So Ive finally decided to do something FOR ME ignored what my mum and sisters said and Im having the 4D scan on Sunday where I shall find out what the gender of my little one will be GrinGrinGrin I AM SO EXCITED!!! Its only £55 (which I thought is quite cheap for what Im getting!) and its spare money I have.. Not that I need to justify myself because Im making me happy Smile

Work have listened about my shifts, not been given long ones after next week although 1 shift I start at 6am... Just to power through the early ones next week!

Thom80 · 04/02/2016 17:38

Scare - I am really pleased that you have booked in for a private scan. I am having a private one tomorrow afternoon. I have been incredibly anxious and need some reassurance. Fingers crossed. I know I won't be sleeping tonight.

Pleased that everyone is doing so well. I have my 16 week appt next week. As this is my first time, not sure what to expect.

Lucia82 · 04/02/2016 17:47

Congrats on the scans, booked scans and good cervix news! Where else would such a sentence be written but in our groupSmile
I ended up being told off by an elderly bra fitting lady at m and s as I should have booked a fitting not just tried one on and asked for advice Confused it was really annoying. Like being a naughty child.
I ended up with a two pack of horrible, but they are comfy and winter clothes don't allow anything peaking over. They are also nursing bras- though I plan to investigate the Elle macpherson nursing bras when the time comes as they also go up to big sizes while looking really pretty. It will be a treat at the right time!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 04/02/2016 17:51

scase not only are we due date buddies but I also have a private gender scan booked on Sunday as well! Random Grin

primarynoodle · 04/02/2016 19:26

youandme so jealous. 2 weeks today til my anomoly scan! Wish it would come sooner

thom my first 16 week appointment lasted all of 2 minutes where she told me i had immunity to all the major things (e.g. rubella), asked if i had any questions then sent me on my way. My booking appointment took forever! Maybe you will still get a heartbeat listened to but judging from peoples experiences on here you might need to ask!

Its been a week since the amnio for me so i think the miscarriage riskis all but none now, feeling much more relaxed! Still not going to buy anything til after 20 werk scan but im starting to enjoy looking at the newborn stuff in sainsburys clothes section!

On another note for those who have already beeen through the baby stage, how long do newborns stay in newborn size as opposed to 0-3?

Bluebell20 · 04/02/2016 19:29

Cookies and Cheery, glad to know I'm not the only one piling it on!! I'm not eating or exercising any differently to normal, so I am just going to assume it is all natural and try not to fuss about it.

Lucia, how horrible of the M&S lady - I had no idea you had to book, either. I just had a quick squizz at some nursing bras on various sites. I quite like the look of this one from John Lewis, but its one review is a bad one! Figleaves have a couple of nice-ish ones. Basically they all seem to have enormous cups, which is absolutely not my usual style. I prefer the plunge bra look, like this, but I don't think they do those in non-wired / nursing!!!!

YouandMe, really glad it's going well for you now. Have you been able to see your dad yet?

Scase, delighted about your news on both shifts and scan. Good for you - it's your money, and if you can afford it, you should be able to treat yourself with whatever you like. That scan will bring you far more pleasure than anything else!

Oof, my friend is arriving late tomorrow night to stay for the weekend and the house is the dirtiest and messiest it has been in ages. I am entirely relying on the time I have after I get home from school to sort it out... I will be so embarrassed if it isn't clean when she gets here. It honestly looks like some kind of hovel. In every. single. room.

Scase1firsttimemum · 04/02/2016 19:35

Allthegood- No way! What a coincidence!! What time is your appointment?

I am very happy I booked the scan, I can afford it and its made me happy and given me something to look forward too! I do too much to keep others happy, my turnGrin

What are nursing bras like? Are they more/less padded, I need to look into these if I want to nurse!

Bluebell20 · 04/02/2016 19:38

Scase they are detachable at the top of the cup so that you can kind of peel one cup down to nurse. And I think they have pockets in the cups where you can put pads to absorb leakage!

Thom80 · 04/02/2016 19:45

I have just taken a look at nursing bras and agree that they are so frumpy. Is there a reason why none of them are under wired?

CultureSucksDownWords · 04/02/2016 19:57

primarynoodle how long they stay in newborn depends on how big your baby is! My DS was 9lbs 13oz (about 4.5kg) and long, so he wasn't in newborn at all! Straight into 0-3 months.

I would only buy a few newborn outfits, but plenty of 0-3, as they will be in 0-3 at some point so you will use it. You can always send DP/DH out to grab some more newborn size if you need it. Also, people will give you lots of clothes, especially if it's your first!

18 + 2

CultureSucksDownWords · 04/02/2016 20:00

Thom underwires can affect your breast tissue and cause blockages which can turn into mastitis. The figleaf website has some with "soft" underwire which is meant to be less bad that normal underwiring. Also, underwiring would be very uncomfortable in the early days I think.

Thom80 · 04/02/2016 20:06

Culture - thank you, that is really helpful. Sounds like a good reason to avoid underwiring!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 04/02/2016 20:10

scase it's at 12 what time is yours? I totally agree with doing something nice for yourself after the week you've had! It's your hard earned money so spend it however you like Wink

mascaraisamust · 04/02/2016 20:29

Scase and allthegoodnames, my scan is on Saturday Grin can't wait either!!

Scase1firsttimemum · 04/02/2016 20:30

Bluebell- ahh I see, may have to have a look but not liking the sound of frumpy!

Allthegood- ahh mines at 3pm!! If I'd have booked earlier than today, probably would have got an earlier slot! Gunna be a nervous wreck all day!

Scase1firsttimemum · 04/02/2016 20:31

Mascara- how exciting for you! Loving all these scans coming in again, means loads of new photos of babies Grin

mascaraisamust · 04/02/2016 20:35

Scase I got a pack of two from mothercare that aren't frumpy, ones pink with a bit of lace. So comfy!! Annoyed though as I was measured by them and told I was a DD, after a week of digging in I got a bigger size and its sooo much better!

Lucia82 · 04/02/2016 20:37

Bluebell- those are much nicer. I ended up with what fitted- and have been wearing them since as everything hurt too much to care. But I am sure when things settle I'll be more in the mood to shop for some nicer ones.

Bluebell20 · 04/02/2016 21:12

Oh wow mascara, some of the Mothercare ones look lovely! Look at these for example, Scase. Okay, I'm going to get me to a Mothercare this weekend.

minieggaddict · 04/02/2016 21:18

Hi,
I didn't get measured for a nursing bra til about 38 weeks. Wore a c cup normal bra all thru pregnancy which was only one cup bigger than norm and when I got measured she said I'd need EE cup! For me my boobs after birth were much bigger once my milk came in and there's no way you'll want underwire on that day!

Agree that 0 to 3m months will get more use. Dd was 9lb 3oz and hardly needed newborn suits.

Scase1firsttimemum · 04/02/2016 21:58

Ohh they do look quite nice! I need to find a mothercare here!!

AnnaT45 · 04/02/2016 22:18

So many horrible bras! Asos has some nice ones. I didn't get my nursing bras till my milk came in as they were huge!! If you can just get one or two towards the end if you plan to breastfeed. Then go get measured when you're milk is in. I know people say breastfeeding is free but i spent a small fortune on nursing bras that says otherwise Hmm

DD was 8lb 10 and I think out of newborn in a few weeks maybe four at a push. I would just get a few and as someone else said your DH can always nip out. A lot of supermarkets do nice clothes which is handy!

So glad it's Friday tomorrow as I don't work!

Scase I'm so pleased your manager listened! Good luck with all the scans coming up! Very exciting that you'll have the sex told to you

Jackchi · 05/02/2016 04:59

Good morning everyone.... I can't sleep so thought I would ask the group for some advice- 17 weeks this Sunday and would really like to concider a gender private scan. However anyone recomend one in Harley street?? I'm over whelmed with the websites! Happy Friday!!

Thom80 · 05/02/2016 07:52

Jackc - I am having a scan at the Burth Company, 137 Harley Str. I will let you know what it is like. It came recommended so hopefully will be ok. I have found cheaper ones, but this one is meant to be good.

Jem01 · 05/02/2016 08:32

Good morning everyone, TGIF! Smile

Jackchi - no idea on places on Harley street but a friend of mine had a gender scan at this place - www.ultrasound-direct.com they have clinics across the country and she highly recommends them.

Ladies I need your help - what is everyone planning on using? Cot or cot beds? First child so idea! Would be helpful to hear your reasons on choosing one or the other...

18 weeks today! Smile
