I'd say if you're breastfeeding then it won't be possible neh, they still feed all the time at that age. If not, you might not feel up to it but no reason why not really, as long as you have someone willing to have the baby alone for the duration. What kind of hen do is it, could you just go to part of it?

maybebabybee · 29/01/2016 22:17

I'm a ftm too neh but judging by watching others i'd have to agree with suz and say not possible if bfeeding. Plus they're still so teeny at that age, you may not want to leave them!

neh205 · 29/01/2016 23:06

Yes I'm already feeling like I wouldn't want to have the time apart! Amazing how much difference a few months and a ton of hormones can make to your motherly instincts! It's a full on hen weekend in Brighton too. I'm sure I could dip in and out of things but i will probably be knackered by that point!

magpiedreams · 30/01/2016 06:55

neh I managed a hen do when DD was 6 weeks old and breast fed. But only for the day and DH had to come to the town and amuse himself with the baby for the day...! I met up with them, did lunch, then there was a spa thing which I did NOT fancy 6 weeks post-parting with a load of childless friends with perfect bodies and non leaking boobs so I met up with DH and DD in a cafe, fed her, then went back to the hotel and met the girls for the rest of the evening and dinner. DH gave DD a bottle of expressed milk in a pub (actually, another lady fed her he told me as she started screaming just as his food arrived and a grandmotherly figure felt sorry for him and took her chance to cuddle a baby...!). He picked me up, I fed DD again and we drove home.

It was fine but all my friends were Hmm 'woah, that's a big effort to make' but the bride was thrilled I'd made he effort. I'm not sure I'd have been so relaxed about it all with DC1 though to be honest, and definitely personally wouldn't be ready to leave a baby overnight at 8 weeks. You need to weigh up whether there's the possibility of doing a day trip and partially joining in I think rather than shell out for a weekend then end up losing money and feeling you're letting people down.

DH away here and DCs both ended up in bed with me which was sweet but not when they woke at 6. Sent them off to play Lego now and explained I'm not getting up until 7! Happy Saturday, and hope most of you are getting more of a lie in horn me...

IndomitabIe · 30/01/2016 08:15

Morning all. I went to bed at 8:30 last night! It was lush apart from the backache from 5:45! Grin

I knew it would happen, but I now have a bedside cat! She's shredded my arms wafting her out at least 4 times this morning. I'll put some foil in there later, that'll teach her!

MrsElls · 30/01/2016 08:33

I did a hen do when ds was 6 weeks old but did the same as magpie, dh came with me and I just did the afternoon bit then dashed across London to feed ds before we all went home. Ds would have been fine with expressed milk but my boobs wouldn't! I was considering meeting the girls again in the evening but was too tired in the end. The bride isn't one of my closest friends so she was still thrilled that I had made that much of an effort. The wedding was when ds was 3 months old, we left him with my mum all day but I did have to sneak off twice into one of the bridesmaids rooms to express as my boobs were very uncomfortable after not feeding for so long. I vividly remember pouring bottles of milk down the sink and thinking what a waste but without a fridge there was no point keeping it.

Mainly popping in so I know where to find you lot on the new thread.

Quick update from me. Had growth scan at 32+5 and baby had dropped from 50th centile at 28 weeks to the 10th centileSadso I now have to go back this coming Friday (34+6 first time they could fit me back in with minimum 2 week gap) for another. All will depend on his growth at that scan wether we stick to the original plan of inducing me at 39 weeks or if the whole plan changes. Currently we have growth scans at approx 34, 36 and 38 weeks with intention to induce at 39. My own midwife reckons though that if he hasn't gone back up the centiles then they'll take me in, give steroids and induce me early SadI really really want to avoid having him before 37 weeks st least. Plus I'm not organised enough for him to come just yet!

On the work front, I've changed my finish date from 19th to the 12th yippee! Still feeling well enough to work on but figured I may as well take some time off to spend with my dd's before incase I do end up going early.

Another one here that vomited in labour but it was at the pushing stage and I reckon it was shock as it was all happening so fast. Dd2 was born literally about 15 mins after I arrived in the delivery room Grin hoping for much of the same again lol

Missdee2014 · 30/01/2016 10:09

On another note, has anyone any sign of milk/colostrum yet? I was just saying last night to my mum that with dd2 I had some by this stage but nothing yet. Lo and behold I have this morning Shock lol

sherazade · 30/01/2016 10:44

Missdee was wondering about u !
Hopefully growth scan goes ok and u get to term at least
Yup started leaking here too, crusty nipples are now another hot look I'm sporting ;)

docmcstuffins1 · 30/01/2016 10:55

missdee hope everything goes ok with your scan on Friday. There's quite a lot of us now who have got to go for growth scans, it must be quite a common occurrence, it's difficult not to worry though isn't it.

I've had a few spots of colostrum on my PJ top on and of since before Christmas, but nothing else. Something else to look forward too! I also didn't think I was having any braxton hicks, but my MW said I was having one when she measured me at my last appointment - she had to wait for it to go. I couldn't feel a thing - I'm hoping that bodes well for labour!

magpiedreams · 30/01/2016 11:21

Leaky books muchos here. I spend time with small babies in my job some days and that doesn't help! I have some washable breast pads which I pop in and they contain it, and also save the crusty nipple-stuck-to-bra situation at the end of the day (sorry TMI, but you know what I mean!)

Crispylicious · 30/01/2016 12:23

Crusty boobs here too, but DD still has the odd feed, so to be expected I guess!

Urgh I've been sleeping SO badly thanks to a hideous cough. It's totally doing my head in and quite scary as I have severe coughing fits and can't get my breath! Ah well, guess it'll pass soon...

I wish I had a growth scan! At my 32 week appointment yesterday, the bump was measuring smaller than at my 29 week appt! The MW wasn't worried as the bump was within the 3cm too small guidelines and thinks the student MW last time miscalculated (she certainly did it over my clothes...) I'm worried though, particularly in light of the potential issue picked up by the dopplers. Will have to see how the measurements are at the 34 week appt.

there's always something to worry about!

miss sorry to hear they may induce you early. Do they know what's causing the growth issues? Hope you're ok.

I managed to go for an afternoon tea when DD was about 8 weeks old but had v sore boobs and felt too sleep deprived to really enjoy it. I think doing part of the day and DH bringing along baby sounds like a good plan for a close friend's hen do.

Hope you're all having nice weekends.

neh205 · 30/01/2016 12:28

Thanks for all the advice on the hen do. Going to talk it through with my friend.

miss hope all goes ok with scan.

Having a really frustrating morning as the bola necklace I ordered for my friends baby shower tomorrow hasnt arrived. I ordered first class royal mail at start of the week so should def have been here now. So frustrating, must be hormonal as want to cry about it! Looks like such a pretty necklace and was excited to give to my friend. Company is Blooming Lovely so be warned if you order anything from there !

Missdee2014 · 30/01/2016 12:48

Crispy I'm sure all will be fine, if the mw was concerned at all she would have referred you for a scan. It seems they don't take any chances these days.
They reckon it's the labetalol that I'm on for blood pressure. That's why I was even booked in for growth scans in the first place because the labetalol can cause the baby to be small. Initially was only supposed to get 28, 32 and 36 week ones. Upped to fortnightly now though from 32 weeks. Will see how it goes on Friday. I'm not worried about him being small if I'm honest, he weighed almost 3.5lb at my last scan so if he gains 1/2 a week then I'm looking at a healthy 7lb at birth which is great considering I'm 5'1" and my previous babies were only 6lb and 7lb 4oz. Though my eldest did only gain just under 1lb in the last 4 weeks so he could be a bit smaller. Just need to wait n see I guess, as long as he's healthy I'm not caring if he's small.

Me624 · 30/01/2016 16:02

I had leaky boobs every night for about 2 weeks but then it stopped! Haven't had it for another fortnight or so now. Strange but I'm sure all will be fine!

I have just got home to a letter from the hospital saying that my most recent blood results show that my iron count hasn't risen at all despite being on tablets for the last 4 weeks Sad and that I need to see my doctor or midwife. Not sure what the next step is if the tablets aren't working! Not sure who I should contact first either, I am under a community midwifery team but if I ring them on Monday morning and they say I need to see the GP, it will probably be too late by then to get a GP appointment - my surgery operate one of those annoying systems where you can only get an appointment the same day by ringing at 8am, they don't do advanced bookings at all which is so irritating!

neh205 · 30/01/2016 16:17

me I'd ring doctors first, you can always cancel if you don't need it.

Hope it gets sorted asap. My iron was low on my last bloods but just over the threshold where they give you tablets. I asked at last appointment of they'd recheck but they said no. Might ask again at next appointment as not sure what impact low iron could have on birth other than causing you to be anaemic?

IndomitabIe · 30/01/2016 16:21

Oh no me. If I were you I'd be on the phone Monday morning booking appointments with both - easier to cancel one than book later. It's likely the midwife will recommend seeing the doc, isn't it?

I was just doing my online shop and saw this. Made me think of you! Who comes up with these suggestions?! I just don't think that replacement is going to cut it!

neh205 · 30/01/2016 16:24

Just had a Google re low iron in pregnancy and one of the things it can cause is restless legs. So immediately thought of you scared , what are your iron levels like?

Rosieblossom123 · 30/01/2016 16:40

My buggy and car seat just arrived I'm so happy wasn't meant to arrive until Monday Grin I want her here now!! Been practicing on the cats and her teddies Blush

indom I'm planning to go for Tena lady maxi night, cus I use them for heavy periods during the night and they're awesome !! Never ever leak as they're designed to contain a full wee
Congrats on the pram Rosie

IndomitabIe · 30/01/2016 17:06

Wow, that is a pram you won't misplace!

I was looking at the Always incontinence pants in Waitrose earlier. Do you reckon they'd be better than pads in disposable briefs (which are crinkly and uncomfortable too)?

IndomitabIe · 30/01/2016 17:07

That bow is a real statement! I keep looking at it! Glad you love it, Rosie!

Rosieblossom123 · 30/01/2016 17:32

I love it just worried everyone Will be staring at me thinking who's this crazy lady Blush

Me624 · 30/01/2016 17:37

Wow Rosie amazing pram! I love the bright pink wheels.

I think you're right Indom and neh, I'll just cancel the GP if I don't need it but I no doubt will as when my iron was first flagged as low, the midwife had to get a GP to come in to actually prescribe the tablets so they will probably just tell me to book an appointment. The thing is I don't even feel bad, I think my body is so used to being low on iron! I was massively anaemic pre-pregnancy and I'm nowhere near as low now as I was at my lowest point. But I suppose I should try and get it sorted in case I lose a lot of blood during the birth, I don't fancy a transfusion if I can help it!

nixxxy · 30/01/2016 17:38

Regarding leaky nipples, I've had nothing yet at 32 weeks tomorrow. I don't know whether to be concerned or relieved. This is my first pregnancy though; so I assume these things take longer - and from what I've read not everyone gets them.

Picked up some 'granny pants' aka full black briefs in Primark today as well as some little bits (scratch mits, teeny newborn socks etc) also got a good deal on two muslin swaddle blankets in TK Maxx for £7.99. They seem to have a lot of good stuff in at the moment, got a cute storage box with elephants on to keep change stuff in downstairs too. Treated myself to a massage bar (coughs at DH) and face mask form Lush, and some Vit E face mist from body shop for during labour. How glamorous.

Love the pram Rosie! The stripes and pink highlights look lovely. One of my clients at work has a Cosatto Pram/accessories - they're always so bright and colourful, gorgeous!
