Another member of the CSC last night - lying awake for ages dreading the thought of getting the completely useless cover midwife for my appointment today and the possibility of having to deal with her fucking me over appointment wise again. Already cranky enough that this appointment is at midday when all my others have been much earlier...

TheMshipIsBack · 18/02/2016 08:55

maybe Keep trying! UTIs can induce labour if left untreated (you should be fine if you can get the antibiotics relatively quickly) and it's seriously shoddy of your GP and midwife to be leaving you in the lurch like this.

me We don't get a sweep till 40 week appointment for anyone here (Lothians). There are mixed messages about how effective it is before 40 weeks but it's considered pretty good for 40+. I had one done at 40+1 with DS and went into labour the next day - however - I am convinced that the sweep contributed to him being in distress. I had a major reduction in fetal movement in the 24 hours following the sweep and went in for monitoring at 40+2. Labour started later that day with my waters breaking and they were almost black with meconium. I had to be on continuous monitoring on the main labour ward as a result. DS was born early on 40+3, and although I felt it was an overall positive birth story, I will not be having a membrane sweep this time.

I can only see my named midwife on Tuesdays, so my next midwife appointment is 40+3. If labour doesn't start by that Friday, my midwife said we'll do a telephone consult and she'll book me for induction on the following Monday, which would be 40+9. Baby's movement patterns are still changing, even now: both the resting and active periods are longer and the first active period of the day is later in the morning than it was a few weeks ago.

TheMshipIsBack · 18/02/2016 09:05

xpost!

beautiful that's really crap that they won't arrange a planned homebirth, but I can see her logic with your history of fast labours. A midwife could take a long time to get to your house - IIRC, you're fairly rural and that could mean a big district to cover? I was told even where I live, which is a relatively big city, that for a homebirth it could be up to 2 hours for a midwife to arrive! Paramedics would be a lot faster.

trijo sorry you were in the CSC again last night! Good luck with your appointment today, hope you get a good midwife.

BeautifulLiar · 18/02/2016 09:43

Thanks Mship. Bloody hell 2 hours?! And yes you remembered rightly and I'm as rural as being in a village in Lincolnshire :) hmm, didn't think about that really. Ironic as one of the midwives lives in the same village and I see her every day on the school run!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 18/02/2016 09:53

No sweep here till 41 weeks as second time mum. They then book you in for an induction which I will point blank refuse as no way am I being induced before 42 weeks, particularly as I know my due date is a few days out (they go by LMP here, not scan). I've heard they can be pushy but my yoga teacher has given me lots of advice on how to manage their pressure by asking them to assess me personally and give me an idea of risks rather than trot out statistics that might not be relevant to me. Apparently statistics on going overdue and outcomes was based on one study of women aged 40+ and for many women, the increased risk of poor outcomes (which is small) would be smaller. She also said she thinks that having an induction date in your mind cam stress you out a bit, even if subconsciously, and that this will actually delay labour onset, so to try to just nod amd smile when induction is booked but try not to think of it.

Think I'm going to stop taking my iron tablets as I felt really nauseous and crampy yesterday afternoon and I can't be dealing with how it's screwing with my digestive system. Will get some floradix as heard that can be good And doesn't mess with your system as much and my midwife did say at my 34 week appt that if I wanted I could try hebal remedies rather than the iron tablets. I tell the GP at my 38 week appointment next week and see if shell

marmiteandcheeseplease · 18/02/2016 09:54

Dammit pressed send too soon again; I'll see what the GP says.

Hope pug and scared are getting on OK!

TheMshipIsBack · 18/02/2016 10:02

beautiful Yup, 2 hours. NHS Lothian midwife services are short staffed at the moment, which means resources are focused on the MLU and main labour ward. Even the lowest risk women are being told they may have to go to MLU as there may not be anyone available on the day. Don't worry about calling an ambulance if you need to - your pregnancy hasn't been entirely straightforward, and it's been advised by a medical professional that an ambulance is ok. If push comes to shove, your DH can wait with the kids while someone comes to take over at home, then he can drive in after the ambulance. It would suck to not have him there, I know, but your and baby's safety would have to be the first priority.

Rosieblossom123 · 18/02/2016 10:05

Hello girls, sorry haven't been on here for ages!! I've missed so much I can't believe Scared you had your baby Grin so happy for you she's beautiful Flowers

I've been on maternity for a week and feeling so crap and just wishing my baby would come already. 38 weeks on Sunday so please hurry up squishy!! Have a nasty cold too which doesn't help, can't even leave the house arghhh this is killing me! Is anyone trying anything to induce labour naturally? I'm debating wether to start clary sage over the weekend. Fx she's here before the 25th as its my stepson's bday Shock

JoannaZZ · 18/02/2016 10:42

Hi everyone, I'm a bit of a rare visitor here these days but have been checking in occasionally to catch up without posting. Congratulations Scared! Flowers

37+5 today, really hoping the little one stays in there for at least another 8 days as my fiance is abroad and it would take him at least 10 hours to fly back (including airport time and trains etc) if it starts. I want him to be there for the birth.

I often have what feels like period pain at night, don't know if it's contractions but it keeps me awake for a while, esp with worrying about whether it's the start of labour!

BeautifulLiar · 18/02/2016 10:59

Yay Rosie glad you're back! Especially as I had a dream about you last night Shock haha

vroc81 · 18/02/2016 11:02

Rosie not exactly naturally trying to induce labour but i'm booking work things up to a few days before my due date in the thinking she'll then clearly appear when I am least expecting it? Possibly in a clients meeting room? Blush

Have my 38 week appointment this afternoon, I have fallen out of sync going weekly for a while for BP so only 37+4 but hoping that means that come the later appointments (if needed) they will be sneaked in earlier..

Got bored of my evening on the sofa last night and went off to paint animals on the nursery wall instead.. I'm sure after another evening out tonight (learning about water births) I'll be dreaming of the sofa again!

Rosieblossom123 · 18/02/2016 11:14

Haha Beautiful that's super weird because last night I had a dream that you all had your babies apart from me haha and it made me think gosh I haven't been on here for a while Grin

Vroc I'm constantly worried about giving birth in awkward places, why can't she just come now while I'm in bes relaxing. I'm bored of being a bum all day and have no energy to go out this is really getting too much now Sad

TriJo · 18/02/2016 13:07

Ended up being dopeyhole again - she tried to outright lie to me about what happened with scheduling this one but became very apologetic after I caught her out on her bullshit... Also got stuck holding in a piss for 25 minutes more than I should have because the appointment before me seemed to be a 16 weeker with a million questions and there weren't any sample bottles around to go do my business. Everything looks fine baby-wise thankfully but I'm just seriously pissed off with this crap. Back in Tuesday afternoon to try and get me back to the schedule because today was a horrendously late 34 week appointment (35+4).

Paperblank · 18/02/2016 14:38

Ladies...the time has come to admit defeat. I cannot fully access my nether regions and so I am off for a bikini wax. I can't face a full on brazilian so am just going for a tidy up. I'm buggered if I'm giving birth with an out of control lady garden.

I know the midwife will not care. DH will not care, my mother will not care but I am looking at it as good practice for the pain to come next week Grin

Me624 · 18/02/2016 14:42

Paper I'm planning the same next week when my mat leave starts! I will be doing it for me not for anyone else. Like you though not planning to get rid of it all - just so it's neat and tidy!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 18/02/2016 14:55

I trimmed my bits recently, was bloody difficult! Would not even remotely entertain a wax - but I don't wax anyway, screw that. I keep things short and trim but that's about it. Will probably try to trim once more before baby comes as want things short down there to avoid mess post birth with all the bleeding. Have to say I'm really not looking forward to five ish weeks of bleeding again, it did my head in after DD Confused

TriJo · 18/02/2016 14:56

Am also planning the same thing for when maternity leave starts. Haven't been able to see a thing down there for ages, did a blind trim at 32 ish weeks but it needs a proper job done on it.

Little guy is in Octobaby mode right now, feels like hands and feet everywhere, prodding out in every direction...

docmcstuffins1 · 18/02/2016 15:06

I've just got back from hairdressers so have lovely shiny bouncy locks to celebrate the first day of maternity leave. Felt really wierd yesterday leaving work knowing I won't be going back until September. The girls in the office came in with a massive 2 tierd 'nappy cake' that one of them put together - it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen - has nappies, vests, muslins, bath stuff, hats, blankets etc. etc. I was so touched that they'd made such a huge effort (I really didn't expect anything!)
I'm going to try and post a pic....

docmcstuffins1 · 18/02/2016 15:07

This is it...

March 2016 Babies #9 - we're on the final countdown!!
QforCucumber · 18/02/2016 15:22

doc that's gorgeous, what an effort that be put in!
paper I'm getting mine done tonight, went about 2 months ago and skin was rather sensitive so this time I've told my friend who does it (she is a self employed beautification) to just tidy up and make it look like I'd be happy with it if I could see it haha!
tri how awful for you, what is it with useless midwives?! I understand they're under strain etc but there's no need for just general crapNess.

Health visitor came and introduced herself today, seemed lovely ebough and sensible enough so quite happy with that.

QforCucumber · 18/02/2016 15:22

She's a beautician not a beautification Hmm

Rosieblossom123 · 18/02/2016 15:45

Paper I haven't trimmed my private bits since 27 weeks I feel so bad. As a ftm would you girls recommend waxing rather than shaving? I'm scared my water breaks while I'm in there haha but im also scared of shaving, in growing hair and stitches sounds very painful Sad

Doc that's a lovely present Smile I got really emotional last Friday on my last day and the got me £100 mothercare voucher which I thought was very generous, not missing work though haha

Q my health visitor came on Tuesday and she was lovely and she seems more excited than I am to see baby haha bless her

MyNameIsSuz · 18/02/2016 16:16

I'm with marmite, I'm just going to trim as short as I can. Like you say, the hair regrowth will be horrible with stitches and soreness! I bled for ten weeks last time, hopefully I'll be shorter this time!

Had a mixed penultimate day at work, got in late after my midwife appointment and there were no parking spaces - we have an overflow car park but it's quite a walk away and I've also never needed to use it and couldn't find it. Cried at the lovely receptionist for help, she let me park in the disabled space. My boss decided she couldn't come to my leaving lunch - which was so badly organised hardly anyone else could come either - and I was told I'd have to drive as there weren't enough cars. Spent most of the morning crying in the toilets, feeling overlooked and emotional. My lunch was quite nice though and I got some nice presents - a basket of chocolate and hot chocolate and stuff, and a packet of rainbow muslins, which I always really wanted but couldn't justify the cost of. Last day tomorrow!

magpiedreams · 18/02/2016 16:41

Ah suz that sounds like an emotional roller coaster of a day. Glad it's your last day tomorrow then you can switch off completely!

doc that's lovely!

My 'cold' has got a bit dramatic and I panicked as was feeling short of breath and we are in Leicester where there has been a spike of swine flu cases so I'm now on maternity assessment being monitored and tested for this Confused.

RhubarbAndMustard · 18/02/2016 16:44

Yep I'll just be trimming and tidying up too. Yelp at the thought of a wax.

Suz that's a bit crap about your leaving lunch. You'd think they could have made a bit more effort! But lovely that you got some nice gifts.

doc that's am amazing present and what I call 'effort'!

I received a really lovely basket containing a rabbit, towel and 2 vests from a supplier yesterday, which really made me want to cry. So thoughtful! Also had a lunch out with my 'London' boss and the local team, paid for by the company which was nice. My last day still isn't until this time next week though, so am hoping to do another lunch again then.

Sorry to everyone with crappy midwives. Last thing you need right now is incompetence. Must be very frustrating.

Its my birthday today and we were hoping to have a pub dinner tonight, but DS is feeling a bit under the weather. Had to pick him up from nursery after lunch and although he is desperate to go to the pub (for fish fingers!) he's just fallen asleep on the sofa!

I've been reading your posts about having DP / DH in with you for the labour. I had my DP and DSis last time, and they got - and ate - a McDonalds whilst I was about half way through. I remember them offering me a sip of milkshake and just giving them a withering look! Will def have DP with me this time again though. No way he is getting out of it and he would want to be there. He looks quite hot in scrubs too! Wink.
