haven't vomited yet. I am eating something small when I wake in the early hours (inevitable) and before I get up which really helps with the nausea. So much for not putting weight on!

Flashinthepan · 13/04/2016 10:11

Morning all! Thanks for all your reassurances, I went to see an out of hours doc who didn't seem concerned by the bleeding as I don't have any other symptoms and but said if I get any pain or the bleeding gets more or anything than to get in touch. But, having had to wait for hours to see them, they tested my pee and my ketone levels were high because I hadn't had anything to eat or drink for 5 hours so I went home and scarfed down some food and pints of water! Also now experiencing nausea on waking up, its very tempting to stay in bed and sleep more but actually gets better when I stand up.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok this morning, its very reassuring being on here, especially early on when noone in RL knows!

Mileymoocow · 13/04/2016 10:31

Hi elle, yeah I got home yesterday and the new tablets I have are brill. I still feel sick but haven't thrown up once since I left the hospital.

indi I'm at that awkward stage, too! There's a bit of a bump but it just looks like too much cake at the moment! I have a friend who is about 5 days further on than me and she's huge!! It's her 2nd (her first is 9) and the baby's dad is about 6 foot 5.

IndiX · 13/04/2016 11:01

Miley glad you're home and feeling a bit better. I was expecting to have a proper bump by now (I'm 5'10 and my DH is 6'5) but nothing to see really. I guess I'd prefer to be smaller rather than bigger but I would like a bump by the time we go on holiday.

I'm 14 weeks today! Officially in my second trimester according to ovia. Feeling pretty normal now, I have a bit of nausea at night time but I've got used to that now.
Hope everyone is feeling ok, if you're feeling nauseous rest as much as you can and eat what you can and when you can. Don't worry too much about weight gain, you need all the energy you can get!

Mileymoocow · 13/04/2016 11:33

Just got my screening results back, 1 in 50,000 for down and 1 in 36,518 for Edwards. Very pleased Smile

IndiX · 13/04/2016 12:11

Great news Miley Grin

BunchOfBobs · 13/04/2016 12:31

Great news Miley and Flash.

Does anyone here have a thug for Muslins? Apparently I do. I did some research before Christmas and went down the Aden and Anais route for swaddling- bought some in NyC and have since found to maxx does them for much cheaper. I've been looking around at more today as I needed some for nappies and who can resist the look of a swaddled babe. I came across www.cuskishop.co.uk great reviews and patterns right up my street. Then I found their seconds sale http://www.cuskishop.co.uk/sampleseconds--all-swandoodlesdreameezzhappy-blankets-from-125-924-p.asp Shock I just spent £47 on ten Muslins (5 for swaddling, 5 for nappies) that should have cost me £150ShockGrin .

I'm in love and cannot wait for them to arrive.

BunchOfBobs · 13/04/2016 12:31

And by thug I meant thing.

PotatosMum · 13/04/2016 12:47

Morning all (just about) glad everyone seems to be doing a bit better today.

Miley it's great news that the tablets are helping.

Flash I'm glad you've seen a Dr and he wasn't worried.

I'm feeling much more positive today. My boss is happy for me to bring my maternity forward so I only have 10 weeks left Grin also I just spotted the count down on pregnancy+ which says I only have 19+3 left Shock it feels different seeing it as a countdown when you know you've got less time to go than you've already served Wink feeling very excited Smile

LillianFullStop · 13/04/2016 12:54

Sorry you're having a rough time flash but hopefully doctors have given you some reassurance!

lara 2 days to go for us! I'm very excited and very nervous at the same time. Trying very hard to be positive but the niggling worry is still there. What time is your scan? mine is not til 3.30 and I've been told they run later and later as the day goes on so I think I have a bit of a wait on Friday!

PotatosMum · 13/04/2016 13:12

Sounds like the thread will be bursting with scan photos on Friday Grin

Has anyone else started thinking about putting a hospital bag together?

Pinklily1 · 13/04/2016 14:26

Hi all

Glad you are feeling a bit better now Miley! And glad to hear the new hospital is good! I'm looking forward to going on a tour at some point.

potato, I've made a rough list of what's needed for hospital bag, but am going to think about it properly nearer the time. There are loads of threads with tips on what to take in the Pregnancy and childbirth sections on here.

Lillian I know it will vary from hospital to hospital but my 20 week scan was the last appointment of the day and I went in 15 minutes early as the scans that day hadn't taken as long as anticipated. I suppose it depends on what they get!

Good luck to all of those having scans on Friday, looking forward to seeing some pictures!

Laurenrl · 13/04/2016 14:38

Another here that had bleeding flash I had spotting at 5 weeks and a massive red bleed at 7 weeks went to epu and saw babys heart flickering away, they think I had a cut on my cervix and been fine since touch wood! Definitely calmed me down getting checked out though

Jamjar12 · 13/04/2016 16:33

I haven't had any bleeding but my midwife mentioned something about how sometimes if you've been on birth control prior to getting pregnant, it's not a big deal if there's a few spots as they can be a result of something changing on your cervix or something... Like mini spots that burst and cause a bit of bleeding maybe as a result of sex?
Now that I'm trying to explain it, I'm realising I can't actually remember what she said haha. It was just an example of how bleeding isn't always something to be scared of, if it's just a bit and not often... Haha, I'm useless- sorry!!

leoniethelioness · 13/04/2016 16:56

16 week appointment done! The midwife didn't offer to listen for a heartbeat, which was a bit disappointing, but I've Googled and it seems like it's not standard in all NHS areas. Time to adopt a positive mental attitude that all is well!

I hope everyone is well today! I'm going to start compiling my nursery checklist so I'm ready to start buying things next month. We are waiting for a quote from the decorators so hopefully our room and the baby's room will be ready within the next few weeks and I can then leisurely carry on with the rest of the house and have somewhere to put baby bits!

Here's my list (pinched from John Lewis' website and adapted a little bit):

Moses basket or crib
Cot or cotbed
New mattress
Mattress pad
Mattress protector
3-4 fitted sheets
Swaddling blankets or sleeping bags
3-4 blankets
Room thermometer/night light
Digital thermometer - for baby's temperature
Baby monitor
Baby bath or bath support
Bath thermometer
Toiletries
Cotton wool
Sponge
Flannel
Changing mat
Travel changing mat
Cuddle robe or towels
Nappies
Nappy pail or similar
Nappy sacks
Baby wipes
Muslin squares (at least 6)
Brush and comb
Nail scissors or clippers
Nursing bras
Breast pads
Nipple protectors and cream
Car seat
Pram/pushchair suitable from birth
Baby carrier or sling
Parasol for pram
Raincover for car seat/pram
Sun blinds for car
Changing bag
Bodysuits x 10
Sleepsuits x 10
Cardigans x 2
Scratch mittens x 2
Socks
Hat
Bouncer/rocking cradle
Play/activity mat
Rattles
Musical toys
Pram toys
Car seat arch
Nursery furniture

Is there anything in that list that's superfluous? Or that I've missed?

And what size baby clothes do I need? I'm not sure whether to buy newborn or just 0-3. Thank you!

Mileymoocow · 13/04/2016 17:09

jam your cervix spots just made me cross my legs and twitch!

leonie bloody he'll! That's quite a list! What's a mattress pad? We're not getting as many blankets as that but we will be using gro bags mainly! And we're getting a range of clothes right from first size to 6 months. I know we will get a lot bought for us and from my friends experience have decided not to buy much at all as a lot of it is outgrown before they get a chance to wear it all.

Pinklily1 · 13/04/2016 17:18

Leonie, loving the list! I'd personally take off the nappy pail (I intend to just put them straight in the bin) and also the scratch mitts. Most of my friends have said their babies wouldn't keep them on, and you can get baby grows now which have build in mitts, so you just turn the sleeve down further over babies arm/hand. I know M&S do them.

In terms of size of clothes, I'm going with newborn and 0-3 months but we aren't going to buy much until we know how big baby is when she comes out!!

BunchOfBobs · 13/04/2016 18:12

Leonie I love a list and yours is amazing. I've personally just got 0-3 and 3-6 month stuff as I'm expecting to birth a beast but I think I'll get the coming home outfit in a variety of sizes just incase- I can always sell what doesn't fit.

I wouldn't be buying toys just yet but that's my personal preference, they won't need them for a few months and I'm sure I'll be bought some. Brush and comb also not necessary also a brush can be useful with cradle cap. Toiletries not recommended to use until 8 weeks as they have such sensitive skin but again that's personal preference.
You may not need a separate monitor/ room thermometer/ nightlight as most I've looked at do all 3- Angel care specifically.

Also not sure what a mattress pad is, but again I LOVE your list Smile

Jamjar12 · 13/04/2016 19:39

From friends who've had babies- they've all said to not buy 0-3 month clothes yourselves as that's what everyone buys for you, they grow out of them pretty quickly if they're bigger when born and you pretty much end up dressing them in babygros for the first few months anyway!

IndiX · 13/04/2016 22:02

Leonie I've just copied and pasted that list in to my notes. I have no idea really what to buy except for the obvious so any help is welcome. Love the list!!

StarkyTheDirewolf · 13/04/2016 22:40

Hellooooo! That is an excellent list! Hope everyone is well!

After my awful day yesterday I've had a day of absolutely no symptoms at all. I'm not sure how I feel about it really. Booking in appt was uneventful but nice. Met my midwife who is ace, discussed homebirth and she taught me some basic hypnobirthing calming techniques as I got a bit worked up briefly. All blood tests etc get done at the hospital at the 12 week bit. So nothing much to report.

Anyone else struggled with headaches though? I can't tell whether it's because I'm letting myself get dehydrated or if I've got a cold, or if I need to get my eyes tested!
