Thanks laughing. My labour was textbook. Due to mismanagement ended up in EMCS, junior staff panicked and basically rushed to EMCS when I could have delivered given a bit of time. Was fully dilated and at pushing stage. Will look through that link thanks.

Did u also have an EMCS before

laughingGnomette · 27/01/2016 14:13

Yes, I had one with DS. I laboured for over 24 hours with the syntocinon drip and just couldn't get past 3cm. DS then went into distress so EMCS had to happen. I have very little faith that my body won't let me down again and the thought of having another EMCS is not appealing. That's said, I have a feeling of guilt and that I 'ought to' try for a natural delivery that I just can't shake.

Your birth sounds very frustrating!! It's a really shame that you are even in this position when it could have been very different. Good luck with whatever you decide, I can completely understand how your cousin's experience has worried you.

emma85x · 27/01/2016 16:13

jellybelly am I right in saying you're staying team yellow? When is your scan? I think we're due date buddies! 16/6/16. Cool dob!

Those of you will DCs, did any of you try hypnobirthing? Very interested in it but want to pay hundreds of pounds for a course!!

Also - apart from What you expect when you're expecting, can anyone recommend any good books for a first time mum? I have so much to learn ! Thanks x

nehagarg · 27/01/2016 16:22

emma .. I'd recommend Brain Rules for Baby by John Medina. Its brilliant and based on proper scientific studies, instead of granny wisdom and old wives tales. The book is about dos and donts from pregnancy to age 5.

Emma I found "your baby week by week" really great after DS was born-I inherited a library of baby books but this was the one I found most user friendly!

I didn't do hypnobirthing but a friend did and she found it great. I was very lucky though and had a very easy labour (less than 2 hours, only in hospital for a half an hour before DS arrived)-let's see what this baby decides to put me through!!!

bikingintherain · 27/01/2016 16:49

emma I didn't do hypnobirthing with previous two. However, I very much concentrated on remaining calm, breathing well, moving about and just being in my own little zone, I didn't really want much interaction from anyone. I wonder if I looked into it I would be taking principles from the hypnobirthing.

Having said that in NCT they talked a little about it, and breathing out a golden thread, and imagining your cervix open. I didn't really buy into any of that. I'm sure if a women could think her cervix open she would have done!

But as I say I haven't looked into it really and so perhaps I'm judging some aspects of it unfairly.

mrsmugoo · 27/01/2016 17:17

I didn't actually get to use it because I ended up with an ELCS but I enjoyed juju sundin's birth skills book and I'll be re- reading it this time if I actually make it to a VBAC!

I did enjoy natal hypnotherapy as relaxation in later stages of (very uncomfortable, breech) pregnancy but the birth skills book seemed more on my wavelength of accepting it's going to be painful and not pretending otherwise and using techniques such as vocalisation to stay in control.

mrsmugoo · 27/01/2016 17:19

Emma85 - I recommend staying away from the books! The only one that I think is a great read is the womanly art of breastfeeding. That book got me through some dark times!!

Violet88 · 27/01/2016 17:50

I'm reading "the good birth companion" I think it seems pretty good and also "what to expect: the first year".

strawberrypenguin · 27/01/2016 18:06

I think I've got a copy of 'your baby week by week' on my bookshelf from last time but I don't think I used it much! Mumsnet answered most questions I had! Or we found our own way.
I didn't do hypnobirhing emma so can't really comment, I don't think it's very 'me'. I had an induction last time (planned) and drugs!

iamdivergent · 27/01/2016 18:42

Scan tomorrow, feel like this pregnancy is going by fast!

GrubbyWindows · 27/01/2016 19:19

Good luck divergent!

emma I really like Penelope leach, Your baby and child. I found "what to expect" had quite a clear idea of what your life might be like, and it wasn't how my life was! But v good for looking up maladies. Leach I found less judgemental than most, also well written and with good pics. But I also agree with whoever said to keep off the books, or at least read them with an enormous pinch of salt. If anyone writes that they know how to solve your problem if you just follow the steps in their instructions...put your bullshit detecting goggles on, as my dad was fond of saying.

jellybelly85 · 27/01/2016 20:19

High five emma85x - 160616 here too, and scan on Monday. We're hoping to stay team yellow - how about you?

I've got the rough guide to pregnancy - good book to dip in and out of, with a sense of humour.

CheersMrSunfresh · 27/01/2016 20:31

I also found "Your baby week by week" a useful basic guide when both my boys were babies. I particularly liked the fact it was succinct and so it didn't take up too much time to gain the basic info. But yes take all baby books with a pinch of salt, each baby is so different, take the bits that make sense to you and ignore the rest.

Coldest I also got to fully dilated and pushing for 45mins with ds1 but ds heart rate kept dropping so had EMCS, had a VBAC with ds2 which was tough but it was the right decision for me. Emma I'm looking into the wise hippo hypnobirthing course for this labour, I like the fact one of its tag lines is "the right birth on the day" and so takes in to consideration that things don't always go quite to plan. I'm quite excited about doing the course.

Good luck tomorrow Divergent and anyone else having scans in the next few days!

earlgreydrinker · 27/01/2016 21:20

Hi everyone, apologies haven't been on the board for ages - will have to go back and catch up. Hope everyone is doing well.

Baby has turned into a real wriggler (posterior placenta this time and it seems to make a huge difference in what you feel!).

Scan tomorrow and very very excited (I have a professional exam to get through first though!). However, DH has gone a bit quiet about the whole thing. He said tonight that he feels a huge amount of pressure to 'have produced a boy' and that it was kind of expected of him from a young age. Is this a bit weird? Its not like the family needs an heir or anything. He says he will be happy whatever it is but i can't help feel he is going to be dissapointed if its a girl. I have already said we are stopping at 2!

nehagarg · 28/01/2016 08:26

Good luck for your scan earlgrey. I would talk to him to find out why he is feeling this way if its not the matter of an heir.

My DH wqs focusing on a boy too in the first few weeks, mainly because his family is very boy focused (they do say they dont care but they were very relieved when we told them its a boy. Actually said that it doesnt matter what the second one is now. Sheesh!) ... Anyway, once I spoke with DH and explained to him that heirs dont matter and its what each person does with his life that creates his legacy, he understood. He does have a ridiculously common lastname and its not like his heir is going to be able to do much with a name a million other prople have. Wink

Good luck to all the scaness today.
Mine is on the 15th

laughingGnomette · 28/01/2016 10:00

Good luck to all with scans today!!

earlgrey - crikey, poor DH, It's not like he gets to choose which sperm meets the egg. :) Do you think it's a name continuation thing?

laughingGnomette · 28/01/2016 10:13

With regards to books, I didn't read any with DS. There were a couple of resources (other then MN) that I found particularly useful:

Kellymom.com - great breast feeding advice, really helped to clarify why my boobs were doing weird things.

The wonder weeks app - I don't think it's free unfortunately but I found it a spookily accurate baby timeline and helped to identify why my baby didn't sleep well at 3 months and why he was particularly grizzly at x weeks.

There are probably much better ones out there these days but these were the two that stood out for me 3-4 years ago.

Potkettleblack2 · 28/01/2016 10:33

earlgrey my DH felt the same with DC1. It meant I felt huge pressure too-even though there was nothing either of us could have done! I'm sorry I'm no help on how to handle it but thought I'd let you know he's not the only one! Are you finding out the sex? Good luck in the exam!

BiffleRoo · 28/01/2016 11:02

Has anyone else had a resurgence of nausea? I'm 20+6 and have been feeling sick for the last 10 days or so and actually sick a few times too. Thought I was passed this bit Hmm

emma85x · 28/01/2016 11:07

Thank you to everyone for the book suggestions. Going to order all of them!!! Smile

Earlgrey Good luck with your scan today. Thinking of you. I'm also in the same boat with DH. He really wants a son, it's a name continuation thing. I'm convinced we're having a girl (DTD 2 days before ovulation, heartbeat of 154, DH has older sister and lots of females on his side of the family) and I know he'll de disappointed if it's a girl. But hey ho! He'll get used to the idea!

seafoodeatit · 28/01/2016 11:11

So envious of people finding out the gender! I have to wait another 11 days/feb 8th to find out, it's taking too long!

Belleboo23 · 28/01/2016 11:16

Biffle I'm still getting it seriously thinking of going doctors tomorrow I've not been sick over the last couple of weeks but getting the nausea almost every morning. Last night couldn't eat dinner ended up with dry cornflakes!

Belleboo23 · 28/01/2016 11:17

Meant to say not been sick much...only twice maybe
