I get ligament pain all the flipping time! I was surprised as this is DC2.

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/01/2016 12:51

Scan was all good. Baby bear was being awkward so took an extra 20 minutes to do all the heart checks but all is well :) team yellow here! (by choice, but baby wasn't letting the sonographer know anyway so good job really)

Eastend2015 · 19/01/2016 13:08

Congratulations on all the positive signs. I'm beginning to feel a bit more positive about ours in a couple of weeks now the flutterings have started again. We had a really good meeting with the consultant yesterday to cover epilepsy and I lying genetics issues and she confirmed that if something was going to go wrong it probably would have done already. We knew that, but having an expert tell us really helped 😊

jellybelly85 · 19/01/2016 15:18

Glad everyone's scans have gone well. Decided to colour code the stats document - hope no one minds!

I'm 18w 5d and think I've felt a couple of flutters. Was very strange, almost like a teeny tiny fart inside my belly vibrating. Still a while until my scan on 1st Feb. Head is full of snot and cold (ergh) which is horrible, but my nausea has all but disappeared (touch wood) and quite enjoying having a little bump.

Not planning to buy anything for baby until we've moved to Yorkshire - not even started thinking about it yet. Will definitely need advice and guidance though - been interesting following the thread.

bikingintherain · 19/01/2016 15:28

Sounds like there is lots of positive news from people. So nice to hear.

I went to get maternity essentials like tights, vest tops and leggings. Oh and two other tops to take me all the way through. It felt nice to know I have some clothes that fit, and also things I can wear to make my other clothes work (cardigans, jackets etc). It was quite expensive though. Haven't told DH yet, and thankfully he hasn't worked out how to use the online banking yet so maybe he won't find out! He knows it was needed, so won't really mind, but still!

carrie1008 · 19/01/2016 15:38

Hi everyone - so lovely to hear everyone's exciting scan news...still two weeks to wait for mine Envy I do seem to be kept on my toes with a sore hip and occasional numb bum cheek which is fun!!

I'm after a bit of advice for those of you who have done this before...carrycots...useful to buy, or waste of money? I'm going to be using a sling from newborn and wondered how much use you actually get from the carrycot on a travel system. It's just all so confusing!!

Is anyone going to the Baby Show at ExCel in Feb? I'll be there on Saturday or Sunday, hopefully to pick people's brains and start buying a few bits!

bikingintherain · 19/01/2016 15:49

carrie I never got on with slings, maybe the ones I tried just didn't suit me, but it meant the carry cot got a lot of use.

Belleboo23 · 19/01/2016 16:00

Carrie I walk alot because dh has the car and I got alot of use out of the carrycot last time, I'm going to get a sling aswell mainly for when I'm walking the dog over the fields but wondering if it be too hot and uncomfortable to wear one if we get a good summer. If you go for a carrycot have a good look around because some are quite small so may not last as long

mrsmugoo · 19/01/2016 16:04

I didn't use my carrycot at all - I took DS out in the car seat attached to the pushchair chassis as he would scream blue murder in the carry cot.

No way would he ever be in it too long as he was out of it being breastfed every bloody hour!

Lovelybeano · 19/01/2016 16:06

Re slings I don't think we have a sling library locally, I didn't even realise one existed Hmm I will do some research xx
I've had movement for a couple of weeks but not very strong yet, I'm 18+2 now so it won't be long until the kicks get stronger Grin I'm super tired all the time, is anyone else? I keep having to nap in the day between clients, I feel like an old lady lol weightwise i only have a 5lb gain so far, although I do look like I've put on 10st haha, swapped body combat for Zumba twice a week and a session of body balance seem to be helping me stay supple, although picking things up off the floor is beginning to feel like I'm squashing baby.
Hope everyone else has ha da good day xx

Potkettleblack2 · 19/01/2016 16:24

I used my carrycot loads as I walked everywhere and although I used a sling too I found the carrycot worked v well for me. We've moved house since and don't live as near the town so I'll be driving more this time so I don't know if the carrycot will get as much use this time.

Yes-still exhausted and have work until 9 this eve-feeling sorry for myself!!! I also have constant heartburn!

jbiscuits · 19/01/2016 17:44

I used our carrycot a lot too. I wanted to use the sling more, but it was a hot summer. It was also useful for baby to nap in when we were out and about for longer periods, such visiting friends and family. Ours came with the pram though, so it didn't feel like we were paying extra for it (even though the cost was just included in the price).

Betty79 · 19/01/2016 18:11

Hi everyone, had my 20 wk scan today, all was good. Baby was being a bit awkward, she had me tilted back on the bed for about 10 mins, was not the most comfortable scan I've had, but she got a look at all the important bits. I asked about the gender (even though we found out at private scan) and was told no boy parts to be seen although baby was in an awkward position so it's still a girl lol

laughingGnomette · 19/01/2016 18:41

Many congratulations on the scans!

DS hated his carry cot (bugaboo cameleon) and we only used it for 8 weeks as he used to scream his head off in it. :(
We used a sling too (Ergo) which I loved when DS was about 12 weeks + but it didnt work too well for us when he was newborn, it was quite hot too (he was born in may). I'm going to try out a stretchy lightweight one for this baby - hopefully it'll work better for us in those first few weeks.

MollieRos · 19/01/2016 18:50

Great news on the scans Smile

beano I'm also starting to feel like I'm squishing the baby when I bend down to the floor. My bump isn't even that big yet, so goodness knows what it'll be like one I have a huge bump!

Someone was asking a few days ago (sorry, I can't find who now) about whether it's that bad to lie on your back. I've read lots that it's best not to lie on your back for long periods after about 16 weeks because the weight of the baby and placenta presses on a major vein, so it can make you feel sick and dizzy and affect blood flow and nutrients to the placenta. I read a study which said that the best outcomes for the baby were with women who slept on the left side, followed by sleeping on their right side, then sleeping on your back the worst (though the info was from women reporting after pregnancy, so may not be that accurate). But everything I've read also says that you shouldn't stress if you start on your side then wake up on your back- you should just move yourself back onto your side, and try and avoid sleeping on your back as best you can.

Spock27 · 19/01/2016 20:15

I've got my scan tomorrow, getting nervous! Had this dream which has turned into an irrational fear that the sonographer told me there was no baby and that my bump is just from eating too much...

I heard about sling libraries last week, apparently there's one near me so I'll be using that to find something suitable. Highly doubt it'll be too hot to use one, very rarely grays that hot on the east coast of Scotland Envy

mrsmugoo · 19/01/2016 20:24

I've got mine tomorrow too Spock!

Torfhinn · 19/01/2016 20:30

Good scan news from me as well! Everything present and correct and still team yellow!

jbiscuits · 19/01/2016 21:07

Great to hear all the positive scan news Smile Good luck to those who have them tomorrow.

Our double buggy came today (got to love amazon prime!), so we've put that up and then back down again tonight. Starting to feel a bit more real now. Will be sorting out the baby clothes before I know it!

Spock27 · 19/01/2016 22:00

Good luck mrsmugoo!

Belvedere · 19/01/2016 23:02

Laughing I'm planning on a stretchy sling for the newborn weeks too. Have you looked at them yet? We have an ergo which I loved but it's just too hot with the insert in the summer.

I'm not planning on a double buggy as ds will be nearly three and I'm hoping a mixture of sling:buggy:buggy board will work. I'm finding it all a bit daunting!

MindfulBear · 19/01/2016 23:03

is anyone in London on here? I am back from overseas and need to choose between St Georges or Kingston...... (have also posted the full question in the childbirth and pregnancy sections of MN!!)

any thoughts would be appreciated :)

Eastend2015 · 20/01/2016 00:21

Hi Mindful, I'm in London but at St. Thomas's, I'm getting good care there but don't know much about St. Georges or Kingston.

Thanks Mollie that was me. I find it really hard to sleep on my side. NHS advice is only that it "may" be more comfortable after 16 weeks and points out about organs getting squashed later on. There is also this article which is quite interesting - www.nhs.uk/news/2011/06June/Pages/mothers-sleeping-position-and-risk-of-stillbirth.aspx. One to keep under review but my bump is still quite small at the minute!

BiffleRoo · 20/01/2016 06:34

belvedere I have 2 stretchy wraps. A moby and a lollipop organic. I'm not bothering with a double either, I will manage with pram/pushchair and sling or just wear both in tandem.

Rescan at 1200 today so everything crossed nipper flashes their bits!

Mrspopper · 20/01/2016 07:24

Hi mindful. DD was born at kingston. The birth was good and I felt well looked after. The after care was a bit rubbish. I work at George's a bit. It's much busier than kingston I don't know about the maternity stuff there but it will be bigger. Parking an arse in both places so if one is nearer/more accessible I'd choose that one. Kingston has nice midwife led unit which I've heard good things about. Where abouts are you? You might be not far from myself and pot kettle.
