Hello all I am thinking of a name change to Whingebag McGrumpy... I think it'll suit me.

Went to the Dr's this afternoon - am so tired of not sleeping I thought I'd see if there was some magic they could work.

No.

"Go and get a massage or that thing they do to your feet" was the sum total of her advice.

I DON'T WANT MY BLOODY FEET FIDDLED WITH I WANT TO SLEEP!!! Angry

Off I stomped to Tesco and bought an oil burner, lavender oil, sweet almond oil, rescue remedy sleep drops, some pukka sleep tea bags, a raisin and biscuit yorkie and a big bag of revels.

The house smells lovely, DH's hands hurt from massaging me (awww bless...), the tea was rank but the Yorkie and revels were fab.

Let's see if it works...

Hello again ladies, it's been a while! Glad to hear you are all still hanging in there, but sympathies for all the tough aspects of pg.

Suz sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish. Hope the cold is short-lived.

I'm really struggling at the moment tbh; I'm anaemic and get so ridiculously tired, but the iron tablets disagree with me (I get the runs, feel sick, am so wiped out I have to sleep, go dizzy and generally feel awful). I have stopped and restarted taking them 3 times now, so I know it's defo the tablets causing this. Have got a gp's appt tomorrow to sort this out. Told my consultant, but he really wasn't interested, just told me I had to try taking the tablets again. I did this and felt so dreadful dh had to come home early to look after dc while I went to bed. It doesn't help that I'm still walking at least 4 miles a day to and from ds1's school, and will have to continue to do so right up to the end or catch the horribly overpriced local bus (£2:40 for ds1 and I to travel 1 mile). Thankfully I'm due on the 2nd March so not much longer to go! Sorry for prolonged self-pity fest.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 03/02/2016 23:05

Oh dear, sorry to hear people are feeling rubbish 😞

I've got terrible back ache today- think size of bump is finally catching up with me. Plus my yoga ball at work got a puncture last week and only today did I remember to bring my replacement ball in, a little too late as was already feeling achey. Went to yoga this evening and back felt better on my way home but kitchen was a state and I was sweeping up the floor and realised too late it wasn't a great position for my back, now in pain again... Sigh

Only 7 working days left, am really counting down the days now. Just can't be arsed with dealing with it!

neh205 · 04/02/2016 08:48

ffaux thanks for the raspberry tea warning. Will have more of a look into this!

mrsben that sounds awful. Can you change midwife?

I've just started jotting down notes for birth plan so thanks for all of the tips.

Any other advice on how to speed up birth/makes things easier? All old midwives tales appreciated! I've been looking into reflexology as love a massage anyway!

I went to champneys yesterday and had a pregnancy massage - was a birthday present. Feeling very relaxed now!

maybebabybee · 04/02/2016 08:53

Also drinking raspberry leaf tea as was recommended at NCT class (our teacher was quite down to earth about things which did and did not have scientific evidence rather than being all 'woo', so I do trust her). I have the clipper one. It's ok, doesn't really taste of much to be honest but goes down easily enough.

Anyone else exhausted? I don't know how most of you ladies are still at work, I am so glad I started mat leave when I did otherwise I would not be functioning at all. I got up at 7 to make OH breakfast and am just collapsed on the sofa in my dressing gown now...can barely move.

marmite sorry to hear about your back, that's exactly what mine was doing yesterday when I attempted the hoovering! I also find I find it really uncomfortable to stand for long periods now too, like when I was peeling potatoes at the kitchen side yesterday my back and legs were killing me - had to sit down and do them on my birthing ball!

Crispylicious · 04/02/2016 08:56

Yeah I'm feeling a bit crap too! Huge, nauseous and knackered! And I had really bad cramp in the night. Have also been getting night sweats and braxton hicks, but sounds like it's normal for this stage, as so many of us are suffering. Thank god I have just 3 weeks left at work today and then can REST. Sorry to hear about colds and bad backs.

My nct class last night panicked me - one of the scenarios was if your waters break and there's meconium in them but DH is at work, WWYD. DH works about 2 hours away and then our hospital is a half hour drive from ours. My mum is over an hour away and everyone else I know lives or works a fair distance away, argh! Our CM has kindly offered to do emergency childcare so I don't need to worry about DD, but do need to think how I'd get to the bloody hospital. Apparently taxis won't take women in labour... Stressy stress.

shield wow that's a lotta walking at this stage. I'm being exceptionally lazy when I can, as find I end up with a v achey pelvis if I walk too much.

docmcstuffins1 · 04/02/2016 09:12

Sorry to hear people are feeling rubbish. I must admit this week everything has just felt 'harder' - back ache, swollen feet, feeling exhausted! oh the joys of pregnancy!

Mrsben I'd definitely complain about the MW, that's shocking care, especially for someone considered high risk. Sounds like she's been allowed to get away with it for too long!

On a more positive note, I had my growth scan yesterday and everything was fine. Baby measuring just over 50th centile on scan (compared to 95th on bump measurement) but already weighs 5lb 14oz (which is more than DH was when he was born!) and I've still got 4 weeks to go!

Also worked my last full day yesterday - now only have half day on Friday, then half days Monday-Wednesday for the next 2 weeks - yey! TBH I'm ready for it as my job is quite intense and a normal day is pretty much 12 hours non stop, I've been so shattered by the time I get home I literally just seem to work and sleep!

neh205 · 04/02/2016 09:22

sheildbug have you tried iron in liquid form? It plays less havoc with your system. Also spinach soup - may not sound nice but is actually really tasty, quick to make and gives you a real boost.

Sorry to hear people are feeling so rubbish. I'm just coming out of the tail end of two week cold so just starting to feel a bit better at the moment.

We had first nct class last night. A real mix of people but all living very nearby and they all seemed to have a decent sense of humour which definitely made the evening lighter.

Re perinal massage, I've heard witch hazel is good to use. Yet to try it though!

vroc81 · 04/02/2016 09:39

Sorry for all of you that are feeling rubbish - can I join the club? Woke up in the middle of Tuesday night with the start of a cold and now am running snot... and I had a terrible nights sleep but when I did briefly manage to sleep I woke with a snot/ dribble mixture running down my cheek to the pillow!... Had to bail out of a meeting in London yesterday which I really wanted to go to but glad I did in the end as pretty much spent the entire evening on the sofa anyway.. House looks like a bombs gone off in it!

Does raspberry leaf tea have any raspberry taste as I wouldn't mind that so much.. I'm not really one for drinks without caffeine but I can make an exception for anything that might help!!

maybebabybee · 04/02/2016 09:41

crispy that's utter bollocks about taxis not taking women in labour, I live in North London and the vast majority of women in my area take a taxi to the hospital as there is no parking! I would look up taxi firms in your area and give them all a call to see if they will take you or not. Then you can have a list ready. I think you'll find many will.

Glad to hear re: positive scan doc

TheMshipIsBack · 04/02/2016 09:41

Crispy Some taxi firms will take women in labour. Ring around your local ones to check. With DS I had my waters break at home with meconium and contractions started right away so I couldn't drive. Luckily DH was there, but I had the number of a taxi for just that sort of eventuality. Also just to reassure you, even if you are in that situation, it took us about 90 minutes from water breaking until arriving at the hospital, which if you add up the 60 minutes for your mum plus 30 to your hospital is the same. I'd be willing to bet that even if your DH was home or you were able to get a taxi, it'd take you half an hour to get out the door! You can use that time to call triage at the hospital to let them know you're coming, have a shower, get into your labouring clothes, double check your bags, and make sure to put in a maternity pad so they can examine it at the hospital. You'll also want a towel to sit on in the car, especially if you haven't had a huge gush and you're just doing the constant trickle thing.

Tomorrow's my last morning at work. I'm struggling to stay focused and finish up the last few things. It's exhausting. Talked to the midwife this morning about the walking and BH - she said I should stick close to home, but keep walking as long as it's helping my back, and rest as much as possible. Guess it's back to laps around the local park.

QforCucumber · 04/02/2016 10:05

Hello all,

sorry to hear everyones woes, nothing much to add to them here I'm afraid, another one with aches, pains, a waddle, a cold, crap sleeps etc.

Also keep forgetting today ISN'T Friday, and getting rather sad at the thought. But, finish work a week tomorrow so not long to go!

I've been told about the tea but not tried it, May have to pop to tesco and get some - anything which might make it easier can't hurt can it?!

BeautifulLiar · 04/02/2016 10:56

maybebaby I am absolutely shattered too. Yesterday I climbed into bed at 4:30pm, ignored the kids and just cried! DH was so good when he got back though.

Also got painful Braxton hicks last night but they're nothing compared to real contractions so I'm really worried about that... and fuck knows what we'll do if I go into labour before my induction date! Don't want to give birth in my new car...!

dobbythedoggy · 04/02/2016 11:00

I must be strange, with dd I found out I quite liked the taste of rasberry leaf tea. Have been given a stash by a friend and it's taunting me every time I go into the kitchen. Forcing myself to wait until I've asked the midwife's oppoinion this afternoon before I induldge in a cup. With previous c section there's advice like that on baby centere not to use it but then lots of advice on vbacs saying to drink it!

I'm another struggling a bit with back ache although mostly in my shoulders. Walking really helps, although not with the exhaustion it causes... Bump is feeling incredably heavy and lots of presure in pelivc area. Really hoping it means his started to drop down; if not dreading to think what it will feel like when he does. I keep switiching between feeling really restless and being able to do nothing but flop on the sofa/ball.

But I'll whisper, I've actually had a few nights of sleeping well other than a stumbling to the loo as long as I've go to bed after 11 I sleep through until 7-8ish depending on when dd wakes up.

q I'm days ahead of myself at the moment. Have been thinking it's friday all week long. Luckily I don't actually need to know the days.

crispy very unusual for most taxi firms not to take women in labour, there's only one locally (two very odd men who share a taxi) that doesn't. A couple charge a slightly higher rate or warn you about a soiling or cleaning charge if anything untoward happens. Definantly worth ringing around. Our hospital's website claims they will organise an ambulance/patient transport for women in labour who need to get in urgently when you call labour ward.

Anyone got any idea where a 3 year old might hide a phone charger? Dh has an very old phone and dd made off with the charger. The batery has now died just when I'd like to be able to contact him when needed. He doesn't usually use his phone is dead against replacing it and says he wants to find the original charger rather than find a replacement!

RhubarbAndMustard · 04/02/2016 12:45

[hands over ears...la la la...I can't hear you dobby]...Another one here with rubbish sleep. The pain in my pelvis is getting unbearable. I can sleep on one side for about an hour, then the pain wakes we up, so turn over..repeat x 15 through the night and with 3/4 loo visits thrown in and I'm shattered. I'm going to try sleeping upright tonight to try to limit the pelvic pain.

Beautiful I cried yesterday too. The exhaustion, plus working (only another 4 weeks to go!) and then DS telling me he didn't like me anymore (for no apparent reason), was enough to set me off into a huge blubbery mess. DP has been fantastic though with back rubs, hugs and general niceness to get me through it.

Crispy I second phoning your local cab firms and finding out which ones will take you. Many do.

I did perennial massage last time round (no idea if I did it properly though as it didn't hurt). No tearing but I had an episiotomy with forceps delivery. No raspberry leaf tea though. I couldn't work out if it was supposed to be good or best avoided, so stayed clear just in case.

ffauxlivia · 04/02/2016 17:47

Flowers to everyone feeling rubbish, it sounds like some of you are having a really rough time - we just must be getting to that point. home stretch now though! Brew and Chocolate for you

Don't hate me but I feel okay apart from rib pain, occasional sciatica and a seriously itchy belly, but I am only 33 weeks so maybe it's to come. I know I'm lucky that I don't have heartburn or any major pains ...... but I did get painful cysts in my first tri, then shingles in my second tri which was horrendous and lasted weeks!! My anxiety over terrible things happening is my major issue at the moment.

I read that the Pregnancy Gods are generally fair though - so those with difficult pregnancies in theory should have straightforward deliveries or easy babies. So I'm probably heading for a third degree tear and colicky baby Grin

Great news on the scan doc

crispy do you have Uber in your area? It's big here - we don't have a car so I have no choice but to call an Uber - I plan on bringing a big towel and hope I just get a nice understanding driver Smile They are normally very flexible and helpful compared to taxi drivers

Me624 · 04/02/2016 18:19

Evening all. I have had a super busy today, I was giving a seminar with my boss which has been stressing me out somewhat but it went really well! And now it's over it's like a weight has been lifted Smile only 2 more weeks of work now, which seems quite manageable.

DH is away tonight for work. He normally travels a fair bit and I love a night in on my own when I can watch trashy TV and cook exactly what I want for dinner etc. But tonight I feel quite vulnerable about being alone. Silly really as I'm 35+6 so chances of anything happening are still really low, if they did then he's only about 2 hours drive away so would be back before any real action started, and my parents are only 10 minutes away. All the same I've told him this should be the last trip away please! He has already said no to any international travel over the next couple of weeks and he shouldn't need to stay away any more nights in the uk either, this one was just unavoidable.

Sorry to all those who are in pain or suffering. I'm quite uncomfortable now most of the time, I wish baby would hurry up and engage because he is right up under my ribs all the time and it feels like my lungs are being compressed, my breathing is really heavy! DH says I've been snoring at night which I never normally do.

ffauxlivia · 04/02/2016 18:26

me DH said I've been snoring so loudly all week! I was so embarrassed as I also never snore normally! I offered to sleep in spare room but he said he just thought it was funny and wasn't bothered Confused

MyNameIsSuz · 04/02/2016 18:34

I think you're right ffaux, I had a dream pregnancy and great delivery last time, then had an unhappy, refluxy, clingy baby. Hopefully the fact that I've had a worse time this time will mean the baby is more chilled out! I just want one I can put down in the bouncy chair or on the floor for a few minutes, and that doesn't lower my boff-wearing standard to 'less than five bits of boff is acceptable in public'.

vroc81 · 04/02/2016 18:37

ff don't tell me that.. With the exception of two colds which are not strictly pregnancy related more the lack of taking drugs I'm aware I've had it very easy so I'll look forward to my long and painful labour... Lol

me glad your seminar went well and sure everything will be fine this evening, enjoy some snoring safe in the knowledge your not disturbing anyone!

Had my bp check and dropped back down again and MW was pleased enough with me that I'm dropped back to fortnightly appointments so that was classed as an early 36weeks.. Yikes... Got weighed, only 3kg put on since booking in although not a 40week diet plan I am going to embark on regularly!! baby all head down and ready to go apparently.... Shock

dobbythedoggy · 04/02/2016 19:06

Bump's had a major growth spurt and is currently measuring a week ahead, but midwife wasn't worried despite it being well above the top percentile as his measurments on the growth scan last week put him much lower than I was previously measuring. Glucose in urine, must remember not to go to coffee morning and indulde in cola, cake and tropical fruit salad before next appointment so I don't have to under go gtt again.

Think I've managed to pick up last few bits for hospital bag.

vroc dd was an amazing baby, other than her being breech I brezered through pregnancy and c section recovery. For the most part she was a dream baby (until 6 month sleep regretion hit).

Ohwoolballs · 04/02/2016 19:27

Evening folks,
Sorry to hear a lot of us are feeling a bit worse for wear. I had a bit of a tizz yesterday as it felt like bub wasn't moving much - even with a lot of prodding. Waited for DP to come home (was going to ring the assessment unit) and as soon as the bub heard DPs voice he was all swinging and dancing 😐 I know when I'm not the fave...
Possibly because I was so active yesterday and so lethargic today I felt the baby move loads, he's already on his third round of hiccoughs!
Fanny daggers and sciatic back ace for my troubles this eve and I'm sure I'm getting the lurgy that's going round at work... I'll stop moaning now!

12 working days left for me!

Paperblank · 04/02/2016 21:01

Well ladies, I'm on the final count down! In 16 hours I will walk out of the office for 14 months Confused.

Am looking forward to starting my Maternity Leave as DH and I have spent the afternoon doing a few jobs around the house and we've planned to blitz the to do list this weekend.

With a bit of luck once all the cleaning, sorting and odd jobs are done I can just do a quick daily whip round and spend the rest of the time with my feet up watching crap telly with a cuppa.

One of the mums from my ante-natal group has had her baby, she was 10 days early and was 8lb 2oz and she's such a pretty baby! Heart meltingly gorgeous.

As DH said earlier on "this shizz is getting real".

Hope you all have a good night's sleep.

Xx

MyNameIsSuz · 04/02/2016 21:07

Ooh paper how exciting! I've got two more weeks and can't wait to finish.

Me624 · 05/02/2016 07:52

Have a good last day at work Paper! Two more weeks for me too Suz.

I was fine last night with DH away! I got into bed at 9 intending to read my book for an hour or so but I was asleep by half past. Woke a couple of times for the loo but otherwise I had the best night's sleep in ages, it was so nice to have the whole bed to myself and be able to thrash around without worrying about disturbing DH!
