I was mightily impressed with my PIL after DD, they wanted to come the day after I was home from the hospital and lived about 3 1/2 hours away. I was a little wary but they arrived with BIL, champagne, food for everyone and left after 2 hours, then for MIL to return at my request once DH at gone back to work after paternity leave. My DP's were just as good, Dsis cleaned for us. although they didn't bring champagne

But seriously with a little guidance people can be really helpful.

DM was als good at not giving unwanted advice, although to be honest, I think as we parented quite simarly I was easy for her, had I been making widely different choices she might not have been able to bite her tongue so well.

bikingintherain · 22/03/2016 15:50

Excuse terrible spelling, I've clearly not recovered from last nights insomnia!

jellybelly85 · 22/03/2016 17:21

I've been busy at work today and am a little concerned that I've not noticed bumplestilskin (I'm trying out new nicknames) kicking... Baby has been pretty active the past couple of weeks, and it feels like much less so today. I'm 27 weeks 5 days today... Is it worth giving midwives a call?

nehagarg · 22/03/2016 17:28

Definitely jellybelly. Always always call if you are concerned. Drinking a cold glass of water and lying down might help. If you concentrate you might feel the baby. Maybe like you said, you've just been to busy to notice movements. Happens to me all the time. If you have a doppler try that too (not for the heartbeats). Mine hates the doppler and much as I hate to do it to him, if I dont feel him moving, I get my doppler out and he starts trying to kick it off. I figure 5 min of doppler is better than 20 min of monitoring at the hospital both of which produce sound waves and both of which he hates.

Panic over - bumpy had just done a few good solid kicks! I've saved the MAU telephone number for future reference, just in case. Thanks for advice nehagarg!

Spock27 · 22/03/2016 17:41

I agree jelly, for peace of mind at least you should get checked out. But try the cold drink thing first, I've heard drinking something cold and sugary can help, though mine always responds to a cup of tea! Hope all is OK :)

Started painting the nursery last night, should have done it ages ago - back is killing me! Still 8.5 weeks until mat leave starts, not sure if I'll survive as the spd is so bad :/

MollieRos · 22/03/2016 18:11

Glad he started kicking jelly and I'd agree with the others- always go and get checked out. My midwife told me off the other week because I said I'd had a morning when he hadn't moved and I was pondering whether I should ring them at lunch time when he started kicking again. She said even an hour or two which feels different to normal should be checked out (once you've had a cold drink and concentrated on movements for a while), and they're happy to do so.

My antenatal classes are very last minute- they're not till May, when I'll be 37 weeks!! Our only option was NCT in the end as the NHS classes were during the day for 8 weeks, which is no good for DH as his work weren't amenable to him taking the time off. The only classes NCT were running were in May. So there's a good chance I won't even be pregnant by then I suppose!

I've felt dreadful today, my nausea seems to be coming back, with occasional throwing up too. I'm dreading it getting like it was at the start, when I was throwing up a couple of times a day- no fun at all.

MindfulBear · 23/03/2016 08:54

Those of you in pain it really is worth seeing an osteopath experienced with pregnant mums. I saw one last night. Slept really well and feel much more comfortable today.

She eased up my hip joint, did something with my pelvic floor, did some cranial work and she also jiggled my belly. Not entirely sure what she was doing but certainly feels more comfortable today.

She also said that she was shocked how many women put up with pain without seeing a Physio &/or osteopath. & how many midwives and Drs don't recommend seeing a physical therapist. As there is so much that can be done, especially if you start now (rather than 39 weeks like I did last time - was all a bit late!!)

I've also tried a body stress release practitioner. That was also very good.

Interestingly she also said that malpositiioning of the baby at birth may also be due to misalignment of the pelvis, hips and spine &/or stresses and strains in the muscle and other tissues. I am hoping that by seeing her regularly, as well as a reflexologist that I might avoid a back to back birth next time..... Here's hoping!!!

MindfulBear · 23/03/2016 09:00

We are not doing specific antenatal classes this time round but I am starting a yoga class, trying to hire a doula and I'm looking for a Hypnobirthing refresher. - not sure if there is such a thing!
I wanted to do NCT but they are only holding the refresher class during the day when I'm at work and as it lasts for 4 weeks I just can't do it. It is a shame as I would like to meet local mums. Hopefully the yoga class will help and if not I might do the NCT postnatal course later.

nehagarg · 23/03/2016 10:29

Glad all is well Jelly ... Its scary when they don't move. I have been to the hospital once already, in a panic but the midwives were super nice and told me to come in if ever I feel lack of movement or change in pattern. Never worry about bothering them as they would much rather see me and it be nothing.

That said, my kid doesnt seem to have any sort of regular timing or strength of movement. So far, I have learnt that he goes quiet for a couple of days if hubby and me have sex. And also that he will have days where he will move like a maniac, like yesterday I had very strong movements for a stretch of 3 hours and then medium for the rest of the day, non-stop. Today, he has kicked my ribs a few times this morning (which is his usual wake up time) but very lazily and has been largely quiet ever since. Probably zonked out from all the activity yesterday.

Its hard to know when to worry. That's why my midwife said I should go in if I am even slightly concerned.

Mollie, I hope you are feeling better today. Sounds horrendous for nausea to come back just when you thought you were rid of it. We are in the 3rd trimester for goodness' sake. First trimester symptoms have no business coming back!

Eastend2015 · 23/03/2016 12:40

Urgh am feeling on the queasy side too mollie and not much of a routine either jelly at 27+2- generally quiet mornings and movements mostly in the afternoons and evenings but the frequency and strength varies quite a lot. It is quite scary but worth talking to your midwife!

MollieRos · 23/03/2016 18:17

Oh no eastend sorry you're feeling sick too. I've been feeling sick again today but happily not actually thrown up, but I am a bit worried the nausea is back to stay. I've also had a low-level headache for about a week now, which is very tedious, and probably isn't helping the nausea.

I don't really have a strict pattern to movements, but generally it would be unusual for me not to feel any kicks at all for longer than an hour. He's currently hiccuping away in there having spent the last 10 mins booting my ribs, so he's obviously feeling wide awake Grin

Belleboo23 · 23/03/2016 19:15

Hope the nausea is just a blip and passes quickly for those suffering again.
Definitely just felt first lot of hiccups they were quite fast and she couldn't have liked it because there is now a lot of thrashing about going on in there!! Still had no call back from the midwife so just going to go mothercare and buy a support band from there. Today has been a painful one after I had to walk quickly to work from running late, definitely made it worse :(

Morning all, I'm sat here for my two hour wait for my GTT. Sooo bored!!! Feel quite lightheaded so can't do any reading. HUNGRY!!!!! I am going to FEAST after this 😂

strawberrypenguin · 24/03/2016 10:42

Hope the wait is nearly over for you emma it's horrible being sat there hungry.

DS was very cute this morning. He gave me a hug as I left for work then hugged bump and said 'see you later little brother' the big cutie!

MollieRos · 24/03/2016 13:16

I'm off work today, I still have a headache and I threw my breakfast up this morning, and just couldn't face work. Feeling very sorry for myself!

strawberry that's very cute, what a lovely big brother he'll be!

emma hope time went quickly for you!

mrsmugoo · 24/03/2016 13:49

This is my 2nd week out of the office! Last week was just such a horrific write off this week I've still got a disgusting cough and absolutely no energy for anything. Luckily I'm the boss so I can give myself permission to work from home this week while I get back on my feet.

Kicking myself for not getting a flu jab though!! Didn't think it would "matter" - how wrong I was! Cautionary tale for those questioning whether it's worth bothering with a whooping cough vaccine - you might think it won't happen to you, but don't take the risk!

nehagarg · 25/03/2016 06:52

Oh no Mrsmugoo. Hope you feel better and are on the mend. Glad you have the option to work from home at least. It was my saviour when I caught a bad cold and couldnt even speak!

Mollie Hope you are better too this morning.

Its been really quiet in here off late. Looks like people have migrated to Facebook. Smile

mrsmugoo · 25/03/2016 07:35

Thanks my dear - yes definitely almost fully recovered now but it was a full two week flu and really did knock me for six!

laughingGnomette · 25/03/2016 08:16

mindful - great ideas there! I'll definitely invest in an insulated mug with lid. I found tinned soups a life saver with my Velcro baby, I'd pour them into a mug and microwave. Lunch without the need for cutlery!

mrsmugoo - how rotten. I'm glad you're starting to feel better now, flu really is the pits.

I've been a bit quiet recently as I've been on holiday (Vienna). Boy, my pgp was a pain in the backside but I still had a lovely time, and....got ENGAGED!! Shock I really didn't see it coming but I'm thrilled.

mrsmugoo · 25/03/2016 08:22

Congrats Laughing! What amazing news!!
