hairycaterpillar · 25/01/2007 13:25

CONGRATULATIONS Mummy2jake, glad to hear your wee boy is here safely, look forward to hearing your story.

Who's gonna be next ????????????

sorkycake · 25/01/2007 13:26

Ooh well done mummytojake, you star!! Any names yet?
Peachy I can understand where you're coming from on the weighing up risks of l-term damage, I work with disabled kids and have no idea how some parents manage I'll be honest.
On the OP thing. My ds was posterior lie right up until labour, he turned during, but I wasn't told this by the midwife until afterwards and must just have instinctively known what to do to make the labour easier. He was 6 hours from first twinge to birth, no pain relief except the water, on all fours over the birth ball until 7cm when I got in the pool after having my waters broken. I had no back pain at all due to be being on all fours, which m/w said after is the key.
First babies are generally longer labours anyway so a posterior baby wouldn't necessarily be the reason why you would have a protracted labour as I understand it. Dd took 22 hours to arrive with ++medical meddling and everyone exhausted. I just put it down to awkwardness on her part (she's not stopped since) and the fact she was my first.
That Cocoon item is gorgeous btw and I've just ordered it!

MoosMa · 25/01/2007 13:34

Where's CurrantBun?

peachygirl · 25/01/2007 15:50

Moos ma I wondered about currentbun this morning.
As the owner of the cocoon It is very good quality, soft and looks very warm. I'm glad other think so. It has turnover built in mittens too.
I'm back from aquanatal and I feel really very good. only two of us ladies in the class so we had a nice chat with the instructor. No movement from baby though not a sausage!!

Hello Everyone!

I'm sorry I haven't been on to read or write posts - Congratulations to Mummy2Jake! When was your LO due? Has anyone else delivered yet?

How is everyone?

All is ok with us. Jacob, as you know, was born 8 weeks early. He remains in Special Care Baby Unit and is now 3 1/2 weeks old. He has gone up from 5 pounds and 1 ounce to 5 pounds and 13 ounces in the 3 weeks and is doing really well, just gaining weight and learning how to breast feed. He is very content, sleeping, pooing and weeing all day whilst we feel like wrecks! The day works on military precision, visiting Jacob, doing his cares (feeding, nappy, washing etc) 3 to 4 times a day, catching up on sleep in between, breast pumping (not the greatest joy I've ever known!!) and eating occasionally!! We just cannot wait until Jacob comes home - it always seems to be a couple of weeks away - I keep consoling myself with the fact that even now, he'd be a month early!

Hope you are all ok and surviving the last few days, weeks or month!

xx

Congrats to MummytoJake! And well done for coping to Plumpbump, not long now til you have him home, and you'll never have to do anything as traumatic again.

sorkycake · 25/01/2007 18:15

So nice to hear from you Plumpbump .

Tommy · 25/01/2007 19:18

lovelt to hear from you plumpbump and congratualations to mummy2jake!

I had my homebirth box delivered yesterday and MW gave me lists of things I need to get in and what to do when I start labour!! All seem a bit near now but I am at least feelng slightly less anxious about it all.

Did a bit of shopping with DH today while DS2 was at nursery. Managed to order the new carpet for the bedroom (not sure how good an idea this is when preparing for a homebirth ) bought a big ball (Tesco £5) and one those snuggly buggy things (a bit like this which was reduced from £40 to £25 in Mothercare! (and I had a £15 voucher so got a great bargain )

Hope everyone is feeling OK - I ma very achey at the tops of my legs so should go and have a lie down now - or find a pump and get this ball blown up!

peachygirl · 25/01/2007 19:20

Hi Plumpbump lovely to hear from you.

OP posts:
Bienchen · 25/01/2007 19:49

COngratulations Mummy2Jake - glad to hear you are both well.

Plumpbump - good to hear you and Jacob are getting on ok. I'm sure he'll be home soon and you can finally enjoy a bit of normality.

DP & I did a bit of shopping today, last things on baby list. Did a mixture of John Lewis, Mothercare, Jojomaman and Boots and I think we are just about there. I still need to get a few wraps for the Totsbots nappies I bought secondhand (plus a bucket) but we also bought a pack of disposables for the first few days. Any recommendations re wraps Snugglebumnappies as I don't like the horrid plastic pants Boots are selling?

MoosMa · 25/01/2007 20:08

Bienchen, I use Motherease air-flow wrps with tots bots nappies, they fit nicely over them and are really easy to do up (even on wriggly bottoms!) as they have poppers.

Nice to hear from you Plumpbump, hope you have Jacob home with you soon and can enjoy him properly

leahsmum · 25/01/2007 20:18

CONGRATULATIONS Mummy2Jake!!! Look forward to reading your birth story.
Hope everything goes ok for you and your LO titchy.
Glad all is well Plumpbump.

Sorry if I've missed anyones good news.
Think everyone seems to be getting abit fed up - we all appear to be clinging to the slightest notion that labour may be close! I know I certainly am!!I have just under 3 weeks and am hoping to get the next week or so by to allow me to finish getting organised then I'll be quite happy for LO to arrive.

suzi2 · 25/01/2007 21:09

Congrats Mummy2Jake .

Lovely to get an update plumpbump - hope your wee man is home soon.

Tommy, just out of interest what did your mw suggest you get in for your homebirth? All mine mentioned was something plastic such as a shower curtain. I've got more than that as I have a pool etc too. But other than pool stuff I don't have much!

Saw the mw today. She's pretty sure baby is head down. But at first found her head at the top of my bump. She got another mw to check too who was also pretty sure she was head down. neither are totally convinced though! We often had this with DS as apparently he had a "boney, headlike bum" . Shame boney bottoms aren't from my side of the family! BP a shade high as suspected but everything else was OK. Finally measuring a bit more reasonable - only 3cm over. MW has told me to keep my legs crossed until 38wks for the homebirth even though I have all the kit. Had a sneaky look in the boxes and was amazed with the array of things! My next bounty pack was in one and I'm really itching to know what freebies are in it lol. See the mw in 2 wks.

I seem to be fine all day but niggle with BHs all evening. Pretty sure she's not coming before 39 wks though. Which would suit me just fine at the moment as I'm enjoying the last few weeks of relative calm. I'm trying to take the nesting a bit easier as I seem to have bruised a rib or pulled a rib muscle under my boob. Absolute agony if I lift DS or cough. So trying to heal it before baby comes along...

leahsmum · 25/01/2007 22:03

Sorry to change the tone of 2days chat but is it just me or does any1 else get loads of painful movements and KNUF at night!! I always get bad KNUF when I'm in bed at night on the laptop!! Oh and the constant need to pee! Its been happening the past 3 nights!

sorkycake · 25/01/2007 22:18

D'ya know what - I'm gutted! I think I've managed to convince myself that I'm actually due now and I'm not . I'm 38+3 and could not be more sick I reckon. M/w has told me that she will not go against new guidelines which suggest that a sweep before 40+7 is ineffective. I get the distinct feeling and have done all along that she wants me to go to hospital as that's where she is obviously more comfortable, she knows my pool is due to be returned at 2weeks over and said if I get to the sweep and it doesn't work within 24 hours or so then I should be induced at +10 days. I've told her categorically NO! It really does feel like everytime I see her she always ends the appt with a warning and reminder of you and when to ring and the problems I should be aware of. She's seriously pissing me off! sniff!

sorkycake · 25/01/2007 22:20

who not you, ffs, just shoot me now.

MrsJohnCusack · 25/01/2007 22:27

ooh congratulations to mummy2Jake and thanks for the update plumpbump

sorkycake - stick to your guns.

sorkycake · 25/01/2007 22:32

Cheers MrsJC, did I note you had an audition? How'd it go.
Don't mean to be inappropriate either but I've always had a thing for your husband!
Ever since my teens, noone ever understood why, when there was James Spader, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe etc, but John Cusack always did it for me

Tommy · 25/01/2007 22:46

suzi2 - she mentioned old towels to put on top of waterproofing for comfort (I alo got a tarpaulin in Tescos today - about £2!), hot water bottles to wrap baby's towels in and some of those disposable bed mats that usually go under a toddlers top sheet when night time nappy training - quite good for catching any mess apparently!

sorkycake - you may well find that the pool hire company are fine with you returning it late if your baby is very overdue. The TENS I hired for DS1 was very late back since he was more than 2 weeks late but they were fine with it. I know pools are a bit bigger and more expensive but surely they will understand?

Hang in there with the MW - I know I am really lucky with mine but then I have known her for about 35 years
