Wow! First here. Well actually mine #2 is due 30th Sept by dates but as DD was 10d late I guess Oct is the place to be. I was in Oct 14 so Oct 16 seems to be the right place to be. Anyone else?

daydream have you told anyone yet? I'm also turning 30 soon and think the fact that I don't be drinking will be so obvious I don't know if we might as well just tell people x

Peppaspants · 10/02/2016 17:06

Same as Juliette on a private scan for me-booked in for 8w2d so I can see if things are progressing before I go on holidays.

Figgygal · 10/02/2016 17:31

I have a group midwife appointment tomorrow will only be 6wks but we have to do this group session now apparently before we can book in for a 1-2-1 I assume they cover generic things in the group session like diet, lifestyle, scans, symptoms and then it speeds up the duration of the 1-2-1. A friend of mine did it last year and said it was a waste of time but if it is the only way to get my booking in appointment will have to show willing.

I am 12 weeks on 24th March same day I am going to see family on other side of country if I don't drink it will be so obvious so I think I might have to pay for a private scan if I don't get booked in for NHS one before then. I am not telling anyone I feel really paranoid this time and uneasy that I have zero symptoms other than being in bed by 9pm every night.

Alwaysinahurrynow · 10/02/2016 17:42

wonder the Harmony test uses your blood to give a more accurate position on the probability of a baby with Down's syndrome (and a couple of other syndromes) than the Nuchal translucency test. It's not infallible (you would still need one of the invasive tests to know for certain) and I'm only having it as I'm getting older. I had the Nuchal test for my two previous pregnancies, which is the standard one on the NHS if you choose to take the test (you can choose not to obviously).

MrBensMrs · 10/02/2016 18:41

We're also booked in for an early scan - I will be 7+1 - we thought to break the time up and hopefully lessen the worry for £75 was worth it and they seemed lovely on the phone!
Can I moan again how crap I feel and I don't think it's pregnancy related?? Wish this virus would feck orf now!

MrBensMrs · 10/02/2016 18:42

always can I be rude and ask how old you are? I'm 34 in April and I guess that would class me as quite old in comparison to many first time moms - do they recommend certain tests after 30?

wetsnow · 10/02/2016 19:04

WelCome to our new friends.

Exhausting day and still loads to do.

Got my scan date! 31st March. :)

pandaglasses · 10/02/2016 19:12

figgy that's pretty much the only symptom I've got so far too. I've been absolutely exhausted today.

Allhallowseve · 10/02/2016 19:14

Glad to see lots more people joining ! I have a few more symptoms .... Slight nausea and I'm knackered but that could be to do with ds being awake for 2 hours in the night then up at 5.30 am!! Shock

Reluctantnympho · 10/02/2016 19:24

I'm 38 and considering the harmony test

bananafish81 · 10/02/2016 19:27

I'm 34 and will do Harmony (assuming we get to 10 weeks). Everyone regardless of age is offered the nuchal translucency scan but Harmony and other NIPT (non invasive prenatal testing) tests like Panorama are private only. Although apparently Harmony is likely to be available on the NHS before long...

MrBensMrs · 10/02/2016 19:30

Thanks banana does the mid wife talk about non NHS tests? I hadn't heard of the harmony test - off to google!

wetsnow · 10/02/2016 19:34

I would have got a free harmony test if I had chosen my scan at kings and they had found a problem... decided not to as I live next door to the other scan hospital option. Don't know if that was a mistake...

Beyond exhausted but meeting my friend for a run... can't bail on her. 😐

bananafish81 · 10/02/2016 19:34

No idea sorry Mr Ben - I've not yet seen a midwife and this is my first pregnancy so I've no clue what to expect from midwife appointments. Hopefully all being well at some point I'll find out!! I just know most of my friends did the test so know about it from them...

Figgygal · 10/02/2016 19:35

I've just turned 35 hadn't thought of the tests yet might depend on outcome of nuchal

MrBensMrs · 10/02/2016 19:41

wetsnow fair play! I haven't run since New Year's Day! Hope it goes well!

figgy and banana I'm the oldest in my friend group, and no one's mentioned it! Have just googled it, £375 but you have a pretty definitive answer in 3-5 working days! Probably a good idea after the nuchal test I reckon - god there's so much to think about! It's quite overwhelming as a first pregnancy! X

Dilligufdarling · 10/02/2016 20:02

Evening all!
Am sitting in an airport waiting for my flight home. It's half 1 in the morning here and I'm desperately trying to stay awake so I'll sleep on the plane!
Still nauseous, still have sore boobs and today have been annoyingly weepy.
I'm not going to tell work until after the bonus/pay rise season in March...
I know they're not legally allowed to let that affect things, and yet I'm quite sure I'll fare better if they don't know until afterwards.
GrinGrin
I had an early scan last time around 7 weeks due to some spotting - it was amazing seeing the heartbeat! Hadn't planned to this time, but may research locations and prices near me.
Hope all of you sleepless ones have a better night

Alwaysinahurrynow · 10/02/2016 20:13

What banana said re the Harmony test. I'll be 37 by the time the baby's here. I don't know if the midwives talk about it as it wasn't really available until 2/3 years ago.

LisaTheGreek · 10/02/2016 20:14

Sorry for ignorance and naivety. Can someone please explain what Harmony tests are? And what tests do we get on the NHS vs private only?

Thank you!

daydream86 · 10/02/2016 20:34

I've told a handful of friends and relatives, and I plan on telling one or two more as and when I see them in late Feb, people who I would turn to if anything was upsetting me anyway. I'm rubbish at keeping secrets and I'm way too giddy about it all! it's our annivasary on the 9th, the perfect day for a private scan I rek x

melonribena · 10/02/2016 20:52

Evening everyone!! Fab news about your scan date Wetsnow!
**
Welcome Espresso! Im in the Midlands too!

Had a busy day at work and a house full for a late pancake day! Ready for a sit down now!

A previous poster mentioned their c section scar itching. Mine itched like crazy today! Another symptom I want expecting!

Has anyone tried travel sickness bands for nausea?

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/02/2016 20:58

Harmony test is a blood test that uses baby Dna in maternal blood to check for downs and other trisomies. There are two outcomes, positive or negative). I had it last time privately with DD1. At the time there were no reported false positives.

Nhs offer combined screening - a scan which looks for common markers of downs and measures the fluid at the back of the neck, combined with a blood test, and your age, to calculate a risk, eg 1 in 3000 risk. If this is calculated as "high" risk vs your age group you will be offered an invasive test to give a true negative or positive result. All of these tests are optional

Checking in. Started anti emetics tonight

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/02/2016 21:00

I've been wearing the pressure bands and they do take the edge off. They're recommended by the nhs, along with other things, to control the nausea

melonribena · 10/02/2016 21:03

Thanks merkin, I'll get some over the weekend

Afreshstartplease · 10/02/2016 21:29
