thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

Runner05 · 27/01/2016 15:07

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Jesus Nev I'd be putting a complaint in. How f£&!ing rude?!! Of course not everyone will be thinking that. Hell just 40/50 years ago 25 was old for first time mums. Also how dare he ask if you're not drinking alcohol, imagine you were suffering from alcoholism. He needs to Stick to topics like the weather or "what a good bargain you have there!

Also why on earth would he be IDing for alcohol free drink?! I once got id'd for vanilla extract Hmm it does have 0.5% alcohol but still....

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 13:17

You never know bunch you could go crazy for the vanilla?! Haha!

Mileymoocow · 17/02/2016 13:38

He sounds like a complete knob. I'd be really offended! I had a comment that 26 was too young and my friend had one that 30 is too old. You never win either way.

Danni89 · 17/02/2016 13:47

How bloody rude!! I think we just need to ignore people's comments, someone's always gonna throw their 2pence in.

I'm still worried about what work will think, but then I just need to remember it's our choice etc

Runner05 · 17/02/2016 13:58

Shelb I'm thirsty all the time but drinking isn't very appealing. Except coke which makes me even more bloated.

Nev I assume the guy on the toll was very young? Some people will always judge you by their view of the world. My OHs dad told me (after we'd told him about the baby) that he'd assumed I didn't want kids because I'd left it so late and a nurse told me when I refused to switch from the pill to a more long term contraception because I wanted to ttc that she'd assumed I'd already had children and that if I was going to I better do it now or forget about it Shock

I've now come to the conclusion that people can take their opinions and stick them up their ass!
Just because the chap behind the till thinks being 25 is about getting pissed and going on holiday doesn't mean everyone else does and please bare in mind that you're talking about the opinion of someone who works on a till in ASDA, it's not like he's done much with his life so far Hmm

(No offence to shop assistants, I was one for many years when I was younger)

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 14:10

Thanks so much girls I am glad its not just my hormones over reacting!

Out of interest are any of you monitoring your coke intake? Its been one of the only drinks I fancy and helps with feeling sick but I am worried about caffeine.

Runner05 · 17/02/2016 14:19

I drink diet caffeine free coke. It doesn't taste quite the same but it means I don't need to worry. Apart from that I might have one or two real cokes a week.

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 14:21

I have switched to the gold coke too but am struggling to take to it!

Yvonne1986 · 17/02/2016 14:46

Hey everyone please can I join in?

After what seemed like an eternity TTC since Sept yesterday I got my BFP Grin

I'm so overwhelmed it's been so hard not talking to anyone apart from DP about our news today so it's so nice to have this thread. I also don't know how I would have survived TTC without the TTC thread!

I'm totally all new to this so not sure what happens next I've called my medical centre and have an appointment in three weeks with the midwife please could anyone shed some light on what to expect at this first appointment?

It's been great reading all of your comments although a little scary reading so much about morning sickness at what stage do most people begin to get it?

Thanks for any advice xxxxx

BunchOfBobs · 17/02/2016 15:11

Congrats Yvonne and welcome to the thread. I think morning sickness is meant to kick in from 6 weeks but some people have it earlier and some like myself and Nev have none. Be prepared for bloating to kick in relatively quickly- I don't think any of us escaped that one.

If it's your booking in appointment it's just going through your medical history and asking questions about your lifestyle, weight and height are taken and wee is dipped. It's a good chance to ask questions, I went with a list for mine.

How far along do you think you are?

Runner05 · 17/02/2016 15:16

Welcome Yvonne Grin

Your first midwife appointment is usually spent with her asking you lots and lots of questions. Mostly about you, your health, you family and your partner but also some that will feel a bit rude such as, is your partner violent towards you etc. you'll also be booked in for your first blood and urine tests and she will usually put in a request for your 12 week scan. It's all very routine. If you get a good midwife if will be informative, if not it will be a box ticking exercise Hmm they will also make the initial decision regarding whether you're looked after by a midwife or a consultant (depending on your answers) and probably suggest where would be best for you to give birth.

As far as morning sickness is concerned. If you're going to get it you will probably start to see signs around 6 weeks and it will usually last until around 12 weeks. There's no magic cure but we all have our little coping strategies try not to punch everyone who tells you to try ginger biscuits morning sickness usually runs in families so if you ask your mum if she had it you'll have an idea whether you'll get it. It also tends to hit people who get motion sickness.

Nev I'm 25 too, married and financially stable. We are young but not TOO young, if anything I'm glad that we will hopefully have a healthy pregnancy and have more energy when baby arrives might be a bit of wishful thinking there. I wouldn't worry about arse holes like that, I had the odd comment from a neighbour when I mentioned we were going to try. I didn't want the negativity and decided her opinion meant bugger all to me anyway so didn't tell her anything after that.

Congrats Yvonne! Wishing you lots of luck for a healthy, happy pregnancy xx

Mileymoocow · 17/02/2016 15:29

Nice to see you here Yvonne. My morning sickness started at 5+4 and has been getting progressively worse. I think I'm one of the unlucky ones, though. Don't worry about it just yet and enjoy the first few weeks!

Yvonne1986 · 17/02/2016 15:30

Thanks that's really helpful I've already thought of things I want to ask Blush I will definitely make a list as I'm sure I have baby brain already I've been all over the place today but it's probably just the shock and excitement!

I'm only 3+6 based on when I OV as my cycles are still a mess from the pill! My DP isn't even convinced you can tell so soon but I couldn't wait to test any longer I can't believe how dark my line was too! I feel so bloated already had to open my work trousers! I think it's more to do with me eating three proper meals a day not to stay healthy as I was awful for skipping lunch in work.

Runner your ginger biscuit comment made me laugh!!

How far along is everyone? Is this everyone's 1st? Xx

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 15:40

Thanks Indi. Its funny how other people's comments can get to you even know you dont actually care what they think!

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 15:44

Welcome yvonne! I dont think we can predict the sickness I thought I would be awful i get motion sickness, hangover sickness, headache sicknes you name it if it can make you feel sick it did... Nothing in pregnancy. Even all the other types of sickness have stopped.

Not trying to rub it in to the poor girls who have suffered terribly it sounds bloody awful but theres just no predicting till it happens to you.

Some of us have had other symptoms instead of sickness... Mine has been debilitating headaches/migraines.

Hopefully you will escape the worst Smile

Mileymoocow · 17/02/2016 15:46

yvonne can I also suggest you eat as many of the things you like, too. Just incase! My diet is currently rye crackers, dry weetabix, an occasional natural yogurt, ice pops and boiled sweets. I can't even face cooking poor OH'S tea! Or go in the fridge for some bizarre reason.

It's my first and grounded unit they're 18 already and I'm 6+2

BunchOfBobs · 17/02/2016 15:46

Yvonne you date form your LMP (last monthly period) not when you ovulated, but if your cycles were a mess it's pretty hard and you won't get a definite date until your 12 weeks scan. If your positive on round abouts when you ovulated add roughly 2 weeks onto that. So you'll be 5+6.

It's most of our first but we have some experience on here too. I'm 14+4 and I think our furthest along is at 16/17 weeks but don't trust my memory.

I'm feeling huge today. I bought a maternity dress off eBay for a christening next month. I thought it would swamp me. Instead I look very very pregnant in it. I want people to start showing bump photos so I don't feel alone in this weird "what is this lump attached to my tummy" Smile

Nevlet · 17/02/2016 15:52

Bunch i have a definite belly at 11+4 i like to think its all bloat but last few days i can feel something different right at the bottom of my stomach thats almost an alien feeling like theres something in there i can feel when i bend right over or lay on my front. Very strange feeling.

Laurenrl · 17/02/2016 15:54

Hi Yvonne, welcome!

I am 7+4 :) and it's my first

I'm also 25 and quite offended by the shop assistant too! Haha we own a house in London both earn great salaries and have known each other 10 years I think we are secure!

I get a dead leg all the time recently, is this a pregnancy thing?! If not I'm on just sitting awkwardly at work

Runner05 · 17/02/2016 16:10

I'm 12+4 with my first and 34. I wonder if there's a perfect age at which nobody comments as to whether you're too old or too young to have a baby? Do you think it's like waiting for a banana to ripen? You know, you bring it home put it in a fruit bowl and check every day to see if it's soft enough to not taste crunchy, then one day you go to check it and the bloody thing had turned brown and soggy and you find yourself wondering how it could have gone from under ripe to over ripe without ever being ripe Hmm

Oh and I just remembered that my sister called yesterday after I sent her the scan photo and proceeded to question me as to why I wasn't going to get married before the babies born Hmm I had to go through the details of how we can't get married until we buy the new house and by that time I will be ready to pop, not the best time to be hosting a party. Quite annoying, especially as she's not exactly snow bloody white!

(I appear to be feeling ranty)

OP posts:
Nevlet · 17/02/2016 16:15

Haha love the banana analogy runner!

Sympathies on the when are you getting married front that is all we have got too!

Danni89 · 17/02/2016 16:18

Welcome Yvonne... I'm 10+3

Congrats and Wishing you a smooth 1st trimester Smile

LisaTheGreek · 17/02/2016 16:34

Hi Yvonne! Great to see you on the grads thread!

I'm 7 weeks today and have pretty bad sickness. Had to come home from work today as I couldn't cope. Don't think it's as bad as Miley though, or as bad as Runner had it.

Have my booking in appt next Tuesday (23rd) and my scan in for 30th March (feels so far away).

For those who have had their scan (Runner? Mor?), how long does it take? I've got a specialist appt straight after (one hour later) about my blood and don't know if I'll be able to get from one to the other in time.

BunchOfBobs · 17/02/2016 16:41

Lisa is it in the same building? Most of us had a our bloods taken straight after the scan anyway I think. It's about half an hour I think. I didn't really time it but I was having my bloods taken about 45mins after my scan appointment.
