Are bump bands what midwife/physio would recommend for spd aswell I'm trying to avoid going doctors haha. Finding it so hard to slow myself down when I walk makes me feel so unfit!!

MollieRos · 01/03/2016 21:28

Violet centiles are a score up to 100. If you're on the 50th centile that means you're bang on average. Any scores between the 16th and 84th centiles are considered to be within the average range Anything below the 16th centile is below average, and anything above 84 is above average.

As an example using height (which is easier to visualise!!), if you were on the 90th centile for height, it would mean that you're taller than 90% of women, and only 10% of women were taller than you (i.e. that you were quite tall).

My midwife told me that it bears almost no relation to birth weight- your bump size is influenced by loads of things e.g. how much fluid you have, the thickness of your placenta, and just how you carry it. They just track it to make sure your bump is still growing, so it's kind of a score to compare to itself, but doesn't really mean anything else. Your chart is also personal to you according to your height, weight etc, so two people's bumps may measure the same in cm but be on different centiles.

My bump is also on the 90th centile, which I found quite funny seeing as the midwife told me that in the same conversation as she was telling me I should be having extra growth scans to make sure my baby's growing enough as i have a low BMI Grin

I think the proper belts are whstvthe physio would recommend, bit they're quite expensive and didn't think my SPD type pain was severe enough. I thought I'd try these as have been having ligament pain on bump and hips as well as SPD aches. Dr gave me magnesium for the former, but it really upset my stomach and so bad to stop taking it. Bump bands don't cure the pain but do help I think.

laughingGnomette · 01/03/2016 22:35

Thanks Geneva! :)

bikingintherain · 01/03/2016 22:38

Violet as others have said, the percentile thing isn't anything to worry about. It may possibly give an idea of how big the baby is but it isn't accurate really. The reason they do it is it can help give an idea of if the baby is growing well.

For example, if you start on the 90th percentile for the first two appointments but then the next reappointments you start going lower to say 50% and then 10%, they want to send you for a scan just to check the baby is growing ok. It probably would mean nothing, maybe the baby had changed position or something, but it's one way that they use to help see if there might be any problems.

I had the other way with DD, she went over the 100% and kept looking much bigger than their normal range, and so I was scanned and it was discovered I had too much fluid and wasn't the baby being too big at all. All was fine it just meant then that they wanted to keep a bit of a closer eye on me, particularly during labour.

I haven't felt baby move at all today. I've tried everything. Going to call maternity unit. Freaking out.

Eastend2015 · 02/03/2016 00:04

Oh Emma I hope everything is ok? Have they said anything helpful? I'm sure you have tried the standard cold sugary drink/ lying on your side. Thinking of you!

sambababy · 02/03/2016 00:24

emma what did the maternity unit say? Have you been for a check? Hopefully baby is playing a naughty game of hide & seek.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Spd has gotten worse in the last 2 days and the end of the pregnancy is still so far away. I cried in Pilates. Felt like such a wally.

I never realised the centiles in the uk were based on bump measurements! That seems madness!

emma85x · 02/03/2016 00:45

Thank you ladies. I've just got home. Maternity Triage were fantastic, really supportive. Baby is absolutely fine and they said he's probably just in a hiding place. Really stressful though, I was so worried. The moral of the story... If in doubt, get checked out! With this darn anterior placenta, I think I might have a stressful 15 weeks ahead! Thanks again ladies xxxx

MindfulBear · 02/03/2016 00:48

The bravado bras are great to sleep in and for the first few weeks after LO arrives when you feel a bit touched out. However beyond that I got fed up of Mono boob so bought underwired Anita nursing bras from figleaves or hot milk non undervwired from my local lingerie shop.
I was a 34G last time tho which may have influenced things!!!!

MindfulBear · 02/03/2016 01:00

My local FB mums group all recommend these bags as change bags and General haul family life about.... Good value too!

www.twoqueenbees.co.uk/

However I always used a longchamp canvas tote with a double zip wet bag inside with nappies etc from thenappylady.co.uk
or like this one www.lizziesrealnappies.co.uk/index.cfm/product/monkey-foot-double-wet-bags-large-766.
Or
www.kingdomfluff.co.uk/alva-baby-wet-bags-c-231

These wet/dry bags are great as kids get older too and need changes of clothes for other reasons - mud, food etc!!!

nehagarg · 02/03/2016 06:41

Great news Emma. Glad all is well. Smile Its so scary not to feel the baby move.

Aww emma, so pleased all is well. Good on you for going in and getting it checked out.

Belleboo23 · 02/03/2016 07:04

Great news Emma, this is the first time I've had an anterior but mines high so I feel some movement but nowhere near like the other 2 it's very different

MollieRos · 02/03/2016 07:33

Really glad all's ok emma- must have been scary. You did the right thing to get checked out- the midwife was saying to me the other day they'd always rather people come in and get sent away with nothing wrong than people worry that they shouldn't ring triage.

emma85x · 02/03/2016 08:38

Thank you so much everyone. That's absolutely the message from Triage. If there's any worries at all, best to pop in and see them whatever the time is! DH and I felt so relieved just to have someone say 'baby is fine'. Thanks again lovely ladies. Wishing you all a wonderful day.

sambababy · 02/03/2016 09:33

Really glad all is ok Emma!

I've heard babymel bags are good. They certainly look nice! Not seen them in the flesh though so don't know how heavy they are.

GrubbyWindows · 02/03/2016 10:50

Oh Emma I am so glad it's all ok!!
And BOO to spd samba! You are not a wally for crying , it's grim to have to deal with that!!!

JellyBaby26 · 02/03/2016 11:59

I have a babymel bag and it's too small now I have to take food etc out and about!

clarish84 · 02/03/2016 14:39

Aww great news emma x

mrsmugoo · 02/03/2016 14:48

Changing bags: I was given a leather storksak last time which is great. Definitely not worth the money though, but I didn't buy it myself. But I stopped using it after about a year when I started using the maclaren more than the uppababy travel system and I just shoved nappies, wipes and snacks in my (massive) handbag.

JellyBaby26 · 02/03/2016 16:04

Is anyone using the gym or still exercising? I'm not but I asked DH to bring the cross trainer inside so I could use it. I have done zero exercise bar 10 mins of yoga so far so hope I can cope, I just hope it's not a bad thing to start exercise this late. But it can't be can it? So long as I take it easy?

Has anyone brought themselves the uppababy vista?

Potkettleblack2 · 02/03/2016 16:40

Jelly, I'm so lazy! I'm doing some swimming but that's it. I want to start being more active too. I think as long as you don't put too much pressure on yourself you'll be ok.

4 of my good friends have uppababy vistas and all think it's really super. I don't need a new pram, but if I did I would definitely think about that one.

laughingGnomette · 02/03/2016 17:31

I don't know if they still do it but Boots used to give away a free changing bag when you joined their parenting club and it's actually ok! Served me well for a year or so. After that I just used a generic back pack.

Heard good things about vistas. They are quite large but if space isn't an issue they look great. You can also attach another seat for a sibling I believe.

Hugs samba - SPD is horrible Flowers
