Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Alocin · 29/01/2007 19:26

he he he! My dh 'tidies me up' with the electric razor, as I lost sight of down there a while back, he does a very professional job!

KatPoo · 29/01/2007 20:07

He He. . . . glad to see we are all struggling with our bikini lines!!!!! Managed mine using a mirror & imac. . . . not easy!!!!
Had nice 1st day off on maternity leave - did a few jobs round house & new dishwasher arrived - hurray!!!!
DS1 had a hopi ear candle treatment - supposed to help glue ear, which he has a mild form of. Loosend loads of wax (TMI!!!!) so hope his hearing improves. Taking him on a tram ride tomorrow. . . .

qsack · 29/01/2007 20:16

oh man, it looks like i might have to brave the beauty salon and go for a bikini wax, just have to warn her of the horrors down below! anyone else going for some pampering before the big day? MIL offered to pay for a pedicure this week so now i'm hoping i'll hold out till then. i know they say that massaging your feet can bring on labour, so bring it on!!!

peachygirl · 29/01/2007 21:31

A pedicure would be lovely, Just don't let them put on any varnish on Qsack.
My friend who had a emergency C secton had several people wiping it off her toes at top speed. on an finger nails changing colour can indicate early problems.

thanks for the tip. i wondered about that as my sis did mine the other day. i'd better take it off tonight just in case!

Bienchen · 30/01/2007 07:59

Like a few of you I'm trying to sort out waxing. My legs are badly in need of a wax although I have to say that hairgrowth on legs really has slowed down since autumn - one of the more positive sides of pg?

My TENS machine arrived yesterday, just checked that all the bits are complete and will do a trial run in a few days. Anyone else bother with a TENS? I put it on late last time and it did not really do much for me but you are supposed to use for very early labour twinges already, so I'll try to remember this time

Sorry to hear that some of you are so uncomfortable as I am reasonably ok, just rather tired from pm onwards. Then again, I worry about baby's position as it did move a lot on Sunday night for about an hour but I dare not get too excited. Scan on Thu and hopefully it is no longer breech.

SmudgeMum · 30/01/2007 09:24

Morning, I've hired a TENS machine Bienchen. I had quite a sore back last night so gave it a try and it seemed to help. Saying that, the sore back didn't develop into anything........
Planning to clean the upstairs and do the ironing this morning - good intentions and all that. I'll probably be on here all morning now to avoid getting on with it! Hope everyone has a good day.

snugglebumnappies · 30/01/2007 09:27

Hi everyone, just dropping in, have just about managed to keep up with the thread but it moves so fast! Had a difficult week, found out DS was being severley bullied at one of his support groups by an older child, took the bull by the horns and contacted one of the group leaders who sorted it all out for us yesterday and we even got an appology from the child which has made DS feel much better. Child's parents have also been informed as he had been saying to his mum that DS had been calling her all sorts of horrible names and had just made that up to get DS into trouble and take the heat of him. This was what had made me suspicious that something was going on as the language this child used was not something DS would have said. Anyway feeling much more relaxed baout the whole thing now.

As for waxing etc, I could never give a monkeys when looking after a woman in labour, just didn't notice, a fanny is a fanny as far as most midwives are concerned, honestly! That said when I went into labour with DD the first thing I did was make sure my legs and bikini area were ok.......it ridiculous as I knew I wouldn't have been bothered as a midwife but I had to do it for me! One thing I would do if going for an elective cs is get DH or someone I trusted to do the "top trimming" as if it is done at the hospital (some hospitals don't bother with this any more though) they tend to use a nasty scratchy disposible razor and no shaving foam, ouch!!

Am going for a scan this afternoon to see what this shild is up to, I am pretty sure he is still frank breech but must be folded up very tightly as my fundal height is only about 29 weeks and I am 36+1 today (don't forget the ever so important 1!) so am wanting to find out if there is any reason for him being breech so I can make my final birth plans.

Had some really stong lower abdominal pains/tightenings across my cs scar yesterday, has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it was cos I had been sat in the car for a while and not only was the seatbelt digging into this area but my knickers had rolled down off my bump and were digging in aswell, good job it was drak so no one could see me desperatly digging around in my jeans trying to hook my knickers back up! Should really by some huge bump covering one but don't want to splash out too much cash on something that I will deff only wear for a few more weeks!

MoosMa · 30/01/2007 09:38

Bienchen, I've hired a TENS this time. I used the one in the hosp as I was in right from the start being induced last time, I found it worked for a good few hours, just taking the peaks off the contractions and making them bearable.

Tommy · 30/01/2007 09:44

Morning all

DS1 is poorly today and off school
DH still at work with the decorating.
I am panicking again that I'm going to go into labour this week - I'm sure I won't but I want to be nesting but can't cos the bedroom is such a mess. I have boxes of baby things in different places around th house. I know where they all are but don't know whether I would remember when I'm in labour and can't trust DH to find anything.

Need cheering up big time today please!

MoosMa · 30/01/2007 11:19

I tried drinking some raspberry leaf tea last night but had a bit of a reaction to it - my mouth got all sore and my tongue swelled up (I do remember getting a rash on my hands when I was little when I fed some raspberry leaves to a caterpillar) so if anybody wants any, I have a box minus one bag which I can send if you'll drink it, seems a shame to waste.

SmudgeMum · 30/01/2007 11:38

Tommy - I've been busy in the kitchen and made a beautiful lemon drizzle cake - sending a piece with a cup of tea to you right now and a piece for DS too. DH can only have some when he's finished the decorating!

Moosma - doesn't sound good about the reaction to raspberry tea. Better stick to hot chocolate

Snugglebumnappies good luck with the scan. I saw MW yesterday and she said I'm still measuring 37 although 39+3 but said that's prob because the baby has dropped down a bit more. Perhaps your LO is sitting with his bum in your pelvis

SmudgeMum · 30/01/2007 11:45

Meant to say also. You know all the conversations we were having about names. What do you do if DH decides he really likes a name that your not sure about. It's an ok name and can imagine quite cute but what about when the LO grows up?

Babe · 30/01/2007 12:13

Oh no, bikini wax? Well I'm just going to assume that since I can't see anything over the bump that it can't be THAT wild down there. And since I plan to be in the water for the final part there won't be too much time to scare the midwives.

However, I am determined to get my hair colour done at the end of this week (the grey is definitely showing through too much, and last time I ended up looking like Bill Bailey for much of the early weeks until I got my act together and managed to get to the hairdresser.

I finish work tomorrow, and am determined to have the week before my due date to spend reading and lying around (oh and looking after DS when he's not at nursery). How annoyed will I be if I go into labour early...?

andyrobo237 · 30/01/2007 12:15

We are a chatty lot aren't we - everyone must be off on mat leave now! Gotta fill the time in somehow.

Went to docs for more insulin - can't believe how narky the doc was (more than usual!!). The hosp havent told them I am on insulin - don't know why I am surprised really, but he humphed and eventually wrote the prescription - I then had the cheek to ask for some gaviscon and got a lecture for not taking too much as it can put your blood pressure up - never heard that before but I have been through bottles so far and my bp is fine!!

Got a few little jobs to do this afternoon - in between tv viewing and catch up on sunday papers! I would love a piece of the cake with my coffee later - just as well it is virtual cake!!

snugglebumnappies · 30/01/2007 12:42

Andyrob what a load of C@£@!P your GP was talking, theoretically Gaviscon can raise you BP as it has sodium bicarb as an ingredient but to be at risk you would have to have taken an impossible ammount of have a kidney defect! The only other thing I know of taking a bit too much is that it will make your stomach contents too alkaline therefore you body will countercat this by producing more acid!

thelittlestboho · 30/01/2007 13:52

Hello Peeps, all this chat of leg/bikini lines, making me laugh. We're obv all in same frame of mind at mo, I shaved my legs in shower yesterday morning, which ended up with me rolling around on bottom of said shower, grunting like a warthog attempting to reach the impossible, ended up hollering to partner to rescue me as I couldn't get back up. Haha, if you don't laugh you cry I guess. My MIL has a beautician's but I never really utilise it, which I suppose I should, she always offers but I can't be doing with people poking and prodding me tbh. Went to hospital yesterday for check up as my anaemia was bad, had a count of 7, a few weeks ago, but we've managed to stabilise it and it's sitting at 10.3 now. Gold star for me, yay.

Anyone forgotten that they were pregnant? Reason I ask is that I did the most no-brainer thing yesterday afternoon, I was fussing over my bed, arranging the cushions, tweaking duvet etc: (aka nesting) and because the cover had a bit of a crease in it, I, without even hesistating decided I would smooth it out by flinging myself on bed belly first, while straightening it out. OMG, on impact I remember, belly flops are not possible!! What an idiot!! Still have no idea why it slipped my mind that I was heavy with child. Most strange, I didn't hurt myself but did get a shock. What was all that about?? Made me chuckle afterwards though at my stupidity. Anyone else done similiar things?

soundbites · 30/01/2007 14:04

Hello ladies

Oh, the trials and tribulations of maternity leave ? the carpet cleaner is supposed to be coming this afternoon - one of those jobs that it seemed sensible to have done while I was off! He was meant to come on Friday but had to cancel because his van had broken down. He has just called to warn me that the van is still not ready, and I have agreed with him that if it gets too late that he will just do the ground floor which needs cleaning the most. I have moved bits of furniture and everything and don't fancy having to move them back and away again if we make another date. He has been recommended to us, and I know this hiccup is not his fault but it is frustrating. At least I am on maternity leave and haven't taken time off for it!

Otherwise all is well. Not an awful lot happening here - just waiting for the baby who, to be fair, is not really due until Thursday. But I was just so sure it would arrive a little early! It is our wedding anniversary tomorrow (3 years!) and we plan to go for a meal. There is an Indian restaurant that DH has been to before which he has suggested - a curry to help encourage labour! I also have my last midwife appointment tomorrow afternoon when they will make the appointment with the hospital to induce me at 12 (or is it 13?) days overdue if it comes to that. I sincerely hope that is one appointment I will not be keeping!

I am also very curious to find out what we get now! Everyone thinks it is a boy because of ' the way I am carrying'. DH also thinks it must be a boy. I had thought it had to be a girl, largely because our side of the family seems to have girls (!) but it would be a good time for a change too.

Anyway, enough from me - take care all of you!
xx

suis · 30/01/2007 14:24

I've done the forgetting thing a few times, though not maybe to such good effect, but I do keep running the bump into the edges of doors, skin units etc. In fact yesterday I discovered that I can no longer lean over the skin to rinse my teeth due to the big bit in the way.

Tommy - hang in there... it will all get sorted out soon and when it does you are going to feel a great sense of satisfaction that's been done right. I can sympathise as I was up to 3am last night cleaning the kitchen because it had been left untidy and dirty for days and it was just making me unsettled and down. Once it was finished I went to bed and slept pretty damn soundly, which isn't like me these days. So just look forward to the great relief when it's done.

Sallyallyally · 30/01/2007 15:06

Well..this is a pretty kettle of fish. Just got back from a/n appt. Saw lovely GP and midwife, both of whom am on first name terms with. Both immensely surprised to see me...after check last week they had me down as a definate imminent delivery. Head has remained fully engaged, irregular pains still happening.Anyway, had a good old palpate and commented on how easy baby is to feel because my bump is huge and all baby. (I am 5'4" medium build). Then we had to sit down for a serious talk! Estimating weight at 9.5 to 10lbs currently!!!!!!! . I am not really that surprised as I have spent a lifetime looking at ladies tummies and was aware that this was pretty big..DD was 7lb 14oz and forceps! I know midwives/GPs can be way out on estimates, but I have to agree with them..we are right on the top of the centile charts and you can feel all limbs and no squashy bits. Its ALL baby. Anyway it has been tactfully suggested to me that when I have my postmaturity clinic appointmnet next week, we discuss potential modes of delivery in view of size!!! So there may be a reason why the labour thing seems to be a bit stop and start! Never mind...it'll happen one way or another.

bubblebell1 · 30/01/2007 15:18

glad everyone is ok! cant believe i have only a week to go.

im booked in for a cs tuesday and im really nervous, not about having 2 ds' but the op. do you think this is normal? has anyone had a cs before and have u got any pearls of wisdom u want to pass on?

qsack · 30/01/2007 18:32

i had a pregnancy forgetting moment last week at swimming lessons. it was raining pretty hard so i said to my MIL who was helping out, you stay here with the boys and i'll get the car. So i proceeded to run to the car, so as not to get too wet, like you do normally, when i was struck after a few strides that this so wasn't going to happen and that it all really hurt to run or even walk fast! 39 wks today so not much longer hopefully.

ps. going to attack myself with the imac tonight and will save waxing till after the delivery when things have healed a bit. xx

TuttiFrutti · 30/01/2007 18:32

Bubblebell, I had a cs last time and am booked for one again on Friday week.

Words of wisdom? Oooh I don't know, it's all a bit hazy in my memory despite being less than 2 years ago, but don't do too much too soon, get lots of home-cooked meals in your freezer now and have takeaway menus at the ready, and take arnica before and after the cs. Take lots of healthy snacks into the hospital, like dried apricots or nuts and raisins. You will be constipated afterwards and these will help get things moving, as well as satisfying your hunger pangs in between horrible hospital meals.

Also, if you need to drive before the mythical 6 week deadline, call your insurance company and see what their policy is. Most will let you drive long before 6 weeks but some require a doctor's note and some don't.

hairycaterpillar · 30/01/2007 19:30

Hoorah Hoorah I'm on maternity leave, today was last day thankfully! I got a HUGE basket of flowers which I totally wasnt expecting and so of course had to do the obligatory hormonally unbalanced pregnant woman thing and burst into tears !

Ds decided today that he would only go to nursery naked! As time ticked by and I knew I was going to now be late on my last day tantrums ensued despite all the tricks in the books I couldnt persuade or force him to get his clothes on. Eventually i gave in and bundled him naked into the car . Thankfully he seemed a bit mortified by the time we got to nursery he put his clothes on before going in...no idea what i'd of done if he'd still insisted on being naked!!

No word from babycat...wonder if she's popped, it was sounding hopeful!

17 days to go...have given up counting in "weeks" "days" sounds much shorter!!

Tommy · 30/01/2007 19:57

hello again - thank you for all your kind thoughts!

Our internet connection has ben down most of the day as well as we've changed from one provider to another but all seems OK now. Thanks smudgemum for the cake Fortunately DS1's food faddiness extends to cake and he wouldn't like it so I had his piece - hope that's OK I've actually been thinking of making a RL lemon drizzle cake - I've even got the recipe from one of the threads so will have a go at that sometime.

Suis - know what you mean about sleeping better when everything is done - my baby bits and bobs are all now in the same place (on the landing) and the homebirth kit and all the extras are in our room. DH nearly finished the wardrobes and PILs are coming on Thursday to help put the curtains up.

Feel better but just knackered as have been rushing around all day - need to take it easy I think

Can't believe some of you are so close - I'm getting excited for you
