torfhinn I've used washable with all 3 of mine. Love my cheeky wipes they are absolutely fantastic and actually clean the poo off rather than smearing it around like wet wipes do. Using a combination of cloth wipes and nappies my children have never had nappy rash even when teething.

Nappies are a very personal choice. I use a mixture of bambino mio prefolds with milovia wraps, bambino mio all in ones, tots bots (easy fits and old fashioned bamboo) and Internet cheapies. DH was converted very quickly and I never even notice the extra wash every 3/4 days as we have so much laundry anyway.

Mine hasn't popped yet but it's looking ridiculous no doubt it will go soon, I've woken a few times on my back and I presume that's what is waking me my placenta is also anterior didn't realise it was so common I've been feeling much more movement the last cpl of days but it's so strange seeing baby move on a scan and not feeling it

Mrspopper · 26/02/2016 09:28

Biffle. Can I ask a stupid question? With the cheeky wipes do you wet them then put them in box/bag
Or wet them as you need them? I'm
Tempted!

mrsmugoo · 26/02/2016 09:55

Yes you wet a little stack of them at a time so you access them from the box pre-dampened like you would normal wipes.

Mrspopper · 26/02/2016 09:58

Brill. Thanks Magoo. Didn't do it this time around and the number i
of wipes are staggering!

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/02/2016 10:41

Probably too much information but when I'm walking I get pain (a bit like soreness, a bit like pressure) on my vulva. I guess it feels like riding a bike all day. Its only been for the past few days but is really uncomfortable at work where I'm on my feet for 5 hours each day.

Anybody know what it might be / experienced similar?

Mrspopper · 26/02/2016 10:54

Caterpillars I'm not an expert but sounds like it might be spd?

Torfhinn · 26/02/2016 12:36

I agree, sounds like spd 17, maybe have a chat with your midwife, see if you can get a physio referral.

Sorry to keep harping on about the reusables, but i still have questions! If i go for wipes only, would you really put them in the wash with your other clothes? That's why i then thought about reusable nappies also so all the dirty things can be washed together. Also, what do you do with the dirty nappies before they are washed? Do they not stink the house out? So many questions... Grin I've done my nappy lady survey grubby, just waiting to hear back!

nehagarg · 26/02/2016 12:52

I am watching this space very carefully. Have the exact same questions as Torfhinn .. the chemicals thing is making me change my mind about disposables.

mrsmugoo · 26/02/2016 13:07

I always washed the dirty wipes in with other cleaning cloths, I didn't do them with clothes.

laughingGnomette · 26/02/2016 13:20

torf - you can get nappy buckets (with lids) to store the dirties in. You can get liners for the nappy to catch the poo and flush down the toilet, so you won't have lots of poo going into your wash. When you're out and about you can use waterproof nappy bags to keep the smells in. I'm a newbie myself but know a few people who've used cloth nappies.

LouLou030783 · 26/02/2016 13:55

If it's ur vulva could be enlarged vein in the area my friend had this throughout her pregnancy and it killed her because vulva constantly felt sore

sambababy · 26/02/2016 15:14

17caterpillars it sounds like spd to me too. Try and see a physio or an osteopath if you can (or do I mean chiropractor? Erm). They can tell you what not to do to avoid making it worse. For me its having my weight on one leg, so I'm told to get out of bed landing on both feet, try not to go up stairs more than necessary, that kind of thing. I notice it more when I've been stationary for a while.

emma85 by nighttime I'm like a hot air balloon so my bump definitely looks bigger. I literally have to go and lie down and pffffffffffffffffff hahahahahahahaha

Sleeping on my back or not, this baby is always pressing on my fecking bladder

sambababy · 26/02/2016 15:22

I mean if I've been lying down or sitting for a while then get up to walk

BiffleRoo · 26/02/2016 17:28

mrs popper I use a box of them pre wet and then stuff a few in a wet bag or plastic tub when I go out. I don't use the cheeky wipes solution I make my own with water, sweet almond oil, one drop of chamomile and one drop of lavender.

GrubbyWindows · 26/02/2016 19:16

torf you put the dirty wipes in a box of water with tea tree oil in, which kills the germs- and you rinse off major blobs of poo in the loo. (Tiny new baby poo is very easily rinsable, and by the time you get to solids poo you'll be a pro).
Chucking them into a nappy bucket is easier though! (With the lid on it really isn't stinky, weirdly. You can add some lavender oil in the lid or something if you are worried too)
We actually have a funny douche shower thing which you hang next to the loo instead of a bidet, and it is super amazing for rinsing off poo. If your shower head will reach to the loo you can use that, it's great.
Nappy lady has some good video tutorials as well as her ace questionnaire.

Mrspopper · 26/02/2016 23:30

Thanks Biffle.

MollieRos · 27/02/2016 09:58

Grubby this is good info thank you! The cheeky wipes info talks about putting the dirty wipes in a box of water so the stains don't set. I was hoping to just rinse off the worst of the poo then chuck them in the nappy bin with the nappies rather than having a separate box, but that means they won't be soaking. (I'm not going to be soaking the nappies, just rinsing off any poo the liners didn't catch then storing them dry in the nappy bin till I wash them) Will that be ok for the cheeky wipes do you reckon? I'm trying to make things as un-faffy as possible Smile

Also, total over-thinking newbie question coming up... the only space for a changing unit is in the baby's room, though that's only about 6 feet from the bathroom. So I'm thinking we'll change the baby's bum, and get him in a clean nappy, but then how do you manage rinsing off the pooey nappy in the toilet? reasonable when he's newborn and isn't mobile, but once he's getting bigger and wriggly where do I put him so I don't have any poo/baby disasters? I realise this is a ridiculous question, but I have literally no experience of tiny babies and can't quite picture the logistics of how life goes on when you have one!! Grin

laughingGnomette · 27/02/2016 11:40

I'd just change the baby on a changing mat on the bathroom floor, then leave him on the mat while you rinse. If he rolls you won't have any issues.

GrubbyWindows · 27/02/2016 12:22

mollie totally fine to just chuck the wipes in the dry nappy bucket- that's what we did, and will do again.
We never had a changing table, just a mat on our bed when DS was tiny, the bathroom floor once he was more mobile. In the bed days, the nappy of doom went on the floor until we had a hand free to deal with it (painted wooden floors, so we were fairly cavalier about the risk of poo on the floor...).

strawberrypenguin · 27/02/2016 14:58

You don't need a changing table mollie obviously if you have one already then you can make use of it but a changing mat on the floor whenever you are is fine.

MollieRos · 27/02/2016 18:13

We don't have a changing table, we were just planning on getting a chest of drawers and using a changing mat on the top of it (you can get wooden edge things to screw onto the top of drawers so the changing mat doesn't slide off)

But what a good idea... how did I not think to just use the bathroom floor?! You lot might just be geniuses (genii?) Grin

mrsmugoo · 27/02/2016 18:52

Changing mat on the floor here too - I have a little box with nappies, wipes, bags, sudocrem in that gets moved around.

jbiscuits · 27/02/2016 20:52

We also use a mat in the floor. One of my tips though would be to have 2 changing mats, one upstairs and one down. Saves walking up and down the stairs all the time (although might be less practical if you're using reusables and need to rinse them).

Torfhinn · 27/02/2016 20:56

Changed newborn on the bed, baby/toddler on the floor, now we do a lot of standing changes as 'someone' refuses to lie down Grin You'll find what works for you, just trial and error.

Thanks for all the great advice on reusables everyone, it's really helped! I mentioned cloth nappies to dh and he is very anti (why would you want to make more work. ..), so im going to start with cheeky wipes for now. Thought i could put them on a seperate rinse before adding my normal washing.

Baby kicks have really stepped up a notch in the past 2 days, seems that little one is having a party in there! (Now 25+6)
