Yep, I have heard that to Jellybaby ... That's why I am planning sleepyhead during the day and cot (without sleepy head except first couple of weeks maybe) at night. IS it wishful thinking that that will work or will baby love sleepyhead during the day so much that he might not want to go in the cot at night?

Hmm they are expensive not sure ill be able to convince dh it's necessary after spending 150 on the next to me. If anyone hears of a cheaper alternative do let me know...just had the visa bill with the icandy peach on so not a good time to ask him!!!

strawberrypenguin · 05/02/2016 10:46

We're going for Moses basket then into full size cot. It worked last time so fingers crossed it will work again!

mrsmugoo · 05/02/2016 11:10

Mine hated the Moses basket last time so after about 6 weeks of really stressing out about it I co-slept with him until he was about 16 weeks then I had to get him used to the mini cot we had in the corner of our room because he was rolling and also we only have a double and we were all so hot squashed in there together!

I would love a co-sleeper but I don't think I can justify it just for 4ish months of use.

This one is going to have to stay in our room beyond 6 months this time as she can't go in with her brother until she sleeps through. DS was sleeping through nicely by 8 months so fingers crossed its not much longer than that as I was desperate to get my room back!

nehagarg · 05/02/2016 11:13

Same here mrsmugoo .. Dont have a huge bed and dont want to shell out on a co-sleeper only for a few months use. Planning to buy a drop side cot and push it to the bed to make a giant co-sleeper. During the day the sleepy head will suffice around the house.

Bed nests are also a good option- you can rent one directly from their site with a new mattress much more cheaply than buying new. I prefer the Chicco though as you can change the incline if they are snuffly or have reflux. Plus it doubles as a portable lightweight travel cot which will be good for us.

Torfhinn · 05/02/2016 12:18

Bought baby's going home outfit and blanket. Got a bit weepy looking at all the baby clothes! Smile

Only my second post but have been trying to follow the chat - thought I'd share my scan pic from today :) All good and a very acrobatic baby! Staying team yellow for a surprise.

On the sleeping front - it's our first so no idea what will work best but hoping a Moses basket then straight into a cot like you strawberry might be ok.

Hope all goes well for your scan Belle

Wow, look at those super long legs. Gorgeous scan pic Grapefruit. congratulations Smile

Torfhinn .. Those look really cute. My mum's having the fun of buying the going home outfit for us as that's what Iranian grandparents (on my mum's side) do traditionally. Cant wait to see what she buys.

Great idea Eastend. Didnt know there was a renting option, will look into it. Thanks. No travelling for us so don't have travel cot on the list.

Ahhh how lovely Grapefruit, that's a really good image. Torfhinn those look so cute! I have a first batch of lovely colourful but unisex baby grows arriving from Next tomorrow. Can't wait!

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/02/2016 13:16

I'm finding it difficult to find bright coloured unisex baby clothes (have a few sleep suits from essential one) especially vests and socks. Where are people shopping?

Eastend2015 · 05/02/2016 13:49

Caterpillars See above- next is good. You need to look in the baby girl's section bizarrely. John Lewis have some nice dinosaur and animal print ones in the boy's section which still look relatively unisex. www.next.co.uk/girls/newborn-girls/unisex/1

Belleboo23 · 05/02/2016 14:00

I'm sure somebody said they were still using the chicco at 7/8 months if we hadn't got a weekend away in july think I'd have gone for the white wooden one john Lewis do that's a Co sleeper and then a cot. Wondering if I should just go for that now and get a cheap travel cot or something
..can't decide!!

Eastend2015 · 05/02/2016 14:15

Sounds interesting Belle, can you post a link?

laughingGnomette · 05/02/2016 14:25

I'm also looking for bright babygros and I'm not a fan of the plain white or pastel blue ones. DS's first outfit was flouresent yellow and white stripes with a rainbow hat Grin.
I found Next are good, also mothercare little bird things are colourful.

Potkettleblack2 · 05/02/2016 15:34

We just did a Moses basket and then normal cot with DS1 and it worked fine. I didn't know what options were available then and just thought that's what everyone did! For now we'll stick with that unless we have a bad sleeper and need to try an alternative.
I also think next do nice colourful babygrows and think their quality is quite good. We don't know the sex of the baby and I'm thinking of getting www.next.co.uk/x572784s4#374799
And maybe www.next.co.uk/x572796s5#123967
(Sorry-I don't know how to link!)

BiffleRoo · 05/02/2016 16:20

We have an Amby hammock to start off with but seen as DH will be away for first 9 months will probably co sleep the majority of the time.

MollieRos · 05/02/2016 16:43

I had discounted the idea of getting a chicco next to me/snuzpod as they're so expensive, but I'm wondering if it would be worth splashing out. I really like the idea that they create a sort of extension to the mattress so there's a safe space right next to you the baby can sleep. but perhaps a moses basket would be fine? It's so tricky not knowing!

We were handed down a big box of clothes which was amazing. Almost all the clothes are blue though, so I'm hoping we can acquire some different colours along the way- I can't really justify buying any clothes now as we have so many, but I would really prefer him not to be in blue all the time!! (so ungrateful Smile)

Also congratulations emma and grapefruit!

mrsmugoo · 05/02/2016 17:04

I've got umpteen plain white babygros from last time and will just buy as I go this time - they're cheap as chips from supermarkets and H&M etc...

Torfhinn · 05/02/2016 17:22

Boots miniclub do lovely bright clothes, not just blue and pink. They are a bit pricey but they often have good sakes so worth checking online from time to time. Personally, i prefer newborns in pastels/white, but love colour when they are older Smile

mollie, first time, we went from moses basket to big cot and that worked well. Trouble with moses baskets is that they are quite narrow and babies tend to sleep with their arms out to the side, so they can grow out of them quickly. This time, i can't fit a full size cot in our bedroom so need something smaller that will last 6 months, hence the crib.

MollieRos · 05/02/2016 18:23

Torfhinn We can't fit a full sized cot either so we'll need something to last 6 months that is also small enough for our room. What's the difference between a moses basket and a crib then? (this seems like a stupid question but I think I've been using the names interchangeably). Are cribs a bit bigger? Are snuzpod type things more of a crib?

Eastend2015 · 05/02/2016 19:23

As I understand it, a crib is a bit bigger than a Moses basket, some rock, some are co sleeping like the snuzpod, Chicco or bednest (adjustable to the height of your bed and can take a side down to make it easier to breast feed). With the snuzpod you can also take the bassinet part off the legs and move it around the house like a Moses basket.

A cotbed is bigger again and seems more appropriate when they go into their own room at a few months old (NHS seems to recommend after 6 months but many of my friends moved theirs at about 3-4 months). Some of these can be rebuilt into a junior bed when the child is 2+.

dollydaydream84 · 05/02/2016 19:45

Torfhinn that outfit is lovely, where is it from please? I am having no success in finding a nice neutral outfit so this could be a winner! :)

Belvedere · 05/02/2016 20:24

I love newborns in white. It's the only time they can really wear it. It's super sweet!

Snowflake16 · 05/02/2016 20:31

mollie this is my crib I've just brought from Mothercare.
I like that i can have it pushed right up towards our bed and see baby but still have our own spaces, I can also reach in to settle her. It should last until she's 6-7months and doesn't take up too much space.
