What are others with breech babies thinking of doing if they don't turn? The midwife mentioned they might offer a c-section, but I have no idea what I'll decide!

ParsnipSoup · 08/04/2016 20:12

I would 100% definitely not have an ECV and would go for an elective section. Obviously I'm biased working in NICU but not prepared to take the risk of harm to baby from an ECV. Vaginal breech deliveries can also be very tricky so I wouldn't be up for that either.

Am trying the exercises on the spinning babies website in the meanwhile and am trying to be relaxed and just accept that baby may or may not turn and that I just need to go with the flow.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 08/04/2016 20:20

was just telling DP that I read in my birth book today that one idea for getting breech babies to turn is to shine a light up your bits and get your DP to talk to it to try and lure the baby down....
I mean, I guess there is no harm in trying Hmm

ParsnipSoup · 08/04/2016 20:41

Ha ha cant! That has given me the funniest mental image... I think you should try it and report back!

Everythinggettingbigger · 08/04/2016 21:46

Yes cant report back on thar one Grin

Breech baby club! I wouldn't attempt a normal delivery with a breech baby after my first bring a forceps delivery so I would definitely go for section! Midwife Monday I can't wait for some answers and to knew where I'm up to and if he's turned!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 08/04/2016 21:52

Well, my baby is apparently head down - though not yet engaged, so maybe we can help lure it into engagement with a bit of light-shining and daddy's voice??!! Might wait until I'm at least 37 weeks though just in case it is too effective Wink

GunShotResidue · 08/04/2016 23:32

I'm glad I have the excuse that DD has broken all our torches!

Everything DD was a forceps delivery, I was thinking that might counteract the idea that a breech delivery is safer with a second.

Parsnip I've read a lot of bad things about EVCs, I'm leaning towards elective section. I'm trying to do as much research as I can before the scan as I have a consultant and midwife appointment within 24 hours of it and I'm worried I'll have to make a decision then!

ParsnipSoup · 09/04/2016 10:31

Gun it's so difficult to decide what the right descision is. My friend who's an obstetrician thinks I'm mad for not considering an ECV because the risks are quite low, but when things go wrong from it they can have awful consequences which makes me not want to have one. I guess no birth is without risk so a lot of it is luck anyway. I think your plan of researching beforehand is a good idea, but I'm sure that even if they want a decision quickly you could change your mind if you wanted to.

Sephipops · 09/04/2016 10:39

I'm in two minds about the ECV. I probably wouldn't and just have the elective section. I'm not sure though. Just gonna hope she turns by herself. I am getting thoroughly peed off by her tap dancing on my cervix though!

ParsnipSoup · 09/04/2016 16:30

I agree Sephi, there is something very unpleasant about having your cervix stamped on!!

GunShotResidue · 10/04/2016 18:22

Lots of big movements and wriggles today, so maybe he's turning around :)

The weather's miserable here, I hope everyone else has a brighter Sunday!

Sephipops · 10/04/2016 20:01

I think shes gone halfway. I'm not getting kicked in the cervix, or punched in the ribs. I am however getting kicks coming right out my sides.

Apparently I did this to my mum all the way up to about 39 weeks, just kept turning and turning and turning. I came out elbow first in the end, caused my mum to tear before they could give her the episiotomy. She had 24 stitches in the end, I was only 6lb3!

ODog · 10/04/2016 20:48

I get kicks coming out of my sides sephi and midwife and a scan have both confirmed that baby is in the perfect position. I think they are curled right round by this stage so their feet end up at the side iyswim.

Been a lovely sunny day here so we took DS for a bike ride along the seafront with some nct pals. It was lovely at the time but 8+miles on a bike with a massive hill to climb at the end has left me with very achy hips, groin and back. It might be my last ride for a while until my vag can deal with a bike seat post birth oh and until I don't have a newborn hanging off my boob 24/7

Will be 37weeks this week. Crazy to think ill be classed as full term.

Sephipops · 10/04/2016 22:10

That's interesting to know ODog! She keeps pressing her back out against my belly button - she seems determined to give me an outie...

I can't believe you're still on a bike at 37 weeks! I don't think I could have coped with 8 miles before I was pregnant, let along now - That is what is classed as staying active. Getting from the sofa to the fridge and back is my version of exercise!

Notrobusta · 11/04/2016 11:22

Hi all. Anyone else starting to feel a bit overwhelmed . 6 weeks to go and only two more weeks at work but starting to feel like I'm running out of time. I am being hard on myself I know but have lots of things I want to get sorted in the house before baby arrives but just don't have the energy. My Dh is great but not the tidiest and my two other children seem to be getting messier. Perhaps it's early nesting bit can't stand the mess and untidiness. Is it just me?

Everythinggettingbigger · 11/04/2016 11:28

wow ODog 8 miles on a bike!! that is very impressive! I'm planning on Chester Zoo next weekend with DS and DP and already dreading all that walking!!

Had 34 week app with the midwife this morning, Midwife has changed which is really annoying, I would rather just have the same one all the way through not change on me week by week I don't know where I stand!! Baby is no longer breech Grin thank god! I was seriously considering asking for a section if he stayed breech! Sephi I've had lots of movement around the middle and she said he is head down (not engaged though) with his back on one side and legs sticking out to the other side. Belly button is half in half out at the min, I'm devastated! I hope it doesn't come all the way out!

Had my DP's sisters 21st party at the weekend, to say I felt like a Buddha would be an understatement, lots of unwanted bump rubbing Blush

Missed the lovely sun yesterday, chest infection and cold left me bed ridden! forced myself to work today with it being my last week! anyone else finishing this week??

Anyone feeling like it could happen soon? didn't realise there could be some 37 weekers due in May!

Sephipops · 11/04/2016 14:58

I went up to see the birth centre that I've changed to today. I love it, absolutely love it. I can only go there is she's head down though. There's double beds for you and your partner to stay in after the birth, and they give loads of support with breastfeeding. They have an average of one lady a day giving birth there as well, so it's really quiet!

This little madam had better turn herself! I will not be impressed if she doesn't.

Pikz · 11/04/2016 15:45

37+1 here... Suddenly it could be any time.

I had a breech baby and a ECV with ds1 that ended in emcs.

This baby was transverse til about a week ago and has flipped! Been confirmed by a scan so what I thought would be a week 37 delivery by csection is now just waiting for things to happen!! Eek

ParsnipSoup · 11/04/2016 16:50

I'm impressed that so many babies have turned. I think my little chap is still breech, feels distinctly like a head up near my ribs still (although I guess a bum is pretty round too). Less than 2 weeks to go at work... Everything's starting to feel pretty real!

GunShotResidue · 11/04/2016 18:37

I go from completely overwhelmed to very impatient Notrobusta, I blame hormones!

I'm struggling to walk any distance, most due to tiredness and feeling faint rather than pain (although my hips are pretty sore). It occurred to me over the weekend I might be anemic, I was with DD. To tired to walk to the doctors though, hoping to get an evening appointment soon so I can have the car.

I still have no idea what way he is. 10 days until the scan!

ODog · 11/04/2016 20:26

Your birth centre sounds wonderful sephi. Our MLU is within the hospital which obviously has some advantages but isn't quite the home from home some are.

I have been feeling a bit faint and sick too gunshot. I was on the borderline of needing iron tablets so I guess it could be that but I also think it might be a blood pressure thing as my is naturally on the low side anyway. It has been 90/45 at points during this pregnancy. Or a blood sugar thing as it tends to be better once I've eaten and drunk something.

I'm wishing the weeks away a bit now. Trying to cherish the time I have with DS in my own and sleep but I'm pretty uncomfortable now so I'm ready for her to be born now. Especially as I just sneezed and peed! DH is disgusted!

Sephipops · 11/04/2016 21:05

Yeah, if things go wrong I have a 14 mile transfer to the hospital I hate (they didn't believe my OH was as ill as he was, got turned away from an emergency scan and told he would get an appointment in the post in the next week or so. Then we got referred to a different hospital and he got admitted that day on IV antibiotics. Turned out he had a bowel rupture that had sealed itself! Strangely enough, that hospital gives me the heebies!)
But if I do get transferred then a midwife from the centre go with me and I can transfer back for aftercare. They're so quiet there that they asked me to start calling them with any changes once I get to term, so they can arrange staffing! They said they've never had to turn a lady away, and they only have two birthing rooms!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 12/04/2016 07:19

Wow sephi sounds a bit different from ours - 7 beds in the MLU and 20-something in the consultant led unit, and still they have to close about once a year because they are full! They are opposite each other in the hospital though, I hadn't really appreciated up to this stage that this means I don't really need to make any hard and fast decisions about where and how I want to try and have my baby until it's happening (thank goodness!).
So with our minds hurtling towards the end of all this, I've just got 2 days left at work, can hardly believe it! But also DP has 2 days left on the bigger work project of his professional life, and I sort of wish I could be somewhere else until it's all over! He needs me here to look after him as he is working CRAZY hours, but I sort of need to be looked after myself, so it's tough! Last night he came to bed after 2am and that woke me up, then I'm tossing and turning and worried about waking him...am dreading this evening tbh as he is so stressed out at the moment and I can't blame him, but also could do with him appreciating that I'm stressed out/emotional about finishing work too. At least his deadline isn't closer to my due date, that's what I keep thinking!!

Sephipops · 12/04/2016 09:39

There's something like 8 rooms in total in my local hospital that I hate, and it's closed 5 times in the past year. It does have the NICU etc etc on site and the transfer is just along the corridor, but blergh!

Good luck to your OH, is there a spare bed one of you could stay in for a few nights so you both get some sleep? My OH slept in the spare room for a couple of nights last week as I just couldn't sleep with him in the bed and we were both waking each other up!

ODog · 12/04/2016 12:13

That sounds tough cant. I would agree with one of you sleeping in a spare bed if you have one. I nearly chucked DH out last night into the spare bed as DS wanted in and there just wasn't enough room for me to get comfy with all my cushions and DH and DS. I can normally sleep in the thinnest space since we started co-sleeping with DS almost 2yrs ago but the last couple of weeks have been bad. I managed to convince DS that is make him a special bed on the floor (just dragged his mattress and bedding into our room) and he was pretty happy with that. Think it was a novelty for him.

Started washing baby clothes today since it's lovely and sunny. Love seeing tiny white baby clothes on the line.

Just watched the wet-nursing story on this morning. So lovely that so many women offered to wet nurse a strangers baby when she was too sick to feed herself. It really does take a village to raise a baby and I will make more effort to remember that this time around.
