Hang in there pinsey, and I hope you have a great birthday to help take your mind off things. Sounds to me like you need to schedule in some treats/catch ups with friends to fill the time? Things to look forward to?
If this DC is a boy I don't think I'll buy a wardrobe. We need to convert a room into two first Hmm getting DH to do things is such a nightmare, the child will be 4 before it gets done!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 09/01/2016 20:07

Our bedrooms all have built in wardrobes, but I would imagine a chest of drawers would be more useful! They are quite big so will probably get some drawer type storage to put inside the wardrobe.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 09/01/2016 20:15

By the way does anyone else have dry skin? Mine is normally a bit dryer in winter anyway, but it seems really dry at the moment, especially on my hands! Might be coincidence though.

Cheery1 · 09/01/2016 20:18

Hello ladies! Happy birthday Pinsey Cake

photographerlady · 09/01/2016 20:35

U think skin is luck really. I gained 4 stone and no stretchmarks last pregnancy. Tbh I think it was just lucky skin but did use bio oil. This time I'm keeping an eye on my weight and not tempt fate

photographerlady · 09/01/2016 20:35

I think not U think. Silly phone.

gnat99 · 09/01/2016 21:26

YouandMe I have found the opposite - my skin is normally very dry, and at the moment it's much less so! Bodies and hormones are so fascinating.

Pinsey it might not be 10 days for the Harmony results - I think they say that to cover themselves in case it takes longer, but mine came back in 7 days, and that was with a bank holiday in the middle of it. Have a good birthday!

I have really got to sort out new bras on Monday as I've been making do with what I've got as they don't feel too tight - just better filled than they were, if you know what I mean. However, my left boob starting hurting a bit yesterday, and although it may not be down to the bra, I don't want to risk any problems, so I'm going to try and find somewhere to get fitted (not easy in darkest Somerset).

I'd love to not get stretch marks, but I don't really believe that creams and oils will help me... Is there any actual scientific research out there that suggests they do?

Our spare room is utterly hideous. We have very limited storage space, so as well as a spare twin bed for guests (it pulls out to a double) a lot of our joint stuff is in there - filing, books, gift-wrapping material, roll mats, enormous telescope... It does not fit my dream of a beautiful nursery at all, and I certainly can't imagine myself spending hours breast-feeding in there at night - but I'm not sure what I can do with the rest of the stuff! Any bright ideas, guys?

julfin · 10/01/2016 01:41

Thanks everyone for all the advice. This group is brilliant!

Ellizardo, you should go for it! I won't deny that my DH is pretty daunted by the mid-life career change (he's slightly older than you) - but whatever he ends up doing will no doubt be a great new challenge - and now's a good time to do it! I imagine your skills are pretty transferable. Good luck to you, either way.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 10/01/2016 07:28

Aargh nearly lost you all.

Wanting I've had headaches too. I have had to take paracetamol and put ice on my head. Drinking more has improved it slightly. I didn't have them last time either.

Allthegood ive got stretch marks from my previous pregnancies Sad. The skin on my lower tummy will never be the same again. I use Champneys mum to be oil which does seem to have some affect. We bought a wardrobe last time around. There isn't much hung in it but it had 3 shelves on the side which we have books in. We also store socks and vests on the shelves as well as storing things as the top so it has been useful.

Pinsey Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great day. Hopefully your results will be good and reassuring. You get to find out the sex too.

Everyone has started noticing my tummy now. I have quite a hard belly from high up but still flabby underneath. I've only put on a couple of lbs which is good but I can't afford to put on much anyway. I'm luckily not suffering insomnia this time but I did have it last time. It was awful so I really feel for those that have it. It did disappear though somewhere between weeks 16-20. This time it's just disturbed sleep due to having to go downstairs for a wee at least 4 times a night Hmm

Thanks for all the tips on stretch mark creams and furniture solutions everyone. As a Piscean I am literally the most indecisive person ever so having lots of opinions from experienced mums definitely helps

cookies I'm with you on the struggle to get DH to do anything. I literally have to repeat myself a gazillion times - feel like a bit of a nag sometimes but otherwise it just doesn't get done Angry

Happy birthday pinsey hope you get your harmony results soon

minieggaddict · 10/01/2016 09:42

Hi all, struggling to keep up!
Happy birthday Pinsey
Re furniture, our spare room became dds room and we already had a wardrobe in there which we use mainly for overflow of ours. The chest of drawers in there tho has been the best and it doubled as the changing table. We had to get rid of stuff to make room and this time we've got to cram dhs computer things downstairs to make the man cave the nursery. We had dd in with us 6 months tho so don't feel any need to rush as babies don't take up half as much room as toddlers and their collections of toys/junk/books lol!

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and still nervous as hell. Got a bump but beginning to look a bit fat too. Hoping to reuse my previous stretch marks but I'm using the bio oil that mum gave me in the vain hope it'll help, altho it didn't last time.

pulpi · 10/01/2016 09:53

Happy Birthday Pinsey

About the dry skin: pregnancy has turned me into a lizard. Currently swearing my Clinique Moisturizing Gel (not the lotion) for the face and Body Shop Cocoa Butter for the body. My sister (mom of 2) swears by the Cocoa Butter. No stretch marks spotted on me yet, but I haven't started to pop out yet so no shock there.

Bluebell20 · 10/01/2016 10:13

Bel just read through posts again properly... If you coughed up blood, I would definitely speak to your GP or midwife. just to be sure x

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 10/01/2016 10:35

I can definitely tell I've got a bump now, although I think if you didn't know I was pregnant I would just look fat really.

I think the coughing blood issue might be related to blood vessels being dilated. In the same way as we may suffer more from nose bleeds etc. The throat has quite delicate blood vessels near the surface which is why it's common if you have a bad cough and cold to cough up some blood.

But obviously speak to a professional abut this when you next see one! Not what you want to see when you are feeling horrible :(

beckslovestimmy · 10/01/2016 10:46

Hi ladies just checking in. It's DD's 3rd birthday today so over to mums later for tea and cake. She's currently playing nicely with her new toys. Can believe how fast those last 3 years has gone!

pulpi · 10/01/2016 11:05

Am down with a murderous headache today that is verging on the 24 hour mark. Am self-medicating with tea and Jeremy Kyle. Considering following that up with a masochistic viewing of One Born Every Minute.

On the upside (and there's always an upside) my midwife booking appointment is tomorrow. DH is so keen to come, which is brilliant, so we'll make a bit of an afternoon of it up in the thriving metropolis of Dundee.

CultureSucksDownWords · 10/01/2016 12:19

Hi everyone :-) just popping in to say hello on the new thread.

Went to a family occasion yesterday, and it was very strange to talk to everyone about the baby, as it seems like such a long time that we didn't tell anyone!

I'm debating whether to tell work on Monday. It's tricky as I've only been there for just over a year, and it's a small company (

Thistledew · 10/01/2016 12:32

I woke up with a headache pretty much every morning last week, but they soon lifted once I had some breakfast. I occasionally get migraines and have learned that if I eat something really sugary and take some painkillers early enough on I can often stop them developing or at least getting too bad, so I suspect it is to do with blood sugar levels.

With regards to nursery furniture- we haven't even got a room for baby yet, never mind thinking about kitting out a nursery. We have having extensive remodelling done on our house and what will be the nursery is currently literally a building site! I have a small chest of drawers and wardrobe that will be spare once I have built some more fitted wardrobes in the main bedroom so will use them for baby, but may put some extra shelves in the wardrobe as I don't think we will need much hanging space.

I have my 12 wk scan tomorrow. I have to keep telling myself that I have no reason to think there would be any bad news, but the recent sad reports from people on this thread have made me feel unsettled. Before being pregnant and coming on this thread I really had no idea that pregnancy loss was so common. I can't help but feel anxious about what tomorrow afternoon might show. Sad

MrsRolly · 10/01/2016 12:35

Hey everyone!

Im planning to tell my boss on Tues Culture and similar situation to you not looking forward to it.. But we have business planning for next year in for Friday so figure it's a good time Confused

Going for my second scan on Thursday as baby was just to small for Nuchal last time.

Thought I was feeling better but totally wiped out today.

Hope everyone's headaches have cleared today!

MrsRolly · 10/01/2016 12:37

Also sympathy with the packed out spare room soon to be nurseries - ours is DH 'Band Room' not looking forward to housing Amps in our room Blush and with wardrobe I would say not essential although our DD (now 9) still has the one she originally had! Will prob get an upgrade and that one handed down.

Scase1firsttimemum · 10/01/2016 12:39

Im gunna have to make a private gender scan I wanna see the baby again! Looking to book a 3D scanSmile

HopesAndDreams15 · 10/01/2016 13:36

Happy birthday Pinsey Thanks

I think we've told everyone we need to tell now, I was worried about telling my boss but he was fine...not like he could really tell me off but I know he is probably pissed off at the inconvenience.

Just about to sleep off my roast, happy Sunday everyone!

Cookiesandcoffee · 10/01/2016 14:02

Whoever mentioned dry skin- my super greasy teenage skin has now become scaly and dry! Spots and crusty dry bits- joy !!

becks happy 3rd birthday DD! We recently had DD2s 3rd baby and really made me panic where the last 3 years went?! Had I not been preg I think I would have had a maternal melt down!
Sure everything will be fine st your scan tomorrow thistle dry and relax this evening to try and calm yourself. But I know what you mean. The thread has really opened my eyes.
mrsrolly and culture I would just get it over with personally and tell them. I got myself so worked up and in a bit of a state about telling my boss (from my 2nd job) and she was really really lovely when I did and then i felt silly!
scase I have my private gender scan a week today! Grin so excited and no way I wanted to wait another month!! If they aren't too expansive in your area I say go for it!
Yum jealous of your roast hopes. Equally so of your nap. Really not exciting but Just made myself a chicken and walnut salad and I must say I feel v energised for it!
