Well, that was a waste of time. Waited at the doctors for half an hour (feeling increasingly faint!), only to be called in by the nurse who told me they don't do flu jabs at this time of year! So why on earth did the midwife (in the same health centre) tell me to book one, and why did the receptionist, who spoke to a nurse on the phone to check, go ahead and book it?! Grrrr. Annoyed, as I planned my week's shifts around this and have been worrying about it for days too. Rant over.

Fairground glad your scan went well! Figgy obviously they have different rules at your GP! Fx for your scan on Thurs!

Northernlight22 · 29/03/2016 15:31

Finally can relax a tiny bit today! 12 week scan and all is well 😊 Due date 12th October.

I've just been looking at my pregnancy notes and I see there's a note in there that I've been advised to take low dose aspirin from 12 weeks - anyone else doing this?

BadlyWrittenPoem · 29/03/2016 17:00

I thought they didn't have them in beyond November so never even considered the flu jab. I had flu last year and 2011 so I'm hoping that reduces my risk anyway.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 29/03/2016 17:02

Northern does it say why? I've heard of it being used for recurrent miscarriage, clotting issues and pre eclampsia.

Northernlight22 · 29/03/2016 17:12

Nothing to say why, no.

pod100 · 29/03/2016 18:04

Ah goldenpineapple that's so annoying! I was told by the receptionist that I needed a flu jab too. Midwife wrote in my notes that she had told me about the jab and ticked the box to say I'd had it - she never even discussed it with me at my appointment!! I'll be bringing it up when I see her again this week!

IndiX · 29/03/2016 18:36

Northern I've been prescribed it too as my mum had severe pre-eclampsia when she was pregnant with me. I don't like taking tablets though so may give them a miss until I have my next midwife appt at 16 weeks and she can check my urine sample and blood pressure etc

Tacoyaki · 29/03/2016 18:58

Goldenpineapple I had the exact same problem today. I was speaking to the EPAU anyway and asked a doctor there how important the flu shot was and she said she didn't know and to make a telephone appointment with my doctor to discuss. The receptionist also thought some pharmacies do them, but it just seems bizarre that the midwife recommended it, and the surgeries don't do it now, especially as everything else has been quite linked up so far.

Afreshstartplease · 29/03/2016 19:05

I had my flu jab in February

Saw gp for something else but as soon as mentioned pregnancy she insisted!

11+3 today

10 sleeps til scan

So tonight on the train home I coughed, nearly threw up and nearly pissed myself all at the same time

I am well sexy

pod100 · 29/03/2016 19:32

Grin Grin Grin

Figgygal · 29/03/2016 19:38

Oh dear fresh! You've reminded me to dog pelvic floors at least. Hope you feel better now.

Afreshstartplease · 29/03/2016 19:41

I don't

Threw up the days food once I got in

Now I'm starving but keep heaving

Peppaspants · 29/03/2016 20:01

Scan went well today, put me at 13 weeks, a couple of days earlier than I thought, and a due date of 5th of October. Having the combined test so waiting for the results, but would anyone who has had the NIFTY test mind describing what it involved and what the results were like (if you don't mind). I am thinking of having it done either way as I am a 'geriatric mother' (ie 36!) and worried about the increased risk. TIA

evs34 · 29/03/2016 20:42

Hi peppa. I was advised to have nifty by our fetal med consultant as our last pregnancy had to end at 14 weeks because of patau syndrome. I am 38. It is a blood test taken from 10 weeks which looks for trisomy- downs, Edwards and patau. It can look for a whole load of other genetic problems too. Sample of my blood, sent to Hong Kong! They extract circulating baby DNa from that blood sample. Very sensitive and specific- 99% for downs I think and very high for other 2 - significantly better than combined/ triple/ quad test and good because can be done earlier. Cost 450 which included a scan first. Results are within 7-14 days. Given high or low risk. If high then I think cvs or amnio still advised.
Hope that helps xx

Peppaspants · 29/03/2016 21:22

Hi evs that is really helpful thank you. Unless the combined comes back really low risk I think I might go for it. So even with that test the results are a risk factor not a definite yes/no answer? Sorry to bombard with questions but it's nice to be able to ask someone who has done it.

Gigglebert · 30/03/2016 06:21

Scan yesterday went went, baby was exceptionally active and gave the sonographer a tough time but she got the measurements she needed for dating after 20 mins and some gymnastics from me! And my due date is back to the 7th!

Morning sickness started here on Sunday, was on holiday with the family and had to spend the whole day in bed as I couldn't even keep down water! After my 10th time being sick we decided I needed to gt checked out and went to the local hospital but thankfully they didn't admit me, though agreed it was morning sickness and I now have anti nausea meds!!

Alwaysinahurrynow · 30/03/2016 07:14

No risk based test is 100% accurate. The Harmony/NiFTy test has a better accuracy and lower false positive rate than the nuchal translucency test. The only 100% accurate tests are the invasive ones but clearly they carry their own risks.

MyBreadIsEggy · 30/03/2016 07:40

Sorry if TMI but:
10+5 today and feeling like I am ready to die Sad
I have stopped actively vomiting with help from Metoclopromide, but still feel constantly nauseous.
At the other end of the spectrum, I'm either horribly constipated or have awful diarrhoea - can't remember the last time I had a pleasant poo Sad
Does anyone else feel just generally ill all the time?? I'm starting to worry that I'm getting shingles again, as this is how it started when I've had it before - I got it around this time when I was pregnant with DD. Haven't noticed any raised patches or spots yet though, so that's a good sign I guess!

IrisPurple1 · 30/03/2016 08:10

Thanks everyone for the replies about not feeling guilty cancelling plans. I feel less guilty now, just hope I have good news to share in 2 weeks.

BigPigLittlePig I don't envy you working a 60 hr week, how on earth do you do it?

Tallblue it sounds like you're getting the same virus I had, just try and keep your temperature down. Cold flannel worked well, and a fan in the bedroom as I overheated at night.

fairground and Northern congrats on the successful scans! I can't believe everything the trouble some of you have had getting good a scan date, it's terrible!

evs34 · 30/03/2016 08:26

Peppa- yes, still given risk but if it is high risk there is only a 1:2000 chance that baby is " normal " it will replace invasive testing with time I think. Still important to have nuchal though because this is indicator of other issues too- cardiac problems etc. it's a minefield isn't it? It's tempting to want every test available! We will be broke by the end but I just need as much info as possible - good or bad. Hopefully results back for me tomorrow. Can't face the thought of having to make awful choice about ending another pregnancy so wishing and praying. I think you have to do what feels right for you and your pregnancy- everyone is different. Xx

dottydimples · 30/03/2016 08:33

Northern - I've been prescribed aspirin from 12 weeks too. I think it's because my sister has a blood clotting condition that resulted in her having a very early labour at 24 weeks and sadly the baby didn't make it. To be honest I'm worried if I take the aspirin and worried if I don't! Im just going to go on the fact that a consultant prescribed me them so she must know what she's doing...right?

In other news - DP has giving me a sodding cold! Can I take anything for this? My head feels like it's been run over by a bus Sad

Good luck to all scans this week and people still waiting to find out their scan dates!

evs34 · 30/03/2016 08:38

On a more positive note we found heartbeat with Doppler last night. Also the cat caught the mouse we had in our kitchen! Happy days! Xx

pod100 · 30/03/2016 08:43

So sorry to hear some of you are feeling unwell. Without sounding weird, the last few days have been the opposite for me and it's making me feel worried. No nausea, no sore boobs, hardly any tiredness, appetite's back, skin is starting to clear up... I'm starting to feel 'normal' again and it's making me think something is wrong Sad

evs34 · 30/03/2016 08:53

Pod - how many weeks are you? Try not to worry. Enjoy the couple of days you might have as your likely to feel rancid again at any point!!

evs34 · 30/03/2016 08:56

Dotty- poor you. Paracetamol, honey, lemon ( and a teeny tiny bit of something stronger before bed?!?! ) I'm not looking forward to the virus whilst pregnant faff as I usually dose up to the max with anything I can get my hands on!
