OMG, I don't know where this has come from (I can be so lazy) but I'm seriously considering converting to washable wipes and nappies Grin Any veterans out there with any advice? Cheeky wipes look good and have great reviews but don't even know where to start with cloth nappies...

GrubbyWindows · 25/02/2016 15:54

torf do the nappy lady questionnaire- she gives great free advice tailored to your particular situation.
www.thenappylady.co.uk/advice-questionnaire.html

And try a few- we didn't love all the ones we tried, so trying first, then buying the whole kit, worked for us.
Your council probably has a trial scheme, or grants- always worth checking!

Am in mOrocco now. Have a few work jaunts abroad till may that I will holiday around and plan to go away for a month in August till September, ideally after jabs. Want to take advantage of portability and grandparents on holiday. Am also hoping to breastfeed, which will eliminate luggage, although could be wishful thinking.
What would your packing list be?
Mine something like

  1. Hand luggage with my clothes, change of clothes breast pump/formula, bottles and laptop
  2. Big suitcase wit DD clothes, bottles, shoes, toiletries, books, baby carrier on top
  3. Either a YOyo or a Mama and Papas flip XT with a bag for extra DD tat. Still nowhere near deciding on strollers...
jellybelly85 · 25/02/2016 17:42

Yes sambababy if placenta is anterior and low it blocks the cervix - most women are offere c-section if placenta doesn't move. (Apparently the majority to move).

Mrspopper · 25/02/2016 17:45

Ohhhh love a holiday. Off to bluestone in wales with DD in March, then Norfolk in May and hopefully a hotel night away with OH. Then haven't thought about holiday with baby in tow... I'm sure we'll do something!

laughingGnomette · 25/02/2016 18:35

Go for it Torfhinn!
I think I'm going to try out a few like grubby did. Bumgenius sound like they might suit us well so I'm going to ask my Dad to bring some back from the states with him as they are cheaper out there.

JellyBaby26 · 25/02/2016 19:02

We use bambino mio all in ones and wraps and love them!

Torfhinn · 25/02/2016 20:26

Thanks for the nappy advice guys! Will definitely look at that website grubby. Unfortunately it seems our local council doesn't have an incentive scheme but lots do if anyone else is interested.

I have only mentioned reusable wipes to dh, to which i got a raised eyebrow. Once i listed the chemicals in disposibles, he seemed to come around a bit. I'll keep quiet about the nappies until he gets used to the idea Grin

nehagarg · 25/02/2016 20:32

My innie now looks like a puckering fish. Hmm

AmIseeingRight · 25/02/2016 20:41

quickly also they have £20 off when you spend 60 on first order with this code- VOU5703844

Belleboo23 · 25/02/2016 21:03

Thanks for the code going to check the sale out... My feet ache so much today and all I wear is sensible shoes!!
Just laying in bed watching my bump twitch, think she's having a little protest at me laying on my back!!

laughingGnomette · 25/02/2016 21:21

nehagarg GrinGrin

MollieRos · 25/02/2016 21:35

Haha nehagarg love that description! Grin My innie is now more of a dent, I wonder if it will be an outie by the end?!

I went for it earlier in the week and ordered some cloth nappies and washable wipes... feeling quite nervous about it but the thought of all the landfill from disposables is spurring me on. DH feels similar, but I think he's more squeamish about having to deal with pooey things, so he's even more apprehensive! On the plus side they had free next day delivery so we now have a stash of the cutest little fluffy cloth nappies Smile

nehagarg · 25/02/2016 22:05

Lol Mollie and Laughing. Please someone tell me it goes back to normal. I cant be stuck like this forever. Blush

GrubbyWindows · 25/02/2016 22:36

Don't worry neha it will! Mine is looking very odd just now, and has been looking perfectly normal in the intervening years since DS was born. I'd forgotten all about the weird belly button effect until it emerged again!

Re washable nappies and wipes- if you are in two minds, you can always just start with wipes. They are ace, you save a fortune, and if it works for you, you can move onto actual nappies. Gateway drug for us (and really convinced DP)...

sambababy · 25/02/2016 23:58

I'm afraid my belly button never quite went back to normal Blush but then it was never a complete inny to begin with. After DD it looked a bit stretched... And it's been trying to pop out this time since the early weeks argh.

I keep waking up on my back in the night, every time. I might try a pillow behind me. Can anyone remember why you shouldn't sleep on your back? Is it blood flow to baby or mum? Just want to make sure i can't be causing the baby any issues when it happens.

Eastend2015 · 26/02/2016 00:26

Samba no you won't cause any harm- the general advice seems to be sleep however you feel comfortable (and was confirmed by my midwife). I think as the bump gets bigger sleeping on your back may make you feel nauseous and some studies showed a minor decrease in blood flow to the placenta. Same if you sleep on your right side as there is a big artery there- now sleeping on my right side feels like it gives me a stitch. Anyway, best to sleep in your left side if you can but don't stress about it and just get as much sleep as you can!

nehagarg · 26/02/2016 06:59

Thanks grubby. Phew!

Samba your body will tell you when its time to move. As will the baby. I was perfectly comfy sleeping on my back and front until a few weeks ago but get dizzy now as soon as I am on my back, since about 25 weeks. And the baby makes it very clear if I have rolled over onto my front even a little bit and squashed his living quarters.

My midwife did say that sleeping on your back deprives both mum and baby of oxygen because uterus presses on the bladder but if its not making you dizzy yet, you are still ok as the baby is not yet heavy enough.

nehagarg · 26/02/2016 07:10

Not the bladder. The vena cava.

I am up way too early. Blush

Morning all, very excited last night as we bought our pram. We went for the Joolz Day which I've always liked since day 1 but I found a fantastic deal on eBay. It's practically like new. Was great fun last night trying out all the positions and practising with it around the flat.

Have a question though, as it is second hand, do you think I need to buy a new mattress for the carry cot like you would a second hand cot?

Belleboo23 · 26/02/2016 07:29

I would homebody carrycot ones don't cost much anyway, even just for peace of mind!

strawberrypenguin · 26/02/2016 07:31

My belly button never went quite back to normal either samba it's looking very stretched at the moment!
Re sleeping I wake on my back sometimes but I don't think I've been there long as I usually wake because it's making me feel weird. Right side is hit and miss for me at the moment. Sometimes it's fine and others not. DH was laughing at me the other day as I said my left ear really hurt in the morning where I'd been laying on it all night (apart from the toilet breaks!)
homeboddy I'd probably wait and see what the mattress was like before deciding.

nehagarg · 26/02/2016 07:57

Oh no! I really dont want to be stuck with puckering fish. 3 months to go. Who knows what it will look like in May!

emma85x · 26/02/2016 08:00

Really interesting hearing all about your holidays. How exciting! I'm sure you'll all have a great time.

Samba I keep waking up on my back too. I've tried pillows and everything but my unconscious self just wants to lie on her back! Hopefully that will change soon.

Do you also find that your bump is much 'flatter' in the morning?! It's nice and big and rock hard during the day and evening but first thing in the morning I have to remind myself I'm pregnant!
